This is a review for the Philips Hue White Ambiance Personal Wireless Lighting 5.5 W GU10 LED Spot Light, Perfect Fit [Energy Class A+]Right firstly i had to order these individually as Amazon just couldn't get the dual pack out the doors, which they had advertised for £44.99 each, with many many different release dates, delay after delay, rubbish explanation after rubbish explanation, it's driven me to cancel my prime membership. Customer service in this matter was absolutely awful by Amazon. But luckily this has no bearing on the product itself, quite the opposite in fact! Now the only bad thing here, which is most probably attributed to Amazon is that they list this as A+ rated for energy use,in fact the packaging says A rated, so if that is important to you then you know this product uses slightly more energy than listed, it won't be much but it's still inaccurate.Right some people may moan ab out the price of these lights but if you are a smart home fan then i think you know full well that it's money well spent, these in combination with a Smart things hub or the Amazon Echo make an unbeatable team. Using your smart phone with Siri to oper ate your lights or your voice in combination with the Amazon Echo. Two things i was worried about with these bulbs:1. Will they be bulkier and stick out of my flush mounted lighting rig?The answer is no they are exactly the same size, if maybe a little heavier than standard LED GU10 bulbs.2. Will they be as bright as my old ones and spread the light as widely as my previous bulbs? They are roughly the same brightness as a 50 watt Halogen bulb and the spread of light is very wide, not concentrated like some of the LED GU10's on offer. They replaced my old ones perfectly, lighting my kitchen exactly the same as before, but this time i have a choice of colour shades. Now these are the cheaper Philips Hue lights, as these are the Ambience ones, these don't have the millions of colours like the other expensive ones, these have two basic colours, the cool cold light or the yellow warm shades, you can choose either or settle for anything in between, if you go into the Hue app you can click on the particular light bulb and change the 'warmth' of the light. This can have a dramatic effect on your living space it's amazing. Now to get these in the light fitting if it's a flush mount you may need to get a sucker pad in so you can take the old bulbs out, but getting these ones in isn't as easy, due to the design of the bulbs lens, it's full of small divots, this stops the sucker pad from getting suction, so you are using pure finger power, so i suggest maybe dampening your fingers and gently wiping them to get a bit of grip on your bulb when you are putting them in place. Either that or maybe putting some black masking tape on the lens and using that to make a small handle to twist the bulb into the fitting. Now you have your bulbs fitted you need to ensure you turn your light switch on so you power up the bulbs so your app can find them, load the app and search for new devices, they will then show up, you can then group them all to show as Kitchen or whatever and you are ready to go. If you are using them via smart things or Amazon echo then you'll need to search in those particular apps too and activate them into your smart home options.I'm a massive fan of Philips Hue and these are not a disappointment at all, they have completed my smart home experience (for now), all i have to wait for is the Philips techies to design an IP65 fitting for bathrooms and then my entire house will be Philips Hue!

I am posting this review on several 'Hue' products. I have mentioned the qualities of specific items in the final paragraph.I wanted to move from tungsten bulbs to LED's and need to have dimming control. Initially I tried the Varilight dimmers and Philips dimmable LED bulbs. Whilst bright enough the dimming feature was stepped rather than smooth and even changed if the supply voltage varied.I decided to try Philips Hue. Amazon were extremely helpful when I made the transition. Our system uses two Echo Dots and One Echo for voice control. You will also need a Hue Bridge for full control. Our Lounge (11 bulbs), Dining Room (3 bulbs), Kitchen 2 Light Fittings & sensor and Bathroom (2 Bulbs)& sensor are all Hue with Alexa control in the three living rooms. It is amazing.AdvantagesSuperb smooth control using the Hue switches. These can be placed anywhere or used as a remote.Alexa control is absolutely precise, "Alexa, Lounge 50%" and it is. "Alexa, lights on" and ALL lights come on, in all rooms. Each bulb may be controlled individually or in a group. There is no need for an electrician - there is no wiring to do, just change the bulbs and set up the wireless control.Extremely well made, quality products.Easy to extend into other rooms as each bulb acts as a wi-fi extenderStarter packs are good value and easy to set-up.In time, most of the disadvantages are eliminated and it really is fun to have a lighting system that is fully flexible.DisadvantagesExpensive - VeryNot easy to find set up details. Do no try a complex arrangement unless if you're familiar with wi-fi systemsNot all bulbs types are available. The Hue bulbs may be too big for your existing fitting. Check carefully before buying.Sometimes a bulb cannot be found by the system and patience may be required. We have never had one that wouldn't work - eventually. You need to keep your original wall light switches ON all the time.In the event of a power failure, all the lights come on when power is restored. Switching them OFF the old way (wall switch) and ON again solves the problem but it could be difficult if you're away on holiday.Alexa can misunderstand and possibly start playing music instead.Hue White Ambiance GU 10 BulbsPerfect fit into standard bulb holders. With the Hue hub, bulb can change light temperature for reading, relaxing etc. Surprisingly bright. We use them for effect lighting on our curtains whilst watching TV. Particularly good on the relax 'colour' as it compliments our curtains. The other colours, would have been acceptable although 'concentrate and energise' would really be too cold - so full marks to Philips for letting us choose. Using the Hue app one can almost infinitely vary the light 'colour' within the range of the bulb. They are not the colour bulb.

