This pack was perfect for an overnight backpacking trip. Stap on the back helped me pull our pup out from the swimming holes after playing fetch (her paws key slipping on the wet rock). Pockets - one small, one large - on each side allowed for storing items of various sizes such as food, treats, water, etc. Big pockets are nice and deep. The stability of the pack allowed for our pup to run and jump, forgetting she even had it on. The pack stayed balanced despite varying weights on each side. The pack is hand washable. I wish it was safe for the washing machine, as you can imagine after outdoor adventures it gets it fair share of dirt and grime. Love the bright green color, making it easy to spot her.Multiple places to hook items onto the pack for storage (dry while hiking in the sun). Our dogs girth is 27 inches - we are always right on the line between small and medium. We went with the small and it fit her well (on the snugger side but not too tight). A bit more costly than other packs but well worth it, w/ the quality and performance of the product.

Eighty quid is a lot of money to take a gamble but I'm glad I did, very impressed. It might appear obvious but it is essential to balance the weight on each side. I limited out first outing to 3 miles with only towels stuffed in peddle bin liners on each side of the pack. We fine tune adjusted the harness during the walk and Dennis (featured) has a tendency for over exuberance. Whilst I walked 3 miles I'm certain Dennis ran, swam, paddled, walked and rolled many more. Initially I had concerns he would find the pack cumbersome and restrictive... but not at all. He still pushed through brambles, jumped gates and even managed to roll in badger poo (his favourite) without any issue.

My lab/husky puppy weighs 50 lbs and loves his pack. He knows when I get it out we are going for fun. He sits and I am easily able to get him into it. He is a growing boy, so I appreciate how easy it is to adjust. He is able to relive himself without wetting the straps. I love the handle on the back for when we are going over rocks and also as a way to get a hold of him when other dogs are on trail and he forgets his manners (he REALLY wants to play with ALL the dogs and has no sense of ones that just aren’t in the mood. We are working on that.) On that note, with 50 pounds of lift, I’ve had no issues with him complaining or failure in stitching etc. super happy with the product

Got hooked on Ruffwear products years ago when I first tried their harnesses, so I knew I could count on the quality and durability of this backpack. I have a tall, lanky 75 lb. mutt (German wirehaired pointer/Great Dane/Sheep Dog mix??) who is deep chested at 32". He was at the cut off between a medium and a large, so I opted for the large and it fits him perfectly. Love the multiple pockets--two of which are quite large. Can easily fit a small hoodie and a 32 oz Hydroflask in one of the big pockets with room to spare. He's estimated to be around 1 years old so can be quite wily, yet the pack sits snug and in place.

Tried several backpacks before finally spending the extra money for this Ruffwear. The extra money spent is worth it. Most backpacks seem to adjust poorly and end up all crooked on your dog. Not this one. I use this as a work backpack and put 5-10 pound weight on each side and my pup rocks it like a champ. The backpack stays in place and it’s comfortable on him.I do wish the backpack was a little more sleek instead of puffy, only because I don’t need all the storage. That’s a personal complaint so I won’t knock off any stars. Backpack is great. I got it on a recommendation from a friend and you should, too.

I bought this in a medium for my 14mos old Pittie mix pup. (34-36lbs/26" at chest). She stands still to put get into it. Then she prances around like my wife when she buys a new dress..lol. I bought the brush guard harness with velcro attachment just to prevent any chaffing. She wears it around the house and yard, short walks, adding weight gradually- then 2 bottles of water, then snacks and food. Maintain balance in the pack. No issues so far. Cannot wait for better weather up here in Maine....Short hikes then a few over nighters in the Presidentials!! Cannot wait-to take my new hiking companion.

I kind of miss the styling of the old models- just for aesthetics but the quality and functionality have carried right over to the new. One new feature I like about the new version is that the loop on the underside of the left saddlebag that the front girth strap runs through now has a buckle release, so you can cinch the girth strap first and then clip the bag to it instead of having to run the strap through the (fairly small) loop and try to cinch and close it with the saddlebag blocking your hands and view. Or you can leave the loop closed and still do it the old way if you prefer.

I have a first generation 90+ pound labradoodle. Yes he looks like a lab LOL, he got more of his mommy. Anyway, this backpack adjusts to fit him perfectly! He doesn’t mind having it on, in fact, I think it’s a welcome break from having his leash on his collar. It looks great and is sturdy. He can carry his own food and water on backpacking trips. Of course, I don’t load it down with more than 30lbs because I believe it’s a third their body weight is what you should go off of. Great backpack, so glad I bought it! It’s got nice coverage to spray for mosquitos, too. Great purchase.

This thing has been great! Now I can put all of my dog's supplies in here and she can carry it herself. We've been on some pretty long hikes with this thing on her and have no complaints. It is fairly durable. She'll take off after a squirrel smashing through bushes and downed branches and haven't noticed any wear on it yet. It is not water resistant though. We've been on some treks where she had to walk through a fair amount of tall wet grass and I've found standing water inside them afterwards. All-in-all, 10/10: would buy again.

This is great, but perhaps a little larger than we thought. If like us you’re right between sizes, you may want to opt for smaller unless you want really large pockets. Regardless, it’s great, our dog loves it - it doesn’t stop him doing anything (including swimming!). It’s great quality from ruffwear as you’d expect. We have a 35kg golden retriever (working, not stockier show variety) and went for L/X-large, medium may have been better on pocket size , but we just won’t fill the pockets. Harness is adjusted to smallest size.

Okay, so i ordered for my 85LBS lab mix, he loved it but it was way too big. I do love the brand and think if i kept it it would have lasted a very long time. But this pack is just way too big, i think he can carry my pack in his back. This is really intended for a LONG hike, like a through hike. Also the reason i am giving it 4 stars is because the back came in used (meaning i can tell it has been worn and the packaging was taped together with packing tape (poorly done).

This pack is great so far. I bought a M and a L/XL for my 70lb Catahoula. The L/XL was big and VERY spacious, but maybe too much so. The M fits his deep chest when maxed out. This pack is great for throwing some discs in, a 6-pack, or it even just went on a week backpacking trip.I like this pack but next time I will buy the Mountainsmith brand due to its larger, more padded construction.

Seems like a pretty good pack. My border collie/heeler carried this on a 5 day backpacking trip with approx 10lbs of food/treats/water/etc. It was tricky to get the weight distribution right especially after feeding him and then having to readjust stuff in the pack.My only issues are that it's not waterproof and seems to make my dog very hot. Oh, and I wish it came in more muted colors!

Love this pack.I was on the fence for weeks about spending so much on a pack without getting to see/test it out first. But once it came I was happy I bought it. My dog let me put it on him and he never tried to get it off. He carries it happily, and it seems to fit well. It stays relatively centered, unless you have to pack something only on one side in which case it will twist a bit.

The backpack fits my border collie perfectly. It provides support of the chest and shoulders and the adjustable straps allow for a nice snug fit so that the saddle bags don’t slide. The straps have padding, which is an added bonus. The packs fit a great deal, too. Overall, the pack is multifunctional and durable. My dog loves to go on walks and hikes with this backpack!
