Razer Kraken Tournament Edition: Thx Spatial AudioI really like these Kraken TE headphones from Razer for a number of reasons.The sound is fantastic, rich and full and the bass is adjustable separately.The Razer Kraken Tournament Edition is a wired headset that can connect just using a 4 pole 3.5mm jack. This is an audio standard supported by many devices allowing both sound output and microphone input on one plug. The nylon woven cable is just over a metre long and has an inline volume control and microphone on | off switch. Connecting direct to a phone or iPod on the move with this cable is fine. Using with an iPad and laptop likewise.The cable is a bit short for anything else.That’s not a problem though because this headset is designed to be used with the included USB audio controller and provides another 2 metres of cable.This USB controller connects via USB type A to your PC or supported console at one end and connect to the headset with a 3.5mm jack at the other.This audio controller provides a toggle switch to adjust bass, a push button adjustment for volume + and another for - along with a button to enable the microphone. There’s a red LED around the microphone with so you know when it’s active.There’s a separate toggle switch to adjust the balance between the volume of the earpieces and the microphone for in game use.The controller is branded THX and there is a spatial audio switch which works within the downloadable Razer Synapse 3.0 software.Even without this feature enabled the sound from this headset is very present and engaging - there’s a wide soundstage - there’s the illusion of space for every instrument or sound in the source which is very believable. Just listening to the Suspiria soundtrack with this headset made me jump and have to look behind me a couple of times.Which brings me to comfort and fit.This an over the ear headset with large ear pieces which are nicely padded and contain pressure reducing gel. The head band is of a single piece design which is padded and adjustable. Wearing this headset for a couple of hours at a stretch is no problem. By design people who wear spectacles may also find these more comfortable as there is a channel in the earpieces which accommodates the arms of your spectacles so that they are not pressed against your head by the headset.By nature headphones are quite isolating and these do block external sound to a large degree and at a reasonable volume have very little spill to the outside world. If you are sharing space with others your sounds shouldn’t drive them mad.This headset has a similar retractable microphone to other Razer models - being housed in the least ear cup and adjustable on a flexible wand.Others have reported that the microphone is the weak link in this type of headset - I’ve not used it in game chat and can’t be critical of that - I have used it for recording some narration and it’s usable enough.The big feature of this headset is the THX spatial audio and I found the sound so good without it - for this review I took the plunge and registered with Razer and downloaded the software from the website - wondering how much better the sound could possibly be.I downloaded Synapse version 2.0 for mac OSX.The headset is plug and play via USB on a Mac running OSX 10.11.6 showing up in the sound applet and selectable in either game or chat mode.To use the headset with THX spatial audio though you need to be running Razer Synapse version 3.0 - which is Windows only and suggests Windows 10 compatibility. I have not tried or tested this on a Windows device.Wired versus wireless - other Razer headsets have a wireless option - and going wireless can set you free if you need to roam - the downside being the requirement for charging and possible interference on the 2.4ghz band with other wireless devices and unstable connection quality.The Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headset is described as also compatible with PS4 | Xbox | Switch and many audio devices as well as with PC and Mac. As mentioned the Synapse 3.0 software is only Windows compatible currently.

