I remember as a young teenager using products like this and the god awful Sun-in to try lifting my dark blonde-mousey hair back to its platinum lightness that I had as a child before giving into dye. This is a product that has potential for brightening lighter hair if you have a realistic mindset. It's not going to bleach your locks, it's also not going to shift your hair more than one shade lighter unless coupled with another product. What it will do is over time help to lift the environmental dulling agents and encourage the translucence in fairer hair to be blonder than mousey by using sifter natural lighteners, but of course they won't be very effective thanks to the short amount of time that the shampoo stays on your hair.In our house we tried this on myself and once on my daughter (there were no irritations or reactions) who wanted to be like mummy and helped herself (I underestimated her reach) and it certainly brightens blonde hair especially if you live in a hardwater area. It's not like using a purple toner to shift yellowing or brassy tones, more like removing agents that dull the glow of blonde hair such as hardwater and other environmental effects. At the point of testing I have a year's growth of never been dyed mousey roots (thanks to baby) and previously dyed mid blonde lengths and ends, using this product I have lifted tones across the board, but not suddenly platinum, it's more like a brightness and 'iridescence' returned to the hair. My daughters mid blonde has brightened strands that seem as if single strands of tinsel or glittered threads are distributed through her hair. The downside (if that) is it is a little more drying than your average shampoo, not to the degree of damage but the hair felt slightly rougher than usual texture In between rinsing and conditioning, but a good conditioner is enough to combat and no continuing dryness.Basically if you think this will lift your hair more than a tone or lighten significantly, you're mistaken but if you have paler hair anyway (mouse to light blonde) this will remove environmental dulling agents fro, your hair and restore the sparkle that blonde hair has contributing to a lighter look to your hair, so is great for those who live in a hard water area or area of pollution.

Well..... ive just used this for the first time....ive been unlucky in the fact that my hair dressers appointments have been every lock down!!... can ya believe it!!! In the non covid days I used to have half a head of highlights and a cut and blow dry....This lockdown my roots are really baaaad and so dark!!! I was desperate and ordered this stuff...then read all the bad reviews!! I very nearly chucked it in the bin after reading all the bad stuff! But also in a sick and stupid way thought.....what the hell ive been made redundant, im in a lockdown.....whats the worst that could happen?! So just went along with it...OMG I'm so pleased I did,ive only applied this spray once and it has already made my roots blend in and my hair brighter and its still soft and in great condition!! Im assuming that the bad reviews are due to people using poor quality shampoos and conditioners and perhaps getting a little spray happy, before use a week ago I left olaplex 3 on my hair for about 6 hours then made sure before I used this spray that I washed my hair with a moisturising shampoo (Sebastian penetrate) and then the same brand conditioner but left this on towel dried hair for about an hour before washing out, then applied the spray on the roots then used a tangle treezer brush to distribute through my hair....I had no idea what I was doing but just blagged it....then got the hair dryer out ( I never normally blow dry always leave to dry naturally then use the straighteners) and just dried away.....once dried got the good ol ghds out!.....I can not believe the difference after one go I am so chuffed! Im going to leave it a week then do the same again then I genuinely think that's all I will need!! I think if you use good hair products and your hair genuinely lightens normally in the sun then this will absolutely work for you.... if your hair is in poor condition and your are worried about it from looking at reviews don't do it!

I was nervous to buy this having read some horrible reviews about serious hair damage, but went ahead and got it anyways due to the amount of positive ones. It does lighten you hair because it has hydrogen peroxide in so this is not some 'natural' hair lightener. You are putting chemicals on your hair so this is not to be overlooked and comes with risks. This product has worked for me, but I have been very careful about using it. I have highlighted blonde hair and wanted something to touch up the roots which is what this product is designed for. I spray the product onto less than half an inch of hair regrowth when wet and let it dry naturally.I have been using it once a week for about a month and it has lightened my regrowth noticeably although I have let my regrowth also be exposed to sunlight during this time so it may be a combination of the two. The packaging clearly states that this product is designed for those with highlighted blonde hair wanting to touch up re-growth. The product states that it should not be sprayed on more than 1 inch of hair and should be sprayed onto the regrowth from the root. It should not be used more than 10 times in between highlighting. I would not recommend this product to anyone with darker hair or someone just looking to go a bit blonde because it was not designed for that and could lead to serious issues like many people have written about. I would be cautious about using the product back to back day after day to avoid damage to the hair. The first time I used the product I felt a burning sensation on my scalp which is probably due to my sensitive skin. The 2nd time using it I felt nothing, but this should be noted. This product will work if you use it sparingly and as directed, but does have risks.

