I'm really impressed by these Pioneer Rayz. They're a good quality set of in-ear earphones with some cool new features that I've never seen on a pair of earphones before. The significant thing is that they connect via the Lightning socket on your Apple device (I'm using an iPhone SE) rather than the old-fashioned 3.5mm aux / head headphone socket. When combined with the free to download app this means you can do lots of additional cool things with them. It might be worth pointing out that there is also another model called Rayz Plus that has a Lightning port on the lead so that you can charge your phone and use the earphones at the same time. With this standard pair of Rayz you’ll need to unplug the earphones to charge your phone. So what sort of extra stuff do they do? There's active noise-cancelling that adapts to your environment (which works very well against low rumbling sounds like engine noise). Autopause that temporarily pauses music when you take the earphones out and starts again when you put them in (I thought this was so clever!) Smart mute that cuts out the mic during hands-free calls when you're not talking (handy if you're calling from a noisy place). HearThru mode that allows you to hear more of the ambient noise around you (useful if you need to stay aware of your surroundings). There's also a 5 band graphic equaliser within the app which I enjoyed playing around with to tweak the sound to my own personal preference. On the in-line control there's a Smart Button which enables you to use shortcuts to turn on and off certain features (eg. a single tap for noise-cancelling, a double tap for HearThu etc..). When I first set up the Rayz Earphones they required a short firmware update. It took a a couple of minutes, but it's nice to know that the firmware is clearly being refined and updated. The sound quality is really good. I found myself trying the different sets of earbuds that came supplied (from XS-XXL) before finally settling on L (it makes a difference). I also noticed that the sound quality sounds richer and fuller when the Noise Cancelling is turned on, so I tend to leave it on all the time. Overall the sound is quite bass heavy as standard, but if that isn't to your tastes you can turn it down using the equaliser in the app. It might seem obvious but you do need to make sure you put the earphones in the correct ears to hear the best sound and get the best comfort. The ear pieces are clearly angled to be worn in certain ears, even though the L and R earpieces are less clearly marked. The Rayz don't require a separate battery but I didn't find that they adversely affected the battery life of my phone - although logic dictates that they must affect it a little. There's a lot going on with these headphones and I'm personally really pleased with them. They're light and comfortable and the extra features actually work well. For the current price of around a hundred pounds, I think they represent very good value. I’ve certainly paid similar money for earphones in the past that don’t sound any better and have nowhere near as many features. Since I’ve had these Pioneer Rayz I’ve started using my iPhone for music a lot more than I used to, simply because I like them so much.

These are the first set of Lightning earphones I've used and on the whole, i'm impressed. They are a bit cheap and plastic with a normal rubberised cable which unfortunately are a bit bent from being in the box and don't straighten out easily. You can just plug them in and use them without downloading the app and they work fine like that, but you can't access some of the features such as the equaliser for example. When you plug them in and hold the bottom button they switch on and 'calibrate' to your ear shape for the noise cancelling. The noise cancelling is pretty effective. Don't get me wrong, you can still hear stuff around you, but the noise is reduced quite a bit.The drone on a train is reduced and allows you to focus on the music.Which brings me onto the sound quality. I was impressed. They produce a really detailed, airy sound stage, much better than my 'old school' normal Atomic Floyd earphones which were a similar price. There was too much bass though, but this can be turned down using the equaliser (once you install the app). You can turn the noise cancelling off too is you wish. When you take the phones out of your ear it auto-pauses the music which is good and if you use them for calls, it will mute your mic when you're not talking which was useful, but the sound quality that others hear when i'm talking was not too good apparently, it sounded a bit weak and not very clear. They don't need to be charged though which is a bonus, the use the power from your iPhone/iPad, and they really don't drain the battery too much either, I didn't really notice any difference in my battery when using them to be fair. So, there are a few negatives, they do feel and look a bit cheap and call quality through the mic is not great, but the sound when used for music is great and the noise cancelling is a really useful feature. They do not come with a case either which was a bit of a shame.

I do have a bit of a fetish for headphones and in-earphones so have quite a growing collection. These Pioneer Rayz tick all the boxes for me - they sound wonderful and are incredibly comfortable to wear and have adaptive/smart noise-cancelling. They are lightning connector only, so you will need an iPhone 7 or higher or an iPad with a lightning connector. There is also a second lightning port in the cable so these can be charged at the same time as listening - handy to have. The cable is of a decent length and made of a nice rubber and the in-line remote is easy to use. If you install the companion app (free download)you can configure a variety of settings including the ability to access "Hey Siri" commands and a great Autopause feature that automatically pauses the track if you remove both buds... clever! Whenever I review headphones I always encourage potential buyers to actually try headsets in store with your own music - to see if they fit and if they live up to the quality of your music collection. If these could be improved, I would like to see a hard case included for storage for in your bag or backpack. I think they represent excellent value for money at around the one hundred and twenty pounds mark, currently. If you don't have a lightning connector device I would recommend you take a look at the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H5 Bluetooth in-earphones - these are a step up in quality from the Rayz both sonically and in terms of construction but work with any bluetooth equipped phone or other device, plus they are the epitome of style.