When I look for gaming headsets to buy, I always consider the sound quality (obviously), comfort, noise cancellation quality, the bass (for footsteps) and the mic quality, so this review will be mainly based on those things.Sound QualityThe sound quality is phenomenal, all reviews say “for this affordable price, the sound quality is great”, but I don’t think that is fair, I believe the sound quality is great for 3 times the price of these headphones. Everything is crisp and clear. In addition to this, something I did not expect, these headphones are great for movie watch and music as well! The bass shakes the headphones but doesn’t overshadow the trebles and the highs.The 7.1 surround system software that you can download (with the activation code provided with the purchase) works like a charm and is perfect for fps and campaign gaming.ComfortThese headphones are ultra light and have such a compact build, they feel super comfortable on your head and ears. They have a tight fit but with all the padding, you can barely feel the headphones. These are perfect for long hours of gaming, so obviously ideal for these times with everyone being in lockdown and gaming for 12+ hours a day! Also the mic is easy to move around and very flexible which is always a good feature to have.Noise CancellationObviously there isn’t active noise cancellation technology on these headphones but if Razer said there is, they would’ve gotten away with it! You can barely hear things around you, I have a (extremely) loud mechanical keyboard and I cannot hear it at all which is just great. Which is kind of an ironic thing to say for this part of the review. Like I said, I have a very very very loud mechanical keyboard and as you can imagine, all my friends are always complaining, so I would have to put my mic input level to the point where they can barely hear me. With the Kraken X, the mic picks up nothing but myvoice, and it is so sharp and clear and all myfriends noticed it straight away. -just received the package-the packaging was decent but overall meh. sadly the headphones don't come with a pouch-microphone and speaker test on laptopspeakers ridiculously decent, not the best but far above average, comparing to the Powerbeats Pro sounds relatively the same, 'apart from when the beat drops' as expected. the microphone is not Walmart gaming headphone level but not the best, maybe after fiddling with it my opinion would change. but for now the microphone did not sound as fulfilling as the inbuilt microphone on my Mac.-had to wait for the console to update so that sucked, literally the worst timing.(really triggering).-still waiting for the console updatejust as stated all you need to do is plug into the controller to be connected to the console (xbox 1x).the speakers sound incredible for music, and It means a lot coming from someone that plays with a full sound system normally.noticed the headphones are quite heavy, you can really feel the weight on your neck, but it is manageable. I’ve tried Razer Gaming Headsets before and sometimes in the past their Achilles Heel was the mic, but not so on this Kraken Ultimate Headset and the ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) mic is clear as a bell and a big improvement on some previous models. These are headphones designed for serious gamers with a sense of fun - no-one needs their headphones to illuminate up and perform customisable light-shows, but it’s fun when they do. You’ll need to connect them to your PC via USB (there’s no option to use a standard headphone socket) and you must install Razer’s Synapse app and drivers to get them fully functioning. With that done you can customise many aspects of these headphones to suit your style.You can set various equaliser profiles and switch between them as you switch between games or app’s. The Dolby THX audio enhancement is pretty good, I’ve never been a fan of phoney surround FX but if you have to use one then THX is the one to use. It does open out the sounds stage and expand the perception of distance, it’s still a bit synthetic-sounding but it’s better than most. You can toggle the THX using a button on the headphones themselves, which is handy, but you can also have Synapse toggle it automatically as you switch between games or app’s.If you use the headphones without any enhancement or equalisation they’re still got a detailed and solid sound, though they lack the big deep bass you’d expect with music-orientated headphones. That’s not unusual with gaming headphones, think of all the gunshots and explosions in most action games and imagine what hyped-up bass might do to your poor eardrums - bear that in mind when setting the equaliser too. The best thing about the sound is the detail which lets you place sounds around you in the game, it makes it all more immersive.The mic‘s bendy stalk retracts into the headset when you don’t need it and the mic can be temporarily disabled by pressing an inbuilt microswitch, the tip glows red to let you know you’re maintaining radio silence. They’re an outsized set of headphones but are surprisingly light and comfortable to wear, though not that easy to adjust the fit while you’re actually wearing them. The cool gel-filled ear cushions do make a bit of a difference and spec’s wearers (like me) will find them more accommodating than most. Of the Razer (and other) gaming headsets I’ve tried I think I like these best, but they take a little bit of setting up and they place a bigger burden on the host PC. If you’re using a gaming PC that’s borderline performance-wise then these might not be very helpful headphones, I got clipping when I tried them with an older laptop, but otherwise they’re great and really immerse you in your game. as ever with Razer gear they’re really nicely boxed and presented too, a great gift for your favourite gamer, especially if that’s you!

