First a declaration of interest. I was sent the Genius 9000 to trial, but this review remains entirely independent. The main selling point of this brush is that, in addition to the usual functions of a toothbrush, it has unique Position Detection Technology which interacts with an app to help you clean your teeth better. More on this later. In general, the box feels very solid and is definitely at the premium end of the market. It contains a brush handle, four brush heads, a box to keep them in, a charger, a smartphone holder for at home and a travel case with a usb port and a charger which also has a smartphone stand. The brush feels light in the hand and I like the fact that the standard charger maintains the same shape as previous versions. The black version is rather smart and it's quite fun being able to select your own colour for the light at the top.The QR code on the box is highlighted in the quick start instructions, but I had expected it to send me to a place where I could download the app rather than to the oral b website which is not mobile optimized - I'd think about fixing that. The travel case feels solid, but my phone won't fit in the travel stand with the case on - it's too thick. The suction cup for the home smartphone stand works well provided it's on a totally smooth surface. A bit of dampness on the cup made for a much stronger seal too. It fell straight of a painted wall, and wouldn't stay on the mirror or tiles for long until I dampened it but then it was fine and has sat there quite happily for the past week. The brush feels light in the hand and easy to manipulate and the other components feel solid and well-made. The app was easy to download. It took me a while to familiarise myself with it, but once I realised that you need to turn on Bluetooth before opening the app and do the Bluetooth pairing from within the app rather than from your phone that was really easy. Setting up the face recognition was absolutely fine. It's not a big issue, but I am testing the genius 9000 which has 6 settings, there are however only 5 lit up symbols to tell you which setting you're using- the daily setting doesn't seem to have a symbol and it would be nice to be able to see at a glance that I'm on that programme. The Position Detection Technology (PDT) is an interesting idea, but you have to learn how to use it. It clearly uses the base of the brush to work out where you're brushing. I'm right handed and I found that when brushing the top left of my mouth, it generally got the position entirely wrong (sometimes the middle, sometimes the upper right of the mouth, sometimes the bottom left) and it was fairly unreliable on the bottom left too. There's a circle on the app that tells you were it thinks you're brushing and you have to work out how to hold the brush in order to get it to register where you're brushing correctly. At the moment I'm finding it slightly frustrating. For the moment judgement is suspended and I'll see if I can learn to brush so it gets it right, but I've had the brush a while now and it just doesn't seem to be improving. It may also be a case of software updates.Whilst the PDT still has a few glitches, the brush cleans my teeth really well. I tested it with both the cross action and floss brush heads so I could compare with the standard vitality brush and it really does seeme to clean far better – I think it's the speed of vibration. It's noiser than the Phillips sonic brushes, but that's because the action is mechanical which I find leaves my teeth feeling cleaner and it does mean that you get convenient notifications every 30s so you can distribute cleaning to all parts of your mouth. I like the variety of programs and the battery lasts well. It's handy to have the pressure sensor because I'm bad for putting on too much pressure. Finally, the ability to store where you've brushed in case you can't connect to your phone or have forgotten too because of the morning rush is really handy because I can see that the gamifying of the app might leave me chasing percentage points on my average brushing score.Overall, the brush is excellent, the app highly motivating and the Position Detection Technology is a really interesting concept which still requires a bit of work – probably on the software side before it can justify the price tag.First a declaration of interest. I’ve used Oral-B electric Toothbrushes for years and wouldn’t be without one, this isn’t even my first to feature Bluetooth but it is the most over-spec’d and indulgent version so far - luckily at the heart of this kit is an exceptionally good toothbrush, but there’s a bit of tech nonsense surrounding it too. It arrives very impressively boxed, you’d think you were about to unwrap a piece of high-end hi-fi or a smartphone but it’s a toothbrush. You get the toothbrush itself along with 4 different brush-heads to try (each one different), a mains charger base with an clip-on toothbrush rack with flip-lid, a carry case with room for two brush-heads, a mains charger for use with the carry-case,multi-language instruction manual and finally a sucker mount for a smartphone. That last item should give you the clue where all this is going - this is a toothbrush you (optionally) use in conjunction with your smartphone. The individual components are of high or exceptional quality, the charger and toothbrush rack are the same as previous models but the new charger-case and the toothbrush itself are the best I’ve ever seen from Oral-B. The carry case has a soft-touch coating almost like a faux leather or suede and the interior is very thoughtfully moulded to carry the toothbrush, two brush-heads and, when open, there’s a rest for your smartphone. The hinge of the carry-case is formed from a flexible mesh which means that even when it’s closed there’s an opportunity for air to circulate and your brush-heads to dry out. The carry case can also be connected to the mains charger so that your tooth brush can be charged while in the case and that mesh hinge means you can also see the LED indicators showing when it’s been fully charged without opening the case. There’s also a USB port on the base of the case to connect your smartphone (or other device) and charge that too. Note that there’s no inbuilt battery in the case, it doesn’t work as a power-bank (unfortunately! because this would be very useful) and only charges the toothbrush and/or USB devices while it’s connected to the mains power. The toothbrush also has a non-slip soft-touch coating and the whole collar, around the base of the brush-head, lights up while it’s running and flashes red if you press too hard while brushing. This works better than previous versions where the red indicator wasn’t always that visible while brushing. When you switch the toothbrush on it rev’s up to full speed, taking about a second or so, which is a nice detail - especially when you’re best to start up with the toothbrush already in your mouth to avoid pebble-dashing the bathroom mirror with toothpaste. There are four different brush modes and a button to flick between them, but I find the default mode works for me most of the time and don’t often bother changing it. Although you get four different brush-heads included none of them is a Trizone Head which are my favourite, although those work perfectly well with this toothbrush too. The toothbrush pulses about every 30 seconds to remind you to move onto the next area of your mouth and then gives a longer pulse at the end of the recommended two-minute session. The biggest advance, for me, with this new model is that FINALLY Oral-B have made a toothbrush that holds a decent battery charge and stays at pretty much full speed throughout. Previously I’ve always found you had to leave your toothbrush on the charge base and plugged in all the time to keep the battery fully charged in order to maintain the full strength of cleaning action - even one day away from the charger and the speed would drop. It still cleaned your teeth effectively but it didn’t feel like you were getting the full benefit and felt like it took longer. This toothbrush holds its charge much better and even kept off the charger for a full week I've still been really happy with the speed and cleaning action it’s giving. So far so good, a real battery breakthrough, a great toothbrush and a great carry-case - then you get to the smartphone features and it all starts to get silly.I’m no techno-phobe, I spend all day in front of a screen and have done for years, but even I really can’t be bothered with the smartphone silliness Oral-B have included here. You need to download the Oral-B app to begin and then pair your smartphone with your toothbrush via Bluetooth. First problem, the app is really unstable on Android and crashes constantly - even on an Android smartphone that meets the minimum spec’s it’s a waste of time. If you can keep it running long enough you can now use the app to customise your toothbrush by choosing the colour of light for that illuminated collar - OK, pointless but fun. You can also use it to display a timer while you brush and make sure you’re doing each quadrant of your mouth for the minimum time - a bit redundant since the brush already does that but OK. Or you can use the included smartphone mount to sucker-fix your smartphone onto the mirror above your bathroom sink and use the onboard camera to video yourself brushing so the app can analyse your movements and tell you when and where to put the brush - OK, I’d like to tell Oral-B where to put that idea. The smartphone sucker-mount is nicely made and does seem to hold firm, assuming your mirror is spotlessly clean to begin with, but there’s no way I’m dangling a precious smartphone over the top of a hard ceramic sink of (probably) running water. Does the price of this toothbrush include an insurance policy for your smartphone? Sorry, that’s just smartphone stupidness. Some of the earlier Bluetooth Oral-B toothbrushes came with a little 'Wireless SmartGuide' clock that also monitored your brushing habits and displayed a warning if you pressed too hard - that achieved much of what the smartphone app here does and was much cuter, more practical in a bathroom and didn’t involve putting your expensive smartphone at daily risk of getting a fatal dunking. If you’ve already got one you might be pleased to know that it still works with this toothbrush - I’ll be using my old one with this toothbrush and leaving my smartphone in a safe, dry place.Slight sidebar: I just recently watched Adele headline Glastonbury (only on TV) and at one point she’s standing in front of the crowd barrier singing while a guy in the audience, directly in front of her and no more than 18" away, stares up at a smartphone screen to watch the event being videoed, I’m not even sure it was his own smartphone. If you’re that person, obsessed with watching your life go by on a 5" screen, then this is your toothbrush. For the rest of us, it’s an exceptionally good electric toothbrush with some excellent accessories and some smartphone features that are unstable and utterly pointless. If you can get the same toothbrush without the smartphone deathtrap then do that and save your money - but to be fair the toothbrush is the best I’ve ever had and even with the smartphone silliness it’s still worth considering.

