I received this product for free to test and review as a member of P&G's Super Savvy Me Savvy Circle. This toothbrush is smart in several ways. Some of those ways are useful smart, some of those ways are gimmicks. The actual toothbrushing part is brilliant. There is a choice of heads to suit you, and I found the sensitive head is soft enough on my gums not to cause irritation. There is an incredibly useful red warning light which flashes at you every time you press down too hard when brushing. I have found myself almost trying to see if I can go a whole brush without setting it off, so it does in fact encourage and train into you healthy habits.I have found my gums feel a lot less irritated now I am not going at my teeth like The Hulk. The other useful part is the timer which is built in. Every 30 seconds the brush vibrates in your hand to let you know you can move on to a different part of your mouth- this is supposed to encourage you to split your mouth into quadrant areas and brush each quadrant separately. I found that too fussy so I just use the 30 second notifications as a way of encouraging myself to keep going. When your 2 minutes is up (this is how long they recommend you brush for each time), the brush vibrates extra long to tell you that you can stop, but it doesn't turn itself off automatically- this way, if you feel you need to brush a bit more because you've had too many sweets or something, you can just keep going. Now for what I feel is the gimmicky part of the brush- the blue tooth. As they say on The Big Bang Theory- 'everything is better with bluetooth'. But is it? The brush has the connectivity because it can join up to your smartphone, where you download the Oral B app. The app has functions such as a timer- but the timer feels a bit redundant, considering the brush itself times you anyway. You're basically timing yourself with two things at the same time. The second main function is that you log your brushing- so every time you sync the brush with the app it updates, like how a step tracker would. Then you can collect 'trophies' and 'awards' for things like brushing so many times in a row or completing 'programmes'. The programmes are things like for whitening your teeth or getting healthy gums. But it all feels a bit convoluted and empty. It's an app full of words and pictures and functions, but none of them seem to do anything very exciting or satisfying. To improve the app, I guess you could add things like Facebook/social network connectivity, so you can compete with friends, but to be honest I have no desire to compete against my friends to see who can brush their teeth better. I'm not five. Maybe that's just me, I don't know. Finally, the accessories that come in the box- a kind of wobbly charging stand, that is overly wide because it also has a weird lidded compartment for extra heads. I imagine this would come into it's own in a multi person household where several people use the brush with their own brush heads, so they could use it store them? But as I said it's kind of flimsy and wobbly. It doesn't come with a shaver plug adapter, so unless you're lucky enough to have the kind of fancy bathroom with a shaving plug in it, you're gonna want to stick an adapter in your basket too when you buy this brush.Overall I like this brush. It does a good job. My teeth and gums have never felt so clean, it has encouraged some good dental hygiene habits, and having a brush that does a good job of cleaning has encouraged me to actually brush my teeth as often as I should. But I think it's not worth spending extra for bluetooth unless you have an urgent need to log every brushing session and collect meaningless trophies. Maybe I'm just an old misery guts though!

