Bought this as part of an upgrade to my house WiFi because it's wired and frankly better than a mesh type system which does it's job but can't compete with a more pro-setup such as this which, is designed for offices, hotels and workplaces.Firstly to backtrack. I renovated my house back to bare walls a few years ago and as part of that I ran in Cat6 everywhere. As an engineer I still liked the idea of being able to use wiring for data because bottom line it's faster. At the time I had the usual WiFi router for through the air stuff and in each room the ability to use Cat6.However thanks to my foresight of using foil backed plasterboard to help with energy I also when I finished realised that I'd basically created a bit of a Faraday cage and thus my WiFi was never fantastic. So, when better systems rocked up I used them and currently have five BT mesh units scattered around which, work but the range is a bit low.And then this system came to my attention via my son who was asked to install an AP system during a house rewiring he was doing. Bit of research and I have finally found the perfect system for me. A wired AP network that means I don't have to rely on passthrough or mesh for WiFi around my house and garden. Oh yes, garden as well because TP Link make outside AP's which I've also bought. I have a bunch of hedgehogs around and I've got WiFi cameras to catch them bumbling around at night which my wife and I really like to see.So here we are. A ceiling mounted unit which is neat, works superbly well and is POE - kind of.First off the TP Link system makes a big thing of POE which this is but not quite like the fully POE units that cost a bit more. I bought in total a controller, POE network switch and four AP's thinking that they would all just run off the POE switch which, they don't. Two of the AP's do - the more expensive ones - but this one has a powered adaptor.Basically, you run a LAN cable to the POE adaptor which is plugged in and then run the Cat5 or 6 to this WiFi AP. Not the end of the world but I do need a couple more which, I will spend more on so I can forget the powered adaptor that this uses.Once connected and powered up, using the Omada app and/or the control module you log in and look for the unit. Once found - which is automatic - give it a name and it's on your system which you will have already set up with SSID and password of your choice. The unit itself is well made and mounts primarily on a ceiling but could go on a wall as well. The Cat 5 or 6 cable entry is at the back and designed so that you don't see the cable which, will presumably have been fed through a hole predrilled. This is the one downside to this system for many. You need to run cat5 or 6 to where it's located and whilst in my opinion a far better way of setting up a full house WiFi does mean some work. I was lucky in that entirely by chance I'd decided years ago to run in loads of the stuff before plastering and painting means for me it's not a big job. However if you do need to run in cable then if you can't do it yourself then that will cost you.And cost. In reality this system excluding cable and fitting is cheaper than the BT mesh system. And way, way better. If you really do want great WiFi everywhere and the means to easily control access in in idiot proof way then this is the way forward. Yes, you need to run cable but the end result is a far better system.

i'd suggest the documentation are not the best and if you're not used to networking these might not be the items you're looking for. But if you have a working router/wifi that struggles in your home/office then these seem to be pretty good. I've tried extenders and cheaper Access Points (AP) in the past and was disappointed, these cost a bit more, but appear to be worth it... i say "appear" as it's only Day 2 of them being in usage.Firstly the controller s/w only runs on Windows, which is a pain, so had to load an old laptop into my Mac-rich environment and tried the software which spots the AP, but I can't do anything with it as the firmware is out of date. You can upgrade the firmware of the AP from the controller software, but not if its too old, which mine was. TP-LINK email support was crap in terms of assistance. I think tried to connect to the AP directly over http which worked (you can find the IP of the AP from the dashboard of the controller s/w) - from there I could flash the firmware and then use the controller to "adopt" it into my network.Once that was done, it worked a treat. Its now in the house on the top 3 floor (3 story town house) with a plan to add a 2nd on the ground floor and then turn off the wifi on the router. Whats nice is that it can show usage by Mac address so you find out who in the house/office is stealing the bandwidth!!