The Genius 9000 Oral B is superior to previous Oral B electric toothbrushes I have tried. It is designed to work with an app to help with dental hygiene but can be used without the app. It comes with a stand with a 2 pin plug with compartments for brushes and also a travel case which holds the brush and also has a 2 pin plug plus charging port for mobile phones and a slot to stand the phone in. The travel case/mobile charger has to be placed horizontally for stability and to stand the phone up which takes more shelf space. The two holders could probably be made as one unit. As the 2 pin adapters are usually inside the bathroom, one does wonder about the advisability of taking a mobile phone, unless waterproof, into a bathroom anyway. The 2 Pin is no use if there is no dedicated shaver socket so it could come with 3 pin adapter for the UK in the box. It could thus be also charged outside the bathroom. The Mobile phone holder does not hold phones with cases very well and requires some pressure to pull the arms apart enough to clasp the case. It is advised to mount it on a mirror but tiles worked for me. Most mirrors are above the sink or at head height, so shorter people may be limited as the app's position detection requires one to brush in front of one's phone camera. One might wonder, should the phone camera be hacked, exactly what the images may look like! I am unsure how long the suction cup will work for in damp bathrooms but one can remove the holder and replace each time the app is used.In use, a buzzer sounds at intervals rather than at the end of 2 minutes (daily clean time) or 4 minutes (professional clean time), thereby encouraging one to move to the next area until the next buzzer sounds and so on; with or without the position detection app enabled. For the hard of hearing, it also flashes and vibrates at the same time as the buzzer. For the hard of brushing, it cuts out when undue pressure is used. Colour coded rings that attach to the brush- head match with codes on the app and in use, the handle flashes the colour of the ring chosen in the app. I initially thought the colour codes meant that the brushing history was stored under each colour, so enabling a history to be shown for each brush- head used or for multiple users to each have their own colour (then it would be limited to one brush- head type per user anyway if one didn’t want to mix one’s brushing history with another user and share each other’s brush- heads!) It would seem however, that the purpose of the colour codes is merely an aesthetic one. I would like instead to see the history, which holds the past 30 sessions, stored under named users. Although one of each type of head is supplied, one could then simply buy more brush- heads and select all the reds for one user, all the blues for another and so on, so that multiple users could use the app on the one phone and still have all the options available to them for each brush- head and retain an independent history for themselves and possibly per brush- head type, though the latter is arguably less important than an overall good score whichever head is used. One would think that downloading the app on a second phone would get around this problem but having tried this, it would appear that it is not possible, the caveat being, that the phone I tried this with was the same model as the phone I originally downloaded the app on to. So, it is a case of one Genius 9000 per person, which is fine if you have a large bathroom and multiple shaver sockets and do not mind the cost. The app could be programmed to allow multiple users on the one app, but I expect more profit is made from selling the device and app than in selling spare brush- heads. The app can be used simply as a timer but also as a brushing guide with the position detection activated. It could be useful to comply with a regime set by one’s dentist. It uses 130mb on set up alone, before storing 30 cleaning records. The app’s position detection is limited - I brushed just the front of the teeth to ascertain if the app would detect I hadn't brushed any rear or biting surfaces and it didn't, in fact, it marked me as a 'pro!' It is not entirely clear on the graphic, which is the front teeth and which is the bottom until one starts using it. So, the position detection is literally just ensuring each quadrant of the mouth, or sixth of the mouth (one can choose), has enough time spent on it, which one can, frankly do anyway with the interval buzzer. It advises using a separate brush for tongue cleaning which also, as with other brush-head changes, involves changing the indicator on the handle to reflect which brush is being used. When a pre- set regime is selected in the app for targeting an issue, it disables some of the settings, which one might find limiting as one may want to do a sensitive clean for one night and normal settings another; one can however do this anyway but without the app. It is certainly excellent for training users to target a problem; these pre- set regimes being fresh breath, plaque fighter, whitening, gum health and ortho care. The ortho care regime may be especially useful to a teenager with braces, particularly as their limited attention span for things they would rather not do is catered for by allowing content such as calender, news and weather in the settings, for which one must enable location. There are also settings in the targeted care regime for a dentist (or oneself) to mark on a diagram which specific teeth/areas need targeted care and this will then add more time at the end of the usual routine. If following a regime, deviating from it will affect one’s score as the regimes have a set number of days to complete. For each regime chosen, the app advises the right product to buy. Apart from the brush- head, the advice is the same – Oral B Pro Expert complete toothpaste and corresponding floss and mouth wash. The app use may over complicate things on a rushed morning. In summary, even if one abandons the app and can’t be bothered changing heads for each type of clean desired eg whitening, sensitive, flossing , cross section etc (there are 6 brush heads in all that will work on the Genius 9000), it's still a great electric toothbrush with a superior clean with different speeds. It is superior to my current Oral B electric toothbrush, the timer with intervals is useful and it leaves the mouth feeling very clean. To conclude, as a brush, it has the thumbs up from me, but the app is somewhat limited, sufficiently for me not to bother with it and thus, for me to consider it considerably over priced for my needs.

