Bought this as part of an upgrade to my house WiFi because it's wired and frankly better than a mesh type system which does it's job but can't compete with a more pro-setup such as this which, is designed for offices, hotels and workplaces.Firstly to backtrack. I renovated my house back to bare walls a few years ago and as part of that I ran in Cat6 everywhere. As an engineer I still liked the idea of being able to use wiring for data because bottom line it's faster. At the time I had the usual WiFi router for through the air stuff and in each room the ability to use Cat6.However thanks to my foresight of using foil backed plasterboard to help with energy I also when I finished realised that I'd basically created a bit of a Faraday cage and thus my WiFi was never fantastic. So, when better systems rocked up I used them and currently have five BT mesh units scattered around which, work but the range is a bit low.And then this system came to my attention via my son who was asked to install an AP system during a house rewiring he was doing. Bit of research and I have finally found the perfect system for me. A wired AP network that means I don't have to rely on passthrough or mesh for WiFi around my house and garden. Oh yes, garden as well because TP Link make outside AP's which I've also bought. I have a bunch of hedgehogs around and I've got WiFi cameras to catch them bumbling around at night which my wife and I really like to see.So here we are. A ceiling mounted unit which is neat, works superbly well and is POE - kind of.First off the TP Link system makes a big thing of POE which this is but not quite like the fully POE units that cost a bit more. I bought in total a controller, POE network switch and four AP's thinking that they would all just run off the POE switch which, they don't. Two of the AP's do - the more expensive ones - but this one has a powered adaptor.Basically, you run a LAN cable to the POE adaptor which is plugged in and then run the Cat5 or 6 to this WiFi AP. Not the end of the world but I do need a couple more which, I will spend more on so I can forget the powered adaptor that this uses.Once connected and powered up, using the Omada app and/or the control module you log in and look for the unit. Once found - which is automatic - give it a name and it's on your system which you will have already set up with SSID and password of your choice. The unit itself is well made and mounts primarily on a ceiling but could go on a wall as well. The Cat 5 or 6 cable entry is at the back and designed so that you don't see the cable which, will presumably have been fed through a hole predrilled. This is the one downside to this system for many. You need to run cat5 or 6 to where it's located and whilst in my opinion a far better way of setting up a full house WiFi does mean some work. I was lucky in that entirely by chance I'd decided years ago to run in loads of the stuff before plastering and painting means for me it's not a big job. However if you do need to run in cable then if you can't do it yourself then that will cost you.And cost. In reality this system excluding cable and fitting is cheaper than the BT mesh system. And way, way better. If you really do want great WiFi everywhere and the means to easily control access in in idiot proof way then this is the way forward. Yes, you need to run cable but the end result is a far better system.

Mine was V1, the latest version is V3. I checked the firmware and it is the latest version for V1. This model is larger than V3, but otherwise the same. It is guaranteed for external use in all weathers and has two large antennae, fixing bracket and a clamping ring for TV masts, etc. Mine was to extend coverage throughout my garden. The EoP power supply is nicely designed, with a miniature mains input socket but a very short mains cable. It has a power-on LED. The access point has an LED on one side showing boot-up status, failure conditions, etc - it can be turned off from the control panel if necessary.I connected the N300 to my Netgear switch. My network has static IP addresses. The instructions for the N300 say use DHCP - which is advisable for setting-up, but you can set a static IP address afterwards. The instructions are basic - for one N300 your'e advised to enter tplinkeap.net into a browser to reach the login page. This didn't work for me initially, but after several attempts it did connect. Meanwhile I had tried to install the controller software. Don't bother! Its too complicated and kept giving me port error messages. Once logged in I could change the SSID and set up the security criteria (as supplied it is open access). There are numerous parameters you can change but the instructions are a sparse. Once your'e in this area you need to know about wireless networking. My initial tests were good. Download speed was the same as a direct connection to my router. Uploading was a bit slower. Overall my impression is positive, I recommend this access point.