I am really not that on this connection stuff so when I built a new portable building down over the hill from home and router, maybe 150 yards away, I could not get WiFi down there for my new man cave, shop, and studio. I talked to a few people about how the easiest way to add WiFi down there since it was a clean unobstructed view. I got several ideas from people who should be in the know. Long story, make it short, I saw this on Amazon, saw all the reviews and decided to try it. I had to run a connection through a wall or two from the router to the Access Point by Ethernet outside the house. At first it would not connect to my router but I finally figured out that one of the Ethernet cables I was using was bad.As soon as I switched to a good cable, it synced up with my router and I was able to change the passwords and I was off and running. Super easy! I connected my Access Point and went to my new building to check my signal and believe it or not my download speed where I could net get a signal before was now over 200 MB per second download and around 13 meg upload. This saved be money, a lot of time and aggravation and got me fast internet and I could do it myself rather than hiring it done. Thank you immensely TP_link! I would highly recommend this product to anyone in need of extending their WiFi at a good price!!!

Ring will try to sell you the chime wifi boosters, but that does you no good if your camera is 40 ft away from the inside of your house. Our camera faces the driveway of our detached garage and was too far away for the ring camera to do anything useful. I bought this and it was pretty easy to set up. I ran an ethernet cable from the router to the TP link AP switch box (comes in the box with this EAP). Then I ran an ethernet cable through my window. I was able to shut the window around the cable because it was flat. Then I mounted this on the side of the house that faces the garage. The set up is a little confusing, the directions that come with the box don't explain what to do on the website.I followed their youtube video from their support site, then I was up and running. My garage is about 30 ft away from the router and I still get great coverage. The wifi is strong enough that my Ring camera can support a live feed with little delay. I am definetly recommending this to anyone who needs an outdoor wifi network for security cameras

Another great product from TP-Link. I upgraded to a gigabit modem, so decided to replace my aging but functional 2.4ghz TP-Link outdoor AP that maxxed out at ~10Mbps with this one. Installation was a breeze, mainly because it was simply a matter of unplugging the old antenna and plugging in the new one. OK... I used the new PoE injector, but the old one would have been fine. This antenna is much sleeker - maybe one-third the size of the old one - so it looks better outside my basement slider aside from the obvious performance gain. With both antennas straight up I'm seeing 48db at 150' with 500 mbps downloads on my Pixel 3. That's about 50X what I had before, and much more than I need.A nice side effect of the omnidirectional antennas versus the directional one I had is greatly improved coverage in the basement of my raised ranch, where I have the main router upstairs. VoIP calls are greatly improved, too. If it holds up as well as the one it replaced it should easily get out-teched before breaking.

The best part of this router is that its POE ( Power Over Ethernet ) which means it can be powered by a single ethernet cable which makes for a neat installation. The unit itself appears to have a good signal from the base unit. No doubt if you have multiple units you can do clever stuff by controlling them all together, however, my use was to act as a simple Wireless Access Point in a holiday cottage, while it works perfectly set up could have been easier. I initially wasted quite a bit of time downloading and installing the software as advised in the booklet, however this was compete overkill for my use. All I needed to do ( to rename the unit and set a password )was to log into it directly using a web browser which while it may not provide the same functionality as the dedicated software it more than satisfied what I wanted it do to. 4 stars only because I wasted some time setting up. Highly recommend from a POE perspective.

I bought this because it's a cheap WiFi access point and not because I wanted a ceiling mount PoE access point. It's easy to install and supports 802.11 b g and n at 2.4 GHz. You can add a number of SSIDs with different security allowing for guest networks. You can adjust antenna gain from 7 to 19 where 19 is the maximum and 7 the minimum. 7 is a weak signal even at a range of 6m through a thin stud wall. But if you have ample signal for your needs turning it down a bit would make it harder for someone outside to see it or piggyback onto it. However you can opt not to broadcast the SSIDs if you network and that helps with security too. Overall it works well and isn't a performance bottleneck. It's capable of shifting more data than my broadband connection so all good. Initially, thought there was a problem with it because I was getting low throughout and frequent drop outs but it turned out to be the laptop's wireless card.