Although our house is very much a “smart” home, I’m relatively late to the smart bulb party. I’m an immediate convert though.Over the last year I have slowly been changing as many of the bulbs in the house that I can. I have chose to go with the Philips Hue White Ambiance bulbs as they give the best combination of lighting options against cost that suit our requirements. Although there are a few benefits to the coloured bulbs, I see it more of a gimmick that you’ll quickly get bored of. Of all my lights, I have four that are coloured bulbs, but I couldn't tell you the last time I had them on anything other than white. I use the dimming function regularly, but not the colours. Plus, not only are they considerably more expensive than the Ambiance bulbs, some are also much bigger and don’t fit all light fittings quite so well, if at all.So, presently I have 10 GU10s, 4 B22, 4 E27 bulbs and 6 E14 bulbs dotted around the house plus some of the exterior Hue lights also. The elephant in the room with these bulbs is the cost. There’s no getting away from the fact that they are expensive, even if you manage to pick them up on a Lightning Deal. That said, you’re paying for much more than a way of lighting your room. Smart homes are only limited by your imagination, and you can implement some pretty funky routines through the Alexa app if you’re brave enough to delve deeply. Beyond the Hue bulbs I have 12 TP Link smart sockets controlling things like the lights on my two fish tanks, I have 7 Echo dots, 2 Sonos Ones, a Logitech Harmony, Nest thermostat and two Nest smoke detectors. My Denon amp is connected by its HEOS app, and I have a couple of LG TVs with Alexa built in plus another with a Fire HD stick. Five internal IP cameras and 8 external cameras plus my recent addition of a Ring door camera. If thought through, all of these can be interlinked. For example, should the smoke detectors or door bell go off, I can have the Hue light bulbs dim or light up. If a motion sensor is tripped on one of the IP cameras, I can have the Hue bulbs in the patio lights come on.Additionally, even without linking with other smart devices, the Philips Hue bulbs offer plenty of things on their own. The ability to gradually lower the light as the night goes on, and likewise gradually bring the light up as your morning routine begins. You can have lights come on as the daylight begins to fade, and set them to many different shades to suit your mood such as reading or night light, through Savanna sunset and white brilliance. You options are many and varied, and if you can look past the initial set-up costs, they can hugely enhance your home. I'd certainly fit them again if I had my time over.

