We've had an excellent 60L Brabantia soft-touch bin since 2008, but after a kitchen-redo in 2018 its new location made it a bit of a nuisance as it's so big.Well, the spring on the lid snapped a few weeks' back and rather than try and source a replacement we decided 12 years was a good run and it felt like a good opportunity to downsize it the 40L (it might be misdescribed on Amazon as being 30L for some reason, so note this review is for the flat-backed 40L, not the all-round 30L), which is a little wider, but is shallower and has a flat back to go against a wall. On those grounds, it absolutely does the job, and indeed has a real benefit over the 60L (and the 30L) is being wider, sliding waste off cutting boards is so much easier, nothing goes on the floor ;) . And despite our slight fear about the downsizing in volume, 40L it turns out is still more than enough for a week, maybe sometimes even a little more, of kitchen waste for a couple of people. There are a couple of downsides. We don't think the soft-touch lid mechanism is anywhere near as good as the quality on our old 60L's lid, which was excellent (well, up until the point it suddenly wasn't, but that was after 12 years!). This rattles a little, and isn't as "soft". And we know it's not a one-off as we've actually had two, and the lid behaviour was identical on both. The first bin we were sent was unstable and rocked around while opening it. On investigating it (pictured) it turned out that the plastic base insert hadn't been attached properly and there was no way to reattach it, it was totally out of shape. We ordered a replacement and in that one it was fitted correctly, so we're pretty happy with it now: it's the right size for the position it's in, it's rock solid stable on the floor like the old one. It just seems there are some QA and cost-cutting issues at the factory, as shown by the broken base and cheaper-feeling lid. These are very expensive bins; one can accept the base was just a factory error, the lid feels a little more intentional. The broken bin was sent back and has been refunded with no issues. So we do recommend them, but check thoroughly and get it replaced if you find it's got anything that feels wrong.

Our old Brabantia bin gave up the ghost after 10 years of rough an tumble, 2 kids, and numerous ill advised dishwasher cleans (apparently that's a big no no). After following us on 2 house moves rather than trying to fix it we thought it might be time for a new one, and wanted to simply go with the same again hoping for more great reliability. I did try to find a new lid (the opening mechanism broke) but even though they were once sold, sadly not available. The new design is identical in size (see photo's). The design for the lid opening is better, with everything mounted to the lid. Previously there was a little fastener peg in the rim that used to get clogged up easily and needed clearing.removing this in the design should mean less fiddling. The packaging shouts about XXL opening. In this instance that actually might be true. When scraping a chopping board into the bin, or peeling spuds, an extra bit of space can make the alot of difference. In the new design the bin opening (left to right) is nearly 26cm. Previously it was just over 21cm, so a pretty big difference in what is the same size product. The front to bag is also a little bigger but only a couple of cm.So, nothing really bad to say, but a couple of minor niggles. Spending so much on a bin is just about acceptable, but only supplying 3 sample Brabantia bin bags feels a little stingy. The final niggle, although we're reaching for things here, is that the bin top doesn't seem to sit on quite as snugly as before. There are little nodules that provide a spring loaded grip that almost feels magnetic. In the old design the fit was a snug pressure fit that felt a little tighter. So all in all, yes, it's just a bin, but nice to see that with a premium brand and 10 years of design thinking time, even the humble bin can be improved.

I was sent this item for testing and impartial appraisal. This is expensive, but worth every penny. While it comes with a 10 year guarantee, you can reasonable expect it to last you much longer. I can say this with some certainty as I have owned and used a similar foot operated Brabantia bin for the last 6 years and it still looks and functions like new. This upgrade is a delight to the eye. And it really is an improvement. A light touch and the lid opens smoothly. It closes just as easily. Lovely to look at, slightly larger, and almost silent to use, the inner bucket lifts out effortlessly to make lining bag replacement dead easy. It comes with 3 bin liners.Forget about the skinny bin liners from your local supermarket which seem designed to burst open and spill your rubbish at will. Get Brabantia's own liners from Amazon which can be ordered as a subscribe and save item. They will retain your rubbish securely, are easy to remove and replace and will keep your wheelie bin clean and tidy too. This is very important at a time when all local authorities want to reduce collections to save money. Reliable, hygienic storage of garbage has never been more relevant. Brabantia, the well known Dutch firm, has been producing quality items for the home for decades now. If you can afford to invest in Brabantia products, and it is a sound investment, you will get the best available and save money long term. Highly recommend for lasting quality.

