I'm a huge fan of Simplehuman and have several of their products. They are not the cheapest, but they do provide efficient, durable, practical and stunning products, and their items do come with a 10 year guarantee (which can be registered on-line), and on the one occasion where I did need to make a claim, they upgraded my product for free when replacing it (and it's still going strong). This bin is stunning and is of the brushed steel finish that is found on so many UK kitchen appliances - it matches my Neff built-in cooker, my Beko washing machine and Beko fridge-freezer pretty much perfectly. It wipes clean on the outside with water on a simple paper towel or sponge cloth, but Simplehuman does sell an oven-mitt style micro-fibre glove specifically for its brushed steel products, which once you've washed and dried it, should be used to buff away any marks. Do not be tempted to use cleaner spray of any sort on the outside of this item, as it will tarnish the finish, though the inner bin is of a very strong durable plastic that can be sprayed with anti-bac cleaner if necessary. The bin is very sturdy and quite heavy, and as it has a rectangular base, it's even sturdier than the 30 litre Simplehuman round Retro bin that I have, which does move the tiniest bit if I yank to remove the bin liner. I'd say that with most households recycling these days, the 30 litre size bin is sufficient for the larger household, as I never end up with a full bin each week (we have 3 humans and 3 cats in our house). Therefore, if you're not throwing smelly stuff into it, one bin liner would probably work over 2 or even 3 weeks.I do like that (even at 5'2" short), I can touch the bar with my knee or hip to open it, keeping my hands clean, and that the lid goes all the way back (it flips a complete 90 degrees, so there's no over-hanging), but it does still need to be closed by hand, though one light touch does this. You can't close this by hip or knee, unfortunately, so for me, obsessed with hygiene, it does mean that I wash my hands each time I use it when working in the kitchen. One thing, though, is that unlike my round retro bin, this ones does not allow me to empty my hoover bin directly into it by inserting the can completely inside, to avoid any dust rising - it's a sleek and narrow opening, so the average size bagless hoover cylinder simply won't fit.Closed, this 30 litre bin is 71cm high, and 93cm with the lid open. It's 29cm deep and 33 cm wide, so it is sleek and will fit into small spaces; it has a concealed handle on the back. Plus, the hinge on the lid is placed inside of the bin, which means that it lies TOTALLY flush with walls, which is great for a narrow galley kitchen like mine. It does also come in a 40 litre bin, which differs only in width to this product, so do be careful when buying liners. It takes Simplehuman H liners, of which a pack of 3 are supplied with the bin, but also, it's designed to take standard bin liners (which I've not tried, so I'm not sure if this means standard UK or US bin liners). Whilst the official bin liners work out around 25p each, they are certainly worth it, as they fit the bin perfectly, and even when you have to tug/yank to remove them, they do not split or rip, and they tie up handily with the drawstrings. They are far, far sturdier than a UK black bin bag/supermarket drawstring bin bag, and there's a bit on the inner bin for the excess liner to tuck into, meaning that no liner is visible once inserted.Overall, this is a great item, and looks far more expensive than it is - which seems to be a trademark of Simplehuman, but more to the point, it's designed for efficiency and simplicity. It'll make you kitchen proud!

Not only is this bin very slimline which is why I originally bought it (a small kitchen and the freezer door couldn't open properly so I couldn't open the drawers without moving the bin each time), but it's sturdy, opens easily and a small click shut. The lid pops right up after you press / lean on the opening bar. That means the entire top of the bin is open without continuous leaning on it so you can more easily get rubbish in (particularly when scraping from a board) without getting it on the top. Also because the bar is at the top of the bin rather than being a foot pedal you can lean against it if your hands are full and you don't have to keep leaning on it to make the top stay open.So much easier than a foot pedal which only keeps the bin up if you keep your foot down. Also after a couple of weeks of using it, there aren't any fingerprint smudges (it says it has this tech but I don't know how it works), so the bin does look clean.Normal bags do fit in it. I've got normal bags in mine. I think the idea is that you could keep squashing your rubbish down and use fewer bags and people in the UK recycle a lot of their rubbish so generally, the rest of what's thrown away can be heavy so the heavy-duty liners could be good. They sent me a trial pack of 10 in the box with the product but I haven't opened them yet as I wanted to try a normal bag first.Just to note too because you push the top down and it clicks shut you don't get 'bin wafts' the same as with a pedal bin. Just a personal pet peeve of mine. No one likes the chair near the bin if you wafting smells sporadically!Everything on it seems incredibly well made and durable so I don't feel like anything on this will break but it does come with a five-year warranty. My previous bin which was plastic, and the one before that which was a pedal bin both broke quickly and particularly the pedal part - this doesn't have the same mechanism so I'm hoping it will last. Specifically bought this brand as I have their in shower soap shampoo etc dispenser and it has been marvellous - when I did have an issue the customer service went above and beyond - the issue was unrelated to this product but worth noting that the customer support is excellent.

