I bought this after trawling through all the different shampoos for seb dermatitis. mine had flared up big time over the few days previous & my scalp was beginning to drive me batty, pulling & twisting. I also symptoms on my face, ears & neck that were worsening rapidly. This condition is a horrible one, aside from looking like a glue sniffer, the pain is horrendous, the sensations on my skin make my nerves weak, it’s embarrassing, I worry about it worsening & stops me living my normal life. With that, I have struggled to find anything at all for my face or scalp that is in anyway helpful or beneficial to this condition. Even the more expensive products are all a complete waste of money & hope. After looking for a shampoo, I decided On this because it was the only shampoo that was fairly priced & it had some good reviews. When I applied it to my scalp & lathered it up, my poor head breathed a sigh of relief. Though it says don’t use to wash face etc like with some shampoos, I did use a little to wash my forehead & sides of my face which was also relieving. I left the shampoo on for about 10 minutes & then washed off & repeated the process. It was such a relief to have the shampoo on my head, I could have happily left it there & got on with my day but I washed it off. I was soon back to feeling itchy, tight & pully. my face got worse & areas became painful & ugly but that not bro g the shampoos fault. have lots of hair, it’s thick & frizzy. It’s been dry & knotty it weeks now. I have used the shampoo for 5 days now, though I feel no huge difference, washing my hair with it still gives some relief & once dried there are flakes around my hair line which I suppose is a good sign, at least things are starting to move off my scalp. My hair is also softer & isn’t knotting up as much. The market for shampoos, creams & treatments for conditions like this is just endless & so ridiculously priced, all aimed at desperate people looking to clear up a problem they’re struggling to control & putting hope into every single one of them only to be let down & out of pocket. I have a cupboard full of half full bottles of shampoo & pots of creams that ive used a couple of times. I decided to stop all of that & just take it back to basics in the hope that keeping things simple & less stressful would make a difference. This shampoo isn’t too dear & does offer some relief if only for the time it’s actually on your head. I’m going to stick with it for a while in the hope that not keep chopping & changing things will be beneficial & because it does seem to be losening things on my head a little. But mainly because I’m tired of looking for & spending money on overpriced treatments etc that do nothing other than make you feel like you’re running out of options. This condition is stressful enough. After washing with Neutrogena I use a tiny bit of conditioner on the ends of my hair with a few drops of clary sage or geranium essential oil in as they are both good for this condition.

I am so thankful I tried this product!! I had very bad Dermatitis on my scalp which was causing sores and my hair to fall out from the follicle due to the stress. I was looking for a product which would remove the flakes without inflaming my scalp further and it is very effective. It is even more effective when used with other products and preventative measures. For those suffering from an inflamed scalp particularly Psoriasis or Dermatitis here is my own treatment plan which I have had much success with (Please note I am not a doctor);-Use Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo a few times a week to remove the worst of the flakes (It really helps shift them- I had big painful patches of thesewhich were hardened lumps of skin and after 2 applications I already see a BIG difference)-I used steroid (hydrocortisone) cream on the worst patches of skin once hair is dry (Dry on a cooler heat so not to irritate the scalp. Or let your hair dry naturally for as long as possible)-I apply hemp oil to my whole scalp at night (make sure its organic and cold pressed preferably) and wear a hair net (shower cap, wig cap etc will do)The hemp oil takes the itch away straight away. The hair net allows your scalp to breathe but keeps it moist and warm so that the hemp oil can soothe your scalp overnight. You will need a net otherwise the hemp oil could stain your pillowcases. Apply the hemp oil mask at night a few times a week or whenever you need to. Its easiest at night as it will leave your hair extremely oily, although if in discomfort apply during the day also.-In the morning wash the hair with the Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo. It recommends doing this 2-3 times a week on the bottle and will remove more of the excess Hemp Oil from the evening before.Tips:~Don't use steroid cream for too long as it can thin your skin.~Patch test the Hemp Oil if you have not used it before and leave behind your ear for 48 hours prior to test for a reaction. You do not have to dilute it and it is a safe product to use.~Don't use Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo too often as it will dry your hair out. Use it 3 times a week.~I use Dr Bronner'S Baby Castile Liquid Soap in between shampoos which doesn't irritate my scalp. It is the gentlest shampoo I have found so far.~If you have dry ends from the use of the Neutrogena T/Gel then Apple cider vinegar is a good substitute for chemical conditioners, so is coconut oil. Apply after you have washed the shampoo out.~Avoid alcohol and citrus based shampoos which can irritate your scalp further.~Avoid colouring your hair when you are going through a flare- it will only make it worse.~Your diet can also have a big impact on your health - your skin is your biggest organ!I hope this helps someone suffering from these!Helen :)