I had never used an electric toothbrush before using this one as I was a bit dubious about the whole thing, but seeing as I hate going to the dentist (I go every six months for a check up) I thought it was time to give one a go.Everything I needed was in the box, apart from a travel adaptor for the two pin plug, I nabbed my husbands from his electric shaver. From the box there is no charge on the brush so I set it up without putting the stand together. It just holds spare brush heads and is perfectly usable without it, as I was the only one using the brush I didn't see much point. The brush comes with a manual and a spare (soft) head.I chose the regular head and slotted it easily on to the base. For the first week I brushed without the app (brush has Bluetooth connectivity) and found it quite enjoyable to use. The brush spins so fast it makes me feel my teeth vibrating and at first the vibration actually made me feel at little dizzy but I am used to it now. The brush buzzes at 30 second intervals to remind you to move around the 4 quadrants of your mouth for a though clean. The recommended cleaning time is two minutes but you can clean as long or as little as your want.My teeth look visibly shinier and they have a lovely clean feel right down to the gums, my mouth stays fresher longer between brushings. After using the brush for a week I decided to install the app on my android phone, the app can easily be found in play store and talks you through the setting up of your brush. There are a couple of cleaning modes to choose from. I chose plaque fighter as I have a small amount of plaque behind my front teeth which I wont let the dentist scrape off as I fear he might fling my teeth across the surgery. After nearly two weeks of following the plaque fighter regime on my phone I admit that the plaque does feel lessened, I might even let the dentist scrap what is left off as I know that using this brush it wont have chance to build up again. The plaque fighter regime is slightly different to the usual brush mode as it buzzes every twenty seconds for you to change areas and actively encourages you to brush the problem areas a little longer after two minutes of brushing by using visuals on the app.The app is really good as you can synchronise your brush with it each day and it charts your cleaning progress, I don't always have my phone in the bathroom but when I do remember to bring it in the app and brush are easily synchronised by quickly turning the brush on and off again. Also remember to turn on the blue tooth on your phone. The app offers encouragement to brush your teeth, floss, clean your tongue and use mouthwash. The electric brush has a great feature that stops you pressing on to hard when you brush as I light flashes red when you apply to much pressure. I was a bit concerned that the brush head was hard and small but that has not been an issue. The small head can reach all the hard to reach areas in my mouth and if I press on to hard the light flashes. The brush needs charging roughly once a week but is then charged enough to brush two times a day for over two minutes a time. When the brush is charging a light flashes green and when it needs charging it flashes red.All things considered this is a great toothbrush, I am a convert. The blue tooth feature is nice to have but not necessary, it will appeal to people who love tech and gadgets. On the one occasion I did use my manual toothbrush and I felt like I was brushing my teeth with a massive fluffy brush and my teeth did not feel as clean.

I got my first electric toothbrush back in August 2011 and never looked back. That was the Braun Oral-B Pro Care 500: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00544XNEW – I praised that simply because it gave a far superior clean to any old regular manual brushes I’d ever used, plus it was also relatively affordable.5 years later and I’ve been given this new model, the Oral-B Smart Series 4000. In comparison it does the same job to the Pro Care 500, providing a great clean all-round but has a bunch of extras that make cleaning easier / safer, plus some gimmicks that don’t really do anything for me. In the box comes the main device, two brushes, the charger base, and a small tray. The added extras that really do work in its favour are:• A redesigned model, it’s slightly more streamlined and lighter to hold, making it more comfortable to use. (Admittedly you will still be dribbling into the sink as you brush!) It’s a fraction taller, too.• A great little extra is the in-built red light that comes on when you apply too much pressure on your teeth/gums with the brush. The base of the neck has a small trigger that registers when press against it too much, hence the light coming on when you brush your teeth. It works well.• The brush has three speed/clean setting. It does sound like a novelty, but a simple click of the power button changes this. (Press to go through the cycle of: Speed 1 > Speed 2 > Speed 3 > Off). The first is your regular fast speed, the second a slower one, and the third a pulse between fast/slow. I found the third good for stubborn bits. Some silly extra’s that you can do without:• It comes with a little tray that affixes to the charger. It has four spot for you to rest four spare heads. It’s kinda pointless.• You can download a rather well designed app for your phone. It’s designed to help you time your tooth brushing. Although it does work well I find it completely redundant and I won’t be using it again. The brushes…The 4000 series is being sold as a few variants. It’s the same model with a different choice of heads. These heads claim to focus on different cleaning needs, but if you regularly clean your teeth, I don’t really see the need. However, you’re not limited to one type of brush, they’re all compatible with the 4000 model, so the choice is yours to either stick to one or many head types. All in all, this is still a good toothbrush and a great replacement-come-update from my Pro Care 500. Although I’m definitely recommending it as a purchase for all, it really does need to be less expensive. If you can live without the gimmicks then look at getting the more cost-effective 2000 series ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00K2U5XFK ) or even the 600 series (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00K2U5X6Y )Either way, just buy one of these brushes and your teeth will thank you for years to come.