Total CleanDuncurin has been running up this fabulous, comprehensive electric toothbrush, courtesy of Vine and Oral B. In addition, I was keen to gauge the current views of the dental profession and therefore asked my friend who is a dental student for her views.Dental students have always been taught to promote electric toothbrushes over manual ones to their patients, because not only do they really scrub every surface of each tooth and get those hard to reach areas but some people do struggle with the specific technique required for a manual toothbrush and can miss those vital areas. So, when I was asked to try out the most up to date Oral B toothbrush with the newest technology I jumped at the chance! This pack came with a rose gold handle, a black handle, two travel cases, phone holders (for when using the bluetooth options), chargers, a variety of different heads and 6 different toothbrushing modes. The rose gold and black handles look very trendy in my bathroom! With regard to charging, Oral B recommend it takes about 12 hours for a full charge but it definitely does not take that long, half of that time at best and of course is very simple to do. I have been using the brush twice a day for 10 days so far and it still has about a quarter of the battery left.As for performance, the toothbrush really does it work, I could not recommend it enough. My teeth feel thoroughly clean and fresh after each use with no areas missed. The motor could maybe have been a little quieter, however it has lovely timings. It has a very responsive powerful motor. The brush stutters and flashes after 30 seconds to let you know to move onto the next quadrant and then gives a longer stutter after 2 minutes is up, you can still carry on if you have not finished though. I think my favourite part is that if you press too hard on your gums the brush flashes red to warn you and actually slows the frequency of oscillating action in order to protect your gums. My friend tells me that she has seen patients who have damaged their gums by scrubbing too hard, thinking they were cleaning their teeth better if they scrubbed harder without realizing the damage it caused. The set comes with a CrossAction head which has angled bristles for following the curvature of the tooth (I use this one mainly), FlossAction head for those tricky inderdental areas (you still need to floss though without completely relying on this head), Sensitive brush head with softer bristles and the 3D white head which has a plastic polishing cup in the centre of the bristles to remove staining. The bristles have a blue indicator on which fades when the head needs to be changed which is helpful. The six modes include daily clean, pro clean (higher frequency), sensitive, 3D white, gum care (for massaging the gums) and tongue clean. I use the daily clean mostly and it feels perfectly comfortable but would say the pro clean might be a bit rough for those with sensitive teeth and gums. I have also tried the 3D white mode, you need to use the 3D white brush head for this to remove surface stains, I have not noticed any difference yet after 10 days but it does take longer to remove those stubborn stains. I would say that the tongue clean mode which you use with the sensitive brush head might work for some but I found it rather uncomfortable as it just vibrated my tongue! So I just clean my tongue with the brush turned off.Bluetooth - now the Oral B app has an unbelievable amount of features to it but I probably would not buy the brush just for this and every time I tried to connect it to a phone it took quite a while to "find my brush" and finally connect. I was constantly turning the brush on and off and then my phone bluetooth on and off until it finally connected. I tried with multiple different phones but all had the same problem so it seems a bit of a faff to do twice a day. Once the app does connect it is quite fun. It is very friendly and easy to navigate. It has a standard timer where it gives you targets and points if you brush for 2 minutes and then reminds you to floss and clean your tongue at the end. If you do well you get rewards and can unlock more features such as the fun zone which cartoons your face and takes selfies. Again if you apply too much pressure your phone lights up red to warn you. There is a whole activity section with days, weeks and months so you can see your progress and if you missed any days. Under the dental care journeys this option gives you tips using this brush for a variety of things such as fresh breath, whitening, orthodontic care etc. Whilst your brushing the app can bring up the local weather, news, positive quotes, music, general facts and dental tips such as how smoking is bad of course for your general health but also your teeth. One of the main points for the app is the position detector (again this was quite difficult to set up and only worked for some of the time) this part needs access to your phone camera so takes some configuring to do where you have to position the phone on the wall and your face in the correct way, and the app then brings up a model of teeth and shows you exactly which areas you have missed when brushing. This again gives you a progress chart so you can see you much you are improving. I really liked the concept of the app to try and get toothbrushing more fun, to get those vital two minutes of cleaning twice a day done and also to show you which areas you have missed but I do not think I will be using the app much just due to it takes a long time to connect to the brush and having to position your face. One other point is that it came with a 2 plug charger and although this is fine for those who have 2-pin shaver sockets in their bathrooms not everyone will have one of these and will have to find an adaptor to charge the brush.Other than these minor niggles, it’s a fabulous piece of kit. 5-stars with my thanks.

I have used Oral-B toothbrushes like this one for many years, when my last brush gave up the ghost (my own fault) and following a conversation with my dentist I did not bother to look at other brands and just bought this product. So, I do write this review as a repeat customer.Too Expensive?I did have reservations before spending £90 on a toothbrush but assuming it lasts 3 years (my previous ones have lasted well) it works out at 56p per week which seems like a small price for healthy teeth and a lot cheaper than dental care!HandleThe handle feels comfortable in hand and well made. It has a power button, mode button and mode display on the front face so it is easy to see if you are in cleaning mode, polishing, gentle or tongue cleaning mode. There is also a bluetooth indicator that shows if you are connected to the app available for your smart phone. Charging is achieved by standing the handle onto the charging dock (supplied with 2 pin 'shaver' plug). The handle will sit on any flat surface without toppling over.Charging Dock and TrayThe charging dock (with attached mains lead, 2 pin 'shaver' plug) has a knob that supports the handle, it is really easy to place the handle down as it all fits together well. They also supply a small tray that sits over the charger which can hold extra brushes and makes for a little toothbrush station, quite neat.Travel CaseThe supplied travel case is well thought out. It holds the handle and 2 brushes in a hard case (it's a bit like a large spec case). The travel case also comes with it's own independent charger which plugs into a 2 pin shaver mains outlet on one end and the base of the travel case at the other end. The toothbrush then charges while in the case either with the lid open or closed. I like this system as you don't have to steal the charger from home or have the handle rattling around hand luggage getting dirty. The case also has a USB outlet to charge your phone while charging your brush. I do wish it was the other way around so I could plug the case into a good phone charger and not have to take the Oral-B charger in my bag (Like most of us, I always carry a 2amp USB charger when away from home).BrushesThe brush came supplied with 5 heads I think. The Oral-B website has a description of what brush type does what - I like the round ones best so will stick to them. The brushes slide over a spike on