I am not a professional gamer, but I do enjoy spending time playing games, either on a PC or my Xbox. I am not too fussed about amazing headsets, but this looked like something I have never owned before.It came quickly in a big box, containing the headset, the USB volume adapter and a small manual. This manual was very useful, clearly labelling each part, and instructions for how to use each component.The headset itself is very chunky, with thick ear cups and a very thick cushion. Although taking up a lot of space, this also means it is very comfortable and there is plenty of space for your ears, as the cushion is thick, and also has a large circumference.The headband easily extends,allowing you to find the perfect fit without any hassle, and it also contains another cushion, giving it all-round comfort over the head.The sound quality is phenomenal, having an equal variety of sounds. It is very clear, and the 360 degree sound is also brilliant, making the gaming experience very realistic.The retractable microphone is very convenient as it slides easily back into the left ear and so is tucked away. It can then be easily taken out, and used. The microphone does bend, so it can be positioned next to your mouth, and it is also very sturdy. Although, according to a friend, the sound quality from the microphone was not so good at the other end.The sound can be controlled by the volume wheel and the mic mute toggle on the box half way down the wire. This is very small, making it hard to find and also making it fiddly when trying to mute the microphone. The volume wheel does not clearly indicate which way to turn the wheel for a higher or lower volume. This means I had to try both combinations and it was pretty irritating!The package also comes with a USB Audio controller. This is designed to be connected to the headphones and then plugged into a PC or another USB port, to give the sound a larger variety. On this USB box, there are two volume buttons and a microphone mute button. These buttons are quite large, making it easy to change, and the microphone mute button also has a red light-up ring around the edge, clearly indicating when the microphone is muted or unmuted.The USB box also, on the side, has a bass controller, a game and chat balance wheel and a THX Spatial Audio Button. This can all be controlled when connected to the headphones and plugged into the USB port. The back of this box also has a plastic cover, and underneath that is a sticky surface, I assume to stick it to a wall or desk, so it can be in a fixed position.Having not had a headset of this quality before, I am really pleased with this product, and I am loving it. It does the job as a headset, with good sound, a working, retractable microphone and a comfy fit on the head. RAZER has certainly satisfied me with this product!

Well, it looks like this is my last Vine review. It looks like Amazon do not appreciate considered reviews and would rather people spam out 5* reviews on delivery out of gratitude and without testing the product.I already have the Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma V2, it's a nice headset, but the mic could be better and it's uncomfortable for long periods of time. This is almost the same product, but updated after feedback was taken from pro gamers.So is it an improvement? … Yes definitely.The earphone foam cushions may feel too squishy and insubstantial when you open the box, but they are exactly what is needed to make this the most comfortable headset I have ever used.The old foam cushions were too firm and the old frame too solid, so eventually you felt like your head was in a vice - not anymore - some complain that the frame feels weak, no, it's not, it's lightweight yet strong.Now the mic and the main reason for the delay... this could easily have been a 2* review as the mic was performing abysmally. However, the problem was with the Razer software and Steam's new voice chat. Do not use any software adjustments, noise reduction cuts out your own voice far too frequently for example. **EDIT I have since uninstalled the Razer software completely - it conflicts with far too many games.But overall the software is an improvement on the old model - just do not try to use it with previous models - that the older headset wants to use the old software and it is not compatible with the new software suite - and if you have the previous version of this Razer headset you will need to uninstall the old software before plugging in and installing this.The mic itself now retracts into the headset which is a nice feature which should also prolong the life of the mic. On recording my own voice the sound quality seems better too.The THX upgrade is appreciated - USB sound quality is improved with added breadth and depth (with some equaliser tweaking). And directional sound is improved over the Kraken v2.Also you can plug the headset directly into your own soundcard instead, except you are limited with the cable length being around 5ft (add another 2 metres cabling from the THX box to the USB connector).One feature added from the pro input is a switch to bring forward voice chat over game sound. This is pretty much a failure and can be ignored, the only noticeable difference to reduce sound overall.For me the Tournament edition is clearly superior to the Kraken v2. It is worth it for the comfort upgrade alone, but sound is improved, the mic (if you don't use the software enhancements) is improved and that's pretty much the 3 main things required from a headset. It's a shame that Razer don't go all out for improved speaker quality in the headphones, but for under £100 we can't have everything.