Does a toothbrush need to be Bluetooth enabled? Of course it doesn't - it is a modern feature which may appeal to some but not all. The handle itself stores up to 30 of your tooth-brushing sessions so you don't need to be connected every time you brush. When you do connect to the app it will sync all of your stored sessions and you can view your activity. The app itself has a few interesting features. If you do bring your phone/tablet in with you, it provides a news feed to keep you entertained while you brush - helpful to take your mind of the mundane task of brushing teeth. You cannot select the exact content based on your interests but you can choose the type of content (weather, calendar, news, featured photos, quotes, photo news, video news, facts, my photos, my videos). In the settings menu you can turn off the handle's vibration and you can also change the order of toothbrush modes (so if you would rather have gum care instead of daily clean as your main mode). You can also increase or decrease the timer. Another option available is if you cannot use Bluetooth but want to use the app it can start a session by detecting the sound of your toothbrush (I haven't tested this out yet to see if it actually works or not).So on to the actual brushing. I love this toothbrush. The first time I used it I couldn't believe how dentist clean/smooth my teeth felt. Having been brushing all over the place with my ordinary toothbrush I had to get used to focusing on one area at a time. It recommends that you brush the outside of your teeth, then the inside and then the chewing surfaces. But whatever your order, you are recommended to brush each quadrant for 30 seconds - you will get a vibration indicating that time has elapsed and to move on to the next section. You get a final vibration once your two minutes is up but you can continue brushing should you wish. This brush has three brushing modes: daily clean, sensitive and gum care. I mainly stick with daily clean but have tried the other modes. Sensitive does feel a bit lighter and gum care is more of a massage offering differing pressure. To cycle through the modes you just press the power button (if you are using the app it will tell you the mode you are on/switching to). There is also a pressure sensor which flashes red if you are pushing down on your teeth too hard. Probably something you will do at first if switching from a manual brush. You don't really need much pressure at all to get a good clean and once you have the hang of that you should be fine and not get the ominous red light.I would recommend this electric toothbrush, but if you are not bothered by the Bluetooth capabilities perhaps look at another Oral-B series. The Bluetooth provides a bit of extra fun and perhaps looking through your activity may help you become a better brusher.

Out of the range of Bluetooth enabled toothbrushes, this one is about the best in terms for value for money. It doesn't have as many brushing modes or fancy lighting of the more expensive models, but do you seriously need more than one brushing mode? This one has 3 and let's be honest, that is plenty. You get a standard charging dock (you will need a shaver socket or 3 pin shaver plug) which clips into a plastic 4 brush head holder (2 different heads supplied). Just drop the toothbrush on and leave it to charge (around 10-12 hours flat to full). The handle is slim and comfortable to hold and I only have to charge it once a week if that (it can be left on charge all the time). The motor is no more noisy than others I have heard and the oscillation speed is very good. It doesn't cause tickling or numbness as the vibration is relatively low. It stutters every 30 seconds to prompt you to move from one quadrant of the mouth to the other and double stutters when the recommended 2 mins are up. If you are using the app you will also see a countdown. If you brush too hard a red light flashes on the toothbrush around the base of the brush head to warn you although not too easy to spot. The supplied brush heads have different functions, I preferred the cross action head. The brush heads are supplied with coloured bands so you can use the same handle with different users brush heads, but this will interfere with the app as it assumes one user. The phone app has some very mixed reviews on the play store, but I have it working well on a Galaxy S7 edge. Be warned that the app wants access to your calender, location, photos and files. I don't really like the idea of this, but it is to do with giving you news and weather etc whilst you brush. It also wants access to the microphone and camera, but this is because it can start on noise of the brush if BlueTooth is off and the camera is used to recognise the position of the toothbrush in your mouth to monitor how you are doing - I am impressed with this, but it is fiddly to set up and the novelty wears off very quickly. The app can synch your brushing sessions and prompt you to rinse and floss etc. and it can remove unwanted brushing modes. I preferred to disable the extra modes and just stick with straight brushing. The reason being is to switch the brush off you either have to keep pressing the power button to cycle through the modes to turn off or press and hold the button until it shuts off. With the additional modes disabled the power button just works as it should. This is a very good tooth brush and does a grand job of cleaning your teeth. This one doesn't come with all the whistles and bows of the more expensive models, but the app works much the same and it cleans your teeth just the same.