the handle, very easy.App / Bluetooth / Mirror MountI like my toothbrush to be smart enough so it tells me if I'm pressing too hard and when it is time to stop brushing. That's a perfectly fine evolution and use of technology. I think an app has uses but really don't want a future where we have talking AI toothbrushes who may plot to assimilate us all using Bluetooth. I have seen Star Trek, the Borg are really not very nice.A mirror mount is supplied that will hold your phone on the bathroom mirror leaving your hand free for brushing your teeth. You then connect your phone to the Oral-B app which uses the phones camera and position information from the brush to make sure you clean your teeth properly. I you have not satisfied the toothbrush it will advise you on better technique and, presumably, alert the Collective . You can probably guess the rest - it tracks times spent, tells you what you are doing wrong etc. Essentially, they have digitised a nagging Mum and dental hygienist (this is exactly how the Borg got going... ).I downloaded the app from Google Play and connected it to my handle without issue. The app asked for location permissions and would not proceed without it which got me worried - why does my toothbrush need to know where it lives ... ? After ten minutes of exploring the app I started questioning my existence and went to look for a strong rope to hang myself with. I do think that the app might work for people who like Tweeter and Face Box and believe that it could help achieving a better and more consistent clean but is there really any alternative to the hygienists' advice and diligence?CleaningI can not recommend Oral-B things highly enough. They all clean far better than any manual toothbrush and all other electric ones I have tried. I neglected my teeth when I was younger and probably deserve to have lost them all by now. If you are unsure about the benefits of these things it's probably best to ask a dentist or try one of the basic Oral-B offerings - they clean just as well and I doubt you would go back to a manual or other brand.Value for Money?Yes, I think so.The last Oral-B I bought was the basic one (currently about £30) and it did everything I wanted it to. The extra tray and travel case (and charger) swayed me to buy the 9000 series. It was also on offer for £89. The Bluetooth and App work and might encourage some people to look after their teeth but for me its overkill . The biggest benefit I find is I actually look forward to cleaning my teeth a little bit more and feel I'm making up for the neglect of my youth. Silly as it sounds, I feel a bit more engaged with the whole dental thing and that's valuable to me.ConclusionWell made, easy to clean and does what it is meant to very well indeed. Accessories are well made and well designed. Travel Pack is a good solution.Recommend highly. Why only 4 Stars. The app requiring location details - the Borg will find us soon enough I tell you ;-)

In the box:2 x brush power units (1 x Gold, 1 x Black)1 x 3D White brush head1 x Sensi Ultrathin brush head2 x CrossAction brush heads1 x Phone Holder (suction attachment)1 x Brush head storage unit1 x cover for above1 x travel case for brush handle and 2 x heads1 x 2 pin (shaver type) power cord.1 x Multi language manual (which you will need to read)1 x pamphlet that shows you how to ensure you don’t smash your phone when you attach it to the mirrorAs you can see you get a lot of bits for your money. This package is basically a pair of toothbrush motors, with a small selection of heads. One of the handles is black, the other is white with a gold panel on the front (you’ll find this one hidden in the travel case). They look really smart.I’ve been using Oral B electric toothbrushes for a couple of decades now, and I have to admit the newer ones do seem to be doing a better job of keeping my teeth free of plaque build up – at least my dentist complains I’m doing her out of the job of scraping my teeth, and she always compliments me on my brushing skills. This is purely down to my Oral B rotating brush. The handle on this genius 9900 is quite weighty compared to the brush I’ve been using, but it has a much bigger base and so is very much easier to stand up on end when I’ve finished with it. I don’t have an electric point in the bathroom so the charger is elsewhere. Despite the weight it is more comfortable to hold and easy to use and manipulate.Close inspection of the handle reveals an almost alarming number of things that can light up to give you some information. From top to bottom: translucent plastic that lights up in a choice of colours when turned on, and flashes red when you press too hard on your teeth; the on/off switch; the mode switch looks like it should light up but doesn’t; a big molar – Pro Clean mode; a feather – Sensitive mode; a diamond – 3D White mode; 3 wavy lines – gum massage mode; a sticky out tongue – Tongue Clean Mode; then there’s the Bluetooth light (yes! Bluetooth on a toothbrush); and finally, the battery charge indicator. The battery charge indicator on both brushes had two out of three bars lit on unpacking. After two brushings, it was down to one.Bluetooth is turned on and off by holding down the on/off and mode buttons simultaneously until the lights stop flashing, but you only know if you’ve been successful when you subsequently turn the power on. I found this quite fiddly and it took me several attempts to work out when it was on and when it was off. It really should be simpler. Now you might question why you would need Bluetooth on a toothbrush. Well Oral B has produced an app (what a surprise) and your toothbrush can now talk to your phone – hence the phone suction attachment.I think teeth brushing is a chore and if it wasn’t for the fact that all my teeth would fall out if I didn’t do it I probably wouldn’t bother. I don’t need to make a song and dance about it, but that’s what Oral B want me to do. You have to attach the phone attacher to your bathroom mirror (I don’t have a mirror in the bathroom, so this is tricky for me), because this is the only surface that won’t drrop your phone on the floor and smash it. You then have to film yourself brushing so that the app can assess what you are doing. I haven’t tested this because I can’t safely fasten my phone and I certainly don’t want to take my phone to the bathroom when I clean my teeth. You might, but you have to make sure the mirror is clean and completely dry before attaching your phone. To me this is a pointless gimmick and totally unnecessary for thorough teeth cleaning. Without the mirror stuff, the app will still tell you how long you brush your teeth for and work out average brushing time and how long you pressed too hard – for me this morning I pressed too hard for 0.01min in a 3.04min brushing time. It’s basically Fitbit for your teeth. How does it clean – great. My mouth feels so much cleaner than with my old brush. The brush is faster and smoother, the mechanism seems to be much higher quality than my old brush, and I’m really pleased with it as a toothbrush. The different modes, to me at least, seem to be nothing more than different vibration patterns. These are things I tend to play with for a while and then get bored and just leave it set on the default.Almost £200 is a huge amount of money for a couple of toothbrushes. The app stuff is a gimmick as far as I’m concerned and will soon lose my interest. The travel case only holds one brush handle yet there are two brushes. There is only one power cord/charger, despite there being two brush handles, and there is no room in the travel case to store the power cord. At this price, I don’t like that there is only one charger supplied for the two brushes.Despite all that, it’s a lovely brush, and does everything it says. It seems really well-made and it certainly feels like the best clean I’ve ever had. That said I won’t be using my phone in the bathroom and I won’t be checking the app for very long. I like that the brush notices when I press too hard, but I’d have preferred a buzz over a red light which is difficult to see because the brush is right next to my mouth and I can’t see my mouth from where my eyes are.If you like a little luxury then this is probably it in the teeth brushing department.

