No, it isn't Capcom have shrugged off their 90's image of just providing 2D side scrolling Beat-Em ups which we used to love and adore. Not any more, these guys are ratcheting up the pressure on Square-Enix, Sonic Team and Bethesda for the RPG must-buy factors.Not played it much, but for what i have experienced, this game has a lot going for it, kill Creatures, and use their bones, hides and teeth to augment and repair your weapons and armor...Exactly the kind of game i look for, where the most obvious answer isn't the one where you rush to the end in a blaze of ill-fated glory....This is a thinking man's game, Storming into battle against the biggest monster there is may seem brave,

A well defined world, well designed environment plus realistic but yet fantasy creatures... welcome to the world of Monster Hunters!! It is a great game not just because of its superb game play, but also for maybe the first time, a player need not to be tied to a faction or carry a heavy burden on their shoulder to save the world (or some one), the aim is simple, take a mission (contract) and be famous! The game does not rely on gore nor violence, some of the missions are actually...cute. You do not kill to complete the missions, as a matter of fact, some missions require you to capture monsters, this gives the game a whole new level of depth. I played this game, loved it,

While the Online mode is now non existent the game is pretty big playing solo makes alot of the early battle extremely hard requiring time mining & hunting for raw materials for swords iron ore dragon teeth scales for armours so on likely a couple of hundred hours worth of play on solo mode,pretty fun making all your own equipment to hunt various beasties and then using there dead body to make even more powerful weapons to eventually hunt titanic size dragons that are as hard to kill as they look.

this game is a must for all fans of RPGs on the PS2, i enjoyed it immensely , it has a great learning curve and tons of pik-ups and items to find ,loads of different monsters to slay and weapons/armour upgrades ,overall a fantastic game,another CAPCOM mini masterpiece,10/10 .

If you want to revisit the older MHs this is where to start. It sucks, seriously, but the novelty of playing the first of the entire series makes it bearably. No idea what they were thinking with the controls, a price to pay for one of the single best game series out there.

In preparation for the release of the newest 3DS title of this series, I repurchased this game. Although the on-line multi-player no longer works the single player is an excellent adventure on its own 9/10

exellent game but there could be improvements on the graphics but on the whole i will never leave my ps2 ever again.GET THIS GAME!

The origin of one of the best adventure j.r.p.g's. A great purchase for fans old and new to get a taste of how the series began.
