I'm a keen DIY'er and I love tools. But I'm always a little wary of expressing an opinion until I've used something for real. I've never used a nailer before so I cannot compare with other models. This review is just my personal experience on a real job with this tool.On the morning my DeWalt nailer arrived, I had the perfect test for it : I was erecting a 12 metre long fence made from feather edge board. That's 96 boards at three nails per board = 288 nails. I bought Firmahold 50mm x 2.8mm galvanised nails (2 inches long if you prefer metric, like my missus). The boards were being nailed into 88mm deep treated softwood rails. The thick part of the feather edge that I'm nailing through is 11mm thick so a total wood thickness of 99mm.That's near enough four inches in old money.I charged up the battery and off I went. Here are the highlights:1. I set the power setting to the 50mm-70mm setting and the depth gauge to the shallowest possible. This set the depth of each nail perfectly, including through knots in either the feather edge board or the rail.2. One battery handled the entire job and required only a short re-charge after the job was done.3. I didn't have a single jam. Not one.4. Though the nailer is heavy, I didn't find it too tiring to use.In other words, an excellent first outing. My next job is erecting a home office in the garden. This will certainly test the nailer far more as I'll be needing longer nails and will need to be nailing for a much longer time.

This nailer is fantastic. I've never owned my own framing nailer and used to borrow mates popular brand gas nailers. They were always quick, but not problem free and I disliked the gas because of its cost and lacking reliability. I will be honest, as a Makita fan I was surprised how loose the batteries sit and how 'plasticity' they feel when you slot them in, as opposed to the Makita, which gives a positive slide and strong grip on the battery. This is only minor and I am probably being picky. The gun is heavier than the alternatives, but feels comfortable, and certainly offers a much cheaper to run solution than the gas. I have run the nailer in and find it comfortably shoots 90mm paper tapes into hardwood and buries them flush. The batteries usually last a day of light use, and they will reach about 3/4 of the day with repeated heavy use, such as framing. The depth adjustment is a brilliant part, without having to mess around with tools. This is a solid, high performance nailer and is great for all sorts of jobs. Well worth the investment, Would recommend!

Please ignore the negatives .I have owned a gas nailers before this one but this is a good alternative and cheaper nails .!No gasI first made the mistake of using the gun on 50 -70 mm setting for first job nails stuck out etc cut out on knots . then realised there is two settings but the switch is obscured by the belt hook .( should of read the instructions ) switched it to 70 -90 mm and it is working a dream !! Maybe the others made this mistake . Also you can adjust the height setting for nail depth like the gas nailers .yes it is heavier but helps to give weight for impact when using low down fixing over head just use a bit of pressure Works well with 90 mm Firmahold nails .As far as battery life the 5 AH batteries are fine after three or so stud walls they still show full on high impact setting . Maybe if you had another guy cutting as you fix just tell him to get a gun and join in ! Oh and another negative I read " they don't work well in the wet " well probably don't need to explain the obviousWould highly recommend .

I have hankered after a nail gun for years but couldn’t justify the expenditure, that is until a fence needed urgent repairs.Listed as a framer/first fix gun, it’s been very useful, I use 50mm nails on lowest power setting and they absolutely blast into the 2x2 frames, through the feather board. I’m using a cheaper universal 34deg nail and not had any mis-feeds at all. The gun is the same high build quality as all my XR kit, very robust and feels good to hold and use. The auto lockout at approx 7 or less nails could be confusing but I read the manual and all was clearly explained. Although a big and heavy beast, the balance is good and it is comfortable to use at all angles and attitudes. The two fire modes are useful but the single fire mode can be frustrating as you have to commence each cycle with trigger released, which if you miss time it causes the gun not to spool up, so I recommend the multi fire mode. I shall register online with DeWalt, for their extended warranty.Read full review...

Works okay but leaves a few nails proud every now and then (I'm using 70mm and 90mm ring shank nails), apparently these nail guns need to be run in a bit before they reach there peak, they start to get better after about 1000 nails have been put through them, I'm using a 4.0 ah battery that I've had for a while, maybe it's not got the power it had from new, I'll be getting a 5.0ah battery soon so I'll report back with any change in results.Very late update: 28/10/20I didn't realise when I first got it but the switch for the 'bump' mode was really stiff so I asked for a replacment which the agreed to, but once I sent it back they told me they had run out of stock and just refunded me so that was the end of that.I did get another one (not from amazon)and that one was leaving nails proud as well so I returned it directly to Dewalt, they collected it, repaired it and returned it still with it's 1 year guarantee FREE of charge and it's been running sweet as a nut ever since.