Calling this amazing piece of technology a toothbrush, is like calling Concorde a plane! Comparing it with other toothbrushes is like comparing an iPhone with a Nokia 3210 ( as much as we all loved our 3210’s and all those happy hours playing Snake!).So while mobile phones have been getting smarter and managing our work and social life, other things have become smarter too. For example I have a smart key ring which ensures I don't have to spend ages in the morning looking for my car keys. I have smart bathroom scales which record my weight and other stats so I know when to swap the mars bars for celery. So now,I also have this incredibly smart toothbrush to manage those 4 minutes a day we are all told we should be spending on our teeth. This toothbrush claims to be like having a dentist in the bathroom with you, which – unless you're married to a dentist or have a particularly attractive one – is quite an awful thought! I certainly wouldn't want to discover my dentist in the corner of the en-suite with his instruments of torture in hand!Fortunately, this smart toothbrush is nothing like my dentist. It is good looking, sophisticated, and very bright! Along with the app, it's designed to help you brush your teeth in the way a dentist would recommend. For example most of us don't brush for long enough, or apply too much pressure, or miss bits. As for in-between and around each tooth….well that “maybe tomorrow I'll floss, I'm far too busy today” thought process can be a thing of the past. This is where the Oral B Genius 9000 shows how smart it really is. It's the first toothbrush/app combination ever to use facial recognition technology and motion sensors to make sure you don't miss a bit. There is a mount for your phone to put on your mirror for this purpose. It makes sure you're using the right amount of pressure by slowing the brush down if you press down too hard (in technological terms, it has automatic speed reduction). You even get scored on how well you did. This brush has 6 different modes to choose from - Daily clean, gum care, sensitive, whitening, pro clean, and tongue clean. This is where it really starts feeling like your dentist is in the room with you looking over your shoulder. The app has a section where your dentist can program a targeted care plan in for you, or where you can program your own plan. Want whiter teeth? No problem, it'll work on a plan for you. Going on a date? Try the fresh breath plan. There's even a plan for when wearing braces. As you can see in the pics, you get a lot with it. 4 different heads are included, so there's a good choice of options. The travel case included isn't just a case - it can be used to charge the toothbrush and your phone too!You also get the usual bathroom charger that works with a shaver point (or you can buy an adapter to work in a normal socket). It lights up like Blackpool tower, so makes you feel you're travelling anyway even when at home! You can change the colour of the LED smart ring, to one of 12 different colours of your choice. With all these features you'd think that battery power must be bad. In fact battery power is better than previous models, and is faster charging.I was very fortunate to be selected to receive this toothbrush for free, in exchange for an honest review. This is my second Oral-B brush, but I have tried other brands in the past. The first Oral-B brush I had (now around 5 years old and seems as though it's from the Jurassic age compared to this one) is the reason I still have teeth. I know that sounds over-dramatic but it's true. Despite owning a £200+ Phillips Sonicare brush at the time I used to have to attend the dentist surgery every 3 months for a check up, and needed extensive dental treatment every 3-6 months. When I changed to Oral-B this changed to just 6 monthly checkups and apart from a gum infection a couple of years ago I've been treatment free!I've been using the Genius toothbrush for about 4 weeks now, and genuinely can't find any downsides to it. My teeth feel cleaner and I'm sure they're whiter than they were. I feel confident knowing that I'm using my ‘4 minutes a day’ (2 minutes twice a day) of cleaning my teeth very effectively. The app is easy to use, very user friendly. It is expensive that's true. Looking at it from a value for money perspective though, if like me you have to pay for your dental treatment, then I'm confident it'll very quickly have paid for itself. However it's still worth looking at the other Oral-B toothbrushes available if you don't want/need all the features included with this version as there are some great deals at the moment. In conclusion, I've given it 5 stars as it:*Is value for money and of excellent quality.*Has a great app to ensure the cleanest of cleans, and you can devise your own care plan.*Has a fast charging yet longer lasting battery*Is perfect for travelling, and I love the charging case!*Has so many different modes and heads that you can adapt it to your needs.

The Braun Oral-B Genius 9000 is the latest and greatest in a long line of spinning braun brushes. It shares and addreses some of the weaknesses with the much cheaper 4000 series brush I tested in June.In the basics the 9000 series handle is far superior in my hands than the 4000 series. To get you using it braun included 4 brush heads in the box - a standard, sensitive, interdental and whitening. I just use the standard - i have tried teh interdental and whitening and im not convinced they offer any benefits. It is chunkier which makes it feel better in my hand. If you do get a multipack there is an LED at the top that you can customise the color of to warn you that its not your brush; this led does flash red if you start to brush to hard too. This higher end handle also has a visual indicator of the mode you have the brush in; as well as a seperate button to help you switch modes on the handle. If you arent interested in modes the general mode does a good job and has a 30 second pulse to suggest you change quadrants (with the app you can program personal brushing cycles based on advise from your dentist.) The mode for gums and tongue cleaning seem to do a good job after a month of use my gums have been healthy despite a lot of travel. There is a mode to work with the whitening brush head to help whiten your teeth too; i havent been able to test the claims on whitening as I was already using a braun brush.Braun have made changes in the 9000 over the 4000 to address the poor battery life of the cheaper brush handle. The 9000 happily lasts over a week of twice a day brushing (and i tend to do 3 minutes a time.) Whilst the battery life makes the brush usable if you travel the recharge time is still pitiful and I think that Braun should be able to power the brush for more than 25 minutes after a full nights charging. In the box you get a cable and a seperate travel case; that can charge the brush when powered - as well as recharging your phone. The latter is a first from braun for me previous cases were just plastic stores. The new travel case lets youtravel with and recharge the toothbrush should have resulted in travelling with less. Braun/ Oral B have made the weird decisions with this case; add a USB socket to the case to let you charge another device from is for me a misstep. If you travel a lot with your brush then the Philip's travel case solution is superiour - it charges over USB so you dont need to take the 1Amp power cable and adaptor that Braun require of you. You need the adaptor as the 5 hotel stays i have made whilst using this brush; the bathrooms had US style and not UK/Euro 1Amp sockets - best case when travelling is you have a bathroom with a socket when that happens who wants to charge their phone in the bathroom? The travel case functionally worked well; it did protect my bag on 14 flights; i just think it should use USB to charge the toothbrush rather than offer to charge your phone. Everything should charge over USB.The bluetooth functionality and app tracking are the same as that on the cheaper 4000; with the same limitations - I think its great for kids to be able to track they are brushing but the implementation doesnt let families track usage that way at teh moment the app is one brush only - and each brush only tracks as a single person. The latest version of the app tracks how your brush; and in the box there was a mirror mount to hold your phone - it happily held my iPhone 6s and watches you brush ranking how it works. They have delivered a few tweaks to it over the month I was using it - at the start it didnt feel accurate when i was brushing at the back of my mouth, either the app or my technique has adapted to work with it. Its a great feature to track you are brushing in the right places in your mouth. The suction mount is for use on glass only; i tried it on my tiles and it didnt stay mounted for long - on my mirror it stayed attached for the 5 days i was at home before travelling. As an overall package the brush is very good. There isnt a lot between the Braun Rotating and Philips Ultrasonic brushes. I personally like the 9000 handle as it feels more substantial in your hand; and I like the feeling in my mouth after using the standard CrossAction heads. The battery life was far better than the 4000 handle; it lasted a week long business trip without the need to charge the battery back up as well as a few days when i got back; and the travel case survivied the rigors of both heathrow and the tsa in my bag. The Bluetooth functions remain a gimic for me at the moment; the camera brushing analysis definately offers promise for getting people to brush better though. Its a very good brush; and my criticisms are more about how they should be making it better.