This splendid kitchen bin has a black plastic lid that is slightly concave and securely latches and unlocks with gentle pressure at the front. The lid is damped and rises gently ( but not so gently that you are waiting for it). The surround of the lid, which just lifts off the base is a stainless steel finish as is the base itself, ensuring that you will able to keep it clean for years to come. The huge inner space in the bin is filled by a robust plastic 'bucket' which can be taken out and disinfected/washed when necessary. There is a pack of 3 white bin liners provided of a size that you can adequately replace at Tesco or most supermarkets. These liners are essential to the ease of use and cleanliness of this bin,as on most occasions all you will need to do is lift it out and tie the bag for disposal - in fact if I was not disposed to buy liners, I wouldn't buy the bin either! You can get about 40-45 litres of rubbish in this bin before you have to empty it, which in a busy family house means that you might go two days without having to take the rubbish out if you live alone, then this is probably too big for you!. Most importantly to fit the liner, you must remove the lid of the bin - if you try to fit the liner with the lid attached, you will only cause frustration and end up ripping it.This is an attractive bin, that looks good in a modern kitchen and is designed to keep clean. An excellent design, we are very happy with ours.

I have been using the Brabantia for about a month since it was shipped. I struggled to find 40l bin bags for it; so I have used 50l bags which have worked fine - and seem far stronger and more tear resistant than traditional black bags. You can remove an inner plastic liner if you want to use it for recycling or don't want to use bags. I love the flat back that lets me put it against a unit or wall in the kitchen; and the mat finish that isn't a total fingerprint magnet.I have been blessed that I don't often need to look at the price tags when spending money. The overall design and the feeling of quality definitely meets the qualify of my existing SimpleHuman bin (which was if anything slightly more expensive. The SimpleHuman mechanism feels a bit more robust - and as its foot operated it can close itself. On the brabantia the hinge feels robust; and opens easily - but you have to manually close it. That said I prefer the mat finish far better than the polished steel on my SimpleHuman bin; though it would be nice if it were electric so that it closed itself. I think at this point in time and at this price point we deserve a fully electric mechanism.

Well - There are bins and there are bins.... Never worried about reviewing one before but....this IS nice..!I live in an apartment with an open plan kitchen so finding a decent bin is important. Although I don't consider it a big feature it cannot help but be fairly obvious from my living room. Hence I opted to pay the premium price for something that looks good...The colouring on this Almond bin is perfect and subtle - there is no shiny chrome to shout " Hello - kitchen bin here.."The top part of lid is dark and matt which suits me - again no shouty shouty chrome....The outer shell is smooth and has no ugly bits sticking out - important as I effectively see the back side more from my livingroom..!Touch opening is a doodle and much better than my previous cheaper version.I purchased the matching Brabantia bin liners - snug fit but that means no over hanging bits of bag to deal with - I imagine bag changes will be easy and quick.Have always favoured and trusted Brabantia products over the years for their quality and endurance - so here's hoping for a long and happy friendship with this new bin...the first 6 hours have been great...!!

Well, it is a bin… well made, quality bin. It may seem a bit strange but it has always been on my wishlist. The one we got has capacity of 40 l and stainless steel finish and it looks very pretty, almost too pretty to use for rubbish. It opens and closes with the slightest touch. The whole top comes off effortlessly to replace the bin lines and it comes with 3 spare liners. The inside (plastic) part of the bin is also removable for easy cleaning. When I was looking at the picture for some reason I imagined the bin to be round but in reality it is oval with flat back so it can be placed against the wall or cupboard, saving a lot of space in comparison with round bins.It is genuinely great rubbish bin and the only thing that could be better is the handle on the back, hence minus one star. It supposed to make moving bin around easier but the edges of the handle are so sharp that they hurt my hand. It is just matter of the finishing, the handle can be smoothed out with a knife or sandpaper but I would expect that bin costing over £100 would have things like this sorted.