These earphones are high tech. The sound quality is excellent. I have tried them with a wide variety of music and they sound really good for all of them. The ear plugs are very comfortable and secure. There is a vast variety of bud sizes and options so that you can get a pair that is perfect for you. There are various extras built in. The hard ware provides an additional lightening slot so that you can charge your phone while the headphones remain plugged into the lightening port on the phone. It has a control panel on the cord which provides the usual options and a smart button that you can set to a variety of functions. There is a free app to work in tandem with the headphones, this allows for a number of software options. There is an autopause function so if you take out both earphones, the music stops automatically and then restarts when you put them back in. There is smart noise cancelling - the headphones calibrate to your environment to be more effective. There is a hear-thru mode, so you can keep the headphones in but still hear what is going on around you, perfect for crossing roads. There is a smart mute function, so when you are using the headphones for a phone call, when you stop talking your are automatically muted so that the other person in the call doesn't get your background noise. It is even tied in so that Hey Siri will be picked up through the headphones.Overall a very impressive pair of headphones.

For in ear headphones, the preference has certainly been against them for the last couple of years. These, from well known hi-fi maker Pioneer try to differentiate themselves with a number of “smart” features as well as good sound. Would they however end up being a clever choice? When it comes to having basic headphones the answer is broadly yes. There is good sound quality (though perhaps too strong on the treble and not enough bass), nice length of cable and good fit into ears even when moving around thanks to 6 different sizes of earphone tip. Not only do they have a sleek and stylish design but most of the background noise is successfully blocked out. A decent but if not exceptional pair of cans. Now for the smart features, you have to download an app which is a bit of a pain but not too bad itself with the actual app being easy and intuitive to use. The auto pause feature works as described to pause music when you take both out from your ears once you’ve turned it on in the app. The HearThru feature on the other hand works less well – it’s supposed to allow you to hear select things but actually turns into more background noise than what you want.Overall therefore, these are a good pair of headphones with a few advanced features added in. While they won’t work with a number of phones thanks to the connector included, for those they do then they do so well and would encourage me to recommend them.

The earbuds themselves seem very well made, they fit really well and they are comfortable, for any adjustment they are supplied with 6 pairs of silicone ear tips ranging from XS – XXL. The sound quality is excellent, certainly no complains on that front. Some of the features are great but take some getting used to, for example the auto mute is really good as I take lots of conference calls where I have to mute myself because there can be 10+ people on the call, the built in feature is great but you have to train your brain that the earphones do it for you and you don’t have to press anything. I also really like the auto pause feature, there are occasions when you take out one earpiece to engage in conversation, the fact that this pauses is great because you don’t have the other earpiece playing away mid conversation and you don’t miss any of your music.I’ve found these RAYZ ideal for business, I had been using my wireless beats for my London visits which are a little large and don’t look right when I’m in smart business attire, these are much more discrete and the functionality makes them suited to my needs. I didn’t think there would be a time when I would have different sets of earphones for different things, but that day has arrived and I wouldn’t be without these. At just shy of £100 I do feel that these offer value for money, I’d be happy to recommend them.

These are excellent headphones that come with a ton of features that are built in to the Rayz App that you download free from the iOS App Store. The headphones have a tiny chip in the little headphone controls that are the only headphone that take advantage of Apples latest 2nd generation lightening audio technology. The free Rayz app features includes smart noise cancelling, an equaliser, hear through technology, auto pause, smart button, voice prompts, smart mute, eco mode. You can launch the Rayz control App from the little controller on your headphone cable and completely customise your earphones settings and smart buttons plus new software updates will give add even more features to come.Theyare very comfortable to wear and cleverly adapts to your surrounds to give excellent noise cancelling. The earphones auto pause is a great feature which pauses your music when you take them out your ears and resume when you put them back in. You can launch Siri from the controller button on the cable too.Take a look at the Rayz Plus version for a few pounds more which are currently the only lightening earphones that allow you to charge from within the cable. Very cool and useful. No batteries are required for these headphones. The headphones are powered from your phone but have very low power consumption, lower than any other lightening headset.Highly recommended.

These earphones are excellent. Earphones are just earphones right? Well not in this case. First of all these are specifically designed for iPhones without a 3.5mm headphone socket. For me the supplied earbuds fit well and are very comfortable and the sound quality is excellent. Music sounds crisp and clear. I also listen to a lot of audio books and these are great for that. But what sets these apart for me is that Pioneer have built upon an excellent set of earphones with some really neat innovations. First there is a pass through charging cable enabling the phone to be charged while the earphones are in use. But the accompanying app adds a lot more. Good noise cancelling is part of the package. But the earphones "know" when they have been taken out of the ears and pause. There is also a "pass thru" mode which means that external sounds can get through even when they are in use. This is great for me when I am walking the dog as I can hear any traffic (I live in a very rural spot so there is very little traffic - and I can hear anything which is approaching well in advance). At first glance I thought these were rather pricey but the extras make them good value.