So I’ve given into the hype and decided to swap to the Oral B 9000 (even though I was perfectly happy with the oral B 6000).Overall it’s a very good electric toothbrush as usually Oral B did not disappoint! It’s physical performance isn’t really superior over its predecessors but this version (genius 9000) comes with aides and adjuncts to enable you to brush more effectively!I’ve listed the PROs and CONs from my personal experience in bullet point format. I’ve also listed more details and bout the product and it’s features if continue to read onPROs-exceptional cleaning performance if used correctly, leaves your mouth feeling very clean- provides effective strong consistent pressure which can altered to your liking; pro-clean,daily clean, sensitive etc-comes with a nice travel case which has a USB and smart plug port allowing you to charge the toothbrush and smart phone-the Bluetooth connectivity allows your brush to connect with your smart phone to monitor how effectively you brush.- smart sensor feature allows you to detect when you're applying too much pressure- timer on app and 30 second interval timer on brush allows you to ensure you brush each section of the mouth for an adequate length of time.- Different brush head attachments available if you're fussy. I.e. The original round brush head, new angled cross-cross round brush head, soft brush head, rectangular conventional shape etc.- I had fixed dental braces and there are specific brush head attachments available for people with braces.- Once fully charged, 2 people can use it twice a day for a whole week before it needs recharging again.- I've used sonicare diamond, the Colgate electric toothbrush. And by far oral B electric toothbrushes have been my favouriteCONs-No longer comes with an actual physical clock/timer. You now have to use a timer through the app on your smart phone :(- Lots of excessive unnecessary features/gimmicks that you're unlikely to use - like the Bluetooth phone app which I never use as I don’t like taking my smartphone to the bathroom with me.....that’s just a personal preference.- Didn't notice my teeth get any whiter after using it for several months. But it does leave your mouth exceptionally clean!- Requires a twin plug so you need to have a twin plug socket handy or an adaptor.FeaturesPackage Includes:- Brush handle with 5 different brush heads- Bathroom charging unit with brush-head holder (ability to hold upto 4 brush heads)- Charging travel case with USB port and smart plug port which has ability to charge both brush and smart phone. Also the inner lid of case is in fact a smart phone holder/doc. Travel case comes with separate charger.- Smart phone holder with suction cup - can be mounted onto bathroom mirror etc.Brushing modes- Daily Clean - standard mode for basic daily cleaning- Pro Clean - operates at a higher frequency for a more thorough clean- Sensitive - more a more gentler clean for those sensitive areas- 3D White - polishing function. Can be used daily- Gum Care - for gentle cleaning/massage of gums- Tongue Clean - for cleaning tongue. Can be used daily.Features of the brush- Smart Ring - coloured light situated on top of brush handle. Lights up in various colours to indicate various things such as red = pressure sensor light, blue = Bluetooth pairing indicator- Timer - in the form of an app which can be downloaded onto to IOS or Android device/smart phone. Standard 2 minute timer with 30 second interval signal (brush handle flashes and vibrates in a different resonance /stutters every 30 seconds). The timer re-sets if paused for longer than 30 seconds. Timer also memorises elapsed brushing time.- Connect toothbrush to smartphone via downloading Oral B app on AppStore or google play. This will allow your toothbrush to pair with your smart phone via Bluetooth within a 5 metre radius.- Once connected the app identifies your face/mouth through the camera and monitors how effectively you brush to highlight areas you are missing. In short, aims to improve your brushing technique. In conclusion it is another great toothbrush by oral B but with all the gimmicks and app features I’m assuming their target audience is the younger generation/ tech savvy people.

So where to start...I've been using Oral-B toothbrushes for years and was excited to see that a new brush had been developed with great technology so just had to buy it!. In fact the Oral-B Genius 9000 is the only brush with Position Detection technology, plus you get an app that goes with it which was easy to download and install on my smartphone(i love new apps and technology)I was impressed when I opened the box to see all the bits and pieces that came with the brush - A strong travel case, Phone holder, Handle with LED colour ring, 4 brush heads – sensitive, white, cross and floss action - with refill holder and a charging leadFrom the app,I picked out a nice blue colour from the 12 colours available to customise the brush to your liking and was eager to start. I chose to try out the 2 minute timer to start off with. I attached the phone holder with the suction cup to the mirror in the bathroom, put my phone in and turned on the app. It was easy to use, I had the option of a countdown timer, a count up timer and a visual of either a clock, teeth or braces. You could change the 2 mins to more or less time if you want to as well. I used the Oral-B toothpaste with the brush, picked the cross action head and away I went... result - wow! my teeth have never felt so clean! the app then advises you to brush your tongue, for which you chose a different setting on the brush and then use mouthwash. Each action can be recorded on the app and you can earn badges to keep track of progress and keep you motivated. You can also add focused care if you have been advised by dentist to focus more on a certain area of your mouth. You can also do a brushing challenge with the app, to see if you are brushing correctly and in the right areas and with the right pressure. it rates you out of 100% and gives you advise on what to do to improve your score. I didn't believe I was brushing with right pressure but the red light hadn't come on, so i pressed harder and there it was, red light and vibration to warn you to lighten up the pressure.I also tried out the position detection, which uses the front camera on your phone to see if you are brushing. This is where the app/brush loses marks for me. It was easy to set up, positioning my face in centre, however when the brushing starts you can no longer see your face but just the timer, and then was telling me i was in a different zone than i actually was, which was frustrating, so I didn't really get an accurate reading. I'm just about to start on the whitening programme! There have been a few times that I haven't had my phone with me but the brush keeps records of easy brush for up to 30 days, so when I next turned my app and brush on, I was able to sync via Bluetooth. The only downsides were that I couldn't edit the day's recording to say that I had brushed my tongue or used mouthwash, so fell out of a daily record for my badge(competitive I know) and also if synced again within 30 days, I found that it doubled up some of the entries. Although you can delete these, when you sync again it will add them again - hopefully this is just teething problems with the app and can be updated at a later date.I recently went abroad and the travel case was great, kept the brush and 2 heads clean and safe. The charger fitted great in the socket and the case even has a usb port so I could charge my phone at the same time if I wanted to!The only negatives I would have for this is:1.it doesn't come with a UK plug adapter, only a 2 pinned plug for razor outlets. Although it does fit my old Oral-B's plug so can use that.2.you can't have different users, which considering the price you may want to have one as a family one and just be able to swap heads.3. you can't change the mode setting without turning it on, I found i tried to change the setting when i finished using it ready for the next brush.Overall, I love this brush, My teeth have felt so much cleaner in the past 3 weeks of use, my gums are healthier. Can't wait for my next dentist appointment. I would recommend this brush to others, I think it is worth the money.

