NOTE: HARDWARE REQUIRED FOR VOICE CONTROL.Knocked a star off these excellent bulbs as I did in my review of the candle version (which I've just had to edit, as both types are grouped together for reviews) due to misleading product information. It's not legally actionable or anything - if you read through really carefully you can find out, but the 'works with Google Assistant' legend displayed prominently in the product description and the box SUGGESTS you could just tell your phone to turn them down or off, and you can't unless you've got a separate Google Home device (Nest, speaker or whatever) same goes for Alexa - you'll need an echo device to voice control. The product description says: "What's required?Nothing!" which is disingenuous at best..As I mentioned in my review of the SES version of these bulbs, nowhere is it noted that you NEED A PHONE RUNNING ANDROID 7+ to even download the Hue Bluetooth app (I'm not sure about IOS requirements for iPhone) and again, people could buy these assuming from the glib description that they'll work with any Android phone, so please bear the above in mind before purchase. So provided you are running Android 7 and above (in your phone settings go to 'about device' to check) you've got bulbs you can dim using sliders or presets (no colour-changing option on these, they're just white). In the video accompanying this review I've used the 'night light' preset to show them working - I dunno whether you can hear my vague mutterings in the vid, but there was no chance of me recording with one hand whilst operating a slider with the other, and the main lights are on because otherwise you'd get a sudden blackout which wouldn't have been very illuminating ?In summary, these are great PROVIDED you're aware of all the above and don't assume that what's required is 'Nothing!'..

These candle bulbs from Hue are another great set of bulbs from the Hue lineup - they work flawlessly and the shape gives more flexibility to the whole line.Hue lights are a major part of our smart home - we currently have 9 Hue bulbs around the house, but have always left a couple of our uplighters with regular bulbs as the standard Hue bulbs, with their blunt shape, don't look very good in them and tend to stick out the top. These new candle bulbs fill this gap perfectly, and integrated easily into the rest of the setup. They look great in the lamps and as we've only had regular white bulbs in there up until now, we don't need the colours. The Hue ecosystem is the best on the market for Smart bulbs, the app is excellent and the variety of different lights you can add is growing every month. It may be expensive to start with, but once you've got the beginnings of a setup you can see whee the value lies in opting for an established and reputable brand. The integration with Google Home is what brings this home for me - I control the lights with my voice 70% of the time, and it always works flawlessly and quickly. We also have several Hue switches, and these work perfectly also. The shades of white provided by these bulbs is broad and the brightness settings takes them down from a very soft glow up to a room filling light in seconds. All in all an excellent edition of the Hue bulbs - great for more visible lights where you don't need the colours - highly recommended.

I've bought a couple of smart bulbs on Amazon before - all Chinese brands or something. They all connected fine to my Virgin Media WiFi network, but it was quite a palaver as the setup process for those bulbs often involved turning the bulb on and off for a number of times, having to count the number of seconds they were on and off, using the app to try and search for the bulbs on the network. By the time all that's done, it took about 10 minutes. This Philips smart bulb however, is the most user-friendly and easiest to setup. All I had to do was download the Philips Hue Bluetooth app on Google Play, install it, and load the app on my phone. Within seconds, it found my bulb on the network and connected straight away.None of that turning the bulb on and off several times, counting the number of seconds, waiting for the app to find the bulb, which often took minutes. So these Philips bulbs get a vote of 5 stars for me.I think I'm just going to stick with them for plain coloured bulbs from now on, for light fittings at home that don't require changing light colours. For my kids, who prefer colour-changing lights, I bought them some Chinese brand smart bulbs - more troublesome to set up, but works in the end..

This is a really good bulb for my desktop lamp. It is the smaller screw fitting so wouldn't fit my main light sockets. The bulb was really easy to set up and I didn't use the instructions that came in the box, I used the Alexa app on my phone instead. It was a very simple process. There are several instructions for various devices. The bulb is nice and gives good light, ideal for my reading nook. The bulb is basic and has a simple on or off feature. Once the bulb is fitted and linked, the lamp is left switched on and then I use my Alexa to turn it on and off.The bulb doesn't get hot, this is good because I tend to grab the lamp head to adjust the angle of the light. No hot fingers for me from now on.Phillips is a brand I trust and having looked at similar products the price seems to be around the same amount as other bulbs. Because this bulb is being used for reading I don't need any different effects like colour changing, so it makes this bulb perfect for me. It is basic and does it's job.Overall I am very happy with this two pack of bulbs, easy to link to Alexa and good quality.

I've covered a few of the hue devices in my reviews. There's three basic types, 'white', 'white ambience' and 'white and colour ambience'. If it has a slightly different name it will be an older or newer version of one of these. All the bulbs 'dim' and there's some helpful presets in the Hue app like nightlight, etc. It's handy if you have a light in a child's room that you want to turn off at a set time, or turn off remotely. This is the simplest of the Hue bulbs and you could get away with the bluetooth only option with these. You can also purchase a dimming lightswitch for about 15 pounds. How do they compare to the wi-fi based or zigbee based competitors? When it's just a pure straightforward warm wight,it doesn't really matter what brand you choose as long as the control and connection is easy and reliable. Once you're paying under £10.01 a bulb, these are worth a look. Otherwise look elsewhere or go higher up in the hue range for the flagship results.

So I firstly went for the no branded multicoloured wifi bulbs. After 3.5 hours of trying to set them up, I sent them back and gave up. Then I saw these and thought I'd try a couple. And now I have 10 of them. Important things to know, these are white only. They won't change colour and they won't change temperature. They seem to have about 10 brightness settings 10%-100% (and off of course). Also worth noting, these are Bluetooth, not wifi. So they don't have to be close to your router and when your internet or wifi goes down, you can still turn your lights on.To install, you just screw the bulb in, I didn't use the Philips app, I just added a light through the Alexa app.It found it in about 7 seconds and paired straight away. I grouped the lights in the app based on room so I can just say eg "Alexa, turn the landing light off".Overall, a bit pricey and I can't comment on longevity yet. But worth buying over the no brands for a hassle free installation.