Not wanting to have roots or expensive upkeep, this spray in lightener brightens and lightens my long fine dark blonde hair to a more blonde shade without being obvious that I've done any enhancement. Hair feels nice and light, and easy to detangle after use. I've not noticed any increased damage to my hair, although my preference day to day is to let hair air-dry, I blow dry on occasions I use this or want to look nice. There is no offensive smell when using this product, it does not sting my hands despite them having contact dermatitis. I find I only need to apply the product all over the roots of my head, using a comb to create partings which I then spray. I brush through to the ends, but don't apply the spray to the ends themselves at all, as they are quickest to lighten anyway and the product reaches them with towel-dried hair once the roots are saturated anyway (despite hair being long enough to reach mid-back). I haven't had any problems when swimming with hair changing colour. I find the shampoos are not necessary to use alongside this spray; I prefer to use a natural shampoo due to my sensitive skin. The lightening effects of this spray are subtle and good to use monthly to have a lighter brighter blonde all year without appearing obvious that it has been lightened and to keep hair looking healthy.

This shampoo and conditioner duo from John Frieda work well together if used according to the instructions. The two products comes in pump action salon style bottle each containing a full 500 ml so this represents decent value for money. The shampoo is a rich liquid texture with a pleasant light citrus fragrance and offers a moderate lather. It works by very gradually reducing the pigment in your hair and can be used on natural or dyed hair. Hair feels cleansed and manageable after use. As far as the colour is concerned what you notice after a period of washes is a gradually lightening of the hair which is more noticeable along the length of the individual strands rather than at the root.although the shampoo is a light shade of yellow this is not the tint that transfers to your hair thank goodness. However, what is crucial is that after shampooing that you then condition your hair well so it is great to have a matching conditioner. This is a very nice product with the same yellow colour, but a rich mousse-like texture which really nourishes to the root and gives strength and shine to your hair. The two products can be used daily and are peroxide free which used together will give a lightening blonde effect over time whilst cleansing and treating your hair effectively at the same time.

Yes this says it’s for blondes, and I have light brown hair with a few strands of dark blonde, and I wanted that sun kissed surfer dude look, so I used it, but I stead of lightening my hair to various degrees based on the current various degrees of blond, all I got a dirty orange blond look and all strands became the same colour. It’s as if it coloured my hair to one colours, when I expected some strands to be brighter and some darker (but all lighter than before). You expect with a lightning product as this is not meant to be an actual dye. I Hate it. I have had much better success simply using lemon juice before, which lightened my own light brown/blond hair further and also making some of the strands blonder, basically still retaining a sun kissed look. Really this seems more like a hair dye then a hair lightening product. Won’t use again and will stick to basic lemon juice myself, but for those people who already have blond hair this gets 5 stars (I let my neighbour try it who already has blond streaks and she looks awesome). Finally, I know what it’s like to feel indecisive when buying or comparing products, so If you found my review helpful please mark it as such, as I really enjoy knowing my reviews helped other people make an informed decision.

Just into my 50's I can no longer ignore the fact that my hair, which was always a very light, bright natural blonde, is now more of a mousy brown colour. White, grey or silver I consider interesting and could have easily lived with, but dull and mousy? No way!!!!I don't want to do anything too dramatic or start visiting hairdressers but I do need to get on top of this dowdiness in such a way as to accomodate future root growth. What I do needs to be subtle and build up slowly over time to keep things looking as natural as possible until the white, grey, silver starts to come through... hopefully! This lemon and chamomile based shampoo, with an occasional boost from the lightening spray is the best answer I can find. Most products for blonde hair are designed to maintain bleached hair, ie they have UV protection to stop brassiness, which is the last thing I need! It's either this or move to somewhere permanently sunny!UPDATEHaving used this for a few weeks now I am noticing brighter highlights appearing. In those weeks I have only cheated once with the spray (in the first week). I'm impressed at getting results without much resort to unnatural methods so I have now purchased the Go Blonder conditioner too.;-D

I just brought this and started to use it so can't comment quite yet on how much it will lighten my hair. I'm using it inbetween bleaches, as I am going blonde from black dyed. I'm currently that ginger-gold, so wanted something more gentle and cheap while I give my hair a break from bleach.First off, it contains peroxide. So yes, it is going to damage your hair. I imagine it won't damage it half as bad as using bleach, however, excess blow drying with this product would increase the damage. So while it's summer, try and use the sun instead (to be honest you can actually get UV hair protection spray so, not sure if it's any better then a blow dry,but I know straighteners and blow drying is definitely bad for your hair). It does smell of peroxide. Maybe less when used on wet hair, so far I've only used it on dry hair while in the sun and I can smell it immediately. It does pass after a while but the faint smell is still there.Lastly, my friends use this on themselves and their kids to keep them blonde-r then they already are and swear by it, so I'm hoping it works.I'll update next week before I bleach my hair again.