The Pioneer Rayz Earbuds Earphones - Onyx are very good, feature packed earphones. After downloading the free app, you can calibrate the earphones and set noise-cancelling. The noise cancelling is impressive. It cuts out a lot of the background noise, so you can concentrate on the music. So beware if using these on your commute, as you may not hear train announcements. Noise-cancelling can be turned on or off in the Rayz app.The sound of the Pioneer Rayz is impressive. They are not as bass-heavy as a lot of earbuds I have used. They are very comfortable and come with 5 different sized buds plus the ones already in situ.Another really useful feature (again, available via the app)is that if you take both earphones out of your ear, after a few seconds your music will pause, and resume playing when both earphones are back in. This is a really useful feature.Volume and pause is available via the inline controls.I can recommend these Pioneer Rayz earphones. They are excellent quality, with impressive noise-cancelling, great sound and fitting plus several useful features that are controlled via the well-designed and easy to use app

After buying a copy pair of Airpods for £30, which were OK, they finally failed after 12 months. I was looking at the upgraded ones which were £45 and the apple ones for £125. Blue tooth is handy but it' just something else I have to charge, and they always seem to run out half way through a dog walk. So I started looking and these had good reviews, thinking I'd get a better sound quality from Pioneer then copy airpods and I was right. The sound is excellent! I have done a side by side test with the apple wired headphones and there's no comparison. The fit is also excellent to, no problem with them falling out. There's plenty of different sizes in the box but I stuck with the ones it came with.I find that the noise cancelling works very well to. To sum up, if you want a good pair of earbuds, go with a quality wired set rather than unknown bluetooth make and you won't be disappointed. In fact just get these. If you look on the Pioneer web site, these are $149 so at under £50, you can't go wrong. The app is great to for fine tuning. Also, I like the way they pause whatever your listening to when you take them out your ears.

This is a superb set of Earbuds. I have been very impressed by them over the past few weeks. And because they plug into my iPhone 7 without the need of an adapter, I find I am listening more to my iPhone (radio, music, etc). And because it uses the Lightening socket a lot more features are available; downloading and using the Rayz App is essential, and it has a good Equaliser to adapt your listening. There are lots of features, and more will be added with updates.I've used them quite a bit whilst flying (as a passenger!), and they really work well in cutting out the background engine noise -- so the noice cancelling is very good. The other features described in the description above are all terrific: I really like the pause feature when both earbuds are removed from your ears.Out of the box and first use required a small, quick firmware upgrade; easily and automatically done. These are really nice, with lots of features, and the sound is very good. I have listened to lots of Classical Music with these, and I have appreciated the quality. Well done to Pioneer for these.

I first tried out these earphones in Japan (they have hundreds on display to play with) and instantly fell in love with them because of their deep clear and natural sound. I then ordered Rayz on Amazon on my return to the UK. When I first used my new earphones, clearly something was wrong, the sound was not what I expected. I then installed the Rayz app and updated the firmware as the manual advised - and bingo! The sound changed from lazy to lively and amazing, much louder and deeper. The app also allows configuring the buttons and calibrate noise cancellation to the environment you are in. This really works, I calibrated with my TV on and it perfectly cancelled out the TV sound thereafter.I believe people who scored this product low just need to follow the manual and update the firmware. Out of the box it sounds rather disappointingly indeed.

I can‘t give them full stars simply cause they are in ear headphones and the noise canceling is depending how well they sit in your ears. In all fairness i have to say, that they still are my absolute favourite headphones at the moment! I barely use my good old Bose QC-15 except for flights,...My summary is so far i am very impressed with the manufacturing quality of those headphones. The sound is pretty good but they could do with slightly more Base and maybe a finer EQ adjustment. Besides those little things i would consider them awesome especially because they cost significantly less than anything comparable!I would 100% buy them again!Great for everyday use specially the „ear thru“ function.

I really like these Rayz earphones which exceeded expectations. Previously I was using/losing/having to buy replacement Apple adaptors to plug regular earphones into my iPhone so bit the bullet and got these lightning powered ones. The sound quality is excellent as is the noise cancelling which is powered from the phone. I prefer these over the Bose in- ear noise cancelling ones where I didn't rate the sound quality (plus Bose cost twice as much and aren't lightning powered but use a rechargeable built in battery you have to charge) They come in a nice packaged box and are clearly high quality as you would expect from Pioneer. I will prob get a second pair at some point for the gym bag..

I was initially disappointed with these, to the extent I was going to return them. However, on reading some reviews here, I found that there is an app that needs to be used to download the latest software and to configure the headphones. Having downloaded the app ('Pioneer Rayz' on the iPhone App Store), updated the software and configured them, the difference was astounding.I'm not impressed with the noise cancelling (but have never found noise cancelling earbuds that are effective), but other than that these are extremely robust and the sound is very good.