Oral-B electric toothbrushes are very good at cleaning your teeth. Most of the brush heads have a rotating action that cleans between your teeth (although you still need to floss). With this brush you get the handle, two different brush heads (Cross Action and Sensitive Clean), the charging base, with a 2-pin bathroom plug and a storage container for up to four brush heads. There are three motor settings: vigorous, gentle and oscillating. The motor fades briefly every thirty seconds so you can bruch each quadrant of your teeth for the recommended time. A red light comes on if you're pressing too hard: you need to remember that you don't need to scrub when you're using an electric toothbrush -you just hold the rotating brush head briefly over each tooth in turn. The toothbrush is pretty much identical to the previous generation of Oral-B electric toothbrushes, and that's a good thing. The new thing is Bluetooth connectivity. But why on Earth would you want Bluetooth in your toothbrush?Inevitably, the answer is a smartphone app. Once you've downloaded and installed the app (search for Oral B) you can track your brushing history by means of little charts that show how long you brushed for. If you have it open while you brush, the app shows your progress and gives you words of encouragement - and also shows you news items, which you can tap to view. By default the app expects you to brush for two two-minute sessions every day. It also shows whether you were using too much pressure, and at the end of each brushing session it encourages you to floss, clean your tongue (really?) and rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash. To be honest, it is a little bit naggy.I previously tried using the smartphone app without a Bluetooth brush handle. It tried listening for the sound of the motor, and wasn't terribly good at telling whether you were brushing or not. Bluetooth connectivity makes a huge difference: recording your brushing sessions is completely automatic. And the brush handle remembers your brushing sessions and adds them to the app if your phone was switched off when you were brushing.I'm not completely convinced that I need an app to get me to brush my teeth properly, although I have noticed that I sometimes don't brush for the full two minutes, so perhaps I really do need the app after all. I don't know what happens if there's more than one person using the same toothbrush handle: I do hope it doesn't confuse the app. As there's space in the holder for four brush heads it is presumably designed to be shared by a typical family. It would have been nice to have a wider selection of brush heads included to let me try them out, although I must say the Cross Action brush is a good one.

I am currently 5.5 months pregnant and have been struggling with sore and bleeding gums! Was therefore so happy to receive this as a trial! I used to have a Sonicare brush which was misplaced when moving house (read, thrown in the bin) but never got around to buying a new one. The brush has a few different settings including a whitening setting, buzzes to let you know when you've cleaned one quadrant of my mouth, and buzzes more once you've finished a 2 min clean. I like this feature as i feels like I am giving each quarter of my mouth a good deep clean all over. It also has a pressure sensor which lights the neck of the brush up red when you press too hard.Again useful for me especially at the moment with my gums that are bleeding more than normal! It came with 2 different heads, so both myself and my husband have been using the brush after allocating each of us one - his teeth are generally in worse condition than mine, so he's glad to be using something that gives a better clean. My teeth did feel absolutely spotless the first time I used it - very smooth indeed - and have continued to do so in the last 2 weeks. The brush does take a while to charge up though (a whole day), and doesn’t seem to hold its charge as long as it says on the box. It lasts maybe 3 days with one or two of us brushing once or twice a day.I also don't have a shaver socket in the bathroom (or anywhere in the house) but did have an adapter that I bought for my previous toothbrush and my epilator, so was able to use straight away. Can see this being an issue for those who don't have this immediately available though. Also means keeping the base in a separate room to the brush (as no sockets of any sort in the bathroom) and remembering to put on the charger when running low. It also renders the case the brush heads come in a bit useless as the charging base is clearly supposed to attach to the case. I prefer my brush and brush heads to live in the bathroom, so they're currently residing there, whilst the charger is in the bedroom! In regards to the bluetooth connectivity and the app - unfortunately my iphone 4 doesn't have (and can't get) the right version of IOS for the app to work on it, so I haven't been able to use this function. My husband's phone is newer and on Android so he may have luck in future if we decide to try. I feel like this is a bit gimmicky though - if you're not bothered about seeing real time brushing stats, you can probably find a brush elsewhere for cheaper that does the same job!Overall, pleased with the brush as is as good as others I have used in the past (and better than a manual one by far!).