i'd suggest the documentation are not the best and if you're not used to networking these might not be the items you're looking for. But if you have a working router/wifi that struggles in your home/office then these seem to be pretty good. I've tried extenders and cheaper Access Points (AP) in the past and was disappointed, these cost a bit more, but appear to be worth it... i say "appear" as it's only Day 2 of them being in usage.Firstly the controller s/w only runs on Windows, which is a pain, so had to load an old laptop into my Mac-rich environment and tried the software which spots the AP, but I can't do anything with it as the firmware is out of date. You can upgrade the firmware of the AP from the controller software, but not if its too old, which mine was. TP-LINK email support was crap in terms of assistance. I think tried to connect to the AP directly over http which worked (you can find the IP of the AP from the dashboard of the controller s/w) - from there I could flash the firmware and then use the controller to "adopt" it into my network.Once that was done, it worked a treat. Its now in the house on the top 3 floor (3 story town house) with a plan to add a 2nd on the ground floor and then turn off the wifi on the router. Whats nice is that it can show usage by Mac address so you find out who in the house/office is stealing the bandwidth!!

I purchased this device to boost the wifi in my shed and back garden. The instructions leave a little to be desired, the product is installed as you can see on the edge of my conservatory. From there I ran a lAN cable to my router. Supplied in the box is a small switch the LAN cable goes in one and the cable to your router goes in the other, the switch box is then plugged into the mains. This supplies the power to the unit. I already had a log on for TP link, and really from there my phone picked up the device and I proceeded to change the log in details to the same as my home hub.I say the instructions are not very clear as I followed them but could not get it to work.I contacted a friend who already had this device and he told me to log on to Omada and activate my account. It does kind of say this in the blurb, perhaps if it were more concise then it would be easier.Overall the device has been in place for 5 days and works well, a good strong signal in my back garden, whilst it does not offer speeds as fast as my home router it is more than fast enough to make it invaulable. My normal wifi in the house close to the router is around 120mbps, with this device i can get around 20mbps up and down, inside a timber shed and 20 meters away at the bottom of the garden. So overall i am very pleased, it just raised my blood pressure at the dubious instructions.

Firstly: this product is _not_ a wireless repeater (or at least, the setup doesn't include it) so you have to connect it to your existing LAN network by ethernet. The physical setup is excellent: very straightforward. The soft setup, however, is not.(I am not an IT professional but have set up loads of network devices over the years, so IMHO I am not a complete doofus)I could easily connect to the SSID, but the domain name given to log in and set up did not work.I'd already fixed the antenna up on the roof, so if the initial IP address was written on it I couldn't see it.I ignored the "getting started" instructions and downloaded the Omada app onto my Android phone and after a false start or twoit spotted the antenna and reported the IP address.I was able to use this to log in and do the setup, which was a bit clunky but fairly straightforward. The signal strength seems good for outdoors, which is why I wanted it.If you are looking to improve wifi within a house, though, it's probably better to get a mesh product instead.

So we had usual WiFi problems around the house and over a large garden. We had tried power line extenders and plug in boosters which were all fairly ....I installed this in a couple of hours, affixed to an outside wall. The installation is really simple the time was taken grubbing around in the loft space and pulling a 20 meter cable to the desired location. Don’t forget you need two Ethernet cables (shielded) one from your router to the control power unit and one from that to the antenna. Just plug them all together as shown and then download the app. A little stumble I had was trying to find the code “on sticker on product” ignore, it wants you to find it in your WiFi connection options and connect.Once done the app will find the antenna automatically. Add a couple of passwords and your done. The signal strength in a large garden is epic, easily plays a video 50 meters away. It also provides full signal strength indoors! So now is the only connection we use at home. It’s good, buy it

The best part of this router is that its POE ( Power Over Ethernet ) which means it can be powered by a single ethernet cable which makes for a neat installation. The unit itself appears to have a good signal from the base unit. No doubt if you have multiple units you can do clever stuff by controlling them all together, however, my use was to act as a simple Wireless Access Point in a holiday cottage, while it works perfectly set up could have been easier. I initially wasted quite a bit of time downloading and installing the software as advised in the booklet, however this was compete overkill for my use. All I needed to do ( to rename the unit and set a password )was to log into it directly using a web browser which while it may not provide the same functionality as the dedicated software it more than satisfied what I wanted it do to. 4 stars only because I wasted some time setting up. Highly recommend from a POE perspective.

