Although our house is very much a “smart” home, I’m relatively late to the smart bulb party. I’m an immediate convert though.Over the last year I have slowly been changing as many of the bulbs in the house that I can. I have chose to go with the Philips Hue White Ambiance bulbs as they give the best combination of lighting options against cost that suit our requirements. Although there are a few benefits to the coloured bulbs, I see it more of a gimmick that you’ll quickly get bored of. Of all my lights, I have four that are coloured bulbs, but I couldn't tell you the last time I had them on anything other than white. I use the dimming function regularly, but not the colours. Plus,not only are they considerably more expensive than the Ambiance bulbs, some are also much bigger and don’t fit all light fittings quite so well, if at all.So, presently I have 10 GU10s, 4 B22, 4 E27 bulbs and 6 E14 bulbs dotted around the house plus some of the exterior Hue lights also. The elephant in the room with these bulbs is the cost. There’s no getting away from the fact that they are expensive, even if you manage to pick them up on a Lightning Deal. That said, you’re paying for much more than a way of lighting your room. Smart homes are only limited by your imagination, and you can implement some pretty funky routines through the Alexa app if you’re brave enough to delve deeply. Beyond the Hue bulbs I have 12 TP Link smart sockets controlling things like the lights on my two fish tanks, I have 7 Echo dots, 2 Sonos Ones, a Logitech Harmony, Nest thermostat and two Nest smoke detectors. My Denon amp is connected by its HEOS app, and I have a couple of LG TVs with Alexa built in plus another with a Fire HD stick. Five internal IP cameras and 8 external cameras plus my recent addition of a Ring door camera. If thought through, all of these can be interlinked. For example, should the smoke detectors or door bell go off, I can have the Hue light bulbs dim or light up. If a motion sensor is tripped on one of the IP cameras, I can have the Hue bulbs in the patio lights come on.Additionally, even without linking with other smart devices, the Philips Hue bulbs offer plenty of things on their own. The ability to gradually lower the light as the night goes on, and likewise gradually bring the light up as your morning routine begins. You can have lights come on as the daylight begins to fade, and set them to many different shades to suit your mood such as reading or night light, through Savanna sunset and white brilliance.You options are many and varied, and if you can look past the initial set-up costs, they can hugely enhance your home. I'd certainly fit them again if I had my time over.

Philips Hue lamps are, on the surface, quite an expensive thing to buy. However, as I thought this I remember buying ordinary replacement lamps when LED ones first started to roll out and they were considerably more costly for worse lighting quality and no 'smart' controls either.With that understanding I guess that despite the fairly stiff price these are not too bad.I have a number of Philips Hue lamps now and all have worked really, really well. No failures over the last couple of years and all - once set up - control without any hiccups or problems.The physical quality is evident and you do feel as if they are well made and made to last.I'd rather pay a bit more for longer lasting and properly working equipment to be honest and these do fit that bill.To set up simply fit them, add them on app and then set up as per normal Hue controls. Which isn't quite as straight forward as one would like to be honest. The Hue app of course works reliably and this is paramount, but honestly I do think it's a bit tortuous. There are better and more intuitive apps out that are paragons of simplicity whereas the Hue app does require a bit of learning.That being said, once you are set up it all works fine so my gripe is a minor one.In use these offer a pleasing level of light and of course shades of white to suit plus dimmability. For me, and probably for many others, the fact is that once I've got them set I don't ever mess around again so millions of options don't impress me overly. Warm white in the house and daylight blue in machinery areas works just fine.All in all though, I love these things. They make setting a scene or automating your household lighting easy and reliable.

I bought these as an experiment really. I have two lamps either side of my settee and an Apple HomePod. It's really no effort to lean over and switch the lamps on manually but I wanted to play around and see how well these Philips Hue bulbs worked.All-in-all, they work pretty well. I just ask Siri (via the HomePod) to switch the lamps on or off, or to set the intensity to 80%, 40% or whatever and it all works fine.Setting things up was easy enough too using the Apple 'Home' app.They seem fairly robust. I bought these back in October 2018 and use them every day and they're still going strong.The only downside was that this was a fairly expensive experiment. Two 'White Ambience'bulbs plus the Philips Hue Bridge, which was necessary to get the bulbs working with Siri/HomePod, was nearly £90. A twin pack of bulbs alone is nearly £40.I appreciate there's a mark-up for new technology and hopefully the price will drop in the future. It'll have to because it would be ludicrously expensive to convert my entire living room to Philips Hue. I have 12 additional bulbs in all, so I'd have to fork out £240 to do the entire room and that's just too much.If/when it's half that price I'll consider it, otherwise I'll stick with the traditional finger-on-button method of switching my other lights on.So I've taken a star off for the price but otherwise these work fine with HomePod and Siri.

Fantastic bulbs with a great gamut of white colours to chose from - from warm and cozy to crisp and cool and everything in between. After installing these bulbs into my lamp they were identified immediately by the Philips Hue app. From there it was only a few taps to assign the bulb to the requisite room (in this case the Living Room) and rename it to something more appropriate - job done! The light these give out is perfect - not too bright to be garish and not too dim to be unnoticeable NOTE: These bulbs require the Philips Hue Hub (sold separately) in order to work properly.If you are, as I am, beginning to invest in Smart Home technology then nothing beats being able to turn table lamps on and off,dim and brighten using just your phone (or Alexa!). The days of fishing behind a side table for the switch are behind us.The only reason I docked these a star is that they are *expensive* when compared to standard candle ES bulbs (a twin pack of standard Philips E14 Edison Screw LED bulbs will set you back £7.99 which is 84% cheaper!) Value for money these are not, but what they lack in value they more than make up for in convenience and sheer 'cool' factor.In summary - if you are investing in Smart Home, want to trust in an established brand name and do not mind the expense then get a pack of these and start your Hue journey - you will not regret it!

