I've been a fan of real techniques brushes pretty much since they came out and one set I invested in was the face/base set at the time. All real techniques brushes are colour coded to their intended purpose, orange/copper being base, purple being eyes and pink being sculpting/finish.This set is the new version of that original set and as I still have them in perfect condition (testifying to the longevity of the brushes) I can see whether these are an 'upgrade or update' which may also help those who are wondering whether to replace or update their collection.This set comprises of 4 brushes; a square foundation brush, a fat buffing brush, a smaller 'microphone' shaped contour brush and a tiny triangular detailing brush.This set differs from the original inclusions only in the square foundation brush, in the original set there was a firmer 'face' brush that resembles the new edition sculpting brushes.The foundation brush resembles a flat detailing/edging paintbrush with a straight squared off edge (many have a oval tip) I quite like this for distributing product evenly across the face before going in with a beauty blender (or this brand's miracle blender) just to work the product in to get a softer more 'realistic' diffusion of product, though it's pretty good for blending otherwise other than in the eye area.The buffing brush is almost identical to the original, but I can tell a big difference, the original is much more densely packed with bristles and has a firmer tension when buffing into the face great for really working in powder say using the Sonia Fyrza technique. The one included in this set is far softer and less densely packed, the bristles splay more when buffing powder into the face meaning you overall get a softer blend but you have to work harder for it. I like this for a soft dusting of bronzer or pink complexion powder just to warm the face after foundation.The contour brush is the same, softer and less densely bristled, this isn't such a bad thing as its good for not over egging the strobing/highlighting!The detailing brush is the same making it great for applying concealer to blemishes if you have them, but I used its older counterpart as an eye detailer adding shadow underneath or even lining the eye with black powder shadow. This is nowhere near as firm as the original making a complete mess of my shadow line!!With both sets next to each other, I would definitely reach for the square foundation brush (in collaboration with a blender) the contour from the new set for highlighting but would probably pick my old buffer for buffing powder and the new buffer for blending bronzer.The set is worth it if you need brushes for applying base product by this I mean foundation, concealer and powder not bronzer/blusher etc, but some aren't as firm as previous incarnations which may help some to improve their technique and not others as it is down to individual comfort. If you are already very happy with your existing foundation and buffing brush, I'd give this a miss.

If you are looking to buying your (or as a gift) first makeup brushes these are a good set to purchase first to immediately improve your look by applying eyeshadow with better technique and control. Much better than buying a cheap roll of 20+ brushes investing in this set is a better option as each of these is outstanding quality, has excellent finish and can be multipurpose until/if you want to add to your collection.This 5 part set is a great little starter set, but if you already have a collection of brushes there isn't anything amazingly new.The essential crease brush is a tapered fluffy brush which means it fits nicely into the socket crease with the tapered sides blending product perfectly through the crease.This is a really good brush and I've found it an easy way to speed up makeup in the mornings as there's little error with a quick wiggle and flick through the crease blending beautifully.The wide medium shadow brush is wider than others I've used but great for smoothing a base colour across the lid or blending another tone across the lid (say a sheer iridescent over a matte to add shimmer or vice versa to soften the look). This is a brush I keep coming back to regularly, it's also great for applying highlight or strobing to the fine bone structure of the face.The liner brush is probably the weakest of the bunch. It is pretty much an essential but lacks control unless you already have a practiced hand. It works better with a gel than other liner products but is just a tad too long for my feel.The shading brush is good, densely packed with super soft bristles, it's great for working product into a cut crease, or highlighting the inner eye or under the outer arch of your brows. It's also fab for getting a sharp contour line down your nose.The lash comb is pretty scary if youve never used one or only tried the plastic ones. This blows plastic ones out the water as the metal really gets in the lashes and untangles clumps and helps maintain height of curling, but yes it's a bit daunting I first try putting metal that close to your eyeball! Luckily it comes with a guard to protect against collywobbles when applying makeup otherwise but yes I can see less seasoned makeup fans relegating this one to the drawer of forgotten bits.Packaged with a special white acrylic pot that matches the same with other collections in the range but smaller this is handy as immediately solves the problem if storage, keeping upright is better for the brushes condition and hygiene.Overall this is a great set to start of top up a collection, but you may find some disappointments if you already gave a large collection of good brushes. That said Real techniques offers outstanding value for money so I'd never be unhappy with a new set!

