I think this is a good product and excellent build quality. A major selling point is the superb support via TP Link UK's live chat if you need any advice.I had a problem with the basic setting using the WPS (hence 4 stars for easy to install) which should have made this a two minute job. Although I was using a fairly recent Virgin Router it refused to accept the WPS set up. If you don't know what WPS is, you simply plug the TL-WA854RE (TP Link repeater) into a mains wall socket near your router, press the WPS button on your router then within 2 minutes press the WPS on the TL-WA854RE. It should auto connect and configure itself to your wireless and job done. Then re-locate the unit half way between your router and the dead zone and check for signal strength on the TP Link. Experiment to find the location (plug socket) that gives the best signal near the half way point.VERY IMPORTANT...The don't forget (I did) that your devices need to be connected to the _ext network (this now appears in your local networks, it is the same name as your network with _ext at the end of it meaning extension) so that they know the TP Link is there or your still trying to use your old weaker router signal (which makes you think the TL-WA854RE isn't working, it's because you haven't connected your device to it).Once set, your phones and tablets will know the extender is there and are able to shift connection automatically to the stronger signal when you move about. The _ext network is the TP Link and already accepts your existing security logins. If that doesn't work, there are two other methods to set it up, both are simple - instructions come in the box for all three methods.I had a very testing installation, a long bungalow with the router at one end, also thick stone walls and several rooms between, even in a straight line. I found a spot half way between the router and the dead zone. I got four signal LED's lit once I found the best location mains wall socket to plug the TL-WA854RE in. The dead zone instantly vanished and the Firestick was streaming films with no buffering at all, so the speed was excellent.(TP Link said that WPS doesn't work on all routers).

I have used the earlier version of this TP-Link Extender - this has a wider more stable range. I bought it so that my neighbour can pick up my WiFi signal (she could not afford the Internet) we both run (2 Amazon TV boxes, plus and 2 Android Kodi, plus 4 Skype cordless phones, and her kindle fire & my laptop) - it has no effect on my usage of my internet connection. Brilliant idea and we plug direct into the TP-Link with an Ethernet lead the Android boxes and its like being plugged direct into the router (same output) - It has also allowed the Skype phones to be used as an intercom between two semi detached houses. My I.T. Technician friend said it would not work - it does and I proved him wrong,Oh my broadband is through Virgin and its 100mg - therefore I do not know if it would work with other Internet providers who have less output on the WiFi. I am still running two of the older Extenders which I will eventually upgrade to this newer type. Would recommend even IF you are just buying to cover a WiFi black spot in your home. I also bought one of these for my grandson who was having problems using his Xbox on his mum's WiFi connection an he says it now works fine. They are easy to set-up and password protect. These newer plugs are better than the old - I had difficulty bypassing two passwords with the Amazon TV box (Internet & Plug passwords) the newer plugs if you are directly plugged in by Ethernet bypasses the plug password and all you have to enter is the Internet password making connection no problem. And NO it is not compromising you Home WiFi system or opening it to hackers. Hope above explanation helps someone.

I have recently installed Virgin Media with a SuperHub 2. The PS4 and Xbox 360 would not reliably connect to it via WIFI (my fault I think, as they are buried in a cupboard).I have now connected the PS4 and Xbox 360 via the RE200’s Ethernet port and previously purchased a 'TP-LINK TL-SF1005D 5-Port 10/100Mbps Unmanaged Desktop Switch', and I am now getting a download speed of ~23MBit/s (reported by the PS4). And I have connected some of my other lighter usage devices to it via WiFi to reduce traffic on the main Hub.Important Note (in case it helps):Contrary to the some reviews I have read, my unit did not default to the SSID of my Virgin Hub with an ‘-Ext’ suffix.Having used the WPS method to connect the RE200 to the Virgin Hub it used the same SSID and password as the Hub. I think this is probably the correct default for your average punter, because it will just spring into action when the user leaves the range of the main Hub, but of course with the same SSID as the main Hub it is very difficult to know whether the RE200 is actually working or not, because it is to all intents invisible on the WiFi network. The only way I found to change the SSID is to connect to it via an RJ45 cable. This then allowed me to change the SSID of both frequencies to Custom with the 'Custom' default Ext suffix. Of course, the reason that I had to do this is because the WiFi tools of my Win 8 laptop could differentiate the RE200 from the main Virgin Hub.

