The Brabantia “SORT & GO” 6-litre compostable kitchen waste bin has set a new record in our house!The time taken from delivery to being put into use was about 5 minutes!My wife had it unpacked and fitted with a 6 litre compostable bag and placed under the kitchen sink in light speed time! The unit is supplied with 10 x 6L compostable bags. The bag that the 10 bags came in is itself recyclable in the standard recycles dustbin.The “SORT & GO” waste bin is made in a very attractive yellow polypropylene material. The top lid of the bin lifts off so that you can insert the 6L bag and then refit the top lid, which then keeps the 6L bag firmly locked in position.So there is no “sag” as you add items to the bin –such as vegetable and fruit peelings.When we have finished with a tea bag we open the kitchen cupboard and lift the lid and deposit the tea bag in (no, it’s not rocket science). However, when we are preparing our vegetables for a main meal, we place the bin on the kitchen worktop with the lid open and bung in the peelings etc. as we go along. The “SORT & GO” has a sturdy handle. We grow a lot of our own vegetables and fruit in the season so have a few composters at the bottom of the garden. We carry the contents of the full 6L peelings etc. and deposit them in the composter. 6L bag itself is compostable.The unit is guaranteed for 10 years. You can visit the Brabantia home page to register your product. The brochure showing the web guarantee information also briefly lists other Brabantia products in their range, including larger sizes of the “SORT & GO”.The “SORT & GO” also comes with a sturdy bracket so you can attach the bracket to a wall or cupboard etc. (Brabantia advise about care with wiring and water pipes!). You then you slide the “SORT & GO” onto the bracket. Screws supplied but not raw plugs.We have used the unit now for a couple of weeks now. The bin itself is very easy to wash. Our previous kitchen composter had annoying grooves in the base unit and lid, where veggies lodges and made washing it thoroughly very frustrating. Not so with the clean lines of the “SORT & GO” bin and the top clamping ring. All are very easy to keep 100% clean.So as you can conclude from the above review, we are both very happy with the “SORT & GO”, both from it functionality and from its design. Well worth taking a look at!

I live alone in a 1 bedroom apartment with a small kitchen. I cook regularly and I was fed up of having my larger bin taking up space in the kitchen and having to empty it even when it was nowhere near full. Furthermore, after a few days it'd often start smelling and due to it being out in the open, flies and gnats were able to get to the waste, meanwhile I was also concerned that taking out a minimal amount of waste in such a large bin bag isn't great for the environment.I started looking at how to be a bit more considerate of my waste - bags including - and I happened upon this waste caddy.I was originally just going to keep this on the counter as a countertop bin,but what's great is that it comes with an attachment to screw into the cupboard door, meaning it can be discreetly kept under the sink out of sight. I've found this to be massively useful as space is such an issue in smaller flats/ kitchens whilst smells, flies and gnats are no longer an issue.The caddy is super easy to fit and was done in around 10 minutes although it should be noted that make sure you place the bin approximately 6 inches away from the edge of the cupboard to allow the cupboard to close. This is likely just common sense but I did mess up and have to make new holes. The caddy itself just slots onto the mount so you can easily take it off and put it on again - super useful when you want to clean it.The size is perfect for my needs and what I use it for as a single person cooking for myself. I didn't buy the branded perfect fit bags as recommended as I wasn't impressed by their reviews, however I did instead pair the caddy with biodegradable bags found elsewhere on Amazon, although aim for 8 litre rather than 6 litre bags as the 6L ones fit but are a little tight.Although this is definitely a game-changer - and a space saver - my only gripe with the bin is that the lid doesn't feel securely attached to the caddy. It's never fallen off, but it feels flimsy when you're holding it by the handle as though it could come detached. Like I said, it hasn't happened but to be safe, I always take it off holding the caddy just in case.

This nicely designed small kitchen bin looks likely to find many admirers, and the sort of reviews it has been getting appear to confirm this. Who will and who will not find it suitable for their own kitchens is going to be a question of size -- or rather two questions of size. It is not intended for general-purpose landfill waste, and it may suit your purposes for a number of recycling items, say food waste, general organic waste, garden waste and glass. I think it likely that many householders may simply find this bin too small to be practical for paper-waste recycling or garden waste, maybe even a little restricted where bottles and glassware are concerned.For these purposes it may be too small for your requirements.For indoor storage of food waste I suspect that I for one might find the bin too large for convenience. I disapprove of food waste, and so I don't generate much of that beyond egg-shells, banana skins, kipper bones and similar. It would be a bit of a bind to have to store that stuff indoors for a very short time before taking it to the external storage where it is rightly bound; whereas on the other hand I would not like it festering indoors and inevitably generating smells despite the nice-looking and sealable disposal bags. There is also the general thought that some kitchens (e.g. my own) simply do not have any suitable locus for the bin.I said it was nicely designed, and the reservations I have been expressing are not criticisms, any more than the wrong size in clothes or shoes would be a fault in these. I am going to reconsider my waste storage and disposal, the overall rules for which are set by my local authority, but for the time being I have an interesting and well designed domestic item, with an attachment and screws provided if you can or want to mount it on a wall (and note the precautionary remarks in the accompanying leaflet if you are that way minded).So there we are -- if you have the right storage space and the right waste-disposal profile this may be for you, and you should not have any other complaints with it if so.