This is a set of five brushes plus a small white plastic pot to keep them in (with room for a few more brushes too). The handles are a pretty metallic lilac colour with a black base. Each brush is helpfully labelled.There is a video on YouTube showing you exactly how to use this specific set of brushes if you'd like ideas and inspiration. You probably know all this already, but for anyone who isn't confident applying make-up, or who would like to do more than just a smudge of eyeshadow over your eyelid, this is a good way to learn some basic techniques to give a subtler more professional looking finish without spending a fortune.There are 3 brushes for eyeshadow, all very soft at the tip,but with a defined shape so you can be fairly precise when applying your make-up.The medium shadow brush is the largest and has a rounded tip, very soft, and works well for applying powder eyeshadow over a larger area. Apparently it can be used with cream eyeshadow too but I haven't tried this. It blends nicely and could also be used very effectively for concealer under your eyes or over a smallish area, giving a very good blended finish.The shading brush has shorter bristles, for applying a shadow under your outer lower lid. I found it a little thick for this, but it does blend nicely and again could be used for concealer or highlighter over a smaller area.The essential crease brush has longer, fluffier bristles, still nice and soft. This is for applying a darker shade to your eyelid crease. It seems a little thick for this job, and I'd generally prefer one of the other brushes for this, but it does depend on the effect you're looking for.The fine liner brush, for eyeliner, looks too thick at first glance, but it has a very fine tapered tip. It is stiffer than the other brushes, and looks like it would give reasonably good precision without dragging on the skin of your eyelid - I don't normally use liquid eyeliner so haven't tried this one yet. I think it would work well for e.g. a winged effect, but might be a little thick if you want a very fine line.The last brush is a lash separator, a fine metal comb, for dealing with clumps of mascara on your eyelashes. Personally I find an old mascara brush works better but this is probably more hygienic!Real Techniques brushes are all made of synthetic fibres (not animal hair), but the fibres are surprisingly soft and they feel much better quality than cheap synthetic brushes. They are easy to wash and dry nicely. They're not cheap but the fibres are very soft and haven't shown any signs of wearing, fraying, or falling out so I expect them to last a long time.

The set contains detailer brush, pointed foundation brush, buffing brush, and contour brush, it also has a white hard plastic cup for your brushes to sit in too.The detailer brush can be used for foundation, the pointed foundation brush is used for applying concealer and liquid foundation in specific areas such as under the eye,the buffing brush is used for powder foundations as well as blusher and bronzers, and the contour brush for cream or powder highlighter and bronzer to contour the face. The plastic cup is a rectangular hard plastic cup, plenty of room for all the brushes and a few extra pieces, but honestly this wouldn’t be my chosen method of storage so would prefer this kit came with a more versatile extra such as a small carry case so I could use these brushes on the go.Base products from Real Technique are orange in colour, I appreciate the colour-coding so it's easy to identify which brushes I need for which phase of my makeup routine, and the name of the brush is also printed on the side so you know which is which. Real Techniques are a good quality but also fairly light brushes so easy to use, the handles are metal but around an inch and a half of black plastic which allows you to get a good grip, the brushes themselves are dense so firm enough to do the job but still silky soft so feel pleasant on the skin.Real Techniques tend to be more expensive than some other brands, typically I will have no problem slapping my makeup on with a cheap £1 set of brushes, but you do definitely get what you pay for as Real Techniques are a much better quality. Currently this set is priced at £16 which is a really good value for all that’s included, especially considering Real Techniques quality.

This set contains a lash separator, medium eyeshadow brush, essential crease brush, shading brush, fine liner brush, and it also comes with a brush cup.The lash separator is a metal comb that helps to separate mascara clumps, you’ll often see plastic lash separators in sets like these but the metal is obviously better in terms ofbeing sturdier without as much risk of the brush breaking with rough handling or in a makeup case - not to mention the brush also has a cap to keep it protected too. The medium eyeshadow brush is wide and flat with tapered bristles so you can apply eyeshadow softly and blend, whereas the essential crease brush is a little more tapered to get into the crease of the eyelid, and the shading brush is short and dense to pick up a lot of eyeshadow to apply. The fine liner brush is meant for application of liquid, gel, or cream eyeliner so much smaller and narrower. The brush cup is hard plastic so sturdy, but doesn’t hold much more than this set.Real Technique are colour coded so orange is the base, purple is for the eyes, I appreciate the colour-coding so it's easy to identify which brushes I need for which phase of my makeup routine, and the name of the brush is also printed on the side so you know which is which.Real Techniques tend to be more expensive than some other brands, typically I will have no problem slapping my makeup on with a cheap £1 set of brushes, but you do definitely get what you pay for as Real Techniques are a much better quality. Can you ever have enough make-up brushes? Manufacturers and make-up artists keep coming out with new shapes and every brush is 'essential'. Is it really? Not according to a friend of mine, who is a qualified make-up artist for a leading US brand. In the right hand, a couple of brushes and your fingers are all you need. However, if you want to have fun and experiment, this new set is what you need for 'sculpting' i.e. make your bone structure 'pop'.The sculpting brush is really good - packed with bristles and angled, it's perfect for using on your cheekbones. I don't use contouring products (that's way too advanced for my skills) but I use bronzer, and this brush is perfect for applying it.The fan brush,according to the instructions video, can be used for placing smaller amounts of powder product on your face to 'mark' where you will then layer the contouring cream and various other products, but also to add powder products in general in a light, soft way. I find it useful for applying a thin layer of matte powder, just enough to set foundation without cakeing it too much.The setting brush is perfect for highlighter - small enough for a precision application on top of your cheekbones and brow bone without getting highlighter all over your face and ending up looking like a disco ball.The set comes with a handy little plastic pot for storing the brushes.This is another great set of affordable but good quality brushes from Real Techniques. They look good, don't break the bank and do the job really well.One final thing: I love how Real Techniques brush sets come in different, bright colours: I have orange, pink, mauve so far - and they're much more interesting to look at than the plain black of other leading brands.