I have currently several WA850RE range extenders around the house which work well but this out performs them all. The main reason i bought this was to extend the range of the 5ghz wifi on the virgin superhub and this works brilliant with it. The WA850RE only supports 2.4ghz wifi where this works with both 2.4ghz and 5ghz running at the same time. It also has an ethernet port like the older model which allows the unit to be used as a powerline adapter along as using the wifi range extender mode. I have the ethernet connected to a 8 port hub downstairs to allow 8 lan connections to be linked wirelessly to my router and i get connections of upto 100meg across the house no problems and it seems to work better than my old powerline adapters.Note that the ethernet runs on 2.4ghz by default so you would need to change it to run on the 5ghz mode for the best speeds in the settings. To setup this unit you can manually set it up as when you first turn it on it appears as a new wifi connection. You connect to this then open your web browser and tell it to connect to your wifi router. The easiest option is to press the green sync button for 5 seconds and press the sync button on your router and it will auto setup for you. This is a really good prodcut. It is a bit overpriced but it does definetly work and will improve your wifi connection in a house where the walls are thick etc this will boost your signal.

Bought this as a means to control part of the household network that's driven via a Powerline adaptor. (e.g. prevent kids accessing the internet at night). I wasn't expecting much from it, but really surprised at how competent this unit is, and all for just £19.99.Was a breeze to install and configure, and even the non technical minded will still be comfortable. Though there are plenty of menu options to delve into for more technical options. With it's own power scheduling options, and the pass through power socket on it, it's an ideal solution for my niche problem - and can now shut down the Power over Ethernet network plugged into the LAN port. The WiFi strength in the area is now consistent. It's not in a great place, but there's now an average 10mbps throughput whereas before there was plenty of signal dropouts. As a 2.Ghz WiFi extender, it does the job, and with zero technical problems to contend with. The only thing that I've found to gripe about, is that you can't set a specific time on the unit. It's 4 minutes slow, and there's no option to correct the time, or specify an NTP server to use. Not sure where it's getting the time from. For £19.99 - you can't go wrong with this - if you're wanting to extend a 2.4Ghz WiFi network.

This was very easy to set up. Plugged it into a socket near the router, pressed the wps button on the router and then within a few seconds pressed the wps button on this, and it matched first time. I've relocated it several times to get a sweet spot, and it's picked up the router's signal automatically each time without the need to match it up again or press any more buttons. When relocating it, it does take a little bit of time to indicate that it has caught the router's signal, about 30 seconds I found. There are instructions on how to set this up if you don't have a wps button on your router but I didn't need this so can't comment on how easy this alternative setup would be.One note in the documentation says not to locate this near a microwave.I've got mine located about 10 foot away from the microwave, but each time I've used the microwave I'e had to reset this by turning it off and back on again. No big deal since I don't use the microwave that often, but I would hardly say 10 foot was "near" a microwave.A bit strange that and the reason why I've only given 4 stars, but otherwise this is a very good wifi extender that I'm happy to have purchased.

One star for ease of set-up: Wireless setup failed. Had to configure via ethernet cable, which was fine. But then, when I tried to use the device (to connect my Youview Box via ethernet cable) it wasn't working. Spent over an hour on TP-Link's chat support, who asked all sorts of technical questions that I didn't really have answers to. But the support was friendly and helpful, even if the procedure they took me through was a bit of a headache. The support person finally sent a link to upgrade the firmware, which I did, with some effort, not being a tech-minded person at all. Then I had to re-configure the product again, running through the basic setup procedure once more. Also, the product won't work when plugged in to an extension cord - it has to be in a wall socket. That wasn't really clear to me when I bought the product. Now, with upgraded firmware, and plugged into a wall socket, the product works very well. Great wifi signal in my sitting room, and the Youview works brilliantly. But the trouble I had setting it up felt like messing around with a PC back in 1998. These days you expect a different level of user friendliness.

Setting up this unit was fairly easy, although the WPS method didn't work with my Virgin Hub 3.I wanted to extend wifi range to the conservatory at the back of the house (the Virgin Hub is at the front), and with a limited number of available sockets this extender with AC passthrough seemed ideal. Previously, the wifi signal in the conservatory was 1 bar at most, with patchy reception, and this extender gives a full 4 bars. So no complaints as far as the unit doing the job is concerned. What is slightly disappointing is the wifi speed from the extender - it's less than a third of the speed (111mbps) from the Hub 3. That's probably nit-picking because 30mbps in the conservatory is a perfectly acceptable speed, especially as it's now coming from a rock-solid connection thanks to the extender. It's just not quite what I was expecting!Overall, I can recommend this unit for its ease of setup and doing what it says on the tin. The AC passthrough also works perfectly, by the way. Just don't expect the same speed from this as you get from your modem.

