First, the elephant in the room: Sword and Shield feature less than half of the 1000 Pokemon who have joined the franchise since Red and Blue. This will always be disappointing, especially because the rest of these games is so wonderful I wish I could share that world with all my favourites. It's unfortunate, and I disagree with it (and the reasons given for it), but please do not let it stop you from enjoying these newest instalments. The world is wonderful to explore, the story actually interesting, and the cast of supporting characters along the way far more charming than they have any right to be. Battling is great fun,the new stadiums make for amazing arenas and the ability to Dynamax your Pokemon adds an interesting extra layer of strategy as well as spectacle. The new Wild Area is a particular joy - an open space of wild Pokemon of all levels where you can explore and camp to your heart's content (the new curry making system is a favourite of mine!)It's not the most graphically spectacular game you'll ever see, if you're a long-time player there are Pokemon you will miss seeing around, but ultimately these are games worth playing, and they bring a little cheer and whimsy into a cold November. The main story took me about 22 hours (and I know I rushed it), with the epilogue that went up to 26, and there's still a lot of exploring, raising, and battling to do (and I will be going back).

I loved Pokemon since I was a kid and played all handheld versions. Pokemon Shield looks fantastic on the Switch. Galar is beautiful and I love how each town is different and unique. Love the background music and really enjoy the 'open world' aspect of the game. As with any Pokemon game, it's all about levelling, battling, breeding and trading all which you can do.Some things are a bit limited for me, I actually can't stand the whole Dynamax thing I find that a gimmick and actually annoys me. I find the limitation of trading rather frustrating. Don't get me wrong, I love the surprise trade but they didn't have to remove GTS. Also,I really like seeing the Pokemon walking in the bush and around. What I don't like is how lazy Game Freak are with the crappy Pokemon animation and sounds taken from older games. The amount of money fans spend on this franchise, you would expect Game Freak to add some quality. But no. Some textures are awful, radio static for Pokemon cries and not even bothering to add some real voice acting! It's a Switch game! Made for the console! They could have tried to listen to their fans.Anyway, overall I would give this game an 7.5/10.

Wow, what a fantastic addition to the main pokemon games.Highly recommend for any pokemon fan, a game designed to be enjoyed by newbies and veterans.A world which can freely explored, beautiful graphics which captures an obvious portrayal of Great Britain.New Pokèmon are featured in this release, generation 8, featuring a large roster of insightful characters, as well as galarian versions of original characters.Although, all games come with their flaws...Unfortunately there is not a full national pokedex, which I understand would dissapoint some Pokè veterans. The game also aims more towards younger children, with a very tutorial heavy beginning, not as much freedom throughout the game as I hoped for,and very easy fights. There was some connection problems when the game was first released but I assume this was just necause the serverd were a bit overwhelmed. This does not seem to be a problem anymore.Despite this, I have really enjoyed this game and look forward fo future releases and coming back to complete this game again at some point.Highly recommend.

Completed 4-5 gyms challenges so far. I was very sceptical about the Dynamaxing but it is actually visually brilliant and exciting (if not much of a gameplay/tactical necessity to a veteran Pokémon trainer). The graphics, controls, areas, designs, Pokémon themselves, animations are all staggeringly beautiful and such a distance from my first experiences with Pokémon Yellow 20+ years ago (still love the originals too though!).The only critique I have is that the team XP sharing makes the game quite easy for a veteran Pokémon trainer like myself. It would have been good to be able to switch that feature off possibly (although I love that the battling Pokémon gets experience for helping capturePokémon which makes sense and is about time!)The story so far is quite understated and has taken a bit of a backseat which is not a problem provided it heats up later. I'm loving the gym challenges before the main battle too!

Great Pokemon experience on the switch! Pokemon has never been about the graphics or animations...personally I think they’re really nice, Pokemon on the overworld are great and all have their own personalities. I mean watch the trailers and judge for yourself if it’s an issue or not.I understand the dex cut issue and it’s a valid point - but for me I like to catch a team of the new Pokemon so I didn’t even notice who’s missing. I’ve got to say some of the new designs are some of my favourites of the franchise!Story does take a back seat as focus is on exploration especially with the wild area and raids - which feels like a big step for Pokemon after sun and moons restrictive gameplay.Raids are really fun, not as exciting as Megas but probably more streamlined. I’d of liked more lore and time with the characters but it feels like a soft reboot back to the simple approach of red and blue. Overall really enjoyable!

Best Pokemon game in a long time, an insane amount of quality of life improvements really help remove alot of the tedious backtracking of previous Pokemon titles, obviously backtracking is still an option it's just not mandatory anymore which is lovely, the world is massive and filled to the brim with Pokemon roaming around, it's the closest we've ever been to a perfect Pokemon game, once the likes of GTS and the National Dex's return we'll have a perfect game, however up until that point this is one of my favorite Pokemon games to date, don't let these Minor issues that've been blown way out of proportion stop you from experiencing what is the most enjoyable Pokemon game in a long time, which coming from someone who's played every game since Pokemon Yellow means a lot, I've been with this franchise for a long time and these games are phenomenal.