I’ve used Oral-B electric toothbrushes for many years and have always been pleased with them. They brush well, aren’t harsh on my gums, and feel well made. I enjoy using this new one, which has the main brush modes that I have found useful – some of the more expensive ones have additional brush modes that I haven’t used after initial experimentation. As with my other Oral-Bs, battery life, charge speed, quality, etc, all seem good. However, there are a couple of minor annoyances, which I’ll explain later. The Smart Series 4000 I have comes with a Cross Action brush head, as well as Sensitive brush head; though, as with other brushes in the range, it is compatible with other Oral-B brush heads, such as the TriZone and Floss Action brush heads. I used to prefer the Floss Action, but have switched to the newer Cross Action, which I find gives the best clean. As with some others in the range, the brush has a useful red light that indicates when you are brushing too hard, and vibrates to notify you at 30 second intervals and when 2 minutes recommended brush time is up.So far so good. The Bluetooth functionality, though, is a bit of a mixed blessing. You use it to connect the phone to an app on your smartphone. The app monitors your brushing, sends reminders, and gives feedback, both during each brushing session and amalgamated over weeks of brushing. I like the feedback. In addition, the app allows you to control some of the settings on the toothbrush, such as turning off the timer vibrating, or disabling some of the modes or changing their order. This is handy. However, I dislike using my phone whilst brushing my teeth since it gets covered in toothpaste splashes and is likely to be dropped. (The more expensive models include a suction phone holder for the bathroom mirror and do more with the app, so if you like the idea of the app, it might be worth considering these.)Unfortunately, there is no indicator on the toothbrush to show whether Bluetooth is on or off. You can disable and re-enable Bluetooth by pressing the on/off button for three seconds, for example to extend battery life, or if you have a pacemaker and are concerned about interference, or when your environment does not allow radio transmission. But since there is no Bluetooth indicator, it’s easy to lose track of the status.Another minor irritation is that the app only allows one toothbrush to be registered at a time. So if you have a spare toothbrush, or in my case, borrow your wife’s toothbrush when yours is being recharged (don’t tell her!), you need to manually re-register the toothbrush each time you switch.