So, I cannot quite believe myself - mainly because I am so thrilled with what, after all, is only a bin!! Our previous Brabantia pedal bin had given up the ghost after many years of, what I thought, was good service. After a bit of nosying around at reviews, I went for this bin and I am delighted. Here's why....1. It is so easy to open. Touch the bar on the top and the lid springs up open. Not just slowly unfolds, springs. Not press the bar hard, just touch - meaning you can do it with your hand, knee, elbow or hip without any trouble. The lid stays open until you push it down, unlike a pedal bin, so if you have multiple journeys to the bin to do, just leave it open.It is also wide enough for a standard chopping board to fit endwards in - great for scraping off peelings, for example, without any falling to the floor with a cylindrical bin.2. The Simple Human bin liners fit perfectly. They fit snugly and easily round the inner bin, without any spare bulk - so that the inner bin then slips down and hides the liner - and with the lid on top, it is all hidden.3. Putting the liners in is easy, because the inner bin sits up at an angle when you lift it, meaning you have easy access to the tope edge.4. Space saving. The rectangular shape means it fits in the corner/ up to the counter end without wasting any space. Seems simple, but makes a difference. We now have a 40l bin in much the same space as the previous 30l cyclindrical bin5. The best till last - removing the full liner. No more suction of huge force meaning the liner is impossible to remove. This is so easy, the liner just slides up and out. And a final touch - the bin liners, I have just discovered, have a little label saying "almost gone" or something like that, when you are down to the last few. Cute!Whilst not cheap, you will not regret this bin. Given the amount of times a day a kitchen bin is used, cost per use is minimal. I am still ridiculously happy after 6 weeks.....! Now, time to go and get a life.....

It's not often I find myself waxing lyrical about a bin, it's just a bin right? But this really is a nice looking bin and would compliment the décor of pretty much any kitchen from Hi-Tech to Country Farmhouse style. The build quality is excellent, the lid comes up quickly and opens fully and because the lid itself is flat on the inside there is no lip or inner ledge for errant bits of rubbish to collect. The touch bar that opens it is the perfect height I don't have to bend down to reach it and it is easy to open with the side of your leg if your hands are full, but at the same time it won't open if you brush against it - those bins that auto open when you near them or have a sensor for yourhand get on my nerves as they seem to open every time you go near them.It has a removable inner bucket that makes it easy to clean and useful handle on the back recessed into the bodywork which is a boon when moving the bin. Plus it's fingerprint proof so it's going to stay cleaner longer....jammy hands are the exception :)Price wise, looking around bins of this quality are expensive and while this one is a penny shy of £100 it's still a good bit cheaper than similar quality bins by big hitters like Brabantia - in fact looking at Amazon, Brabantia do a very similar bin which would cost about £40 more full price and it's only 25L whereas this is 30L.Oh it also came with some bin liners which I thought was a nice touch. In short a great looking, stylish (in fact the next door neighbour commented on how nice it was!) well built ergonomic bin. Easily the best bin we've had!

We bought this to replace a smaller simplehuman pedal bin which had given excellent service for many years so were already familiar with the high quality of their products. We wanted a bin taking up roughly the same floor space but with larger capacity and were impressed with the description of the simple 'one touch' mechanism and the tilt arrangement for replacing the bin liner in the container. We have not been disappointed. The bin is very well made in brushed stainless steel, including an anti-fingerprint coating which actually works. Most importantly, the one touch opening works perfectly - no need to bend down as the top is just below average waist height. Or, as the product details say,it can be opened with a nudge from the knee. Closing the bin is equally easy and simple. Not that a kitchen waste bin has to be glamorous, but it really does look the part - fits nicely into any kitchen decor without being over-conspicuous.One minor niggle - replacement bin liners (Code H) are a little difficult to fit across the top of the container but you soon get used to squeezing them on and, being a tight fit, has the advantage of ensuring that the liner does not flap outside the lid fitting.Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the bin and thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a similar sized waste receptacle that is good-looking and easy to use.PS. Simplehuman's packaging as well as Amazon's was excellent - no risk of damage in transit.

Well I never thought I'd spend time raving about a bin, but here I am. This bin looks very sleek and modern, but doesn't appear out of place in my not so modern home. There is no time delay when pressing the touch bar lid. This bar also almost extends across the width of the bin so you don't have to be overly aware of where to press. The finger proof finish is clearly the work of wizards. I assumed no finger prints would show; however they clearly do after gripping the bin to change the rubbish bag. Yet I watched the impressive feat of my fingerprints disappearing from the surface of their own accord. There was no need for a quick wipe down afterwards and my bin remains as shiny and spot free as the day I unpacked it.Now the cons.I did initially think that 30 litre capacity sounded enormous, but in reality if just comfortably fits 3 full plastic bags (the thin free supermarket kind). The free bags are great; however I intend to switch back to my council issued refuse bags once they're all used and will have to remove my black bin bags from the bin when they are only half full. Also the hinged lid works very well; however I am limited to where I can place it in my kitchen, as the only free spots have a work surface. The lid rises up so I've had to have it free standing in the utility room next to kitchen. It's a shame there isn't an option to slide out the inner compartment from the front which would have made this bin far more versatile.

We are delighted with this bin which has really been well designed for use by Simple Humans like us. As we see it these are the pros and cons of this Simple Human 30L Rectangular Touch-bar Bin;Pros- Looks and feels very well made with a fingerprint resistant stainless steel finish on the outside and plastic lining plus a plastic liner bin inside.- The touch-bar design really works well - you can open the bin by pressing the touch-bar with your hand or by nudging it with your elbow or knee etc.- The lid is nicely damped, rises gently and opens wide plus the hinge is internal so the bin can be placed flush against the wall.- It's easy to replace the liner - the inner plastic bin is ventilatedto prevent air getting trapped between the bin and liner.- The liner is invisible from the outside of the bin once fitted.- The bin can readily be moved on its nylon feet.- The dimensions ensure sufficient capacity (30L) and the bin will fit nicely into most kitchens. (There is also a 40 litre version if you need more capacity).- Supplied with a 10 year warranty and comes with three Simple Human bin liners.Cons- The lid opens upwards and this requires some extra clearance.- No obvious care instructions are supplied.- Nothing else I'm aware of.In summary, this kitchen bin lives up to the high standards of design and construction that Simple Human are famed for. It looks great and is very practical. Recommended.

If you're looking for a kitchen bin that looks expensive, you're looking at the right model. I put it in my kitchen and immediately my kitchen looked run down in comparison. It's a wonderful addition though, as all you need to do to open this bin is gently nudge the flap with your side or your elbow - you don't need to use your hands, and that makes it ideal for scraping food off a plate into. Of course if you live in an area with dedicated food waste collections, your bin arrangements may be more complicated than that, and I'm using mine for recyclables. This bin isn't just stainless steel, it's fingerprint proof as well. You get three free samples of the company's bin liners, but you can use shop-bought or council refuse bags just as well. The bin is just the right size and is heavy enough to stand its ground when the lid-flap is pushed, even when empty, but it's not so heavy that you'd have trouble moving it elsewhere in the room if you wanted. The top section comes off and reconnects effortlessly when you fit or remove a bin liner.I'm new to the concept that a bin, even one in the kitchen, needs to look elegant or stylish, but this one does and it's good to know I don't need to tuck it away round the back door when I know visitors are coming. In fact, and I'm not bragging, but I actually did have a visitor the other day who I noticed was eyeing it with envy!

I love my new bin - it's tall and thin and looks beautiful in my kitchen - the out-of-the-ordinary shape adds to the je ne sais quoi. The lid is tactile - it's easy to open and really doesn't leave fingerprints. I prefer to manually open a bin rather than wave my hand in it's direction. It's not soft-close but I knew this when I bought it - you click it shut. If you're looking for an up-to -the-minute bin, then this wouldn't be for you for that reason. There are holes at the bottom so the inner plastic bin doesn't create a vacuum and trap the bag when you're emptying. There's a rectangular hole at the back of the outer metal bin so you can lift it (rather awkwardly if it's full, one handle isn't enough)but you can't see it.I went for the 40L - if there had been a 50L I think I would have gone for that. Otherwise, it's perfect. £120 for a bin is ridiculous though but it is lovely (£140 on SimpleHuman site). £5.99 for bin liners - what's that all about? I hope they're bio-degradable - I've just checked, apparently they're not. You get some free samples to tempt you (I don't think so) but you can use normal (bd) bin liners without them showing. There's a 10 year guarantee - that's great. I've registered my bin on the SimpleHuman website in case the lid breaks but I have high hopes, you don't give 10 years if you're not confident it will last.

This review score applies to the bin. Unfortunately, the seller feedback option doesn't seem to be available for this item on my account, so I have included some important concerns about this aspect as well.I chose this bin to stand snuggly against a kitchen wall in a relatively confined space. It has a good capacity for our needs and on first impressions a useful and effective opening mechanism. It was more expensive than I was expecting, but having had some cheaper ones fail, I thought it would be worth a punt and if it had been in good condition it would have been a keeper. So much for the bin.The tatty packaging looked like it had gone several rounds with Anthony Joshua. The bin itself had several small dents in it and within the packaging was the printed return sheet from a previous customer (including personal details of name, address and phone number). The bin had obviously been returned damaged and then simply sent out again in the same return packaging. I suppose the fact it didn't contain someone else's kitchen waste was a minor positive. I have returned the item, so keep a watch out, you might be getting it next time around!

Well, that took some doing, spending over a 100 quid on a bin... My friends and family think I'm mad, but just go and look for a new bin.Go on, what you after, stainless steel? That rules out the 30-50 quid plastic bins, which all look rubbish (ha!). So, how much we looking at for stainless steel, 50, 60 upwards? But those are the ones that are just... Meh. Doesn't fit in the space I need it to, doesn't look very nice, and probably has that amazing "lasts 3 months before it breaks" sensor lid.So, the more reputable brand next, Brabantia. Oh they look ok, generic, round, but probably decent quality. 90 quid! Dammit I'm not paying that for a bin! No way, needs to be something special for that.Ohhh, hello SimpleHuman bins, you look great, just too expensive... You look great though. Perfect size. Nice finish. Great design. Different. Stylish (for a bin). Ahhhhh go on then I'll spend a little extra for something I actually really like!Really, really pleased with it. If you it's too expensive for a bin, you're right. But sometimes you just gotta spend a bit to get what you want. Nice features on it, bags fit perfectly, just perfect.

This bin really is fingerproof, less wiping to keep it looking good. It's stylish or at least as stylish as a bin can be so looks good. The rectangular shape is fab as it goes against the wall and doesn't stick out too much. The wide opening means there aren't any spills (tends to be a problem when you have children/grandchildren).Easy to empty and holds a lot. I tend to prefer touch lids as they are more functional than pedal bins and this is a really good design so easy to operate with your hands full.Construction seems good quality easily as good as the Brabantia bins I've had in the past. Time will tell about the quality. Two really minor points on mine but they don't make me want to reduce my overall score; the first is my lid is ever so slightly misaligned,no one else has noticed it so perhaps I'm a bit picky (but it is expensive for a bin), the second is (and this is definately me being picky) it is noisy to close, a definate metallic clunk, but hey it's a bin.All in all it's a really nice looking, well designed, functional bin even if it is a bit expensive as a repository for my rubbish.

Extremely sturdy and very smart. I've never had a fancy bin for which I had to buy special liners for but this works out perfectly for me. The liners aren't that pricey for their quality, and this size suits our 2-person household just fine - we cook dinner more than half the week and produce 1 bin bag a week. The touch bar is soft open - super strong and remains sensitive to a small amount of pressure. It's extremely hygienic and convenient when your hands aren't free. The entire thing is easy to clean inside and out.The metal bin has a plastic insert or inner bin that is very well designed at the base. There are vents to let the air out and allow the liner to sit properly inside, while being placed high up enough on the insert so any leakage doesn't spill into the metal outer bin (had one leakage from the liner since I bought it, but due to disposal of a sharp object, so our fault). The liner also tucks firmly and neatly over the top lip of the plastic insert so it stays in place, but doesn't stick out of the bin when it is shut. Most importantly, it makes my kitchen look more expensive :D

I'm not the kind of person who could ever justify spending a hundred pounds on a bin so I'm very pleased to be able to try this one out as part of the Vine programme. It is certainly a quality product that feels as though it will survive the rigours of a family household. The stainless steel finish doesn't pick up any fingerprint marks and wipes clean with water. The black plastic bin inside it lifts out easily and more importantly fits snugly. The bin comes with 3 custom made bin bags which are naturally a perfect fit, but it will take a standard bin bag and the design of the lid means that any excess plastic at the top of the bag will be hidden away so it all looks very neat. The touch bar makes the bin easy to open with hand or even hip, the lid flipping up fully to make a large opening for you to deposit your rubbish and then a push down with the hand or wrist (if you're keeping mucky hands clear of the metal) closes it easily too. The construction of it all feels durable and the bin even comes with a guarantee for peace of mind. All in all, I'm a very happy man.

This bin now takes pride of place in our kitchen. Fortunately it fits perfectly into the available spare space but that is just an additional benefit. Over the years we have had many a bin - mainly plastic, some with pedal assisted lid lifts and more recently a metalised one with an automatic (battery powered) lid actuated via a proximity switch. The auto lid bin was very user friendly but, due to misuse on my part (I have to agree with my wife here), the mechanism got broken and unfortunately unrepairable. This replacement is relatively expensive but benefits by being very easy to operate, very robust (we have had it some months now with no problems), really does not show fingerprints (but there are no children around),doesn't get dirty around the lid and the liner bag is easy to remove without snagging on any edges around the bin's rim. The bin is really a pleasure to use, sad as this may seem!If you can afford it then I would recommend that you go for it. My wife was dubious at first but now she is thinking it perhaps wasn't such a bad idea after all!