We've been using Philips Hue since they first came out—I had a set for my birthday years ago. The hubs have been upgraded, and the software has also been 'improved' (I'm still using the original iPhone app, which I think is much better). Basically, they just work, and they keep on working. Our original lights are still doing great.Hue is expensive—it really is, and we'ver tried some other solutions, including bluetooth lights (too many separate apps, drains too much iPhone battery) and Ikea's dimmable, hubbable alternative to Hue. Sadly, although the Ikea ones are fine, and much cheaper, one of them already started failing after six months, and all of them have to be periodically reinstalled.Although they are the most expensive, Hue is the only 'fit and forget' we've found. It's nice they are now available in candle format, as that was the one format we weren't able to get, which pushed us on to Ikea.

Philips started making smart lighting long before most of its competitors. This is reflected in the quality and multi-compatibility of the Hue range. These dimmable white bulbs have an E14 screw fitting. Built-in bluetooth means they can be controlled from a mobile device using the Hue Bluetooth app. They're also compatible with Apple Watch, IFTTT, SmartThings, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and many other apps and platforms. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa allow users to control the lights with their voice (even without Philips Hue Bridge). The Hue Bridge (which doesn't come with these bulbs) opens up a host of other functionality such as creating timed routines for the smart lights. It also opens up voice functionality for Apple HomeKit and Microsoft Cortana.I reckon these are the best smart bulbs currently available. They're not cheap but they are versatile and have serious longevity.

Screw light bulbs, put these in our lamps and they work fine. We downloaded the free app and it was so simple to set up. The bulbs are nice and bright. Pleased with these overall as they work well and are super easy to set up. Even if your not really tech savvy. Some may see this as lazy rather than just getting up and manually switching lamps on/off but these are ideal for people like myself, with mobility problems who struggle to get around. This gives an added bit of independence without having to ask someone else to do it for you. All you need is a smart phone with bluetooth capability and your good to go.Can't comment on the voice control as we don't have access to that but overall they work well and I'm pleased.Thank you for reading my review and I hope this was helpful to you ?

Who knew we would live in a time where a computer that controlled our home music, time ect could also control the lighting through communicating with the light bulb?!!!! Its superb! If you have Alexa it is super easy to pair them up and have Alexa turn your lights on and off! Truly a brilliant addition to our home and we really enjoy these! Well worth the price, especially if you are piling into your home after a long day, in the dark with arms full of shopping to be put down...just tell Alexa and Voila, with these light bulbs you have instant light...no more fumbling in the dark for switches. Or you can even turn your lights on through Alexa when away from your home...even smarter!LOVE THIS!

I already have several other Hue and other smart home products. This is another good addition to the family, replacing the bulb in my bedside lamp which frees up the smart plug that it was plugged into for something else. Just as always, I had zero trouble setting up the bulb with both the Hue app and the Alexa app, and was able to control the bulb within mere minutes of opening. Although I don't use it as I have a hub, I also appreciate the fact that they have made it so the bulb can be controlled with Bluetooth if you just want a simple remote controlled light. Admittedly a slightly more premium price compared to other cheaper "smart" bulbs, but the quality can't be denied.

I bought this for my lovely desk lamp, so I could run it with Alexa. Works like a charm. I've had it for over a year, no problems. I have another smart lamp (non-PhilipsHue) which I pair this with, also works really well. It's a sturdy, well-built lightbulb, easy to use and control with both Alexa and the app and most importantly long-lasting.They are a bit on the pricier side, but I think they are worthwhile and I see it rather as a long term investment. If you can get them on sale it's a treat. Also I think it's slightly wider than a traditional candle style bulb.I'm planning to buy my own home soon so looking forward to changing all my bulbs to Hue.

I'm trying to get more into tech, and needed a new bulb for one of my table lamps, so I thught I'd get "with it" and try these.I have Alexa, and also downloaded the app, and they are simple to control using the app or by voice via Alexa. The lamps don't have a dimming feature, so it was nice to be able to add that via the bulbs. However I'm not convinced they are worth the priced (£22.99) for a pack of two - for me anyway. Maybe next time I will adventurous and get bulbs that not only dim but change colour. Paying this much for white bulbs, even with the app and the dimmer functions, seems a bit much. But - they are pricey, and I'm not

A dawdle. Bought for a lamp with light up base and top. Although with normal bulbs I could switch off the top bulb and just have the base on, I couldn’t have the top bulb on and the bottom one off, which I wanted the choice to do. This fixed that and also made the base bulb dimmable, which I wanted. Turned my fab double bulb lamp into a great rather than a good one. Unplugged lamp, put in bulb and asked Alexa to find it. Powered and dimmable via echo plus zigbee in the kitchen, but operated by the echo dot in the room. No need for a hue bridge or the Bluetooth app here. Fab. I do want more. Just wish they were cheaper.

We have quite a few smart devices and some bulbs at home designed to work with Alexa and Google Assistant. The Philips Hue White Smart Candle bulbs were easy to connect (through both Alexa and Google Assistant). The light output given out is around the equivalent of a 40 watt incandescent bulb. It was brighter than expected but the light is a warm yellow glow which is gentle. As for the price - £24.99 for two smart bulbs with bluetooth functionality does appear to be steep but I've had no trouble with Philips products at all with their smart enabled devices.