We purchased this composter as I was tired of looking at the nasty brown one given to us by the council after the introduction of their scheme.we wanted something easy to clean that was more aesthetically pleasing and this one fits perfectly on the window of our kitchen without being too much of an eyesore. the white version we purchased has a strong, anthracite coloured handle and really is an improvement on the old caddy.It's really sturdy and modern looking, and the lid seems to seal perfectly shut meaning no more nasty smells every time someone puts a banana skin in there (why do they always smell so bad?!)The caddy comes with a wall plate if you wish to mount it - this looks like it wouldwork on the inside of a cupboard door but we have ours sitting on the windowsill.It comes with 10 Brabantia compostable liners the whole lid comes away to change the liners which just wrap around the edges and are then help in place by the lid. It does seem fairly secure and doesn't seem to slip away as the bag starts to get full.I think the only con would be that it doesn't seem to be designed to take other brands of bags, however, I have found that you can get around this by simply cutting the handles off the Tesco version which are considerably cheaper - if you don't want to do that the bags will still fit but you will see them hanging out the side.I would advise that you do not fill this to the brim however - as the bags get full it can be rather had to tie them in a knot as there are no handles or anywhere to use in order to seal them, I have found that I can comfortably get away with the bin being just over half full before the liner needs replacing but it seems to hold so much more than the normal caddy's anyway that this is not really a problem!Overall I would thoroughly recommend this caddy and will be considering the rest of the Brabantia range as their products always seem to tick every box!

We have had a 6L kitchen food waste caddy in a cupboard near the sink. That meant you either had to take the caddy out to put waste into it or reach into the cupboard lift the lid and hope you don't get too much food in the cupboard. I wanted to find a suitable shelf to go on the back of the cupboard door to put the caddy on but I couldn't see anything ideal so I started to look for a caddy with a mounting bracket. This seemed to fit the bill and wasn't too expensive so I decided to try it.The shape isn't the same as the local authority food caddies being less deep and wider round the perimeter. I have always thought the standard caddy liners weren't deep enough and were too wide so they tended to slip off the caddy,so I tried my existing ones on this and they seem perfect. The lid is on a frame that you can lift off, fit the liner so it just comes over the rim and then put the frame back on to hold the liner in place. You do get 10 purpose-designed liners, but I don't think it will be necessary to get special ones in future.The bracket was fairly easy to fit onto the back of the door using the screws provided. It's supposed to be for wall fitting but I think you would want wall plugs if you were going to do that. It's easy to put the caddy on and off the bracket and the whole thing seems as secure as my fittings ever are. The handle doesn't lock the lid, I'm pleased to say. That would have been awkward and I can see no reason for it on a caddy that is used only indoors.I should say that the instructions do warn against what I have done because of the risk that the weight could distort the door. I think my cupboard doors are quite sturdy so I'm hoping there won't be a problem. The caddy now swings out with the door, the lid stays up when you lift it and it's easy to get food into it, especially with the wider top. I'm happy.

Easy to fit, got mine in within 10 minutes. Good quality product.You may need to consider the position of the top mounting for the post with regards to door hinges, the door hinge might need to be moved to suit. On mine, as measured from the base where the bottom post mounting is fixed, it is approx 386mm to the bottom of the top mounting, and 428mm to the top. So if there is a hinge in between these measurements it will need to be moved.As other reviewers have pointed out (complained about), the bins aren't massive. Of course they aren't, the unit is designed to fit in a cupboard underneath a kitchen sink leaving sensible room for pipework that you inevitably get with sinks.So before you go buying one of these units expecting to get something the size of a wheelie bin, go and open the cupboard under your kitchen sink, take out the junk that's in there and then you'll have a clue as to how big it might be. Also, just as a thought, use a tape measure and the dimensions provided in the description!A tip for the likes of Antony who clearly shouldn't be trusted with a screwdriver as he gave a 1 star review on 2nd January 2021 because the screws were too long and came through the front of his cupboard door; the screws that are provided are of a length to suit the most common thickness of wood used for kitchen units. Brabantia clearly don't know the exact specifications of your kitchen units, which is why in their instructions it clearly states 'Check whether the screws are suitable for the thickness of the cabinet before you attach the bin'. So it might be necessary to reduce the useable length of the screws with washers, or just use other, shorter, screws - which is what I had to do as my doors have a thinner insert panel.

