We have been using this type of teat for over a year now and just bought some extra for convienence. The teat is marketed as 'variable flow' teat because the amount of flow depends on the position you put it into the mouth.(The opening changes shape depending on from which side the teat is pressed together by the mouth)But to be honest, we couldn't care less! The reason we like this teats is because instead of several tiny holes (like the Avent 1,2,3 abd 4 teat) the 'variable flow' has a 'slot' that allows fluids that are somewhat thicker than just milk to be used without any problem.A nice addition to the great Avent line-up.But I would only recommend it from 6 months or so, not the suggested 3 months.(With 3 months our daughter was still using no 2 teat, with the #3 or #4 she would drink much too fast, I imagine that with the variable flow teat she would have been drowning in the big milk flow)The I, II and III markings on the teat are not always easy to see, but that's just inherent to the product. The numbers on the 1, 2, 3, and 4 teats are also not easy to see. There's just no way to make very clear markings on a transparant silicone product that remain easy to see under all circumstances. Yes, it's inconvenient, but we can't really blame that on the product or manufacturer.Theoretically you could practice year fingertips to feel the I, II, III because they are clearly raised. But for me that's really no satisfactory way to find out the position of the teat. When they do find a solution for a more clear indication of the I, II, II position I'll give 5 stars, for now it's a 4 star rating.(Don't mind my English, I'm just a simple Dutchman)

These teats were a lifesaver for us. Baby is on nutramigen with gaviscon added to thicken the milk and the teats made a massive difference to the feeds. The milk is too thick for regular teats and the baby was too tired to feed properly.I have seen and heard (here and other places) people complaining how the 3 different settings don't correspond to the regular teats or that the milk flowed too fast. These complaints are often by people who are using the teats with regular milk. They are designed for THICKER MILK and not for regular milk. They are not a cheaper way to use the teats for longer period of time. If your baby is on regular milk buy the regular teats and buy new ones with a different size when he/she is ready.Don't use variflow as a way to save money. The flow is too fast for regular milk and you still have to replace the teats regularly like with the regular ones. The teats have I, II and III very cleverly embossed on the teats so it is very easy to find the right setting in the dark with your finger while holding the bottle with the same hand. Just as easy to read the markings when it's light. We had a lot of problems with feeding and without these teats our baby wouldn't have thrived on his milk.

We have found the size 1 (Newborn) teats to be the most suitable when giving our son expressed breastmilk as he would not be used to the faster flow of the bigger size teats. I'm sure in time he will want to go onto the larger ones but for now, this size is perfect. The teats fit snugly into the classic bottles with or without the anti-colic rings & the advanced bottles. They sterilise well & are extremely easy to put into place. The plastic container the teats arrive in is very useful for storing small bits & pieces such as dummies & medicine droppers.

Brilliant product. After reading other reviews, i was in two minds whether or not to get these teats. Firstly because they are supposedly for 3 months plus babies and secondly i wasnt sure if my son would take to them. But alas, My 2month old son has taken to them, like a duck to water. They are brilliant. Reason for choosing them was because my son has problems with his reflux and so he has to have thicker milk and the 3 hole teats were constantly clogging up. These teats have a slit and neva clog up. Fantastic teat. Happy baby = happy mummy.

My baby was born 10 weeks premature and as a result of that suffers from terrible reflux and has to have thickener added to his milk called thick and easy. We struggeled to find a teat that he didn't have to work soo hard to get the milk (all holes too small) or one that didn't poor it down his neck (holes too big) the variflow is perfect for his ticker milk and he can now take it with ease without choking on it. This is what ut was designed for, to use with milk that has to be thickened rather than normal milk. Brilliant for that purpose!!!!

I was hesitant buying these teats after reading some of the negative reviews but really glad I did. My baby is 6 months old and I have put her on Aptamil Comfort which is a lot thicker. Not even a number 4 teat let the Aptamil Comfort through but these did the trick and my baby who has had Avent bottles and teats for a while is completely happy drinking from these. I just wish I'd thought of these when she was on Gaviscon, it would have made my life a lot easier. They lose a star for being expensive.

My friend has a baby and told me this product. It is of good quality and meets my expectations. Delivery is free and quick. The price is lower than in stores.I would recommend this product because it is made of good material, easy to clean. You can sterilize them, not only in sterilizers but also in a saucepan scalded in boiling water, and nothing wrong with them is not the case.

Ordered this one by mistake. When i opened box i realised that it is not the same what i have . Even tho i didn't opened it completely coz it was in hygiene box . Teats looked good and clean. Minus one star , coz it was complicated to understand what exactly it is for . With the word "classic" i been mislead , i thought it's just a average - nothing special.

Exactly what I needed, variable flow teats are for the likes of reflux, comfort or the Hipp bedtime milk. Do not buy these for ordinary milk!!! I bought these to replace the same teats we had been using. They have done the job since my wee man was 2 months old. Very happy with them, I’ve had issues with leakage or anything!!

I am a big fan of avent bottles. This is the first time i have had to replace teats after two and a half years and two children. I only had to buy these because my two year old chewed through the old one but otherwise they last and last and even when stored and brought back out of retirement they still are good for use.

Used these Avent teats with my son 2 yrs ago and even though there is a new range of bottles and teats out now i will be using this type again when my 2nd baby arrives soon, as i know how good they are. My son had no problems feeding from these at all and i find them very sturdy and easy to clean and steralise.

These are great teats, nice to touch (very soft and rubbery) and do the job.My only concern is that the "avent brush" that they sell for the bottles does not have a suitable end to clean right into the pointy bit of the teat. Secondly it's only a twin pack (bottles are usually sold as 3 or 4 packs).

I can't compare these to other teats.... but they do the job and get milk from the bottle into your baby's mouth. Hard to gaugue the whole anti-collic claims... as we use various combinations of colic-drops, gaviscon and vigorous winding! A bit pricey, but they get a lot of use.

I have bought these especially when giving baby cereal with milk in his bottle, and for me it works perfect for this purpose. I don't think it is suitable for giving the baby only milk, as the opening is to big, it's especially for thicker liquids. For me it works perfect!

I didn't receive the original one that was sent out , so I contacted amazon and was sent out another and am now satisfied, I like the variable flow teats as they are good with the hungry milk and baby can suck and control how much they want to come out.
