Great stapler, though as yet I've not tried it's tacking ability. I have had a different heavy duty 'Rapid' stapler for the past 25+ years at home and have not a single problem with it. But needing a stapler for a task elsewhere, I had first bought a cheaper staple gun and found it to about at useful as a pair of holed wellies. I should have gone with what I knew and got another 'Rapid' - The R83's main body is of tough plastic but don't let that put you off; the upper handle is steel. Being a bottom loader, makes for easy refilling, without wondering if the slider will close, as is the case with a rear refill stapler. The small gap/window is a neat way to check if there's still staples left to use,though you can't tell how many are left. But again, being a bottom loader, this is easy to check; simply flip the gun over and draw back the slider, (the R83's slider is lightly spring-loaded. So once you've pinched the slider's rear, it opens itself.) The small protuberance below the finger & thumb grip, switches the gun between 'normal & max' setting. Normal is fine for driving into pine, plaster, ply and the like. In use it requires little effort to fire the gun and the plastic body makes it a joy to use in cold weather. Staples I regularly use, are 'Piranha by B&D' and 'Arrow', both of which the R83 drives without error. My only niggle, is that when not in use, the steel handle sticks up. There is no factory fitted way to lock it into a closed position. But this is a minor issue and doesn't detract from the stapler's operation or feel.
