EDIT: 18/10/17Been testing new firmware for ten days now with no issues which I assume will be rolled out once fully validated. It did take quite a lot of effort to resolve but I guess worth the effort.Uptime now 11 Days 12 Hrs 42 MinsEdit EndWAC-505-10000SWhat do the makers say about this?"The NETGEAR® AC WiFi Business Access Point WAC510 delivers high performance with high client density for enterprises requiring ubiquitous and reliable wireless for all business applications."Well yes, when I first got it seem seem to work really well and I even ordered a small POE Switch with 1 Gigabit ports to feed it NETGEAR GS108PEv3 8-Port Gigabit PoE Smart Managed Plus Switch, 4-Port 53 W Power-Over-Ethernet,ProSAFE Lifetime ProtectionAt first I had been using a NETGEAR FS728TLP-100EUS ProSAFE 24 Port Smart Ethernet Fast Switch with 12 Ports PoE and 4 Gigabit Uplinks which only has 100Mb POE ports (another option would have been to purchase a mains power adapter for the WAC505).Connecting the WAC505 to a 100Mb ethernet port will of course greatly restrict the maximum possible traffic rate (only really going to be an issue if you are copying files on your local network or your location has a really good internet connection).Anyway, one I first installed it no firmware updates were available and it seemed quite stable but while waiting for my new switch it said on the user interface that an update was available..Uptime 00 Days 00 Hrs 24 MinsFirmware V1.5.3.6As you can see it has been up for 24 minutes and that is the problem, it will work for hours or sometimes only minutes without rebooting itself just saying in the logRadio 5GHz On2017-09-27T13:43:58.525ZRadio 2.4GHz On2017-09-27T13:43:58.520ZReboot reason - Normal2017-09-27T13:43:58.515ZSystem UP2017-09-27T13:43:58.475ZHowever the Reboot reason is far from "normal"It being a business model, Netgear offer better support and I have lost count of the things tried to get it to work properly....I had been using pretty much the default settings just two SSID's to match my existing setup for 2.4 and 5G (by default it creates one with dual band).Using insight manager? No (this seems to require a fee for more than 2 devices starting next year so skipped that).Using a mains adapterWith the new switchSettings changedAnd as the logs are lost when it reboots I even setup a syslog server to record the 18,000 events it logs in under 12 hours (5 x reboots during that time). After a factory reset giving it all new SSID's I found just one PC with an Intel WiFi card in was enough to crash it (later tried with another Intel based PC and it also could crash it copying large files at about 55Mbs (in the Windows 10 file copy dialogue box).Support say it is a high priority but am thinking of turning it off and going back to my old WiFi which was so much more stable. What makes it worse is sometimes, the unit needs to be unplugged to get it to work again. While typing, I just got an email from them asking if the latest setting change helped which it did not (relating to client power save).Doing a firmware downgrade by the way, does not seem to help (some upgrades are one way depending upon what they update).I should mention that the new firmware adds a couple of features e.g. ability to turn off the front LED's or just leave the power LED working and publish site Wifi to Facebook. The new firmware also work with the WAC510 which is similar but no ethernet out.The readme on the latest firmware 1.5.3.6 also mentions the following issues...Known Issues:Need to clear browser cache to get latest UI changes.Management mode switch from Standalone to Insight and vice versa does not retain the IP and VLAN configuration.Wi-Fi client connectivity issues with iOS devices occasionally.Workaround: forget and re-add the SSID and try again. So if you are a heavy iOS user you may also want to think twice...Of course, if any progress is made I shall update my review.

I got this access point up and running in no time using the Insight app. I really quite liked the app and the ability to remotely manage the device. However, the app only gives pretty basic control over the device. If you want to activate mu-mimo, use band steering or spanning tree then you'll need to activate standalone mode. Unfortunately, when you switch from insight to standalone management, half the configuration you added via the insight app gets lost. Why would they do that? Basically, if you want to get the best from this device I would start with standalone mode.I don't have PoE in my house, but I do have endless numbers of Netgear router power supplies lying around and one of those worked fine.No power supply is provided in the box. I love the fact they you get full control over the many flashing LEDs on the device and that you can turn them off completely if you wish. I use this access point to complement my BT Hub 6 and the two seem to work well together. Devices happily switch from one to the other as I move around the house. The home page of the standalone portal gives plenty feedback on what has been happening in your network, including telling you which operating systems the devices which access it have been using. Most of the information is probably not that interesting in a domestic situation, although the shear number of devices I have in my house that use WiFi surprises me. Music players, TVs, games consoles, phones, tablets, printers, laptops. The list is endless and too much for a single wireless access point. Most homes can benefit from a second access point such as this one.

This is a review for NETGEAR WAC730.Ordered the access point and it was delivered next day. Very quick delivery. The access point is very well constructed, a solid build. Very happy with the build quality of the access point, but feel that it is a bit costlyThe set up instructions were ok, but not great. I found them a little confusing when setting up the Access Point for the first time. The best method I found to set this up was:Download a version of NETGEAR Genie. This will allow you to find the access point in your in your network if you don't apply a fixed IP Address to the access point during set up.Attach a power cable to the power inlet port on the access pointconnect an Ethernet cableto the Ethernet port of a pc and the other end to the access pointSet a fixed IP address as per the instructions and then Open a web browser and follow the instructions to set the access point up.When I deployed the access point, I used a POE switch. I set it up in my loft and it worked first timeThe signals are good, but I have not yet seen how well the signal is from the garden yet. I will run some full tests later and update it here again in a few weeksOverall I am very happy with this access point

This is a great access point. Was relatively simple to setup and it actually has better range than the BT Hub 6 box I was using before. There was a room in my house where my Phone couldn't pick up wifi with the BT Hub and now with this it works at full speed!Unfortunately there was no power cable included in the box for some reason, Fortunately, I had my own so it was fine. The connection also does kick out a few times during the day, It can get a little annoying.I love that it can be managed and everything from an app on my Phone. You can check what devices are connected to the network and even create as many networks as you can! It's super cool!It also did speed up my Wifi by a few meg so that's always a bonus!I now use this as the main Wifi router and works great!Highly recommend it to anyone with a slow internet connection.

This is a very nice wireless access point perfect for the small business market. It provides the ability to host multiple wireless networks. It hasCloud based management for multiple devices and usage monitoring. For discrete firms with little client digital interaction it would be great. Anyone using a more complicated interaction should look for the higher end brands such as Cisco.Supports 802.1x for enterprise securityIMPORTANT update to firmware version 1.5.3.7 to fix WPA2 handshaking vulnerability.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this works well once the firmware has been updated and set up was straight forward. It works well as far as range is concerned, which has been a problems in the long building we installed this in. I have always found Netgear to be a reliable brand and this is working well with no outages.

AWESOME!!We live in a long narrow house with lots of soft red bricks and there has always been a problem with WiFi signals penetrating the fabric of the building. I have purchased 2 of these and distributed them in the weak areas using PoE. I now have the whole house covered which is the first time ever!

Got this to try and improve the woeful wi-fi at work, sooooo installed this (hacking into the better ethernet connection) and voila! Locally we can now use wi-fi in our nearby rooms to interact with the students and not sit and cry anymore! Get one!

I’ve decided to delay my reviews simply because a quick review may not reflect the operation of the device so in short very happy with purchase, delivery and the product itself. Thank you.

I'm not a technical person and it worked first time of trying in our garden office.
