This Nikon W150 Camera fits into a sector where there’s competition from mobile phones as well as other big name pocket cameras – its primary selling point is the fact it’s waterproof to 10m/35ft and shockproof to just under 2m/6ft plus temperature resistant. In the box, you get a charging adaptor/lead, strap, cleaning brush, battery (EN-EL19) and a quick start guide. The W150 sports a 13.3MP CMOS sensor, 3x optical zoom which reaches 6x with digital zoom, electronic vibration reduction, LED flash, 200 shot battery life and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. A battery charge takes under two hours and will give you about 200 shots. The 2.7” screen is adequate but isn't high resolution at 230K pixels although visibility in bright light is reasonably good. The camera is intuitive to use thanks to the colourful menus and separate large buttons for pictures/video. Apart from the usual joystick type menu switch, there are 4 “flexible buttons” to the left of the screen which allow you to do a number of things including; altering camera settings; adding voice annotations to photographs; use creative borders/digital filters; select favourites etc. The system is easy to learn and works well and whilst this isn’t a camera where you can manually control exposure, aperture etc there are 18 scene modes.Picture quality is surprisingly decent and I’ve included a few samples with this review. The camera seems to cope with macro shots well and the 3x zoom is better than expected, although it isn’t always clear when you’re using the digital portion of the zoom. The flash is adequate but slightly prone to red-eye but that can be removed easily enough. Predictably the camera delivers lower quality results in low light conditions.Video footage at 1080P 30fps is quite good, although, the vibration reduction isn’t particularly strong, but as the camera doesn’t have a huge zoom capability holding it steady is easier. If complete steadiness is important the W150 has a traditional tripod screw mount. The autofocus works okay and is quite fast for the class of camera. I like the smile timer which waits to take the picture until it detects a person has smiled – it works a lot better than I imagined. The stereo sound is a novelty but like all cameras of this type it's a bit limited in sonic terms. The waterproofing seems fine to me, I’ve tested the camera underwater, but cameras of this type do need to be looked after properly, and when you first switch the camera on it will walk you through the things you need to do. One of my friends says it’s a good idea to store the camera with the battery door open to avoid compressing the silicone seal.Overall, especially if you need/like the toughness of this type of camera the W150 is worth a look, it offers simplicity of operation, quite a few extra features, and reasonable image quality at the price point.

I got this camera for my daughter to use as an alternative to her iPhone with the expectation that this would be a lot more robust (as it is waterproof and shockproof) and would take better quality pictures. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by it - I have long been a Canon man so Nikon is unfamiliar territory to me but it is easy to use and is intuitive. If I am honest, this camera is probably aimed more at kids than adults and it does trade some functionality in return for its robustness.Pros - It takes good pictures at decent 13.2MP quality; it is easy to use; it is compact; it is robust; it has a zoom; HD quality video; feels well made.Cons - The battery is small so life is farfrom amazing; no lens protector (just a plastic cover over the lens); the 3x optical zoom isn't that powerful in everyday use. This is a decent camera at a fair price but it has limitations and so just be aware of them - and be sure that you are happy to accept these in return for its waterproof / shockproof advantages - prior to purchase.

This is a brightly coloured little Camera, it looks nice in blue. Knowing the selling points are that it is waterproof and dustproof, I did not expect much in the area of image quality. It turns out, it does take clean vibrant images with good shallow depth of field. Even indoors the pictures are good. Menus are easy to use and their are presets that anyone can use it. I prefer manual settings though.Smartphones nowadays are very capable, so what is the reason for a Camera like this one? Well because this tough Canmera can be used in extremely harsh conditions where normal Cameras risk damage. We have been coming from holidays without any underwater footage or photos, as our Cameras could not go underwater. This Camera changes that.N/BI wonder why it does not come with the UK Charger, instead it comes with the EU two-prong Charger that is not very user-friendly.