Love this toothbrush - it was my first electric brush in years but dentist recommended an Oral B and said it had to be over 2000 to be able to do any good at all... yes it does come with the toothbrush training app - but to be honest I wouldn't buy the brush just for that because its crap! - Doesn't give you any useful info and makes assumptions instead of really sensing what the brush is actually doing! The brush came with a bit of a charge but still, I stuck it on the charger overnight so it was fully charged before I used it. - After doing that the first time I was able to use it for a month before the battery flashed for a re-charge!!As with any electrical gadget don't leave it on the chargerbetween charges because if a battery gets overcharged it does wear the battery down and eventually the battery wears out before it should, because it no longer holds a full charge - so charge and remove it from the charger till the light flashes for it to be recharged. (Not sure if you would need to get a new brush or could just change the battery - either way is expensive). So:Pros: Lasts a long time if charged properly and not overchargedVery powerful (charge seems to identify when the battery is due to run down - so the light flashes when the brushing- but unless yousaw that flash you wouldn't know it was starting to lower its strength because it feels just as powerful as a new charge)It has 3 different settings so you can put it on the first setting and go all around your month upper and lower on the inside of the teethas well as the outside - daily clean, sensitive clean and whitening - I use all three settings and dentist seems happy with that.A test of really clean teeth is if you run your finger across your teeth after cleaning it should squeak - and after you brush your teethjust once with this brush a light touch will give you a squeak!Since using I've noticed the light brown tea stains on my teeth have practically all gone (something I could never get rid off with mynormal manual toothbrush)I do like the appearance - and as a newbie once again to electric brushing...I kind of like it - its fun!Cons: App is crapThe charger doesn't take UK Plug (it only has 2 prongs so you either need a special bathroom socket that people use for shavers, oryou need a converter plug)For the price it should really come with a cover or case (but still you can buy one of these separately quite cheaply). All I can say is Thank God for Black Fridays!! (which came only a couple of months after my dentist told me to get one) :-)

I purchased the Oral-B smart series 4000 electric rechargeable toothbrush in the recent sale, this was despite the fact that i had purchased a cheaper model around a month ago. The reason i purchased this was because i was that impressed with my cheaper model that i expected big things for a model worth over £100 and so far i have not been let down! The Oral-B smart series 4000 toothbrush comeswell packaged secured with polysterene to prevent damage, in the box is the toothbrush handle, 2 toothbrush heads (Cross action and 3D-White), 2 pin charger, toothbrush head compartment and the instruction manual. To begin with i charged the toothbrush up fully as it comes flat,i then tested it out normally trying out the 3 different modes not really knowing what they did. After trying the toothbrush, i then downloaded the Oral-B app and synchronised my toothbrush to my Galaxy s7. The instructions provided by the app are easy to follow and it does not take long to have everything ready. The app allows you to select a journey for whichever purpose you want, i have chosen whitening. On my journey the app has suggested which floss, toothpaste and mouthwash to use and i have been following the times that it sets and using the products that it suggests and i am already noticing the difference 3 days later. A good feature i like is that if bluetooth is activated on the phone and the app is opened, as soon as you start brushing the app timer is synched and starts with the toothbrush. Finally with the app, it records the data across time so you can see how long on average you brush your teeth and also how long you have spent brushing too hard which can harm your teeth and gums. One feature which i havent mentioned yet is the pressure light on the toothbrush handle, i had no idea that i have been brushing my teeth too hard and i did not realise how gently you'e actually supposed to do it! If you press too hard when using this toothbrush, a very bright light lights up on the back of the toothbrush and you cant miss it! it's very handy and very quick to respond and allows you to adjust your brushing. All in all i am glad that i took the plunge and purchased this more expensive model as with the timer, pressure warning and product suggestions my teeth are already feeling better than they did and looking whiter too! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to purchase their first electric toothbrush or even someone thinking about upgrading their model like i did! Ill definitely be looking into purchasing more Oral-B toothbrushes in the future!

I was absolutely made up to get to try the Oral B Smart Series 4000 and even better was it was the 3D white version, but it also came with a spare cross action head so I could get an idea of how both brush heads work differently. Now to start I will say I am a smoker and a coffee drinker so keeping my teeth white is a difficult task. The 3D White brush head features a small rubber polishing part in the centre of the brush and I don't know how it works but it really does help to brighten teeth. I have noticed that within a week my teeth have become at least 2 shades whiter and the clean feeling is something I have never experienced just from brushing at home.I am so made up with it that I haven't even needed to try the Cross Action head myself and have let my daughter use it so this bit of the review is from her point of view. My daughter unfortunately has a genetic problem that means she was born without a number of her adult teeth, so she has been told by dentists that she needs to take extra care of her milk teeth as some of them will have to last her as long as possible, if not forever. Mostly this isn't a problem but keeping her molars clean and healthy enough to last a lifetime takes a lot of work. She is currently 12 and she was excited to try an electric toothbrush and so far she has found that brushing the 3 times a day she has been told too by dentists with the Cross Action head gives her a much better and deeper clean than with a nornal toothbrush. The head is small enough to get into all the harder to reach places and the sensor that shines when you are brushing too hard has helped her to use the right amount of pressure and has stopped any accidents that have happened in the past and caused some gum bleeding. Also with the built in timer which tells you how long to spend on each quadrant of the mouth she has been able to make sure she is brushing for the appropriate amount of time and not having to guesstimate when 2 minutes is up. I have noticed that both of our teeth are cleaner and our guns feel healthier. I have been really very impressed with the brush and would definitely recommend it, especially for anyone who has the same genetic tooth defect as my daughter. I haven't yet used the app with the Bluetooth connectivity but I think it is a great idea for those who want to be able to see how they are doing. All in all this is a great brush and it has helped both me and my daughter to fall in love with oral hygiene again and get visible results of improvement in a short timeframe.