Some years ago I started developing an unpleasantly itchy scalp, combined with slightly flaking and dandruff. The problem appeared exacerbated in the warmer months, when the sun would warm up my head (I had very short hair at the time) and make the itching that much more noticeable.Rather than heading to the doctor, I bought a bottle of the very well-known anti-dandruff shampoo from Boots and used this for a week. Unfortunately, that stuff (even diluted) was too harsh for my skin and I quickly noticed a burning sensation on my head, both during washing and afterwards. So, back to Boots I went and bought a bottle of T/Gel,mainly because I remember seeing adverts for it on TV rather than any recommendation from a friend or family member. As other reviewers have commented, T/Gel is a thick brown substance with a smell that’s more ‘chemical factory’ than it is ‘summer fruits’, but that just affirms that this isn’t an everyday shampoo for amazing shine and generous volume. In fact, T/Gel isn’t supposed to be used every day but only two or three times a week – although it’s definitely much less harsh on my scalp than the other brand, I’ve tried it more regularly and it can still cause some discomfort if over-used, so I’ve found that three times a week is about right for me.The important thing with T/Gel is to leave it in to work, up to 10 minutes if at all possible; the longer you leave it, the more chance it has to do its thing. Following my regimen, I didn’t get the “instant effect” some people seem to have been able to achieve, but after a couple of weeks my scalp irritation cleared up and with it so did the dandruff. No more itching, no more flaking and definitely no more dandruff!Around 5 years on, and the problems I once had seem almost a distant memory. I say ‘almost’, because I’m still using T/Gel to this day – every time I use up a bottle and don’t replace it, said problems come back within a couple of weeks. I’m resigned to the fact that I’ll probably be using T/Gel for the rest of my life (or at least while I still have hair) but that’s really no hardship given that I’d be washing anyway. And I‘ve actually grown to love that funky smell!

This stuff is really good. I first came across it because my sister started getting really bad Psoriasis on her scalp, and she started using this (not sure, but the Doctor might have prescribed it). Anyway, a few years later, for some reason, I started to develop and really itchy scalp, and when I'd scratch it loads or dead skin/dandruff/minging white stuff would fall out my hair.Just think 'Snow-globe'.It was pretty upsetting to be honest as I'd never suffered from anything like it before - and I must have been in my mid to late 20s at the time. Anyway - one day my mate pointed it out or made a comment or something and I thought ' right, that's it! - I've got to get this sorted'and I remembered the odd smelling tar shampoo my sister had in the shower when we all lived at home.Cue trip to Boots.I swear down, I used it once and my problem has never come back. Now, it might not be as affective for everyone, but for me it worked a treat. The stuff is odd. It smells fowl, looks disgusting and the bright yellow banner screaming 'Treats itchy, flakey scalps' can be a bit embarrassing when you're in the supermarket with the pretty girl at the check-out... but it's worth it, because what are you going to do if you meet her on a Saturday night, in the club, under the UV lights! The stuff is made of tar or something I think and smells like it too - no coconut essence or summer peach scent here - and it's thick and gloopy too. But it lathers up well, you only need a small amount, and you soon get used to it's strange smell. Besides, once it's rinsed out, you can't smell it at all.Instruction say to apply it, lather it up, leave it for 7 minutes, rinse and repeat - but I just wash my hair as normal and then leave it to soak into my noggin while I wash the rest of my body. Then I just rinse it off and I'm good to go.Seriously - if you have problems with your scalp I would recommend giving this stuff a go. You have to try it. I doubt there's anything out there more effective.