If you have an empty 600mm base cupboard which is not obstructed by sink pipes etc, you have a chance of being able to fit this in. If not, it won't suit you as it's too wide for a 500mm cupboard and especially in the 16l version, is likely to foul on the sink bits as it is pretty deep.However, once you've identified a suitable cupboard, this is great. I imagined from the listign that it screwed to the door and the hinges took the weight, but in fact the weight bears through a bulky but solid bracket on to a vertical metal pole fixed to the cupboard carcase, giving a swivel action when the door i s opened. It was simplicity itself to install if small guide holes are drilled first in the cupbaord carcase.Brbantia products have a well deserved good reputation,and this is no exception. The buckets are smoothly finished and the handles have a nice feel and positive action when picking up a full bucket. If you are doing a lot of coooking, you can unhook a bucket and stand it out in the kitchen, it looks good and works well as an ordinary bin.Someone has thought this design through and it really works. My only gripe is that the description says "attach to a wall" which is not possible with the bracket provided. Another model in the range (not designed for inside a cupbaord) can indeed be fixed to a wall, but the double sort and go will fit only inside the cpd or freestanding. Shame really, the inclusion of an extra bracket for wall mounting would have made very little cost difference and expanded it's use.The colours are modern and stylish too, charcoal and duckegg I would call them.

Just to be clear, this is a review of the 6L bin. It is possible many users will not care to have it sitting on their worktop, and instead fit it in under the sink. You might struggle to fit it in your spaces, so I would be careful. It comes with a bracket that is easily attached to the wall or cupboard with three screws also supplied. The handle is very comfortable and the bin is well balanced. The lid stays in the open position, again if you have room. You cannot actually fix it in the open position, it relies on being past the balance point to stay open rather than any mechanical fastener. The lid itself and a skirting around the top lifts of the unit for easier disposal of the waste and fitting of the compost bags which were also supplied with mine.The bins are themselves compostable.So quite a nice bin for the kitchen in this age when you need all sorts of containers for all sorts of sorting. It could be useful in other senses, for example for being a container for all sorts of things, from plugs to bits of wire etc, though it is deep enough to make it difficult to find stuff like that without emptying the whole bin. Best kept for the original purpose, I think. Difficult to get excited about a waste bin, but this one does the trick. the colour is a bit "in your face" but that may suit your preferences and i believe there are other colours available.

This is a set of two bins that fit inside a cupboard, and can be used either as one normal bin and one recycling bin, or two recycling bins for different categories.The bins are sturdy and the lids rise and shut easily, and the handles on the bins make them easy to take outside to the wheelie bins. They are quite compact but hold a lot of waste - you'll need to buy specific sized bin liners to get the most of them.They come with a bracket and screws to allow you to attach them to the inside of a cupboard, but I would advise caution with this as the screws may actually be longer than the depth of some cupboard doors.I am always reluctant to drill/screw into a cupboard door and preferred the design of my previous recycling bin which screwed into the bottom of the cupboard. You could try using Command strips or similar instead of the screws, though I am not sure they would take the weight of the bins well enough.The bins do take up a lot of your cupboard, so whether or not you are willing to sacrifice most of a cupboard is up to you. I think it's nicer to have the bins tucked away out of sight like this, but if storage space is low then you might not want to lose so much cupboard space.Overall, they are well made bins as you'd expect from this brand and if you're happy to screw into your cupboard door then you'll probably be pleased with them.

Excellent quality plastic bins. I had thought these might fit in my under sink cupboard as there is no shelf in it. However, unfortunately the waste pipe is just in the wrong place and means that the door wouldn't close by about 2 cm. Shame because I am not sure I would want to dedicate a whole other kitchen cupboard just to keep a couple of sorting bins. However, I will still use them as free standing bins and for this purpose they are lovely. Be aware that you won't get much else in your cupboard if you install these. Maybe a few tall bottles for recycling like in one of their pictures on their website.. They are easy to clean and I like how the lid goes over the edge of the bag so it keeps it all clean and tidy.The video for the installation makes it very easy to see how to install these and I did actually start installing these in my cupboard before I realised it wouldn't close. Very straightforward and easy to follow instructions so that is great. I would say though be careful if you use the screws provided for the cupboard door support, as if your cupboard doors are of the thinner type as mine are, then the screws might just break through the surface and ruin your doors. That would not be a happy situation. I measured the screws against my doors and this would have happened had I carried on and not thought about it enough.