These three makeup brushes are presented in a transparent plastic box. The brushes are supported within it in a semi-rigid plastic rack. Also included is a free upright box stand for the brushes, to keep them conveniently together on your makeup bar, and which prevents the bristles getting damaged.The fattest of the brushes is oblong in profile, full and voluptuous, soft and nicely rounded; it is the ‘sculpting’ brush that helps give you fine cheekbones, whether the angels have done that or not. The second is a round, smaller version about half the width, used for setting face powder over foundation or for applying blusher and powder eyeshadow. The third is a fan brush, which is very nicely feathered at its tip,for flittering away any errant powder flecks.The brushes have dark bodies, light tips and a deep, hot pink, shiny metal ferrule and handle. They do look very swish and quite glamorous. The bristles are soft, well tapered and feel very pleasant in use.I found that in use the free container didn’t work because the brushes are unsupported therein. My handy friend adapted the plastic sleeve from inside the presentation box so that its base (which has holes for the brushes) fits inside the free container. My brushes stand upright now and easy to select and return to their ‘parking place.’ With a moment’s thought by the packaging design team, the plastic sleeve could have been made to fit the free box and obviate the need for adaptation. But there you go.The brushes are a nice quality and the manufacturers do have a YouTube channel with demonstration videos of how to apply cosmetic to the best effect.

I really love the colour of these brushes, the orange really stands out. My kitchen is pretty much the same colour, i think its fab.I have a few sets in the range of these brushes now and i like the fact that each section of the face has different coloured brushes for easy identification. If that wasnt good enough you also have what the brushes are for printed on the barrels, hallelujah, because unless you are a professional make up artist you never never which brush does which job in the set.You get 5 brushes in this set with a handy little pot to keep them in. I personally think the pot should of been orange to match the brushes but its a small niggle.The brushes are soft yet firm,hold powder really well and glide across the skin and leave a fabulous finish. I am in my golden years and it didnt leave my face cakey or patchy and it held all day long. I was genuinely not aware that you put foundation on with a brush. I have always just used my fingers or a sponge, it was quite a revelation and just so much easier to apply as well. I thought it gave a much better finish on my skin.I have not heard of these ladies before but i am happy to support them in the future by buying more of their products.If you havent checked out their channel where i learnt crazy amounts of tips even i didnt know, then i would highly recommend having a look, its brilliant.

Out of all these brushes the Buffing one is my favourite for applying loose powder, it feels soft and gives a nice good application with no irritation. Next favourite has to be the one I used to apply spot concealer with, the smallest tip one that does a brilliant job. All the brushes are good and feel like items that will last. They come in a plastic cup shaped thing for ease of storage plus easy to get to and use in this. Did think at first wow how heavy the brushes must be then realized it was the holder they were in.Yes a good base set, some of the brushes you might not use as much as others but no loose hairs and they look bright and modern. Not the kind of brushes you would take out with them being a base set.Saying that I do wish they had tops on or something as the Buffing and the next chunky one I use for blusher/bronzer (usual brushes I tend to take out and about in makeup bag as they have tops on). Saying that though the results these brushes give is good. So using these as home then taking usual ones out and about with me.Four stars just as would like to take them out to use when out and about. Also when not on offer an expensive set for just four brushes considering these are just base ones and eye makeup ones etc for other areas might be needed for a full effect.

For a lot of ladies, make up is a skill that requires a lot of time and effort to learn, whether its just the basics of applying your lipstick or spending time learning how to use tricks to help redefine the face to hide certain features whilst accenting others its a set of skills that can be expensive to learn. Thankfully the company behind these brushes has thier own You Tube Channel to help teach you how to do it in such a way that it looks flawless.But learning is only half the thing. The other side is to have some quality brushes that will not only get the job done but last you years. Thats exactly what this set of brushes will do. They;re well made,feel like they're a quality product and help demonstrate that you don't need to buy a set of professional make up brushes (half of which you'll probably never use) when you can just buy a select few and make sure that they all have a purpose thus saving space in your makeup box.All round my other half was very happy with this set and whilst they may seem pricey for just three brushes the will not only prove thier value in years to come but demonstrate why this company are going from strength to strength.

This review was from my partner.With so many types of makeup brush on the market, it can be almost impossible to figure out the purpose of each brush.This Real Techniques Flawless Base Set is good. The detail brush is probably one of the only brushes in the set, which I have not had to use. The foundation brush does a fine job, as it gives you the ability to layer the foundation evenly with a nice smooth finish. Moreover, the foundation brush with its squared edge enables me to cover areas evenly. With The contour brush, I have found that it does a fine job as the shape lends itself to the task at hand and has bristles, which are nice and soft.The contour brush has a nice and fluffy structure with a slightly angled end; this brush fits perfectly in the hollows of the cheek. With the blushing brush, I have used this carefully to buff the powder onto my face working from the centre of my face outward and upward using small circular motions, and in this capacity, it does a good job.Overall, I found this particular set works well for me, and I believe it represents good value.