First ... make sure you are reading the right review for the right headset.There are a lot of Razer Kraken headsets and this is the Tournament version.Firstly ... there's now indents in the ear cups for glasses !! Never seen that before !! So if you wear glasses you don't need to worry about the legs getting squished and becoming uncomfortable.Next thing I noticed was these are very lightweight. The old set of headphones from Razer were the Aluminium frames and although they were super indestructible they also gave you fatigue after a while. These are 300g which is pretty good. However ... a negative here ...I don't feel like they would stand up to the level of punishment that the older aluminium framed headsets would.Setup is fairly easy but you will need to access a USB port which can be a pain if your main PC unit is under your desk/table which for a lot of gamers it is. However once you plug in the control interface then you can position the audio control switch anywhere.The switch has the usual controls for volume, noise cancelling, balance etc. However the thing I was very excited to see was the THX feature. You can definitely tell when the Noise Cancelling is on ... it's superb. HOWEVER the THX to me ... well it was working but it wasn't ... hugely different. The controls are updated (don't forget to update the software) but I wasn't blown away with the features. In terms of detail (treble) in the sound and the bass though, these are top rated and use Razers synapse software. The ability to judge where sound was coming from and therefore spatial awareness was also very good.Microphone - This is very good and again from speaking to people online there was no issues or problems hearing what i was saying.Comfort wise ... again ... very good, the ear cups didn't get overly warm and the head strap was sufficiently padded given how light these were. Longest I had them on was around 4 hours and I didn't get any problems or fatigue.A small negative was initially when moving my head about the headphones moved as the ear cups slid about. However that soon stopped ... either because they settled down or as my skin became warm maybe became a little damper and so the cup material had a little more friction against my skin.OVERALL: Razer produce some real duds now and again. I've seen them produce some great quality gaming gear and some real rubbish. They rely a LOT on their brand name and lately on some of their products it's not been good. However for the money (£99 at the time of writing) I think these are reasonable gaming headsets. I docked a star for the price. I think around 15% of this is just the name. You can use these with PC/MAC/PS4/Switch/XBOX 1/and mobile devices according to the blurb. I only used them with my PC.

I bought these because I was in the market for something good for my games on PC. I was drawn between these and another pair but decided to go with these. They're noise canceling and the microphone works well, but you may need to change some of the settings through the PC for it to suit you better. For the first 3-ish months, you could feel the cooling pads really set in on your ears, it was great. But now they don't really have that much cooling left in them, I can hardly feel it anymore. Not sure if that's just me or the fact I have used them every week. The headset is comfortable though and is adjustable for head sizes. The microphone is stored in the left side of the headset and can be pulled out.I didn't quite like how there wasn't a foam windshield or anything as such to cover it, but I ended up buying a pack anyway, so that's sorted. It has inline volume control and microphone mute with a 3.5mm L-shaped jack. I'm finding that the volume control wheel is a little sensitive, therefore when you do slightly catch it when moving or change position in your seat, your sound will boost to high or will completely mute. Not terrible, but it can be annoying.As I bought the Tournament Edition, I got the THX Spatial Sound Controls, where you can plug in your headset and then plug the THX Spatial Sound Controls by USB into the computer. This has some features that are good to have on hand, such as volume up/down, microphone mute (lights up with a red ring when muted), a 'THX Spatial Audio' button that lights up green when turned on, bass controls and priority between game and chat audio. It has a sticky back so that you can place it anywhere and it will never move. I have it on the leg of my desk and it looks great. When you plug this in, you get Razer's Synapse, which is their version of customisation and full control over the headset and Spatial Audio. It's useful and good software, easy to use, and recommended.The sound from these is amazing, and the microphone holds up pretty well too. I use the onboard sound card. I have also tested these on PS4 and found that they do the exact same job. However, because PS4 doesn't support 7.1 surround sound etc, you can use it to its full capability.Up until recently, the microphone started to sound 'robotic' as my friends would call it. I do think this may be because of my sound card not being up to standard and not due to the headset, which was my initial thought.I've since tested the headset on my laptop, both with and without the THX Spatial Sound Controls, and found it working perfectly, so I'll need to install a new sound card on my PC.