I have very coarse thick dry hair, but suffer with scalp psoriasis. I also swim every other day and although i wear a swim cap quite often the chlorinated water manages to get through to my scalp. I'd always used head and shoulders and although it was kinder to my hair, my scalp was in such a mess and itchy. I'd had products from the gp, but he always said to try and reduce your stress level which will help. Easier said than done when your caring for your elderly mum and father in law and your daughter who has epilepsy!!! Earlier this year after both my mum and father in law passed away within 10 days of each other my scalp was in such a mess but was the least of my problems. My friend came to visit me with a bottle of wine and a bottle of T Gel, she also suffered with scalp psoriasis and had told me about it before but i never got round to buying it.Within a few days of use my scalp felt so much better, the constant itching had also reduced. I kept using it but the trouble i found was my dry hair was even worse. After leaving a hair treatment mask on my hair afterwards that soon sorted that problem.Fast forward 6 months, i am still swimming every other day and caring for my daughter, I also suffer stress in other areas of my life but i use my T Gel every time after swimming, i also leave a good amount of conditioner on my hair for 2 minutes afterwards and I now have very few scalp outhursts. It isn't the nicest smelling of shampoos and without the conditioner i dread to think what my hair would look like, but it works wonders for my scalp and removes the chlorine from my hair. Amazon is selling it so much cheaper than the shops and it is delivered to my home if i'm unable to get to the shops. If you have dandruff or scalp psorisis i can highly recommend this and wouldn't go back to head and shoulders or any of the traditional shampoos. Thank you T Gel.

I can only write almost the same review here as I did in case of Nizoral Shampoo. I did try the Neutrogena shampoo for a while (as it was the case with Nizoral) and it did help slightly at the beginning. However it didn't fully help to control my dandruff. After a few weeks of using it, I still had the same problem with dandruff as I had before (it got a bit better but the dandruff was still there). So the product did work - but not exactly as I was expecting (it doesn't mean that the product is not good at all -> it only means that my body reaction to it was a bit different than most people).I can also repeat here what I've already written in the other review (of Nizoral product)- if you are interested: what has helped me at the end was... coconut oil (and lauric acid & capric acid present in coconut oil are great antimicrobial agents). Yes, plain and simple coconut oil. I've started with fractionated coconut oil, which doesn't contain lauric acid but some of others fatty acids present in coconut oil are apparently good anti dandruff agents. One day I was putting it on my hair few minutes before washing and the next day I was adding it to my hair conditioner. At the end I was using a little bit of pure virgin coconut oil, which I've started to massage into my scalp and hair. I'm sure if you do your own search you will find a lot of information about above (or how to use it), so there is no point of repeating that here. Not sure if it helps you - but maybe it's something worth trying. Who knows, I know it helped me (and there are no chemicals involved as this is natural oil). If it won't work, you can always use it for cooking or for your skin.Anyway, this was a good product -> not perfect but good enough (after all it did helped a bit).I'm taking one star off as it didn't fully solve my problem, but then again, I did notice a slight improvement.

Sorry it is a long one but i cannot praise this shampoo enough. A little while ago i suddenly started to get a seriously dry itchy head. I tried so many things but shampoos and products just seemed to make it worse. I was scratching that much i was leaving little cuts on my head and driving myself insane. Fast forward a few weeks and a friend recommended i try this shampoo, i wasn't holding out much hope to be honest and the 1st time i smelt it, oh boy, lets just say i wasn't a fan and thought i would be binning it after 1 try haha. However one shower later and my hair had never felt so squeaky clean, the smell soon went away as my hair dried and to my surprise it had stopped all of my itching. You do actually get instant relief from the 1st time using it, i was so impressed. It may seem a little expensive compared to other cheaper brands/ supermarket shampoos etc but this is the cheapest ive found it and a little really does go a long way. My hair is thick and very long, it is down to my bottom and my 1st bottle has just finished tonight and ive had it since the end of February so over 2 months (if your hair is shorter than mine then it will last even longer) and so it is actually really good value and medically/itch wise, it truly is worth its weight in gold and more. My hair also stays cleaner for longer using this and so i get an extra day out of my hair now before i need to wash it again, (usually about 3/4 days whereas before it was more like every 2 days). I wouldn't use anything else now. Give it a try and i promise you won't be disappointed. The relief is unreal. 5 stars from me.

