As an avid Lego and general building set fan, I have had a few Meccano sets in the past, but this is the first in a few years. They seem to have introduced quite a few plastic pieces, which are more flexible, but far less durable. Construction of the main model took around 2 hours, and was a bit frustrating at times, but overall enjoyable. The last step connecting the hood of the car to the bottom wasn't thought through very well, and it stops the front tyres moving most of the time. My main gripe with the plastic pieces, is that they break easily. I tested the cars pullback motor for the first time, and while fast, it bumped into a chest of drawers, and one of the plastic pieces snapped completely.

It's taking our 13 / 14 year old a bit longer than we thought to build this latest addition to his collection of Maccano models, but he likes it. We actually tried to buy this on amazon but at check out were told that we had to buy two of them - which we didn't want (perhaps those with prime can choose one or two). So found the same item on ebay for slightly more and ordered that - but it arrived as a gift from amazon! so an amazon purchase. The ebay seller making small margins by selling amazon items as gifts - and presumably with prime they didn't have to buy two!

- Unless your 8 year old has spent some time doing this before, its going to need parental help- Instructions not great - could do with more images and better clarity- The overall structure needs some bending which takes some getting used to. If you haven't bent the body into the right shape then you're going to get problems with wheels brushing metalwork- Some of the nut assembly is surreal in its fiddliness- Came with spare parts (unless I really screwed up) so you shouldn't be left missing a piece

I was a little disappointed in the actual size of the product. Box is a lot smaller than anticipated. However, once opened it became obvious the product was going to elicit the challenge required for my young 14 year old son. He has outgrown Lego and we wanted something that would challenge his ability and give him more than one challenge to overcome. 5 challenges in 1 product which also introduced the use of a tool to help accomplish the challenge. A key skill he would require later in life.

We bought this Meccano Roadster Cabriolet kit as a gift for a model car fanatic that wanted to try an alternative to the Lego range of cars. It ‘kept them quiet’ for a few hours and they really enjoyed assembling the parts to make the roadster cabriolet shown on the box. There are other models that can be built from this 5 models in 1 kit, all the tools for assembly are included and it seems really good value.

When constructed it has a heavy solid feel. My grandson really likes it. My only dislike about it is that there must be a better way of attaching the wheels so that they don't keep falling off. A model car which is meant to move really does need wheels that will stay on. It was this that led to my grandson and me, losing interest in it.

I've got this for my dad as he's always said he loved it when he was a young boy.So I thought a nice little set to start him off againStaff very nice and try to help in any way they can. I asked for a model car my dad loves they can't get it at this time but they was so helpful and quick at reply

We bought a couple of sets of this kit for friends children. My wife then read reviews which said it was impossible to build as the parts would not fit correctly.So I had to buy another one just to make sure that it could be built. It's not impossible - it's just fiddly and looks great when built

The difficulty we found with today's Meccano is that it jumps from the babyish plastic stuff that doesn't get such good reviews, to metal sets that are aimed at children older than we wanted but is at least it's "proper" meccano. I think our 6 year old grandson will need some help!

Argos delivery fast. Item purchased and delivered as a gift. No feedback about the item received from recipient as yet. Knowing usual high standards of Meccano, I had gave it five stars as a rating was insisted upon, but they don’t relate to the specific item being reviewed

purchased this as a present for our son and ended up spending quality time buildingit together. Some of the elements are a little tricky, but it was well worth the time doing it. Loved playing with Meccano again and had to remind myself who present it really was.

Bought for 6 yr grandson who was bored with lego and in need of a challenge. Although it says 8+ he managed 80% on his own and only needed help with some of the detailed instruction. Facinating watching him work it all out and the pleasure he got in finishing it.

I purchased this meccano set as a Christmas gift for my nephew (7yrs). He loves Lego, so I thought this would be a change, yet still encourages his creativity and excitement of building things. His dad will probably be keen to help him too!!!

Very good product. I’m 20, not issues putting it together although a bit fiddly especially with my fat fingers. Good quality but one of the plastic bits snapped when the car hit a wall lightly. Other than that lots of fun and wasted time!

I bought this for my son to keep him busy during the lockdown as he’s a bit bored of lego now.It is a brilliant kit and he really enjoyed following the instructions and using the nuts and bolts.A very good brain stimulating kit!