If you have GU10 then this is pretty much the benchmark light to beat. But it will cost you - so wait for a deal (3 for 2) or price reductions. I think it is worth it though. The good:- unlike other Zigbee/hue compatible bulbs these have better CRI, better light dispersion and are reliable. All mine work and were quick to pair (try pairing Tradfri bulbs for a challenge)- colour - both cold and warm white is good and matches normal Hue bulbs (if you have lamps, etc.)- Philips still does firmware updates that have improved both pairing and handling quite a bit.- they are "standard size" and thus should fit all enclosures. But some metal enclosures may block the signal thus check that.- they dim up/down nicely and reliably.- they pair with 3-rd party Zigbee controllers like Smartthings, Xiaomi or Raspbee/Conbee on Pi reliably. Pretty much bullet-proof.The not so good:- at 250lm (at 4000k) they are quite dim, the Tradfri are rated 400lm and others are similarly a bit brighter (e.g. 300)- they are not cheap per lm if you compare to the B22/E27 ambiance bulbs at 806lm - you're getting 1/3 of the light for the price. In conclusion - if you want smart-bulbs, get rid of GU10 - it's not worth it for cost/light output. You likely need loads more (6, 8, 10 or so on) rather than a few (2, 3 E27/B22) and this will cost you a fortune. Choices are also limited. The best alternatives seem to be the Innr and Tradfri - but on a deal the Philips are as cheap as those - thus might as well get the Philips they work better, match other Hue and get updated regularly. But if you need more than 250lm per bulb then Tradfri makes sense.Other 3-rd party Zigbee GU10 (e.g. Gledopto, etc.) may offer colour at this price but with very weak colour and strange white light (forget about good CRI) thus IMHO no point getting colour if you use white 90% of the time.

Hurrah! Another perfect Philips Hue product. We are very much a Hue household, with 35 Hue bulbs and 4 Hue lamps connected to our system. We have the full range, from GU10 colour, through to the basic Hue white which we use in our utility room. The system is intuitive, provides excellent light, and is really easy to set up and control. To date, our only frustration has been with the size of the colour GU10's, which are taller than regular GU10's by quite some way. Having installed 19 of them in the kitchen ceiling, and having needed to find suitably deep GU10 brushed steel lamps to insert them in, we know all about this issue! However, we have a wonderful 'sabre light'style outside light which we wanted to control automatically, and the colour GU10's simply do not fit. These however, are absolutely perfect! This particular product is exactly the same dimension as a regular GU10, which opens up all existing GU10 fittings to Hue bulbs if you so wish. Instant Amazon delivery as always, and our outside lights are now proudly part of our Hue system. In terms of light - the white ambience is a really clever product. It is only when you use these bulbs that you realise the range of white you can enjoy - and one huge benefit for us is that you can alter your white colours to match times of evening or night via timers in the app. It is really simple to do, and ensures you have the perfect light for the atmospheric conditions around you. I should note that our outside light fitting is fully sealed, hence the bulbs do not have to deal with any water ingress. We'll see how they perform when temperatures drop over Winter, but my guess is that they'll be fine. As such, if you are after a smart lighting solution which works perfectly with existing GU10 fittings, this is your bulb.

Our back room and bedroom have 8 spotlights each so replacing them both with these spotlights was no cheap feat. That being said they are much more energy efficient than the old halogen bulbs (something you can test just by touching the light when its been on for hours and only feeling a slight warmth instead of being burnt!).The functionality of these lights is great, they always respond immediately to all commands given through google home, the app and Philips dimmer switches; being able to change the light ambience for different times of the day helps work and relaxation and being able to give each light a name means I can switch my "computer spotlight" on just by asking when there's no need for the others. There are cheaper alternatives to these lights which work fine.I have 2 Innr spotlights that do the same job yet turning them on isn't as smooth as the hue bulbs so doesn't have the same "smart home smoothness". I know a weak point but just something that's nice to see with the hue bulbs.Overall, set up is a breeze and using them is great with the only downside being you will need to have some pocket money hidden away to afford more than a few of them!

Big fan of the 'white and colour' Hue bulbs and have several of them around the home. These are the first 'White Ambience' Hue bulbs we've ever bought as they were for our shower room and didn't feel we needed 'colours'. They're also shorter in length than the Colour version (much more comparable with a regular halogen or LED GU10) and of course quite a bit cheaper to purchase. As always, excellent colour temperature and dimming controllability through the app as well as their day-to-day activation via a Hue Motion Sensor. We also have the excellent Hue Tap as an override. The only downsides are they're not quite as bright as I was hoping they were going to be in the 2700 to 3000 kelvin range. They could do with having maybe around 50 lumens more output to be more comparable with some of the brighter 'warm white' LEDs that are available. Conversely, they don't quite go quite 'warm' enough when compared to the 'colours version' (which I guess is to be expected).Other than that, they're excellent.