For those of us who suffer from itchy scalps if you have to use hair products such as mousse or hairspray or a reaction to colouring/perming solutions, this is definitely my go-to product to clear up my scalp and calm it down. I actually like the coal tar smell of the TGel, it’s fresh and clean and reminds me of my grandma who used to use the soap, but it’s effect is what is most important. I react badly with many perfumes and hair products with rashes and breakouts in my skin and so try to avoid many, but have always been able to rely upon TGel to calm everything back down and heal my scalp. But it HAS become really expensive to buy and although you only need to use it a few times in succession to get the healing effect,it is expensive. But you have to consider that it IS a medication not just a shampoo so what is it worth to you to put your problem right. Usually, it resolves my problem in about 1/3 to 1/2 of a bottle. What I found here, is a TRIPLE pack of the largest size 250ml bottle, for the normal price of two so it was a no brainer for me so now I have a reserve stock for whenever I’m unfortunate to need it’s remedy. If you suffer the same skin reactions to chemicals as I do, give this a try, your scalp will certainly thank you for it.

This works well and I love it, though leaves your head with a faint smell of tar or wood stain.During periods of severe stress at work I get these itchy spots on my head where red spots and flakes form. It’s not really dandruff in my case and this occurs really only every two years. By now I learned to order a bottle of T-Gel and take a cure for 6 weeks, washing my hair every 2 or 3 days with a copious dot of this curious shampoo/gel.It simply works; after 3 washings I feel the relief even when I had a severe episode all over my head. While not cheap I don’t think the gel is expensive for an effective treatment.Yes the drawback is that is smells luck diesel oil oil/woodstain.But don’t think it is a bad smell and have gown to appreciate it. You can wash you hair afterward with regular shampoo, which do not tend to do, to keep a maximum effect. Also it seems I’m the only one smelling in. I’ve never had suggestions when using the shampoo that there was a tar smell. I smell it more when my head warms up due to exercise or excitement. But again,I think the smell is a smal small drawback if al all , for something that gets ris of a visual imperilment and annoying discomfort. So as a regular, you can trust my advice on this.

I have tried lots of different shampoos for dandruff and itchy scalp but none have ever solved the problem permanently like this has.The bottle might seem expensive for the quantity of shampoo you get but I find that only a small amount if required to wash a full head of hair. It also has a strong, chemical smell that is not at all enticing. But who cares if it works. My first time with it I shampooed my hair twice with it, as per the instructions on the bottle. I still had dandruff but found the itchy scalp that I had had reduced somewhat.Three days later I shampooed my hair with it again, leaving it on for 5 minutes (as the bottle instructs) and then conditioned with a normal supermarket conditioner.Since then I have had no dandruff at all and my scalp is no longer itchy. Combining it with a conditioner takes away the chemically smell and makes your hair feel like normal, dandruff-free, conditioned hair.I will continue to use this as my normal shampoo over the next few weeks and eventually alternate it with a normal shampoo so that I prolong the usage of the bottle. But it is absolutely worth it the price. I understand it will not be effective for everyone but it worked for me.

I have been suffering with plaque psoriasis on the back of my head for maybe about a yr now, on & off, but not really knowing what it was until now. It would come, then go, but it has been a nightmare for a number of months now, & persistently getting worse, & spreading. I tried numerous products, but none really worked, until now. With research, & being able to actually pinpoint what it is, with symptoms, rather than bothering the doctor, it was suggested that T Gel was very good at treating these scalp conditions because of the coal tar content. I had nothing to lose, as next step would have to be a visit to doctors otherwise, so I bought a bottle 2 days ago, to give it a try.I know miracles don't happen overnight, but I can already feel the difference the shampoo has made in just the 2 days of usage, it has calmed the inflamed, sore, raw feeling, & actually seems to be reducing the spots already. The notable downside, as has been mentioned is the smell of the shampoo, it smells like a fresh road that has been tarmacked, but it is a small price to pay if it gives the results. I just wish I hadn't buried my head in the sand for so long, & suffered in silence, & gave this a try sooner.