I already have a very good sound system at home, but sometimes if I'm gaming at night and don't want to disturb the neighbors or when I want to be immersed in the middle of the action a gaming headset is my go-to choice. This not only means I can crank up the sound to the maximum and hear every detail but also talk to friends with the headset mic.-Comfort- 4/5This headset is so light that sometimes you can forget you have them on. The ear cups are really soft and supple and fit around your ear nicely which means they are comfortable even for the longest periods. The headband is cushioned too making these a pleasure to wear every time and with them being adjustable they should fit just about anybody.-Build Quality- 3/5Mostly these are made out of a hard plastic apart from the cushioning.This is probably the reason they are so light but with this does affect the build quality to an extent. The plastic does a good job of keeping these rigid, but I can't help but feel after a bit of force or a hard knock some damage might occur. The headband flexes really easily, the hinge that is attached to the cups feels like it could come apart after a knock and the thin wire seems like it might not stand the test of time.-Sound Quality- 4/5As an amateur music producer, audiophile and general lover of music, film and games I am always picky when it comes to sound. I tested this headset out with a number of different games from shooting games like call of duty and battlefield, forza motorsport, farcry 5 and a bit of gta. In the story on battlefield I was immersed in the action, gunshots are intense and piercing, bombs are powerful and splitting and the roar of planes overhead in the sky really puts you in the front seat. With being 7.1 sound you feel like you are surrounded and this really adds another element to your game making you never want to use speakers again... Overall im very impressed-Verdict-This headset does impress when it comes to sound but if you travel around alot or you need something solid and robust that will stand the test of time this might not be for you. For a midrange price this offers a trade off of average build quality vs superb sound and comfort its just a case of deciding which one is most import to you.

Arrived quickly and well packaged - As per un-boxing and review with a comparison to a more expensive gaming headset video attached! These headphones are great for gaming for long periods. They are very lite and hence very comfortable to wear. I've used them for 2 hours happily.The material used is all plastic in order to cut the weight. The ear cups 25mm deep from the outer edge to the foam so you shouldn't get any contact there. The inside diameter is 45mm across by 60mm high - my ears fit inside easily. The packaging indicates that there are cutouts for those that wear glasses but it's so well hidden that I can't find any cutout on the actual product! I tried them with my sunnies on even if there were a cutout it wouldn't matter because the cushions are super squishy. The material of the cups is some kind of leather substitute.The sound quality is very good.Rather bassy. Great sound for the cost of them.I've tested this product on my PC which has a Creative Z series soundblaster. The product markets itself heavily as having 7.1 surround sound. It doesn't mention that it is simulated. The surround sound function is software that only works on Windows 10 64bit. No biggie for me so I downloaded it. Since it's software, it doesn't need a Razer product to work so to get the software to work, you need a code which is on a voucher in the box. The killer for me is - it simple doesn't work! With games that support surround sound (as many do) and you have a surround sound system, you can close your eyes and know roughly where something is. I'm playing Doom 4 and using these headphones and the software enabled. Close my eyes and al I know is it's on my left or right. Commonly know as stereo. I tried GTAV, same story. 7.1 is supposed to give lateral and vertical awareness but Razer have just used it for marketing purposes, which I think is plain wrong! Just be a little more honest, please.