I have been a long time user of Oral-b toothbrushes, apart from a short interlude of reviewing a Philips Sonicare Diamondmax. I must say that I find the Oral-b experience far superior in every way, and my review of the Sonicare gives my reasons. The current model is at the high end of the current range, insanely expensive unless you buy discounted. The run up to Xmas is generally a good time. It comes with the standard charger that has been in use for many years, a wireless probe the brush stands on. You can either leave this permanently topping up the charge or alternatively charge fully every few weeks. This model uses Lithium Ion rather than NiMH, so you will find that a full charge can be done over the daytime, rather than several days. To me, this is a big plus. It also means the handle is slimmer. If you use this charger, it will need to be plugged into a UK shaver socket, which accepts the two stubby pins, or alternatively, an adapter to UK 3-pin. Some of these can be permanently fixed onto the 2 pin plug, they wrap around it, but be careful, as some will only accept an EU plug, with two thinner prongs. [ASIN:B004I63BP8 This] adapter accepts both, if bought directly from Amazon, but is different to the picture, as it does not open. On the other hand, [ASIN:B004I63BP8 this] does open but will only take EU plugs! As well as the standard adapter, you get a tray for spare brushes which optionally fits onto it. I generally discard this. You get a second charger in the form of a sturdy travel case. The charging probe is built into this but you will need to carry the associated non-standard PSU. My PSU, strangely, came with an EU two-pin plug and not a UK one! I am not sure of the logic here, an assumption that if we travel, it is to the continent? Unfortunately, the PSU also has a proprietary plug to insert into the travel case, so break it or lose it and you are stuck! Here, the Sonicare scores highly with its USB travel case, albeit with a miniUSB socket and not microUSB. I don't understand the logic of Braun not fitting this case with a USB socket for charging, rather than adding a socket to charge your mobile at the same time. You get four brush heads with the handle, but may only ever use one of them. Oral-b offer a confusing range of heads, but stick with e round cross-action one and you can't go wrong, possibly adding the whitening one for occasional use. The brushes no longer contain chips to set a brushing mode and monitor age, so you will need to use a calendar or the app to remind you to replace the brush every three months. (They are far cheaper than Sonicare brushes.)The little display module is missing from the current model I am reviewing, the Genius 9000. If you wish to get the most out of it, you may need a smartphone or tablet. The associated app allows you to customize the brush in novel ways. For instance, it glows when on, using an LED ring just below the brush head. You can customize its colour. The same ring flashes red if you press too hard. Another customization is to make this ring flash to indicate that you need to change sectors every 30 seconds of brushing, and also after two minutes. I find this preferable to the buzz and speed change that was standard on these brushes. If you only ever use a subset of the brushing modes, you can customize the number and order of them as you cycle through the modes, a very nice feature. The current mode is displayed clearly when the brush is running. The app's tour de force I found to be a non-event. You are provided with a universal mobile phone suction holder to attach to a window or mirror at mouth height. With the app running, and as you move from sector to sector, this tells you if you have brushed long and well enough. For me, it did little, and told me I had brushed correctly at the end. It was pretty good at detecting sector moves, but was a bit of a let down for me.In summary, an extremely capable brush, the best yet from Oral-b, but at a price.

The Oral-B Genius 9000 is an exciting new electric toothbrush with innovative features. Oral-B have always produced very good electric toothbrushes and the Genius 9000 is even better. The toothbrush comes with 4 different brush heads, toothbrush storage, travel case with USB port to charge a smartphone and smartphone holder. I have been using the Genius for a few weeks now and it has been very good with long lasting battery and fast charging. The toothbrush feels and looks very nice and is easy to handle with good balance when brushing teeth. The toothbrush has six different modes (Daily Clean, Gum Care, Sensitive, Whitening, Pro Clean, Tongue Clean) enabling customisation to suit your individual tooth care regime.I have mainly used the standard Daily Clean mode, however I have found this to be a bit too strong in places and have therefore also used the Sensitive mode. It is very easy to change the mode with a few presses of a button on the toothbrush. The toothbrush as a whole makes my teeth feel very clean. The toothbrush looks very nice and has a customisable ring of colour LEDs, called a smartring, which can be changed to a choice of 12 different colours. The travel case neatly stores the toothbrush and provides a USB socket to charge a smartphone. The Genius toothbrush also has a warning light when too much pressure is detected, with automatic speed reduction to prevent gum damage. The toothbrush comes with four different brush heads (CrossAction, FlossAction, Sensitive, 3D White). I have used the Cross Action so far and it has been very good. Information about the different types of brush can be found in the instruction manual. The Genius has Bluetooth capabilities to sync the toothbrush to a smartphone which enables analysis of your toothbrushing technique using Oral-B precision detection technology. It is very easy to set up by simply downloading the Oral-B app to a smartphone. The smartphone is then attached to the bathroom mirror using the supplied suction cup smartphone holder (very easy to do). The toothbrush automatically syncs to the phone when the app is turned on.There are several modes available in the app, the main ones being a position detection, brushing challenge and a timer. The Position Detection mode uses the camera on the smartphone and facial detection software together with motion sensors in the toothbrush to detect which teeth are being brushed to make sure none are missed. The Brushing Challenge mode tests how well you brush your teeth in two minutes and gives you a percentage score of how much of the mouth was correctly brushed. It can be a bit fiddly to set up the camera position at first but once done a few times it is very easy. The Timer mode simply times how long you brush for and marks every thirty seconds to give a guide to move between the four quarters of the mouth. An interesting feature of the Timer function is that it also displays interesting quotes, tips, facts and photos while you brush. The app connectivity is a very good feature, enabling tracking of how well you are brushing, promoting the correct brushing technique.Pros- makes teeth feel very clean- new position detection technology to make sure all areas are brushed correctly- small dentist-inspired round head to easily brush all teeth- premium travel case for storage of the toothbrush and USB socket to charge smartphone- 6 different brushing modes- comes with 4 different brush heads- customisable ring of colour LEDs on the toothbrush- pressure detector with warning light and automatic speed reduction if too much pressure is detected to help protect gumsCons- can be a bit too powerful, but it is possible to lower the speed for more sensitive areas- a bit expensive but worth the money for all the added featuresOverall the Oral-B Genius 9000 is an excellent toothbrush with new position detection technology and other features and is definitely worth buying.

Double pack - I suppose this is a his and hers set judging by the black handset and copper/rose gold one. It comes with only one travel case and only one charger to share. Although is you already have an old Oral B the handset will fit those chargers. It seems a bit mean to not at least include a second travel case if not a charger. The charger has the standard 2 pin plug that seems to come with all electric toothbrushes whatever the make - presumably so it can be charged using a shaver socket in the bathroom. However, the instructions say not to plug it in near a water source. I usually charge my brushes up in the bedroom anyway and it is less than a £1 at the supermarket for a 2 pin/3 pin adapter plug. The brushes came ready charged so were good to go.In the box you also get 4 brush heads - 2 standard, a smaller "sensitive" one and a trizone one which the instruction booklet tells you to angle down on your teeth. (not quite sure what that means). It also comes with a plastic holder for your brushes if you want to keep a family sized container of heads hygienically housed and use a communal handset or to store your different heads. It can be hung up but the catch on the front is not too robust so I would lay it flat if using (we don't). It also comes with a big sucker attachment to stick to tiles on your bathroom wall (make sure the tiles are dry) which locks and holds your mobile phone into place if you intend to use the oral B brushing app. We have very unsticky matt tiles in our main bathroom so no one wanted to risk their phone on the hard, unforgiving surfaces of our facilities so haven't made use of the app as yet. I do want to as it has a feature which can analyse your brushing and alert you if you have neglected a zone of teeth. The box has a quick start style leaflet with dawings to illustrate how to use the brush and it also comes with a more detailed instruction booklet in several languages.I've included some photos of the contents of the box in this review. The brush is a big step up from the standard Vitality type models. There are 3 different modes. A professional clean timer and a 2 minute timer to choose from. One feature I really like is the collar just below the base of the head which lights up red if you put too much pressure on your gums with the brush. The brush also judders. This is great for me as I know I have a tendency to scrub my teeth too hard, damaging my gums and not letting the electric brush do its job.I have been using a Philips Sonicare for the past year or so after being an Oral B user for years and I'm pleased to return to the round rotating head - I think it cleans my full set of teeth better than the Sonicare's vibrating up and down diamond/rectangular head especially at the back of my lower teeth. I really like the interdental Oral B brushes you can buy seperately which really clean between the teeth well but the set does not come with these little extras. I have been using the brush from a full charge for the past month now twice a day and haven't had to recharge it.I have had problems in the past with the Oral B chargers dying on me, necessitating a new unit - one of the main reasons I switched to Sonicare so I hope this one lasts well. The Sonicare has fantastic battery life (about 2 months usually) so will be interested to see how this Oral B compares.I have noticed the price of this set is very variable on Amazon. When I received my set the price was £199 so no saving at the time on buying two seperate brushes (and gaining an extra charger), the price then fell to £109 which was terrific value but at present is listed as £300. So my enthusiasm for the set would be guided by the price. I prefer the black handset which is really solid and classy looking. No one is too keen on the rose gold one which is a bit gaudy - so make sure it is to your other half's taste if you are sharing.

