I have to admit to being a bit dubious when ordering this game as I've never come across a decent bike sim for the PS2. MotoGP was too arcacey for my liking. The reviews I've read online -here and at game sites - have been mainly pretty much on the money. Riding Spirits is a really good game! As a biker myself I was so pleased to see accurate representations of new super sport rides as well as many from the recent past - RD250, FZ600, GPz600, OWO1, CB750four etc.The game has the four Japanese manufacturers: Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha; and boasts around 200 bikes. There are also stacks of leathers and helmets to choose from (Shoei and Aria). There are three camera positions only (which is something that could be improved on should there be a sequel,of which I am hoping! I'll come to that later). There is either behind-far, behind-close or onboard. As a biker myself I know that you don't get an onboard view when riding, your view-point changes on cornering as your head goes down and to the side and on accelleration and braking it goes either up or down. In GP500, SBK2000 and 2001 for the PC you get a proper helmet-view, as though you really were riding the machine. There aren't many tracks and none of them appear to be real ones. Some of them are very hard to learn as the graphics aren't wonderful and they are very complicated with lots of bends - but I'm getting there lol.You can upgrade your bikes with almost everything concievable, from engine tweaks to lighter, stronger frames, suspension and brakes. If a sequel does come out, I'd love to see the helmet-cam view, more bikes from other manufacturers and some real-world tracks.I'd recommend this game heartily to two-wheeled petrol heads out there. Lots of potential to be the Gran Tourismo for bikers!

To Start this review I'll just let you all know I didn't even like motorbikes until I bought this game.It has completely changed my view on motorbikes, and they're actually fun to race with on the game. I especially like the ailbity to buy your racing leathers and helmet, as you can personalise your character by wearing one of the hundreds of different designs by several differant manufacturers. Another enjoyable part of the game is purchasing and upgrading a motorcycle, even down to changing wheel colours. The 200 or so different bikes also feel different to drive as the engine power and weights of the bikes are different. This brings me on to the racing,at first it's quite difficult to stay on the bike round the corners but it doesn't take a huge amount of getting used to. Particularly as there is a training mode to help you get used to the aspects of racing the motorcycle. Then once you're good at controlling the bike you can start to win races, earn credits and hence buy new equipment. There is also a 2 player mode so you can compete with one of your mates which can be interesting. So there are some of the good points of the game there are a few minor bad points. Sometimes the races become a little difficult to win but that's mainly down to driver skill and having the right bike. There is also no different difficulty settings for the Riding Spirits (career) mode so you just have to get good enough to do the level of difficulty that it's at. I've seen this advertised as Gran Turismo on two wheels and I truly think that it is. Overall I think this is a great game and I hope this review helps you, and if you buy the game I hope you enjoy it.Thanks for reading my review, bye.

Like most other people ay when you first go to this game you find yourself hitting the wall and barrier more times than you can count. HOWEVER don't give up, this is because you most likely think you can race these things like cars, thats wrong, you need to brake about 4x further away as bikes don't have the sheer stopping power of cars. Once this has been mastered you can get down to really enjoying the game and getting along with it. looking at the various no of bikes available is amazing. it has some old classic bikes that you can win as prizes along with up-to-date brand new bikes that you see on the race track. there is a big difference when stepping up a class in this game.i have been using the susuki GSX-R 600 for a while and just got the 750 version, expecting with the same mods there not to be much difference but there was! the 750 takes so much more time to brake as it is heavier with more momentum and moving at phenomanal speeds. however unlike the 600 the 750 accelerates sooo hard that off the line it will keep a wheeli going with the right settings al the way upto 5th gear by which point your doing around 200kph roughly 125mph, by this point you start to worry as the corners come quick. again the handling is very realistic especially on the simulation setting.so overall if your not willing to put in the time to learn how each bike handles and behaves don't bother with this game as you won't enjoy it, but if you are willing to spend the time on learning how the behave and what modifications and settings do exactly what then you will love this game and never want to put it down!

As you can probably guess I am a big bike fan and have ridden high performance bikes for 12 years. From that point of veiw I can tell you that Riding Spirits is very close to the real thing. The game is incredibly difficult at first and the realism may put most general gamers off, But RS should be treat as a simulation and as such will take a bit longer to master. Some people will not like getting thrown off the bike just for hitting a patch of dirt on the side of the track while leant over but that is what happens in real life ( I have the wrecked leathers to prove it ). The range of bikes available is extensive and the detail such as smokey 2 strokes and rumbling big twins adds to the realismand gameplay,Also any new parts or tuning added to the bikes will be very noticable during the race. Any real life bikers will probably notice that taking real racing lines offers great rewards but pulling them off is very difficult. All in all the feeling of grinding your kneesliders while winding on the power is almost as much fun as the real thing. The only bad points are the lack of a 3rd person view in two player mode and the lack of tracks available, Yes its the old 7 tracks and 7 in reverse make 14 on the back of the box trick and the game could be improved by adding realistic weather effects. Bike fans will love it because their favourite or dream bike will probably be in there and none bikers will love it as long as they dont expect it to be as easy as GT3.

I Had Mixed feelings About This game when i read so many reviews on the net about how it was GT3 but with bikes. so many reviews are of the beta version. I can say after the first 10 minutes i was eady to throw the game in the bin, but i had a rest and came back to it, and as long as you remeber that the braking zone on the bike before upgrading it is shall we say a little bit poor you will all of a sudden start to really enjoy this game. You start by picking your bike leathers and helmet, there are over 200 bikes and many more leathers and helmets available, but to start with you are limited to just 250 cc's and then you add to these as you win more races and build up your points.the bikes once you upgrade feel so different to the first bike you jumped on and this for me is whats great about it. my advice as you start of is to do the first race several times building up your money then of course soup up the beast and sooner than later you will be running round the track as easy as 123. and if you still cant go to options and switch the control to arcade that makes the game even more easy. in all this is a great game just dont give up to soon and you will soon love this little game graphics are same as GT3 but with the bikes you acually see your modifications to the bikes which is great. you can tell its the same engine but who would complain about that!!! So summing up If you like GT3 and you love Motor bikes This Is Your game. 5 out Of 5