I would definitely recommend this, I wanted to lighten my hair a few shades but I didn't want it to suffer much bleach damage. I opted for this spray because it seemed like a good solution as if any damage started to appear I could just stop using it, although luckily this product did not damage my hair at all. I would spray it evenly on my hair and use my hairdryer and hair straighteners to heat it up, with the first few uses, you can barely notice the difference but with a couple more (around 5) you'll definitely start noticing the shade getting lighter. The only slight downside for me was it sometimes left my hair with a slight copper colour (barely noticeable to others)but that is to be expected from bleaching and all I had to do was use a silver enhancing shampoo to get rid of it.When your hair grows out and you notice the roots being your natural colour you can easily use the spray and gradually get it to the colour that the rest of your hair is. With this product I used John Frieda argan oil and my hair is as soft as ever! The photograph of me blonde is from about 3 months after I started using this product.

I'm not much of a review writer, but felt compelled to have my say on this product!I'm naturally dark ash blonde with fine hair. I have bleach highlights put in once or twice a year to spice it up. Was looking for a way to stop this though as it damages my fine hair so much. Have been considering "Sun In" for some time but heard so many horror stories I couldn't bring myself to try it.Anyway, I'm kind of amazed by how good this product is. I have been using for about the last 3 weeks - 2 times a week after washing and then blow dry after and the results are great - so natural and not at all damaging. I think the people who have experienced damage with this product have either not had the correct hair type/colour or have been over-using it.It is not for daily use, 2 times a week seems to be perfect. It's also worth noting that I have been spraying this directly on to my virgin roots only and brushing through, not spraying directly on to damaged/bleached hair.Great product if used wisely!

Bought this during lockdown as not able to get hair done as usual. Am absolutely delighted with it.I usually have light blond highlights over a dark blond colour. I tried to recreate this at home with a box colour and then using the spray to highlight and lighten. I’m fairly hard pressed to tell the difference from my salon colour to be honest. Obviously more time is needed than for a salon colour but time is something I have at the moment. After an all over colour, I left it a couple of days before using the spray. I followed the instructions and applied after using a deep conditioner and towel drying. I then blow dried and used straighteners, as suggested. There was a noticeable difference after just one spray.I left it a couple of days before the next treatment and another couple for a third. The resulting colour is pretty close to my usual.I’ve coupled this with the shampoo and conditioner from the same range.Really pleased and would certainly recommend the product.

This has been in use in our house for around a month now and it really is a very good product. The 500 ml bottles will last an age as only a very small amount is needed. The shampoo lathers wonderfully easily and has a delightful fragrance; it rinses out without a problem. The conditioner also goes a long way with a similar fragrance. Hair definitely feels lovely and 'fuller', not sure yet if hair is any lighter but it probably takes more than a month to see the difference.Anything not to like? Not with the products but it would be handy to more easily differentiate between the bottles as without glasses the words shampoo and conditioner are hard to read (bottles understandably the same size /shape). The easiest solution is to put the shampoo on the left and the conditioner on the right! One other point is that the shampoo had leaked in transit ... not a huge issue as only the smallest amount had escaped. Will buy replacements when these are all used up!

I was a little concerned by some of the reviews but worked really well. Stopped my hair from turning a lot darker like it usually does in the winter and instead lightened it to a sort of springtime look. I would say two shades lighter is probably about accurate. It took a couple of weeks to start looking noticeable but by the time I finished the bottle I was certain I wanted to buy again. My husband though thought it was working faster than I did.I've been using the shampoo and conditioner and was surprised it didn't trade off the general quality of shampoo/conditioner in exchange for the brightening. My hair is still as soft and clean as other products and the smell is nice too.The natural highlights of my hair are getting more extremely lighter but I think that's to be expected.I'd definitely recommend this product to a friend and will be making it my usual shampoo/conditioner.Also the yellow outside is pleasantly bright in my bathroom :)

I have brown hair not so dark so after reading the mix reviews I decided to go carefully with this product .I separated small bits of hair at the side of my face and carefully sprayed onto my hands first to put on the strands of hair then I dried with straightners set at a low temperature..I repeated about 5 times and I got really good results..sunkissed lighter than copper color. Perfect color for my hair ..but I can understand the complaints for this product you have to be really precise as it could be a disaster waiting to happen if you spray randomly..or over use this product as it does dry your hair out after initial use..bit of conditioner for first two weeks and hair becomes healthy again..I was extremely careful and I have excellent results ..just don't try to go gorgeous blonde ..buy the proper hair products if you want that or better still go to a hairdressers..but for sunkissed look perfect

John Frieda is definitely a well known brand when it comes to haircare and this Go Blonde is the latest in a long line of different products. I jumped in the shower to check this one out.Packaging first and it's a little bit of a struggle to get the plunger up initially but when you do things become very straightforward, just push down for content. Both the shampoo and the conditioner are the consistency you would expect and easy to apply. The shampoo seems to clean pretty well, and is lightly scented while the conditioner washes out well and leaves the hair feeling pretty decent. The jury is still out for me on if there's any effect on colour but that might be down to perception.Overall therefore, colour and minor issues with packaging aside this seems to be a decent shampoo and conditioner. These larger bottles should give you plenty of use and good to have both available together