Upgraded to Brabantia's touch top bins about 10 years ago, I was sick of all the usual pedal bins i'd had braking. Best bins ever and worth the cost as they last and last as well as being easy to use & clean, by far the most stylish best quality bin out there. Only changed my last one which was exactly the same as the new one because it was scratched and had a dint in the side where my puppy had pulled it over having learned how to open the lid himself. New Design Lid: I am sorry to say I do not like the new design lid, no way as easy to use, doesn't look as good and the bin lid is actually a totally different colour to the Matt Black of the bin, the lid is actually a smokey grey and looks really odd.I don't like it but unfortunately I disposed of the packaging and started using it straight away. When my husband came home he said straight away he didn't like it and now I can't send it back because I really think I would. Big Shame as I love these bins they are the best on the market and worth the extra cost just don't like this new design.

This is a good, smart-looking bin - bought to replace an old, larger, 2-compartment Brabantia bin, as we were finding it easier to pop our recycling straight out to the bin than end up emptying the bin multiple times per day. The two compartment bin was a good idea, but not practical for an extended family.Conveniently, this takes the same size G bin liners as our old bin, whilst the smaller 30 litre size is less intrusive in the kitchen. The touch system is easy, quiet and convenient to use, and the bin liner easier to install on a circular bin liner bucket than on the half-moon versions that were in our old two-compartment bin. The lid design neatly conceals the bag edge so there is no unsightly bin liner on show.I made a mistake in not realising that there was a separate version of the matt steel bin that doesn't show fingerprints, and this does get quite smudgy.

This is a nice looking bin and the lid is very convenient and easy to use. However, there are a few things that could be improved:1. The inner bin has holes in the bottom. Why? This makes it difficult to clean, especially because my wife likes to swish hot water and detergent around if the bin bag splits and spills its nasty stuff out. This is no longer possible due to these holes.2. It is very hard to squeeze the top of the bin liner between the inner bin and the outer casing. This causes the bag to not be properly secured and it gets pushed down when squeezing many things into the bin and has at times resulted in a big spillage inside.I've seen designs where there is a hole that you can push excess liner into which tightens it around the edge too. See Joseph&Joseph food bin.

I'm a fan of Brabantia as the quality is so good. This might look pricey but it will outlast cheaper competitors and comes with a 10 year guarantee for peace of mind. The flatback makes it space conscious, standing right up against a wall. Lid operates with simple pressure to open and close, rising in a damped movement rather than jump open. NB don't stick any deodorising product to the lid, it affects operation.Interior bin to hold the liner allows removal safely. I take it to the garbage bin then remove the liner, minimising any accidents of splitting. The liner can be cleaned; either hose it out occasionally, or stick in the shower.Big capacity at 40l, family size.Or brilliant for flat dwellers to reduce trips to communal bins.Looks modern and stylish.

I was first given a second hand foot pedal Brabantia bin when I moved into my flat 8 years ago and have always been impressed with how good it was at keeping the smells in. Especially important when you have an open plan kitchen/ lounge.I decided it was time to get a new one and upgrade to the touch bin and after 3 weeks is couldn't be more pleased with it! I've only used the Barbantia bin liners it came with so far, which are so easy as they fit perfectly.I thoroughly recommend this bin, it's worth paying a bit more for the quality and you never get the horrible smells that I've experienced in some of my friends' kitchens that use other brands.

I am all for "paying for what you get" regarding most pieces of kitchen equipment but i must admit that i balked initially at the price tag for this piece of apparatus, after all a bin is a bin and kitchen waste can be "kept" in far less expensive surroundings, right?Having received this high-spec, impressive and dare i say ( for a bin) attractive touch-bin, i have had to reappraise my initial reservations. This family sized bin looks sleek, classy and impressive not to mention durable and functional, and with some bin liners provided to get you started you will have it ready to go in no time.10/10..

I purchased this bin to replace my former Brabantia touch open bin as its more accessible to keep clean as well as being very stylish. The complete lid section lifts off and the internal bin is removable to replace the bags.I would recommend this product to anyone, but also suggest that it be treated with care to prevent the need for constant cleaning. For instance, don't place such things as tea bags, or used coffee pods directly into the bin...allow them together with any wet, or damp waste to dry out, or place them in a plastic bag first. The bin will then have a long life!

I really love this bin. My son who is 3 can easily use it as well. We previously had a sensor bin which was useless as our bin is next to the kitchen door (the only space we have for it). The bin is lovely and sturdy and it’s reassuring to have the 10 year guarantee too. I didn’t imagine I’d ever spend this much on a bin but so far so good and feels like a good investment. As it’s 30l we have to empty it more often but feel that is better as it doesn’t get smelly like bigger bins. The slim profile means that it doesn’t get in the way either and ford the small space we have.