I moved into a new house recently and the range on my router just wasn't as good as my old place. I played about with all the settings and positioning of the router but the house was basically much bigger so the signal was having a hard time penetrative walls especially to reach the garden. I'm a bit of a tech guy and work in IT so I like to have a fluid functioning network wherever I am at home. I was going to run lan over power to an access point somewhere in the kitchen as the router is in the front room but I already have lan over power and wanted to avoid further ports being used on the router and then I saw this. I was dubious as to whether it would actually do as good a job as stated but I was soon shown how good a device it it.Set up took me 2mins literally and once done the range was vastly improved, so much so I bought another to put into the shed at the bottom of my garden and now I have full signal everywhere in the house and garden! Fantastic little product, definitely recommend!!!

Received today and set up immediately. SO EASY. My main Virgin Router is in the lounge at the front of the house on the ground floor, and my bedroom is at the back of the house on the ground floor with a hallway, a dining room and a bathroom in between. Couldn’t install as directed because of lack of plug sockets in areas suggested, but set up in my son’s bedroom UPSTAIRS and was so pleased to get a constant reception of 3 bars out of 4 bars which I find superb. Previously I could not connect to internet at all. I find it very difficult to understand the few comments where persons have found difficulty setting up or getting it to work as required. I am no expert, yet found it extremely easy to set up and achieved superb results, saving loads of expensive data watching football and films on my mobile in my bedroom. If you want one which is GREAT VALUE and which definitely works do yourself a huge favour and buy this one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I'm delighted with my purchase so far. I brought this to enable me to pickup my wifi signal in an outside room located in my back garden. The setup instructions were clear and easy to follow. The signal strength is quite stable and good enough for online HD video streaming services. The product also has a ethernet connector which I've hooked up to my Sony smart TV. It now never drops Internet connection whenever I used it for online video streaming. Before purchasing I did read another review expressing concerns about the firmware and recommending other purchases update it. I decided to do this as soon as I received the product. It's really easy to do and just requires you to download the software using the model number to locate it from the TP website. You then log into the WIFI Range Extender via a web browser (login instructions are in the product leaflet) and follow the update links to load the new firmware.

Does what it says on the tin. The walls in my house must be solid concrete or I don't know. Wifi does not travel very well through any of them. Through the ceiling is a bit better, but room to room with my Virgin super hub was so disappointing. The hub also had to sit close to the front wall where the entry point from the street is. With the TP-Link RE200 AC750 bla bla I now have fast wifi in every single room.I think the trick is to not put it too far from the original source. Basically I walked around with wifi on my phone to find the "reach" of the virgin wifi. I then found the reach where I had full connection. The hallway just by the staircase with openings into every room and free view to the back garden was a perfect spot.It just extends the wifi. The name and password is the same. If you have a device that connected to your "old" wifi, it will just work but further away with this thing. Very happy.

Great bit of kit, doubled the speed I was getting upstairs and in our attic bedroom. Once it is set up it's easy to move and it just works. HOWEVER one small point. Couldn't get it to sync using WPS so had to use the app. The app tells you to connect to the extender via WiFi, which I did but it was still wasn't finding it. Tried to connect via the web - still couldn't find the device. Suspected in the absence of a working WiFi connection my phone was using mobile data and somehow this was causing am issue... turned off mobile data and it popped up right away! Some test data: On virgin media and get 120MB to the box. In my office using the 5g connection I was getting 12MB using the extender increased to 28MB.In our loft was getting 3MB at best - was buffering all the time - using range extender we now get a blistering 21MB up there.Very happy with it so far.

I have an (up to) 100Mbps package and usually get about that in same room as the Router (Virgin). This won a CNet.com group test, beating alternatives over twice the price. Of course, there will be more expensive models that outperform but this is effective in my fairly typical semi.In weak rooms (far way, same floor and different floor, not adjacent) it went from around 15-25Mbps to 30-70Mbps - a solid doubling. The High Speed mode (turn on from the Tether app) seems to help, but difficult to give a consistent number.Variables include: if everyone on the same telephone exchange is on the same broadband provider and using it, you'll still get low bandwidth (like low water pressure). And when placing this unit, make sure it doesn't have much large metal objects and thick floors/walls between it and the weak coverage area.

It's early days yet but so far so good. Even though my bedroom is above the room with our router (Asus DSL-N55U) I was getting a poor wifi reception on my Nexus tablet. The tablet indicated a link speed of below 24mbps, hooked up the booster and now getting an excellent link, (was fair to poor), and an indicated 135mbps. Wifi now reaches into our bathroom, (just), and other upstairs rooms although not a great link, but it's working for what I got it for. Downside - no off switch, so I'm getting a 4 way gang extension with individual switches. It seems 50% of reviews say it's rubbish and 50% say it's great. I haven't used it for extended periods so not sure if it will drop out or loose signal.Linking up was easy via the wps button on my router - took two attempts and all fine.
