This Nikon Coolpix is an excellent 'bridge' camera - intended for high quality photography, but at a reasonable price. It has a fantastic 20 megapixel sensor, and an amazing 28x optical zoom (about equivalent to a 600mm lens). This means that you're able to take detailed shots from quite some distance, while retaining great resolution. And at £100 this camera is a real bargain.I have a Nikon DSLR - that cost quite a lot more - and, while I'm able to attach different lenses to create a more desired shot, I have to say that there's very little difference between that DSLR and this bridge camera in terms of the final result. So, unless you're intending to specialise in a particular area of photography that requires a range of lenses,I recommend this Nikon Coolpix. It has a good sized 3" LCD display. It's easy to use, and comes with everything you need to start taking excellent digital photos (aside from an SD card - so do remember to buy one). You can also record HD video on this camera.Yet, it's not perfect (but what do you expect for approx. £100?). Not being a DSLR, they're opted not to include a viewfinder ... and this means you have to rely on the LCD screen. However, a viewfinder is very useful (as looking through it, while holding the camera with two hands close to your eye, does often result in a steadier shot). Also, it takes standard batteries - rather than a dedicated camera battery - and, if you're shooting at 20MP then you'll probably eat through batteries very quickly. Finally, you can't attach a separate flashgun (as there's no hot shoe) - but the built-in flash is very good.Overall, this is an excellent bridge camera - especially for photographers who wish to advance from a more basic digital model, without spending a lot of money on a DSLR. Ultimately, it's about the photos you can take ... and this Coolpix is able to produce some stunning images. Given that it's very easy to use, and is capable of producing high-quality photos, I think this is one of the best cameras around for £100.

I bought this for myself and my partner we both have an interest in taking photos we're not experienced but like to have fun taking pictures of wildlife or landscapes. My phone can take quite nice photos but there are times I need a much longer reach and we didn't want to spend a lot on a camera so picked this up.In most ways it's a very simple camera to use relatively few modes and quick access to the most of the settings it won't confuse users straight forward operation. In the box you get:4 x AA alkaline batteriesLens cap and a cord to attach itUSB cable and strapIt's nice to have the batteries included but you will get much more shots from good quality rechargeable cells we have a lotaround so use them and keep the included ones as a spare set.Main appeal of this was the big 28x zoom lens this gives a field of view over 600mm equivalent for a larger camera, I was concerned about shaky images but this model does have lens based vibration reduction which helps quite a lot keeping shots steady and the wider end is really wide more than most compacts I've used (I think it's about 22mm). Close up shots are also possible as it can get as close as 1cm mid way though the range. Images are quite good for the price I'm quite pleased with the results both photos and video you couldn't get this range out of a phone or tablet camera. There are times I miss not having a viewfinder as this would help to hold it steadier the focus can be a little slow in dim lighting it's quite good in daylight, still it's a really nice camera that doesn't cost a lot but the large zoom range makes it a very flexible choice. Just remember to get a good set of batteries we get over 500 shots per charge it's about half that with cheap disposable cells.

I bought this to replace a much more expensive Canon which didn't survive exposure to salt water. I've now carried it around the Caribbean on a two week holiday and I'm pretty please with the results.I found myself using the adjustable settings a lot, rather than just leaving it in Auto as I did with it's predecessor: I found this much easier to do as the controls fall under the thumb and are pretty intuitive, I soon learned to make the most common adjustments without really thinking about them. Low light pictures are pretty good so I rarely used the flash, when I did use it, it worked as well as you'd expect for a camera at this price point. I love the fact that it runs on AA batteries, rather than a bespoke battery which leaves you stranded if you have a problem in the field, and this was one of the reasons I chose this camera.Other features I like -The huge 28x zoom rangeChoice of time-stamping pictures with "Home" time or an easily adjusted local "travel destination" timeUses a readily available full size SD cardI'm still trying to get my head round panorama assist, and like most cameras of this type the Auto Focus LED seems to be placed in the worst spot for accidentally getting your fingers in front of it, but this is an excellent camera for the price and I am very pleased with my purchase.