Finally, some E14 small screw bulbs from Hue. These White Ambiance versions are the usual high build quality I've come to expect from the Hue range, and cover all temperatures of 'white' light, from very warm to daylight.I bought two to go on a wall lamp in the hallway (which has no natural light), where the colour ones were not really necessary. I have coupled them up with the Hue Motion Sensor to come on when someone passes through the hall, and go off after a minute of no movement. Works a treat and means the lights don't end up on constantly throughout the day and night. You can set them up to come on at different settings for different times of the day (daylight during the day,dimmed in the evening, and night light for bathroom trips during the night), which you simply couldn't do with bulbs that are a set temperature.Since the light switches on your walls need to always be switched on, I've found plastic light switch covers (which you can purchase a small pack of for a few pounds) are a good idea to stop people, especially guests, from inadvertently turning them off.All in all another great addition to the highly addictive Hue range, so I'll be purchasing another three soon to go in my 2 year old daughter's room - another room that seems to be constantly lit even when no one is in it.

These give off a nice, diffused light and work well in a bedight light setup. They connect easily to the Hue bridge (required for any advanced features) and app, allowing you to control the white temperature from a very cold, blue white to a nice warm one. A cool feature with these is you can set them to fade in in the morning, at a warm colour quite like sunlight, to help wake up in the morning. I've used Hue lights for a few years now and had none break, so if they last close to their claimed 10 year shelf life then they'll be great value too. Plus you'll recoup some of the purchase price in lower energy bills without those awful early energy saving bulbs.Be aware this version only does shades of whites,you'll need the higher end one if you want colours, but they're worth it too only if you want to regularly set colours other than white.

You will need a starter pack to use these bulbs, as it uses a bridge to connect the app on your phone via wifi.I love Phillips hue, I have them all over the house!They last forever so the price isn't as bad as you'd think I haven't bought a bulb in a few years now, except for the sizes they don't make!! lolI teamed my lights up with a dimmer switch and a motion sensor for different rooms.Some of my bulbs are coloured in my living room, but I don't use colours as much as I thought I would, so the White Ambiance is a good starting point unless you know you'll sit in a red, green or blue room etc!!Alexa also works my lights for me and I can get her to set them at 47% if I want to,also each bulb gets a name and each room is named so you can turn by on/off/dim by room or individual bulb!

If you have not discovered Hue lighting yet, you have got to get your act in gear and turn your life around.Hue lights will do whatever you want them to, whenever you want them to.Either full 16 million colours or just white, the choice is yours. I have several multi coloured, I wanted a white one for the hall so I could change it from cool to warm light depending on my mood and the time of year. It comes on automatically at sunset and goes off automatically about 11.30pm or whenever I decide it is time for bed.When I am away, I know my home will be lit and look lived in so an excellent deterrent,and they last 25000 hours so will be good for a few years yet.I think they are something I will now never live without.

I love Philips Hue bulbs and these are no exception. I have a number of the E14 candle bulbs around the house, a couple in the living room wall fittings and one in each of my bedside lamps.Size wise, they're only a tiny bit bigger than a standard LED candle bulb. Philips have done really well to pack the technology into such limited space.They're bright enough and the range of cool to warm light they give off is exactly the same as any other Philips Hue bulb that you might have. So, if you're setting "scenes" via the Hue app, they'll work perfectly well and give a balanced look in your room.

Massive fan of these Philips Hue lights. Surprisingly works well with all linked devices whether it be an app on the phone or voice activated with Alexa. I have this particular bulb in a hall table lamp sync with a motion sensor. Due to me working shifts as i walk down the stairs i have this set that the lights come on in a particular time frame that its dimmed but, bright enough for me to gather my stuff and leave/return without it being overpowering through any door gaps. Then later in the day its nice and bright to light the hall properly. Well Impressed

I have been very pleased with my Philips Hue light set up, allowing me to control all my connected lights via an app on my various devices. My family too! These smaller lights were for a couple of table lamps. Being able to dim the lights as I want, say, darker when watching TV, is great rather than the conventional fully on or off variety. Probably save me a few quid on electricity bills, too, in the long run. Apart from my Philips Hue app I have also linked these to my Google Home app so can control them by saying “hey Google...”.

Great bulbs to add to our existing Hue bridge. Allows us now to switch our 2 hall lights on and off independently (or rather have Alexa do it) and the ambience light settings are fantastic. So glad we bought the original Philipps Hue Bulbs and not cheaper 'hue compatible' options after reading their mixed reviews. Setup couldn't be easier, both bulbs were recognized instantly and no problems operating via Hue bridge remote settings/Alexa/ Hue bridge. Not cheap, but seem to be worth it. Will buy more for other lamps in the house.

These are a great bulb, allowing you to change the colour spectrum warm white to cool white, something you can't do with the cheaper round bulbs.The prices are expensive, I got these as part of an Philips 3 for 2 promotion, which made the price a bit more palatable.As stated the price is dear, but I feel better that I can control the lights when away from home. With the easy to use hue app, the timers can easily be set, so as to appear your at home, to keep away unwanted visitors.Will be buying more.

I like:1) Excellent build quality.2) Very reliable - I've had about 10 of these (or similar) bulbs before, and never had a single fault.I dislike:1) These are expensive; there is no way around that.2) These aren't as bright as I'd like.3) The included instructions are not clear. You'll need to check YouTube.Just remember -1) These have the smaller fixing at the base of the bulb.2) It's probably worth getting one of the Hue Dimmer switches as well.
