I think this little bath thermometer is an excellent bath aid for parents to help take the guesswork out of bath time. I know the conventional wisdom is to dunk your elbow but I've never quite got that as individuals feel temperature differently- what one thinks is scalding is relatively cool to another- this makes it easier for particularly new parents to be confident bathing their newborn and I don't think that is an affectation or panic-marketing that some other products are.I've gone on to purchase another as a gift so it's well worth the money.Well made, smooth (apart from raised dots) edges and chunky, this bath thermometer also floats on the surface meaning you don't have to pick it up or look through refraction of water to read the temperature.Give it a good whack with your palm to wake it (better difficult to wake than drains battery by being set on by a sudden draught!) and it double duties by being able to assess the room temperature too. Pop in the bath water and the LCD will reveal in Celsius how the bath water is faring. There is a flashing red LED that will show if the water goes above 38oC and the LCD. Will cycle between HOT! and the temperature, but there is no warning for cold other than the word cold displayed above the temperature on the LCD.On the subject of colour the page is misleading as I thought I was getting a blue/teal one when a pink arrived! Personally I am happy with either colour as I don't restrict my daughters to gender stereotypes but I understand the pressure mums of boys may face when boys are pressured that pink is a girls colour, it's not so vehement with blue when you have a girl. Perhaps gender neutral colours may have been better for pot luck?Either way I love this little thermometer and it has also been employed in our paddling pool (under a gazebo one for sun protection for the girls but also the thermometer shouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight) to tell me when another bucket of hot water is necessary.

When bathtime is already quite a hassle and you already don’t have enough hands to cope with the kids and all the accessories, it’s great to have a thermometer that is simplicity itself. There isn’t even an ‘on’ button- you just drop it in the water, and it tells you what the temperature is. It beeps if it’s too hot. No frills, no complexity, lovely.Design-wise though I think they missed a trick by not making the ‘cold’ and ‘hot’ LCD elements a bit bigger, thus making it even simpler. As it is, the numbers are big but the ‘cold’ display is small. A minor quibble maybe, but a shame. For slightly older kids they could perhaps have even put little symbols on there,so that the child themselves could understand what it was saying without having had to learn to read or to understand what the number ‘35’ means. The product description simply says ‘colours may vary’, and while I was offered a blue one according to the picture, I received a pink one, and seemingly any customer will have a 50/50 chance of getting either blue or pink and no say in the matter. Not a problem for me, but potentially an issue for some parents- or some children- who might object to pink or to blue. It’s a four stars from me. It’s brilliantly simple and seems accurate, but it’s larger than some other bath thermometers we’ve seen, and the LCD display could’ve been just a little bit clearer. And not offering the customer a choice of which colour they want seems quite an un-Amazon thing to do.

What a fabulous little item! When mine were little you had to stick your elbow in the bathwater to test the temperature - always a dodgy procedure - and sometimes also painful. This is a vast improvement!I was sent a pink one - and it is very pink.. It's very cute- and quite solid and sturdy as well, so will stand up to being treated like a toy as the kids get older. It's a piece of cake to operate. Just give it a gentle whack on the edge of the bath and it's turned on. Drop it in the bath and it will float, sensing the temperature with a little sensor on its underside. Tells you the temperature straight away - and, like Goldilocks, will tell you if it is hot, cold, or just right.Turns off by itself so there is no need to worry that it will keep on going till the battery dies. Works in water and in the air as well - so if you lack a thermometer and you're worried a room might be too hot or cold - this will at least give you the room temperature. But the hot/cold/just right info only applies to bathwater - which needs to be much warmer than the air in the room. And it's not just a great option for the kids' bath time, either - it is also a great help for when you have to bath the dog. Super and versatile little product.

This is cute, and I liked the clear digital display which makes it not just cute but useful. To start with I couldn't get mine to activate, then read other reviews referring to a 'good whack' to wake it up.This is indeed what you have to do, thanks to those who pointed it out.A biggish disadvantage for me was that the colour sent was random pink or blue. Mine was blue, but if you are going to send a colour at random, why not make the product in neutral white, aqua green or yellow?I tested mine initially in warm water and promptly got a HOT on screen warning on the digital display. Leaving it in the sink to cool to see what happened, the COLD digital warning was flashed up. This is clear, unambiguous and the most useful feature of the thermometer. This is really going to be most useful at the start of bathtime before baby goes in the bath. Getting an accurate reading once the little one spots this and plays with their toy may prove to be quite a challenge.Useful for grandparents who don't fancy getting an elbow wet with tried and tested methods!

As other reviewers have mentioned, you can't pick your colour when ordering. This wasn't a big deal for me though. I received the blue version and it looks nice.Anyway - on to the functionality of the product. This small plastic bath thermometer does the job well enough and floats in the bath to be played with too. I have had other bath thermometers in the past (now broken though) that changed colour to show the temperature - from green for the correct, to blue for cold and red for too hot. This one is a bit more basic and doesn't do this, only showing the words on the display, or the temperature in degrees. This is still easy to use for an adult but with the other type my young kids could see and easily understand too. This will do the job with getting baby bath ready though and take out the guesswork. It is quite chunky, and nuby is a trusted brand so I'm hoping it will be durable

I already own a pink Philips Avent thermometer which we use for our baby girl's bath time. I ordered this as a spare to leave at her grandparents' house for when she stays over. I'm really impressed with this thermometer and we'll be keeping this one and sending the Philips to Grandma's instead. The thermometer is bigger and sturdier than I anticipated, but it floats well. What I particularly like is that if the temperature of the bath is below 32 degrees the word COLD appears on the display. If the temperature is above 39 degrees it flashes up the word HOT. This is a simple design feature, but it makes monitoring your little one's bath temperature much easier. As far as I can tell the thermometermonitors bath temperature accurately - I certainly haven't had any complaints from my little one. For £12.99 and a choice of blue or pink, I would consider this money well spent.