I like the gun, good rate of fire, no gas or cleaning = greatUpdate :::: I had left a roof job for a few weeks and had some nailing to finish off and as I hadnt been using the gun for a few weeks I noticed a lot of nails were not finished home, peculiar as I had no issues previously, changed batteries and checked settings on the gun and still no difference. In fairness the wood had knots everywhere but I was not a happy camper. So I'm in between 2 tight rafters nailing a collar brace on and the gun is jammed in there. Nailed everyone home, why? the gun was held tight against the other rafter and couldn't recoil. Problem solved: If the gun isn't sinking your nails you need more forward force to stop the recoil from happening too early hence the nail not been sunk.Obviously it will struggle going into knots as you wouldn't drive a hammered nail or a screw into one anyway.

Very good gun. Just as good as a paslode. It will need to be repaired every so often. This gun is 3 years old. It's got a motor changed, 2 axis have been replaced, 2 sets of springs and a firing pin.Probably spent 400 euro repairing it over 3 years. It has shot over 103,000 nails. To put that in perspective, a paslode used 2 gas per 1100 nails. That means iv saved 950 euro on gas alone. That's the price the gun cost me and repairing it and I'm still saving money.Plus a paslode costs more to buy and and also need regular servicing. And if it was the new 360 paslode it would be over twice the price for the gas.All in all its a good gun. Dose the same as a paslode. If you keep it reasonably dry, keep oil well away from it and take a bit of care with it. The saving in the long term are well worth it.

4 stars as durability not known yet. This is what you would expect from dewalt. I have so far used it to erect fencing. The nails sink well and the head sits just below the surface. It is heavy and fells slightly off balance so your forearm does start to ache after a while. The battery lasts very well I finished the whole fence 25m with only 1 bar used on the battery indicator. It comes with a non marking nose guard although I don't see the point on this model as it is a first fix gun. I tried it out and it works but slips easily. My only criticism is its hard to line up the nose where the nail is ejected so my line was a bit wavy. This could just be due to me getting used to it or the weight.A mark on the nose will fix this. Overall I am impressed as usual with this nail gun.

De walt products are excellent. The 18v XR platform is brilliant. Used this nail gun for my fence. Used 50mm galvanised ring shanks. I did find that I needed to keep the nails loaded up otherwise when I was getting to the last four nails it would mis fire. So that is something to keep in mind when using the gun. Also note that the product is heavy so dont expect to be waving the thing about. user fatigue will eventually come into play. The clip system is very good and effective enabling it to hang from tool belt although you can definitely feel it pulling due to the weight. Saves so much time in comparison to screwing. But only use on applications where you dont want to take the wood your putting on off.Its hard work removing the nails as you probably know.

That said, mind was jamming as soon as I put a battery in it... spent half an hour trying to work out why, thought maybe it didn't support wire weld nails (after reading peoples horror stories). I watched a youtube video on how to clear obstructions/jams, and realised that the firing pin had fallen off its tracks; popped it back and everything worked a treat. Not sure if this should have been able to happen, but these boxes do get bounced around a lot before they get to us so I'm going to give Dewalt the benefit of the doubt. Seems to work perfect now, but I thought it was important to explain this here for others.

Just purchased my first nail gun to use on a large fencing project I’m working on and can’t praise this tool highly enough. They are a bit clumsy and heavy but the speed and accuracy when using this tool certainly out ways the weight and size issue. The nails seem quite expensive to purchase as you need to buy large amounts at a time but the ease of use and the finish you get is second to none.So bye bye hammer and nails forever!!If anyone reading this review is thinking of buying one of these guns just do it as like me you’ll be more than pleased with your purchase and the quality finish they give.

The product itself is exceptional although I think 2 5ah batteries is too much, I am still using the same battery on 1 charge and still has 3 lights after 4 days of use. I was disappointed however to find that it did not come in a Tstak box, when paying this much for 1 tool I would expect adequate protection for it to remain safe. In the description it says heavy duty carry case which I translated as Tstak box not the old flimsy box which has already cracked after less than a week on site.

Does the job well, bought this before i started my large shed project which saved me loads of time. I found that the gun can start to miss-fire when battery is starting to get low but battery lasted most of the day and having 2 batteries made this not a problem, also found if you didnt put on enough pressure it could miss-fire and you'd need to loosen the end part with an alan key as nail would jam inside but this was an easy fix. i recommend it to anyone

I love this machine , It is heavy duty without a doubt I tested it to abuse and it survived .Its kinda heavy come 3 pm and can miss fire if your light on your placment , so make sure you hold a tight grip.I fired out over 4k 90mm ring nails from opening the box.I can not recommend enough.Tip : when you get a lockout, remove battery, click lockout switch over , tap stuck loading pin with a spair nail, it instantly shoots back saving time over the day

So I thought I'd buy this dewalt nail gun as I've used paslode nail guns before and didn't like the fact the gas kept blocking/jamming etc etc and they cost a bomb! I've just used this gun for an 90ft feather edge fence and it's fantastic. 2200 box of nails are much cheaper because you don't need to buy the gas and I had no jamming what's so ever. It's got the power to drive to drive 90mm nails with ease as well.