Since I purchased my first hue bulbs, I've gradually been purchasing more and more to replace all the lights (and purchase additional lighting) in my home. I'm a big fan of the hue range. Yes, they are expensive, but generally work well and are easy to install and configure using the hue bridge and the app on a phone. I personally love the fact that I can control them using Amazon Alexa devices.I'm slightly disappointed in these GU10 bulbs. I had originally hoped to use them in the bathroom, but found out that they are unsafe to use in those conditions, so decided to use them in the kitchen instead. I purchased four bulbs - our kitchen isn't particularly big,but I think that the lights are lacking in brightness when turned on at full power compared to other hue bulbs. The lighting from these bulbs is adequate, but not as bright as I would have hoped.

These things are great! Control them via your phone app or even via Alexa (or Siri I hear.) Dim them, or make them warmer or colder. You need a hub, but you can connect many lights and rooms to a single hub, and a starter pack includes one for free. The only negative I've experienced is that after being turned off and on via a light switch, they revert to the coldest of cold white. Brrrr! You can't mix these with normal lights on a single circuit, or they lose a lot of their usefulness. The idea is that they always have power so you can switch the on and off with your app. If you have other lights on the same circuit, they'll be on all the time. No fun! This can get a bit expensive...I ended up only using a few for my ceiling - I used duds in the other sockets, or didn't connect the lights. They're very bright, so it wasn't an issue.

These bulbs are great. I already own some B22 White bulbs and decided to change my landing (4 downlights) to 3 of these and a single Colour GU10 which I planned to use as a funky purple nightlight (see separate review - bigger and great at red but hopeless at green). These ambient GU10s are a fraction taller than a regular LED GU10 but not so much a it would cause an issue. They are towards the dim end of the LED scale at 250 lumens each (roughly the same a a 3w screwfix LED) but adequate. Where they excel is in the range of white which was far greater than I expected, going from an almost brown-yellow to a blue-white. I installed in metal fire-rated fittings with no signal strength issues.Unless you have a pressing need for pinks and reds then stick with these at half the price of the colour ones.

If they were cheaper, I'd replace every GU10 bulb in my house with these.Look and feel - almost identical to most of the bulbs I'm replacing. Exactly the same size and shape.Brightness - exactly the same as I'm replacing. This provides our main lighting in the living room and upstairs landing area.Ease to install - really could not be easier with Alexa. I fitted 8 bulbs, said 'Alexa, discover devices' and with 45 seconds, she found all but one. Repeated the instruction and she got them all.Within 5 minutes, I had them installed, renamed, grouped as I wanted and added to routines I wanted.I really can't fault these at all.I'm now just waiting for prices to come down so I can replace all of my many kitchen bulbs and hallway bulbs.

Really quick and easy to set up and pair with Alexa via a Hue bridge. The quality of the lights and the added flexibility of different colour temperatures and shades really does stand out against cheaper makes like Innr. The only issue is that the bulbs are slightly bigger all round - slightly longer, have a slightly higher waist (where they start to flare out), and bulge out slightly more around the reflector. This meant a significant amount of force was need to fit them to some of my existing light fittings, but as that is probably down to my cheap fittings I can't knock a star off. I have now spent a small fortune replacing all my existing halogen downlights but have no regrets and feellike I'm living in the future!

I have a dark room so I bought these along with the motion sensor so that as soon as the door is opened the lights would automatically come on and I have them on day light setting. It has done exactly what I wanted it to, you no longer realise it is dark in there. Took a while to get used to walking out of a room and leaving the lights on but really pleased with my purchase, in fact thinking of purchasing more for a cloakroom cupboard which accidentally gets left on all the time! There are other benefits too, a friend has linked his to his outside security light so that if it detects movement and comes on,his spare bedroom light comes on as well to deter burglars - think he has linked them all through Apple Home.

Bought some of these for my driveway entrance. I was initially concerned about them being picked up by the Philips hub as the entrance lights would be around 50m from the hub. I'd read a review saying a 30m range depending on number of walls etc. between. I thought if they don't work i'll just us them on the house however they do work very well so really pleased with that. I use them through Alexa which seems to work better than the Philips hue app. Also pairing up with the app IFTT really lets you use these lights to their full potential. For example through IFTT you can programme the lights to come on when your phone is recognised at your home location (pretty cool feature and workswell).