This is quite a large bath thermometer but the star fish shape means you can leave it floating around the bath as an additional bath toy and as it stays on for an hour (not sure what affect this will have on the battery life yet), you can keep an eye on the bath temperature for the length of your child's bathtime. The digital screen is easy to read and gives a warning if the bath is too hot or too cold. We've used a strip style thermometer up to now and it only shows a fairly small temperature range so it's nice to get an exact temperature even if we have run the bath too hot.All in all I like the product but have knocked off a star because you don't get to choose the colour you receive and asit comes in pink and blue I can see that people with boys might not want to order a product that has a 50% chance of coming in bright pink!

This has been used by my grandchildren one of which is only 1 which is why this is still an important product. We received pink, which doesn't bother us but may bother someone choosing a specific colour. The instructions are simple but dotted around the manual in a variety of languages which can make it difficult. The instructions for battery changes shows you need something like a nail file. The actual item is large and chunky and I as surprised it floated. The starfish shape is nice but I'd have preferred a slightly larger display. For a small bath like a baby bath this would take up a lot of space but if you're using a normal bath you'd be fine. The numbers go up or down according to thetemperature and it also flashes the words hot/cold as well.A neat reassurance for parents.

We like the fun starfish shape and smooth texture of this floating bath thermometer. I like the fact that it switches itself off after an hour to conserve battery; a quick, firm tap wakes up the device when you need to use it.The "Hot" and "Cold" warnings are nice and clear, and the temperature readings are consistent with an older water thermometer we have in our house, suggesting the calibration is sound. As a slight downside, the device is rather large and can get in the way if you're using it in a baby bath, meaning you'll probably have to take it out once the baby's in and therefore lose the ability to monitor the temperature whilst they're bathing. But that's a minor drawback in what is otherwise a perfectly decent and colourful thermometer for your little ones' bathtime.

Like some other parents I find it difficult to get the correct temperature for my daughters bath. It's either too cold or too hot (I have singed elbows to prove it). So I was extreamly keen to give the NUK digital bath thermometer a try. The star fish design is very appealing and it floats easily on water. It's waterproof so it doesn't matter if it gets too wet. There is a clear digital read out display which gives the temporature readings, there are also handy warnings if the water is either too hot or too cold. This thermometer does use batteries which are a little fiddly to change especially the thermometer is still wet. But this is a minor gripe, all in all this is an excellent piece of kit which helps parents avoid cooking or freezing their child in the bath. Thumbs up.

Pleased with this. We have had a previous digital bath thermometer (a duck) which was destroyed when the baby threw it into the empty bath, cracking it. This one is much more robust, in rubbery plastic, and seems almost indestructible; time will tell, of course, but so far it has been excellent. My (now) toddler is very keen and sees it as an additional bath toy, so it has been a universal success. She also understands that if the red light is flashing, it means she can't get into her bath yet (somehow has more of an impact than Mummy telling her the same thing...).I'll post again if it develops any flaws, but so far this is the best thermometer for the bath that we have discovered over 13 years of parenting.

This is a review of a Digital Bath Thermometer. The item comes well back with instructions on the back.Mine was pink in colour not blue as in the picture. At first I struggled to use this theremometer as the the instructions on the back and on a shhet inside are in very small print, There are also many different languages. But once figured out how easy to use ... all have to do is tap (hard) item against hand etc to switch it on. So far so good. The information states, better on sheet inside, that the maximum recommended temperature is 37c if the water is over 39c + there is an alert. Also is cold if it is below 32cTried in a bath... works fine. The thermometer switches off after an hour.Good useful item

Now I'll the first to admit I can't and have never been able to read a bath temperature with my elbow, my girlfriend will run a bath and to me it's scolding but a bath thermometer will say it's fine, so I always go digital, simply because my elbow must be faulty! This thermometer is quite chunky but sturdy and floats in the bath to get an accurate reading, it has a display on the top which gives you the basic info on wether it's too hot or cold and the actual temperature reading. It's not an overly complicated thermometer and won't offer do it with information but it does a solid job and the reading was on par with another different branded one we have.

This bath thermometer is very handy. It will help you ensure that the water in the bath isn’t too hot or too cold which can be incredibly handy when bathing both children and adults – especially when the person you are bathing cannot necessarily tell you that the water is too hot or cold. One suggestion is to ensure that you have “stirred” the water up so you get an average reading rather than one from either end of the bath.It is a nice little bath accessory with a good reason to use it and the display is superb. It will actually tell you that the water is “COLD” or “HOT” when it is below or above given temperatures.

On the page I ordered this from I was only shown the blue version so was surprised to receive a pink starfish. I think probably orange would be better for a starfish. You have to whack it again your hand to turn it on and then it operates for an hour showing you room and water temp. It says cold on the display when the bath is getting too chilly for baby. It's heavy, well made but it uses those horrible hard to find flat cr2032 batteries and is difficult to open. I have already damaged the White battery type plastic attempting opening it (you are advised to use a fork!).