I know little about photography; what I like about this camera is that it allows for that. If you want to point and shoot, you can. If you want to explore some of the functions and experiment, you can. Lightweight, small enough to be carried around / stuffed into a backpack.I bought it to allow for mega-zoom nature shots when you come across wildlife. Really pleased with how that's been going so far.Bought it with a memory card. Transference onto laptop absolutely no problems; swift.I did have AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE trying to close the battery / memory card cover. Absolutely fine once I got the hang of it but for a period I was terrified I was going to bust the mechanism. That's one thing to be aware of.Glad to say all's well with that and am happy to give the product 5 stars.

I bought this Camera for my wife to use, as it is one of the easier Bridge Cameras with simple controls, and it is a step up from her Coolpix S3100 compact camera., The L340 has a number of different modes, but too many to confuse the newcomer to Bridge Cameras. It enjoys 20 megapixels, which ensures good picture quality. It has a 3 inch viewing screen and a good range zoom. My wife is looking forward to using it on our European breaks. The 4AA Batteries, which are supplied fit under a cover where you fit the Memory card (not supplied). Although this model has been replaced, it is still a good buy.

This camera is fantatsic! My 14 year old daughter chose it with her birthday money as she is a budding photographer and wanted to practice on something better than an IPhone! She loves it and has taken beautiful pictures with it. It came with everything we needed to set her up, great quality batteries which is nice as you often get cheap ones that don't last. The wrist and neck straps are great and fit her perfectly - really would recommend this camera for someone who wants to take more than the usual photos - I will try and get her to upload some of her excellent pics! Thank you!!

Fantastic camera for the price(£100 when I bought it). I have no special photography experience/knowledge but have wanted a camera that can give me those professional looking photos. Of course this does not match up to a more expensive camera but I wouldn't know how to use those! This let's me point and shoot and gives great results. I got some excellent close up photos of birds and people, with high detail focus on the subject and the background blurred, exactly what I wanted. This also has a extraordinary zoom with good stabilisation. I'm really impressed

As good as one should expect and good value when under a hundred pounds.Size, weight, features are all good for a budget camera like this. Yes, auto-mode / scene select is one of multiple features that respond relatively sluggishly. Like most cameras that don't have significant external additional lighting options, the flash will only help a little at close range. But, keep the camera clean and use in good natural light as much as possible and you'll see good pics for the money.

Bought this camera as my daughter broke my previous Nikon . This one however is a massive step up. So far very impressed with ease of use / handling, its comfortable and ideal for what I need it for - have a holiday coming up so will be taking some great shots. I was under the impression after reading reviews before i purchased that camera had good memory facility. I only took maybe a dozen photos and it was full?? so have now purchased a 32 GB Memory card, so hopefully all set.

Brilliant camera, received it yesterday as an 18th birthday present. Hope to use it for personal photos and social media?? I'd say it's a great camera for beginners looking for a step up from their phone. Would advise reading the manual before attempting to use it as quiality may appear bad at first but once you learn to focus and adjust the setting according to your shot, your photos will turn out 10x better ?

Nice little starter camera for the price my personal pro's/con's:Pros: Cheap, 20.48mp, easy to use zoom, great flash, digital displayCon's: No view finder, Auto focus can be a bit of a painThe camera does have some basic features for on the go editing on the camera such as: Changing the exposure, selected filters and some fine detailing. Overall a nice little camera and at a great price.

Great piece of kit, solid compared to the last two bridge cameras I have had and easy to use. Good value, quality camera. Previous bridge cameras I had had a manual viewfinder as well as a screen. This has not proved a problem so far but have not had really bright sunlit conditions yet. Was VERY well packaged and arrived promptly. Would use trader again and recommend them to others.

This is the first camera from Nikon I have purchased, and boy for the price I was impressed. The image quality is fantastic, easy to use and a cracking zoom feature. It may not have all the bells and whistles, although considering its less than £150, you cannot complain. Battery life is impressive too.Downside; battery/SD card compartment is finicky. Full zoom is blurry.

13.7.2018

Works as advertised. Battery lasts indefinitely long even when one uses it for extended periods of time. (I haven't changed batteries simce I bought it in the first quarter of 2017.)As for the picture quality, it is about right what one would expect from a Point-and-shoot camera which are: quality pictures in good natural lighting; and automatic exposure settings.

9.4.2020

Great camera. Ignore the reviews regarding bad picture quality and focus. People don't know how to use the camera. Although it's a ridge camera you can play with the features and refocus before each shot by half holding the shoot button. This will refocus even when on full zoom. NO CAMERA PHONE WILL MATCH THIS CAMERA IF IT IS USED PROPERLY!