Firstly, I don’t usually review but I needed to extent my WiFi to reach deadspots in the garden and could have pulled my hair out, I had ran a cat5e cable approx 40 meters to the summer house from my current router and connected an old router ( to use as a hot spot ). I had done this in my pervious home with no problems using BT routers and again at work using two other older routers again with no problems..For whatever reason in my present home, it just didn’t work. I can only presume the two routers clashed and caused problems in the network. This little device ( Ceiling access point ) from TP Link was up and running in 5 minutes and works perfectly!I highly reccomend it for the money. It’s my first time with POE equipment (Power Over Ethernet )but it works really wellI hope this review helps someone looking to do something similar

Provided super fast WIFI access for my office, which is away from the house, I needed fast WIFI access, so I am able to access my NAS that is connected via gig ethernet to the network, which in turn goes to my office and this product provides that. The POE is also one of the stands out features of the product as it allowed me to place flush against the wall with no cables showing. The only issue I had with this product was that it was incredibly difficult to set up and if you aren't the best at technology and networking, I would advise you stay away, the issue I had was that there was no default IP provided in the instructions to set the product up,meaning I had to log onto the router and go through trying the IP addresses for every device till I found the one that corresponded with the access point.

As this is one of the very few outside access points that takes a gigabit ethernet connection (most of the 300MB and lower labeled outside access points only take in a 100Mb link) it is an excellent value for the money. one thing to note is unless you really want to jump through hoops do not expect this to extend your existing network. Give it a new name and put it outside, your devices will switch to it as need be. Range is definitely not as high as claimed in a built up rural area, but mounted outside about 8 ft off the ground it covers The backyard and connecting neighbor yards well which was my main goal.It does not go through the house more than about 20 feet but when unblocked and raised even higher you might actually get 200+ft depending how strong the transmitter in your device is.

Bought an older home with thick walls. WiFi single wasn’t great out by the pool and there was no way to get WiFi to the barn. Mounted the extender on the side of the house bout 15’ up. Now the WiFi reaches the barn very well about 150’ from the house. Also had my daughter ride around the property on the four wheeler to see how far she got it on her phone. Was about 300’ from the extender. In the barn is my TV, where we play poker and watch the games. Wife put us out there! Anyway, we stream the games out there without many issues. Only issue I’ve had was sometimes the wind blows and I think the tree limbs break up the signal a bit but comes back quickly. In short it’s a great extender and worked well for what I needed it for.

What an absolutely superb pice of kit this is. It works straight out of the box. I plugged it in using an ethernet cable as I wanted it to extend an already existing home network. The set up is tricky however, as the Controller and Discoverer recommended by the packaging where utterly mystifying. If you open a browser and type in tplinkeapDOTnet it will take you to the set up page. From there you can set security, and other access arrangements. If you don't do this then the network is unsecured even if your original network that you are are extending has security on it. I now have really fast wireless broadband all over the house. For the price this is a superb buy

A great product, very easy to setup if you follow the instructionsYou have to install the software on the enclosed cd to manage the access point(s)When you get to the point where you connect the ap and adopt it the user and password is on the bottom of the apA great feature is the ability to add extra ssid's and then to set throughput limits so heavy users are slightly limitedWell worth the moneyThe dual band and gigabit port versions are equally as goodI have this sat on the end of a gigabit switch and it works wellThe range covers the whole house and beyond which is the reason for getting it, the supplied Virgin wifi router is garbage in so many ways

I purchased this to strengthen the 5ghz signal in my backyard since the 5ghz signal from the main router which is in the middle of my house wasn’t reaching through my exterior walls very well. Installation was very easy and the user interface was easy to navigate as well. I easily disabled the 2.4ghz signal so it wouldn’t interfere with the signal from my main router which is strong enough in my backyard. I also turned down the tx for the 5ghz band since my backyard isn’t very big and I didn’t want my devices inside the house to try to connect to this device instead of my main router. So far I couldn’t be happier but I’ll update if anything changes.

It was a little cumbersome on the technical set up and getting it linked up to my Apple router. Once it was working it did help with extending the access area to the room I was desiring but it was slower than my main router. So good in a pinch but I'd prefer more throughput. The POE is a nice feature but it seems a strange price point and quality to put it at because unless you are running a POE switch its pretty worthless. And if you are running a POE switch, you will likely be shooting for a higher enterprise-grade access point. Just my option. The functionality and look of this in most any environment is great. I like it but not in love with it.