This is a review of the Razer Kraken 2019 headset, which is the 2nd to latest addition of the Kraken lineup, and was a refresh of the previous Kraken models.This headset features Dolby Atmos 7.1 Surround Sound, which is useful when playing battle royale games like PUBG, Fortnite or general first-person shooter games, because by this you can tell where enemies are, as their footsteps can be heard around different directions from you. This feature can also be used for watching movies or listening to music in 8D audio.The headset is easy to set up and plugs into your 3.5mm audio jack, and requires minimal setup. The headset also comes with a spare audio splitter in case your PC has 2 audio sockets,one for mic and output audio. My Kraken 2019 headset came in a satin black finish which looked very modern and stylish, and fitted into any setup. The headset itself was quite heavy and felt good quality, the headset also features soft ear cups suitable for long gaming sessions. The clarity is good and their is barely any noticeable audio distortion. The bass is also high quality and feels really good.The only downside I've found so far is that these headphones are not yet supported by Razer Synapse 3, which is Razer's latest app for managing your peripherals, so if you want to adjust the audio settings for this headset using a suitable GUI, you'll have to downgrade to Razer Synapse 2.Lastly, the price is a little high (Coming in at £80) when placed against other suitable headsets for gaming such as the HyperX Clouds which also feature 7.1 Surround Sound. But in short, this headset is perfect for gamers both on PC and console as they're plug and play and support anything with a 3.5mm jack.

This product is an absolute Kracken wired headset, excuse the pun.First of all, the headset has a smart design and has two available colours: Black | Green. I have the black, however I personally think I would have preferred the green as they would have stood out more, which is what I like.Instantly noticeable when handling these was the weight; it's extremely lightweight! Whilst they're very lightweight, they are certainly not cheap feeling as they've managed to make them feel robust in construction. The ear-cups are over-ear and the cushions are soft and glasses friendly; this in conjunction with the low-weight design makes these extremely comfortable to wear.The audio cables are braided for extra durability,with the main one being completely fixed to the actual headset. the main audio cable can plug directly into your consoles controller for use with consoles such as the PS4. The other cable has a THX audio controller which offers 360° positional sound as well as other features; though to use this, you do need to download 'Synapse 3' for Razer's website.I've been using this headset primarily on my PS4, but also with my MP3 player and I have been really impressed with the sound quality which is very clear, has nice bass and decently balanced overall. Plugged into the PS4's DualShock 4, you get a really good sense of direction. As for the microphone quality, basing on a couple of recording through the share function, the audio captured through the microphone was very clear too.Final thoughts: The Kraken Tournament Edition headset is offers a high level of comfort and audio quality, would definitely recommend.

I have had these headphones for about a week now and I am a heavy-duty wearer of headphones in that I wear them for about 6-8 hours per day for a combination of work and gaming.Sound quality is excellent on them and I was hearing noises in Rainbow Seige that I had not hear on my other headphones before.The boom mic is excellent in two ways: I like the retractable feature by which it disappears back into the ear cup when not in use and even better the mute button is on the end of the mic, is easy to locate and lights up red when muted. Great feature.The fact that the earcups light up is great and makes my desk look fab....its a bit of bling but why not.Noise cancelling works well and it certainlymuffles the background ambient noise.My issue with the headphones is in terms of comfort.They are over-ear cups and I accept my ears are on the larger side (this was pointed out to me as a child through to Uni) however I did not find these comfy after about 1hr of wearing. ( I have worn Bose QC35's all day and my current Sony WH7000's and experienced no discomfort.I also found these Krakens slightly heavy to wear and less stable as I moved my head.The cups themselves are good and I found despite prolonged wear they did not get too hot.So will I be sticking with these as my primary headset....no these are fantastic looking with some great features around the mic, light, and noice cancellation. The audiois very good but from a comfort feature I m happy to take them off whereas I have some headsets I forget I am even wearing them.