I reluctantly bought two of the 16L bins because they were the only recycling bins that fit into our kitchen. I do like the modern look and the available colours but, to be honest, it would not have justified the price for me.Alas, we only had two wee corners to put bins in and these had the right measurements.The bins themselves are fairly sturdy. The handle feels a little flimsy;. I could see it come off after a couple of months or years usage but so far, so good. The lid stays open if needed, which is handy.I ordered a pack of the matching bin bags, mostly because I knew I wouldn't be able to get to the shops to get the right size them until a couple of days later. They are visible when in use.If someone really, really wanted to, it would be possible to hide them fully under the brim but I do not care enough about bin bags to fight that fight.The bins clean easily, which is good to know. With the standard plastic bins from supermarkets we used to get, I usually put one bin bag in there semi-permanently that gets changed whenever the actual bin bag leaked. I have not tried that with these bins yet but if you are planning to do that, getting the Brabatina bags to "protect the bin" would probably be useful, as it will avoid extra bulk under the brim, which is narrower than with cheaper bins.

It's smaller than I expected but it's a fine size for my glass recycling. It's too small for our plastic and cans as it won't even hold a days worth of coke cans and 2L Pepsi bottles, and it's too big for our food and organic waste. The food waste bin we get from the council is a horrible dark brown but it's half the size of this brabantia one and even one that small stinks the house out if not emptied every other day so this 16L one would be overkill. We'd hardly get it a quarter full before having to empty it.Our glass recycling though seems to be suited to this size. We don't usually have anything bigger than jars and the occasional ketchup bottle and they take a while to mount up enough to traipse to the recycling center with them (our council don't do a glass collection).Using this bin means we can store the glass away out of sight in this until such time as we have enough to warrant a trip and don't have to see a glass pyramid growing in the corner of the kitchen for a week or three.Has a nice feature to allow it to be fixed to the wall (or inside cupboard door) and comes with a few bin liners to get you started. Nice colour too. I'd describe it more as a duck egg blue than mint green and that's perfect because my kitchen diner is the same shade as the bin, by happy accident!

I'm very happy with my lovely 12L Brabantia bin so I can collect food waste in the kitchen without having to empty it so frequently like we do with the typical smaller bins.It came with 3 liners but unfortunately they were not compostable. I then ordered Brabantia's compostable liners which are very expensive at around 65p each. They didn't have any draw strings or handles to help extract and tie them up which was surprising given the premium cost. Surely someone makes an alternative compostable liner with handles for less money?The bin is an unusual size (quite tall) so I initially struggled to find alternative bags/liners from 3rd parties. After a lot of research on Amazon I found perfectly fitting,compostable liners with handles at nearly 1/3 of the price. They're from BIOvative and cost 22p each. They're sold as 10L but actually fit the bin perfectly. Make sure you get the "with handle" version as there's an identical looking one without handles. Search Amazon for the product ID B077X2P7P7. (Unfortunately they're unavailable right now on 15 Jun 2020 but I hope they get more stock soon.)If you found this helpful please click the Helpful button. This 6 litre compost caddy is the smallest in the range of three different coloured bins. It is a sImilar size to the food compost caddy that most local authorities supply and for those people that do not have a food waste collection it is around the size of a small loaf of bread/biscuit barrel.The bin is made of a good quality plastic and is very well made and sturdy. I imagine it would easily outlive its 10 year guarantee.The bin is bright yellow in colour and unfortunately resembles a clinical waste/ sharps bin (the type you see in hospitals and GP surgeries). It has a strong black plastic handle.The bin comes with a free packet of 10 compostable bin liners and fixtures to hang the box on the wall if you want to.The lid can be removed so that you can fit the compostable bags securely and for mess free emptying. Sadly the lid does not lock, to keep odours in and in the warmer weather, flies out.If you are considering purchasing a food compost caddy this is a good option - it is made by a trusted brand and is well designed and constructed. Sadly I suspect many people will be put off by the colour which is unlikely to blend in with other kitchen gadgets or colour schemes.

If you don't have lots of space in the house and want to recycle plastic, paper, etc these Sort & Go bins by Brabantia are ideal. I have the 12L in the color yellow and I really like it. It measures 24,9 x 20 x 35 cm. The plastic and the construction of the bin are really solid: it is made in Belgium and not in China (I think it is the reason of the much better quality and the above average price).I love the cover can be easily taken off and that it is made in a way it keeps the bin bag in place: when I put heavier glass bottles into it the bin bag it does not collapse. The waste bin is very easy to clean (lukewarm water and dish soap)and very nice to look at - I can keep it on the kitchen floor without having to store it in the cupboard under the sink as it is not ugly and it does not let any unpleasant odour out.It is possible to mount it on the wall - everything you need is included - or on the internal part of a cupboard. I am planning to purchase more as I find it really handy. It has a 10 year warranty. The only downside is the price of the bin bags (10/12L C) that are a tad more expensive than the generic ones that I can get at the supermarket