I've used Oral-B toothbrushes for the last +25 years, upgraded to a new model every few years and am especially impressed with this set. The handles are chunkier than all previous models I've used, making them easier to hold and they have a non-slip rubberised coating giving an especially good grip, yet are lighter in weight than their predecessors. Their facelift continues further with an illuminated 'Smart Ring' with white LED band around the top although the colour can be changed to suit user preferences while red indicates excess pressure is being applied and blue is for Bluetooth pairing. Below is an illuminated function panel with the default setting being 'Daily Clean' which features no illustration.Depressing the arrow button selects a different mode: Pro-Clean (faster head rotation), Sensitive mode (for cleaning sensitive areas), 3D white (for polishing), Gum Care (gum massage) and Tongue Cleaning. Each mode can be used with any attached head although the Sensitive head is recommended with the Sensitive mode. After 20 seconds of brushing, the SmartRing flashes indicating it's time to move to the next quadrant of the mouth.Brushing can be monitored using the Oral-B app which records brushing times per quadrant, full mouth and trends. Although a little gimmicky for me, younger friends and family members loved it and thought it was useful for helping to develop good brushing patterns. A Smartphone holder with suction mount is included for securing a phone (58-83mm wide) to a tiled wall or mirror in the bathroom (ensure there is no steam though and it's away from any possible splashes if not waterproof). Pleasingly for Bluetooth fans, the Bluetooth functionality relates to the brush rather than the brush heads so even if cheap 'copies' of the brush heads are used, then Bluetooth functions will still work.Included in the set are two toothbrushes, one in black and the second in an attractive white with a rose-gold front panel, both with the same lightweight chunky handle and rubberised grip, a charging unit which fits onto the supplied charging station tray with hygiene cover for the brush heads , a single brush-handle carrying box with space for two heads plus four brush heads (2 x CrossAction, 1x 3D White with polishing cup, 1x Sensi-Ultrathin - the latter I have never tried previously but is noticeably gentle on the gumline).Performance-wise, this brush is the best Oral-B brush I've used from the range. It has a mode for every possible need whether powerful or gentle cleaning, sensitive cleaning or polishing, or those wearing braces. It is waterproof so can be used in the shower, has a wide range of heads available again (at fair prices) for every possible need and it is easy to use even by those with limited dexterity. Also, all of the brushes have small, circular heads of about 15-18mm diameter which can easily reach all areas of the mouth in adults and older children with no discomfort or risk of gagging so are pleasant and comfortable to use. Teeth and gums feel and look clean and healthy and this more powerful brush handle has a 12-day battery life based on twice daily use for the recommended 2-minute brushing time. If I were forced to find a niggle, my only slight disappointment is that charging is via a 2-pin plug with no USB option, the latter being particularly useful for off-grid travel. However, the 12-day battery life is ample for most of my trips. For anyone wondering if the upgrade from an earlier brush is justified - for me, I would buy it for the higher-speed 'Pro-Clean' mode alone: having used this, earlier brushes feel relatively in comparison.Backed by a 2 year warranty and 30 day risk free trial, you really can't lose and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this brush (or any other from the Oral-B range!).

My teeth feel so much cleaner after using the Oral B Genius 9000 compared to previous toothbrushes I have owned. It is great quality and does a brilliant job, but the features on the app are what really set it apart from others on the market. The app allows you to track your brushing activity and follow a program tailored to your individual needs, whether you want to focus on having fresher breath or whiter teeth. The position detection is a fantastic idea. It took some time to get used to and occasionally wasn't very accurate, but it is really reassuring to know that every area of my mouth is 100% clean. It comes with all the accessories you could need, including 4 brush heads, and I love the smart travel case. I was sent this toothbrush to review, so personally I didn't have to take into account the price. It's definitely more suited to someone who enjoys gadgets and technology, and if you take advantage of the different features in the app then I think it is worth the money (ultimately, it is cheaper than an expensive bill at the dentist!) Overall, it is by far the best toothbrush I have used and I would highly recommend it.PROS- Appearance: looks and feels very high quality.- Accessories: the box contains everything you could need, including 4 brush heads, a travel case and smartphone holder.- Travel case: the lid has built-in smartphone holder, and it can be used to charge both the toothbrush and your smartphone via a USB port.- Functions: there are a variety of different brushing modes to suit all needs – daily clean, professional clean, sensitive, 3D white, gum care and tongue cleaning. I have quite sensitive teeth and gums, but the sensitive mode worked perfectly. There is also a pressure sensor which flashes if you are brushing your teeth too hard.- Performance: The toothbrush itself is excellent. Compared to my old electric toothbrush, the Oral-B 9000 feels much more powerful, and my teeth feel much cleaner.- Position Detection: This is one of the best things about this toothbrush. The brush connects to the app via Bluetooth and uses your phone’s camera to track your brushing. I found it quite easy to set up. I was rather worried about putting my expensive iPhone 6 into the phone holder in order to use the position detection, but the holder was surprisingly sturdy.- The App: There are some brilliant features in the app. It tracks your brushing activity, and it automatically syncs previous sessions if you forget to connect your phone. You can earn 'achievements' for brushing on consecutive days, which could be particularly useful to motivate children. There are also programs that focus on a specific issue, such as fresh breath, whitening or orthodontic care. Your dentist can even set up a customised dental care routine tailored to your individual needs.CONS- Position Detection Technology: I had a few problems with the accuracy which was quite frustrating, and it takes a while to get used to it. I've found that I don't have time to set it up every day, but I use it every now and again.- Accessories: The toothbrush only comes with a two-pin lead that requires a shaving point to charge it. Personally, this was not a problem for me but not all bathrooms have these. For the price, I would expect to also have a UK mains charger or to come with an adaptor.- Travel case: It can only be charged using the two-pin shaving point lead, and does not retain charge (only works when plugged in).- App: It would be really great if the app could store information for different users. It is a lot of money to spend on a toothbrush, and I personally feel it would be much better value if more than one person could use it to track their brushing habits.