What can I say? I loved it. It's been a while since I've played Pokemon. Now having it on a home console and on the big screen was an incredible experience! As for the game itself, I have to say that I got through it quite quickly as I genuinely just couldn't stop playing! I was at work and couldn't wait to get home to continue where I left off. People complain about how it doesn't have the complete pokedex. For me, I wasnt really bothered by that. Theres enough pokemon there! It's old fashioned pokemon and that's all I wanted and that was my expectation met. I'll be honest and say that the story itself isn't 10 out of 10... but if you're looking for old fashioned pokemon it's a perfect pokemon game.It is still %100 enjoyable as it always has been. You cant go wrong.

So far really enjoying it. I've played every main title so far, since getting Pokémon blue when I was 7. So far I'm entertained and enjoying the experience.A lot of controversy about the games but I've not had any issues, graphics look fine to me, I'd prefer to have the full Pokédex but there are plenty of Pokémon so I'm not going to spit my dumby out. It would be nice to have the option to turn the exp share off but again, for me it's not a big deal and is something that could be added with a update. If you enjoy the general Pokémon experience I think you'll enjoy this. If you get very hot and bothered over fictional characters and have an unreasonable level of expectation (see toxic star wars fans as an example) just take a deep breath and walk away.

Looks great and the different areas felt really cool. I like how there is more to do AFTER the main boss, plus expansions to come. However, due to it being properly animated and 3D, dialogue can take AGES while an action is happening, and there is SO much of it that the game feels very slow, especially at the start. Also, none if it felt like a challenge. None of the gym leaders have a full team, most have 3 pokemon. Also, I one-shotted all the main boss's (Leon) pokemon in the main battle, as did I all the other gym leaders, so none of it felt like a challenge. Previous games' Elite Four were always a challenge: needing to buy hundreds of Full Restores and Revives before starting, with each battle being tough. This game was just a walk-over.

Hours of playtime if you want to 100% however if you want to get to 100% on this game you will have to spend a lot of time grinding as with all pokemon games.I found this game to be a revival of what can make pokemon good that was lost in Sun and Moon on the 3DS, this is as the game returns to its roots but makes new advancements in how you can play the game and why you play the game with the raids and only feature.Although I have found the story to be a bit too quick and lacking in most part to the rival gang being a gym leader at one stage I am very much looking forward to the DLC that is due to be released for this game.Overall I would recommend this game to anyone who is looking to make afine addition to their switch game library.

Overall decent game, certainly not the worst in the core series but it's not the best. The setting is great, so are a lot of the new Pokémon and the raid battles/dynamax feature. The wild area is massive and lots of fun to explore, you can even see other players if connected to the internet. Character customisation is the best it's ever been in any main series Pokémon game.Unfortunately a lot of older Pokémon were removed from these games along with the GTS feature that's been in the games since Diamond/Pearl. Not much of a post-game either. Still no battle frontier.Wanted a new eeveelution... Didn't get one.Still got my Sylveon though.Definitely give these games a try.

About 10 hours in so far and an enjoyable game. The graphics look good whether on handheld or on the TV.It is great to have a proper pokemon game on switch after the in-between titles (Let's go Eevee and Pikachu) last year. The only negative I can think of so far is that you are told where to go, whereas in past games you had to wander about and find it for yourself. But that isn't enough to ruin the game for me.You also cannot get every pokemon from past games but this is understandable due to the sheer amount now. It's also fun to discover the new pokemon rather than being tempted to stick to your old faves

While doing our government regulated hours exercise, my kids and I have rekindled our love for Pokemon Go so my daughter has developed a new love for the adorable little critters. Bought this as I remember sinking hours into Red and Blue back in the day and wanted to introduce her to a "proper" Pokemon game and it's definitely done the trick, it's a brilliant game and we love the fact you can actually see the Pokemon I the world so you know exactly which ones to hunt for. Only problem I have now is stopping myself from playing while she's in bed! Highly recommended for parents of Pokemon mad young ones

I love this game, but it lacks in the technical department. The graphics are seriously lacking when it comes to the environment and the online multiplayer aspect which keeps this game fresh is poorly executed. I had to add a bunch of random people to my friends list to even try and find anyone to match up with and it still only works a fraction of the times I try.I really hope Gamefreak fixes this eventually.Otherwise, it's the one and only proper Pokémon game for the Switch and really delivers. The gameplay improvements were needed and could ve expanded upon. I hope this is only the first step.

The delivery was quick and on time. The game is amazing. If you are a fan of pokemon games it still has that atmosphere of adventure and you get rewarded for various things not just battling. Its quite simple to follow but has challenges of being able to battle pokemon way higher level early on. On the negative side is not being able to catch pokemon at certain levels if you haven't done the gyms. But it's still awesome. Really happy with it. And feels great being able to play it on the TV.Also has an awesome gym fighting stages it just feels like you are on a show. :)