I bought this because it's a cheap WiFi access point and not because I wanted a ceiling mount PoE access point. It's easy to install and supports 802.11 b g and n at 2.4 GHz. You can add a number of SSIDs with different security allowing for guest networks. You can adjust antenna gain from 7 to 19 where 19 is the maximum and 7 the minimum. 7 is a weak signal even at a range of 6m through a thin stud wall. But if you have ample signal for your needs turning it down a bit would make it harder for someone outside to see it or piggyback onto it. However you can opt not to broadcast the SSIDs if you network and that helps with security too. Overall it works well and isn't a performance bottleneck. It's capable of shifting more data than my broadband connection so all good. Initially, thought there was a problem with it because I was getting low throughout and frequent drop outs but it turned out to be the laptop's wireless card.

Firstly, I don’t usually review but I needed to extent my WiFi to reach deadspots in the garden and could have pulled my hair out, I had ran a cat5e cable approx 40 meters to the summer house from my current router and connected an old router ( to use as a hot spot ). I had done this in my pervious home with no problems using BT routers and again at work using two other older routers again with no problems..For whatever reason in my present home, it just didn’t work. I can only presume the two routers clashed and caused problems in the network. This little device ( Ceiling access point ) from TP Link was up and running in 5 minutes and works perfectly!I highly reccomend it for the money. It’s my first time with POE equipment (Power Over Ethernet )but it works really wellI hope this review helps someone looking to do something similar

What an absolutely superb pice of kit this is. It works straight out of the box. I plugged it in using an ethernet cable as I wanted it to extend an already existing home network. The set up is tricky however, as the Controller and Discoverer recommended by the packaging where utterly mystifying. If you open a browser and type in tplinkeapDOTnet it will take you to the set up page. From there you can set security, and other access arrangements. If you don't do this then the network is unsecured even if your original network that you are are extending has security on it. I now have really fast wireless broadband all over the house. For the price this is a superb buy

A neat solution to creating an additional WiFi zone outside the range of your primary router - this is what this device is intended to do. And it does it very well indeed. Perfect for a garden office where you can run an Ethernet cable out and plug the other end into the house router. Setting up is not too taxing but you will have to log in to the new box and change a few settings to add a necessary layer of password protected security. I also halved the standard WiFi range to restrict the new wireless zone. The mounting bracket was a bit fiddly to get right. Cheaper devices are available but this access point is no eyesore and works very well.

Using these with their own suplied POE injectors works great but when you have to install a number of them in one property is where problems arise. These APs work on 24v but the TP-Link POE switches give 48v so they won't fire up. I use a 24v POE strip https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007TQAZGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which will power up to 8 devices whilst keeping things reasonably neat and tidy.Coverage is good and the interface is simple. The Omada controller software is great, allowing you to configure a whole site instead of individual APs. For the price, these do as good a job as more expesnive kit.

Great product to extend WiFi coverage in the loft. We have a BT Home Hub 6 router and a CAT5 outlet in the loft which this is now connected to. Changed the SSID and password to match the Home Hub and have seamless transition on devices. Terrible instructions and no need to download the controller: just find the IP address of the access point using the Home Hub device map and type this into your browser to log directly into the unit and make the amendments there. Will now order a second one for the back of the house to give better coverage in the garden. Much better than the extenders that never seem to work!

Like many homes, our BT Hub isn't located in the best place for WiFi coverage and I wanted a low cost solution. Having already established some cat6 into the loft to provide wired connectivity via an (also excellent) TP Link managed switch, it was a doddle to add another power point and then position the WAP on the ceiling at the top of the stairs. PoE significantly reduces the amount of work needed. Some configuration on the hub to make it a static IP address, then naming the SSID so I didn't have to change all the devices it supports. Now every room in the house has 3 bars.

I have bought two of these so far. One for the attic and one for summer house room/office. It is easy to setup and works perfectly fine. Good coverage. Nice small size. Comes with fixtures so you can install it on the wall easily. If you are network/wlan savy you may want to go for something that provides seamless switchover between separate wlan domains. I believe for this product there is a controller which should allow you to do that. However as i did not want to spend too much, i just rely on my wifi devices to sense the signal strength and automatically switchover.