I have used T/Gel for my scalp psoriasis for the past 20 years. It is available to purchase without prescription and it really works on my dry and scaly scalp. The shampoo is quite a thick gel like product which is brown/green in colour.T/Gel contains coal tar extract which is great for my psoriasis. The shampoo should be left on the scalp for a few minutes before rinsing to ensure that the treatment has time to work.T/Gel seems to help my open sores and scabs to heal more quickly and it moisturises my scalp resulting in less dandruff. The shampoo causes a stinging pain when applied to open sores, but this is no worse than the application of other shampoo products. The shampoo cleans my hair much like a regular shampoo.I have a bottle of T/Gel open all of the time and use it multiple times every week and especially when my psoriasis is flaring. I occasionally use a normal shampoo just as a change but my psoriasis will become worse without regular treatment with T/Gel.The coal tar extract in T/Gel has a distinctive odour which remains in my hair long after washing. I really don't mind the coal tar odour but it may be off-putting for people who prefer more flowery scented shampoos.

You all pretty well know what this shampoo does, how well it works, etc., so I’m not going to regurgitate all that stuff in this review. We know it’s great, yammer yammer yammer ?. What I will tell you is how surprised I was when I got the box and pulled out what seemed to me to be an enormous bottle especially given the price I paid for it. I’ve gone into my local pharmacy and paid more for a bottle half the size of the one I’m holding in my hand right now. Even the cut rate box store that’s in every town across this great nation of ours can’t compete with the price on the shampoo. I honestly poured some into my hand just to check and see if it had been watered down (you know like your teen kids do when they raid yours or someone else’s liquor cabinet when your not home. This all in the hope you won’t noticed that your liquor tastes like you grabbed an unwashed shot glass and used it to get a drink of water.) Well enough rambling here. If u use it, like it, if it does the job you need it to, buy it, if you want the best price for the amount you get, buy it here from Amazon. Best price vs quantity I’ve found.

I seemed to develop what I assume to be seborrheic dermatitis almost overnight. I have absolutely no idea what has caused it but my head has been horrendously itchy, with an almost constant burning sensation and horrific yellow welts all over my scalp. These were really painful and I was very self conscious as to whether other people would notice. As it's not possible to see a doctor at the moment, I decided to buy this in the hope it would bring some relief. It's not cheap and it doesn't smell particularly pleasant (a medicinal, almost chemical smell as opposed to sinking your head into a rotting corpse, which is what one might be led to believe from some of the negative reviews i.e.it's really not that bad.). After only one use it has (at least temporarily) got rid of the scabs on my scalp and the itching sensation has greatly reduced. I'm hoping this is something which will subside over time but I will continue to use it this shampoo a couple of times a week as advised. Personally I'd rather my hair smelled a bit clinical as opposed to having a head covered in painful scabs but perhaps that's just me!

I have never ever write any review of a product so far but this one made me do it. I am amazed by the effect, moreover because I have experienced a persistent atopic dermatitis or whatever skin condition it was for the past 15 years!!! Even after first application of this shampoo I was able to see slight improvement. My scalp used to peeled severely, it looked more like a dandruff but very tenacious one. I have tried so many things before, even with medical prescription but without a result. I have followed the instructions on the product box and have used the shampoo for good 3 weeks now so that I can rate it deservedly. Also have been applying Night Repair Serum from Estee Lauder on the scalp for couple of days to boost the result but in general the whole job has been done by this amazing shampoo! The smell is a bit unpleasant but can’t compare with other that I have already tried and were even worst. The additional benefit is that the product has made my hair super shiny and strong. So overall, highly recommend the product for people who suffer from unknown skin scalp condition. It really helps!!!!