The Smart Series 4000 performs brilliantly as a toothbrush, which is obviously the main objective! My teeth feel cleaner than they have in years just from using this for 2 weeks, I particularly love the pressure sensor telling me off with the red flashing lights if I'm brushing too hard! The power socket is a 2 pin (electric razor style) so if have a shaving socket in your bathroom you can leave it on the stand charging at all times and it shuts off when full so won't overcharge. However if you don't have a shaving socket and have to charge elsewhere in the house using an adaptor, it's a bit of a hassle considering the amount of power you get per charge. The instruction booklet proudly tells you that you'll get 7 days of brushing out of a full charge - 2x2 min brushes for 7 days - which equals 28 mins brushing time. To charge from flat takes 14 hours! I started getting a low battery notification after around 4 days and charged back to full, I haven't yet managed to run it flat although I have noticed the brush action is no longer as strong as after the full charge. However the main reason to buy this toothbrush instead of any previous Oral-B electric toothbrush is obviously the bluetooth connection. On this aspect, there could be a few improvements - some of which that could be applied with an update to the app rather than needing to improve the brush! The "achievements" available are a bit poor, and some are odd - encouraging people to brush their teeth at random times just to achieve a badge in the app! 7 days of brushing between 3.30am and 6am, Noon and 3pm, or midnight to 3am - but no badge earned for brushing 6am-9am or 9pm-midnight which is surely more normal! You are also told that the handle stores brushing data for up to 30 days if you don't have your phone in the bathroom at all times - I find here that connectivity is not always great when trying to connect to sync previous sessions, and after doing this I have also found some days saying I have brushed 3 or 4 times because they have been logged twice - once at the time of brushing and then again a few days later when I synced manually to fill in gaps. They don't always seem to be for the same length of session either, so the best way is definitely to have it connected while you brush if possible!None of these little niggles are major however and the brush itself is does everything you could want it to!

I have had the opportunity to try our the Oral B 4000 and here is my honest review.Looks wise the Brush looks very similar to that of other models in the range. To me there is nothing that makes it stand out from the rest. The blue used is standard trademark colour. The red pressure sensor, whilst practical, is not very attractive. It is very easy to use and set up. The handle sits on the charger and the light on the front let's you know when it Is ready. The little storage case for the brush heads is very handy too.The brush heads just slip on to the handle and click in to place. A full charge from a flat battery does take a long time. But you can store the unit on the charger constantly and the instructions say the battery can never over charge,so this is very useful! There is a sensor built in with a red light In to the unit which flashes when you brush too hard. This made me jump the first time it went off! But I find this a brilliant feature, I was brushing too hard I quite a few places apparently! This model has blue tooth built in and you can download an app to keep track of your brushing. The app has features to help you improve your oral health such as Whiter teeth or fresher breath . You can choose which area you need to improve and it tells you how long you need to brush to achieve the desired result.the app keeps track of how often and for how long you brush. The app itself is very easy to download but it does crash and kick you out occasionally. The hardest part is getting your phone and the brush to pair up. It takes several attempts sometimes to help pair them together. The brush came with a cross action head and a 3d white. The cross action is fantastic for getting in gaps or pockets in your teeth. But I preferred the 3d white head. It is the best for removing stains (I drink a lot of tea !) The brush also has 2 speeds which is brilliant if you have sensitive areas, I love this feature!A great product but the glitches on the app and with the blue tooth let it down. Great value at the sale price but I wouldn't pay the full r.r.p for this product. For the full r.r.p it could be improved in looks. I would recommend this product to others based on performance alone.my teeth do feel cleaner and healthier.

The toothbrush works very well. I'm guilty of too much pressure as I brush, and the sensor and light on the Oral-B Smart Series 4000 prevent that from happening. The timer helps keep my brushing in check as well, since I tend to brush for too long. As for cleaning, the Cross Action toothbrush head does really well cleaning my tooth surfaces, but doesn't get the areas between my teeth. In comparison, my usual toothbrush, the Colgate Slimsoft toothbrush, is great at getting food and plaque out from between my teeth. I'd still floss after brushing either way, but I find that I have less stuff to remove when I use my usual toothbrush than when I use the Oral-B Cross Action toothbrush head.Maybe a different brush head would be better for me.The toothbrush's battery life seems fair. It's been a couple of days since I plugged mine, and it's still going strong. I would take this toothbrush on a weekend holiday with me. However, I feel that the manufacturer could have included at least a travel case for the toothbrush heads, if not the full case like the Oral-B 5000 has.The app works well for my purposes. I like that it keeps track of how long I brush each time, and I like that it has recommended brushing routines, or "journeys".The outer packaging is well designed, with the kit's features prominently displayed so it's easy to know whether the Oral-B Smart Series 4000 is for you. However, the packaging insert is polystyrene. Some may not feel that this makes a difference, but I come from a country where plastic or metal recycling isn't even available so we have whole villages living among the rubbish on top of landfills. I feel that the manufacturer could have done better and used a cardboard insert instead. At least cardboard can be recycled in many countries. The toothbrush charger has a European plug with two round pins. It doesn't make a difference to me as I already have UK plug adapters on hand, but others may want to consider this before purchase.I received a free toothbrush set to review. However, that has not affected my review, and these opinions are all my own.

The Oral-B Series 4000 is a great brush. It definitely lives up to the Braun ideal. I've found that Braun products are generally robust. I've had several Oral-B electric brushes and they have stood the test of time. The nice thing about the Oral-B electric brushes is that you can interchange the brush heads as per your personal preference. The brush itself is solid and feels good in your hand, it comes with the 3D brush head, which is very good. The brushes is powerful just like previous incarnations, although as with most of these brushes, you meant to keep them charged, so it is always ready for the next day. If you leave this uncharged for a few days, you will notice it is not as efficient as it is when fully charged. So, my advice is to keep this fully charged always. It has a pressure sensor which is kind of standard for most electric brushes nowadays. It also has Bluetooth technology, so you can use the Oral-B app on you phone and check the progress. I'm not to keen on the Bluetooth app, do I really need that much detail and does my dentist really care. I'm pretty good with dental hygiene and the app does nothing for me. I guess if your new to electric brushes it maybe handy. In today's world everyone wants an app on the phone to look at things or just talk about. I'm not very keen on some apps as it can detract from the things you should be focusing on in life.If i gave this to an teenager he would focus on the app and not on his teeth, so I am skeptical on the benefits of a Bluetooth App.If you take away the Oral-B app and just look at the brush itself, then it is a solid entry from Braun and does what it should. The Bluetooth I guess is an added bonus and I expect other electric toothbrush manufacturers to follow suit. It is a bit gimmicky, but allot of Phone apps are gimmicks, you only use what you really need. Now, I maybe wrong and everyone may love the Oral-B app and enjoy seeing the feedback displayed.Overall, a great toothbrush and with the wide variety of brush heads available for this model, you can not go wrong.
