This wooden bead set is of really good quality; the colours are vibrant and the beads are well-made. The beads are all contained in a lovely wooden box. My six-year old daughter has absolutely loved threading these beads into different patterns for necklaces and bracelets. There are a minimum of 120 beads in this set, and five different coloured cords for them to be threaded onto. This encourages your child to practice their fine motor skills, and even introduces them to different concepts of patterns and order values, which make up part of the key stage 1 maths curriculum. The main thing about this set is that it is so versatile and your child can just go with whatever they fancy.I would recommend that this set is suitable from about the age of three, with supervision. Caution is needed in terms of supervision of young children due to the cords contained and the strangulation risk, and the beads being a choking hazard. If your child is supervised, they should be able to spend many hours enjoying this set.Overall, a quality beading set that would make an ideal present too!

I absolutely love Melissa & Doug products and so does my daughter. Nearly all of their products are reasonably priced, good quality, imaginative and full of fun. And Melissa & Doug Butterfly Friends Bead Set is no exception in fact this set would also help to improve a child's dexterity, or indeed help anyone who has problems with their fine motor skills.Beautifully detailed and handcrafted, the wooden butterfly beads coordinate with five cords and an amazing selection of accent beads for distinctive jewellery creations that are easy to achieve and lots of fun to wear. This kit includes 150 wooden beads, 5 cords and a wooden tray.My daughter had a wonderful time making bracelets and necklaces with the various beads, accents and butterfly beads supplied, she even made me a stunning necklace in blue beads and butterflies. Beautiful. In summing up ...Melissa & Doug Design Butterfly Friends Bead Set would be a lovely stocking filler for Christmas or as a gift at any time.

Nice little jewellery starter set ideal for little girls, ideal for improving co-ordination and dexterity.A good selection of colourful beads and butterflies, the combinations and possibilities are endless. I did find the paint chipped in a few of the beads and what appeared to be some poor bits of wood that were painted over, however there are so many beads they were just left out and my daughter didn't even notice. Although I like the wooden box provided, it is not the best storage solution as there is no lid and once opened from new, the contents are not fully contained, therefore this would potentially leave loose beads if they are not all used and a potential hazard if the box was droppedor tipped over by accident. This set would make a good purchase or gift for any creative little girl. The quality is very good and typical of Melissa & Douglas products.

Fantastic product. My son bought 2 different sets for my 2 and 4 year olds. The beads are large and very colourful and very easy for little fingers to grasp. The threading cords are great too as they have shoelace type ends. My girls play with these lots, are able to make their stuff with me watching rather than having to do it for them and they never get frustrated unlike an ELC make your own jewellery set they received. The ELC set requires glue, the bits fall off and the threading cords fret at the ends resulting in you making the jewellery and dealing with very upset frustrated children. This set is great and very reasonably priced. The box is a great idea but it would have been perfect if it came with a lid.

Bought these beads to make bracelets for my daughter's teachers as an end of term present. There were plenty of letters to make all the teachers names and class name and we had great fun doing them! Made a lovely personal present. The beads are great quality and seemed very durable. Threading was easy for my 3 year old. They are designed more for threading and knotting up than for creating jewellery pieces but we cut the laces and tied them up no problem. Great for letter recognition. Lovely bright colours. As with all the other comments, such a shame that a lid of some kind is not provided, especially as with a clear lid they would make a very aesthetically pleasing display piece.

I'm a sucker for wooden Toys, and Melissa and Doug seem to have it covered! This kit is great, lots of pieces and they've weighted the letters to account for those most commonly used. My daughters love making bracelets / necklaces from this. It's a great mix of shapes, colours and letters to allow them to make personalised little gifts for friends and family.I've read the comments about the "tray" - As mentioned I'm a bit of a sucker for Melissa and Doug and all/most of their craft items (stamps etc) come in a similar tray. It's not ideal, but nothing protrudes from the tray so they can be stacked, and so long as they are stored "upright" nothing will fall out.

These were a present from me to an 8 year old niece. They are pretty much as you see. Its a shame that the nice wooden base does not have a lid, very poorly thought out by the silly manufacturers. Ive seen other reviews making the same comment. (they have lost a star on my review for this!)On the plus side, the string you thread the beads onto has bits on the ends (like a shoe lace) which makes it easier to thread the beads. Ive noticed myself that the cheaper sets do not have this, making it much more difficult for little fingers to thread it on. My nephew likes the beads too, he has just turned 3.

This went down a treat with my two 5 year old twin nieces, 3 months after they started school. Bought the M&D stamp-a-scene-pad-garden fairy set for them too but they definitely preferred this. As I understand it (I've not looked at it in any great detail myself), there are a few thick shoelaces to thread letters and beads onto, to then start again to re-thread i.e it doesn't make necklaces/bracelets as I believe some of the other M&D sets do. Excellent quality, would definitely recommend. Have bought M&D sets for friend's children before and they've always been well received.

I bought three sets of these beads and used them to create necklaces and keyrings at a fundraising event. The beads are solid, vibrant and lettering is funky. Only problem was the selection of letters meant that I ran out of some letters very quickly and there is no opportunity to purchase refill letters.Educationally these beads are not ideal as they are all in capital letters and children need to know and recognise small letters to start with.I do agree with another reviewer who commented that there was no lid, and this is inconvenient especially since the beads are small.

Lovely set. Beads come in a variety of shapes and colours, and nicely finished and of good quality. Bought as a present for my 3 year old daughters birthday. She loved it and spent a good half hour making a necklace (with supervision). Really nice activity to do with her. Think this offers really value for money, as enough beads and strings to make 8 necklaces, which can be undone, and taken apart to start over again. Really pleased with this, and would recommend. Would make a lovely gift. Only downside is that the tray doesn't come with a lid, so storage will be tricky.

I brought this go rogues set to try and have a few hours during half term where the word "bored" wasn't mentioned! These were on special offer so I thought I'd give them a go. My daughter loved it and so did I! The quality was excellent! Really good. The colours and designs really got her imagination going. She made 6 necklaces as gifts for various friends and family members. We had a lovely bonding experience. I'm going to purchase more for her and as gifts. The only tiny niggle was the drill holes on the large hearts were too low meaning they kept turning upside down.

Got a box from Hamley at £13. Amazon is now selling it at £9. Feeling completely ripped off !!It was supposed for my 4 years old to play but ended up I enjoyed playing it. Making some bracelets for her friends.Lots of -ve comments about no lid. I used kitchen clinflim to keep it for the time being.Storage is not my problem. However, my major issue is, it only provide 8 purple plastic clips.ie for 8 little bracelets. What am I going to do with the rest ? Need to find those clips from somewhere.I think it is great quality !

Lovely set of beads for children to make into braclets etc. This was bought as a present for my daughter (3 years old) who enjoyed threading the beads on to the laces. The beads come in a wooden tray which is great but it really should have come with a lid rather than a plastic covering which was purely for packaging purposes. We've had to transfer the contents of the box into a plastic tub that has a lid to prevent the pieces getting lost. Otherwise this is a nice item and ideal for birthday presents/stocking fillers.

We are massive lovers of the Melissa and Doug products/toys in our house. Now this bead set is too old for my daughter but my 4 year old niece loves this kind of thing. The beads are very pretty and colourful, in my presence my niece made me a very beautiful butterfly necklace :-)She had hours of fun playing with this kit and all of us including my husband ended up with some very pretty jewellery made for us.Definitely worth the money and I will be looking into other kits for her birthday in November.

This is a must, great value and lots of fun. Children love making bracelets.I gave this to my son for his birthday, he had 3 friends over for a sleepover and before they camehe made them all a bracelet with their names on. I didn't know whether they would like them (being 7 year old boys!), but to my surprise they loved them! They all put them on and thanked my son for making them, it was lovely!Makes a lovely present and something you don't find in the high street shops!
