I've never skimped on sunglasses as cheap ones can damage your eyes. In the past I've had Ray Bans & have not been disappointed, but they are not active sports wear. (Sadly like so many brands they are now owned by EssilorLuxottic and prices are artificially high. Luckily, since they last, most of mine are vintage originals.) In the eighties I bought Oakley Razor Blades - sucked in by their promise of "Thermonuclear Protection". They broke. Then about 20 years ago & in a hurry for something that would stick to my face while exercising, I foolishly bought another pair of Oakleys. These stuck to my face OK, but sadly also broke because like everyone I stick them on top of my head. They were repaired by Oakley. These also broke. (One pair didn't break - but they fell off my head into the sea whilst sailing, so insurance replaced them.) Finally, looking for something that were an Oakley replacement without the huge & unwarranted price, I found these were well reviewed & a direct competitor to the Oakleys I was looking at.I'd never heard of Maui Jim & I think I paid about £95, which is as much as I've ever paid for Ray Bans & a risk for unknowns. This is why customer reviews are so useful. From day one I found them great. They are so light you forget you are wearing them - be it on your face of on top of your head, which has never broken them even though they look really fragile. They stick to your face - be it whist exercising, sailing or canoeing (both on the sea where the polarising is great for fishing and just cutting down the glare in general) - and the top of your head. I am hard on my kit and whilst these developed some small scratches from daily use over 5 years, the harsh saltwater environment didn't effect them at all.Sadly I lost them - I think I left them somewhere whilst washing down my canoe - so someone has a great pair of free shades. To replace them I bought a pair of much cheaper Dirty Dogs, since RNLI Lifeguards wear them. False economy - they actually distort my vision & on occasions magnify or focus glare, which is a weird effect. I've stopped wearing them they are so annoying. They've also corroded.Since Ho'okipas have now zoomed up in price as the pound has fallen I am saving up for a new pair. For active wearers like me, I can't imagine there being anything better.I'm a harsh critic. Buy them. I'll be buying again. Good work Maui Jim.

I'm on my third pair of these sunglasses over the course of the last several years, and absolutely love them! Here are the things I like:1) They are light-weight and comfortable. I can wear these all day long with no problem at all.2) The polarized lenses are very good quality.3) The flexible frames will hold up to quite a bit of abuse.4) These look great! My single complaint with these sunglasses is that they're hard to clean. For some reason, when they get dirty it's hard to get the film off of them - and my wife's had the same experience with her Maui Jim sunglasses.I purchased my first pair of this model almost 10 years ago. Unfortunately,I hit my head on a door frame when they were pushed up on my head - and the lenses got scratched pretty bad (I'm 6'7", so that's not too uncommon for me....).At that point, I moved that pair of sunglasses into my wife's car and got a second pair for my truck.Recently, I've found myself driving her car more and more - so I finally replaced that original pair. (I know I could have just replaced the lenses; but, it always seemed like more of a pain than it was worth since they were working.)I am pretty easy on sunglasses, so they tend to last a while. I'm also generally not the kind of person who picks the same style over and over - so that says a lot about how great these are.Personally, if you like the look, I would definitely say you should give these a try.

I cannot say enough about the quality of Maui Jim lenses and customer service. I've had this style for 15 years--from time to time replacing my old scratched up lenses through Maui Jim customer service. Mine were the bronze tortoise Hookipas. I decided this time to order a new pair of black with the dark gray lens. I like the style even better than the tortoise. However I was hoping the gray lens would be darker than the bronze, but I don't find that to be true. Also the bronze lens offer oomph in color perception--everything looks like a Disney movie through the bronze lens. This is good for gardeners who care how orange the hibiscus is and how ruby the throat is on that hummingbird in the backyard.Although these fit me fine, I have a large head. I don't think these are good for a person with a small face. Choose a different style. Here are the best qualities of these glasses: They are lightweight. No headache. They are among the most reasonably priced Maui Jims available. They are large and wraparound just enough for good coverage. They look cool. Glare is basically nonexistent. Have a problem? Call Maui Jim for attentive service. The downside is: They are lightweight enough that when you bend over they flop away from your nose. You really should use two hands to put them on, however that is true of most glasses.

I wanted to leave 4 stars because nothing is perfect and I reserve 5 stars for perfection, but... Honestly, these deserve 5 stars. I found one defect in the pair I got, the frame above the left eye is about 3/4 of a millimeter bent lower than the right. It's not noticeable without insane scrutiny. They're scratch resistant, extremely malleable, they have beautiful clarity and they fit comfortably without falling off easily. I can shake my head pretty vigorously without them loosening more than a quarter of an inch. They're what I expected for ~$140 and I am thoroughly satisfied.Besides that, the case is high quality, it has an inner shell to protect from crushing.Though it came in brown and it would have been better black in my opinion. Also came with a drawstring microfiber-esque bag with flowers but it has a hideous green background, not my favorite but not really what I was paying for either, so I don't mind.

No sane person has to question the quality of Maui Jim shades. However, because of theseincredible prices, I was skeptical. So, I set out to a local Sunglass Hut (as recommended by others)and picked out a couple pairs that I loved. I took camera shots of the serial numbers, construction, etcso i would have a comparison. The Sunglass Hut salesperson says "No way you're getting these shades at THAT price" lol. She says"Bring them back here and I'll show you they're fakes". Well, I received the shipment exactly 6days after ordering(don't pay attention to that month and a half stuff, you'll get them within a week), and took them back to the Sunglass Hut.She says.. "Well, they're certainly authentic..looks like you gotta great deal" Yeah lady, that's what I said :-) No Soup For You!

Second pair I've bought >First pair survived 4 years of heavy use, including an infant through toddler years grabbing, pushing and otherwise playing with them. I still have the first pair, but their lenses have gotten scratched up enough over the years they're not enjoyable to wear any more.If I have a complaint, I can't say I love the new foldable case - it's a cool idea but in execution, it's harder to use.. but.. if you're travelling really light, I could see it be nice so when not in use ,you can fold it flat and throw it in a pretty tight packed bag.As always, great quality, great fit and feel, and amazing lenses.

This company is awesome- I've sent my previous pairs in for minor repairs and they've sent them back almost immediately, usually only charging $10. I've been buying these over the last 15 years and have usually lost them while boogie boarding at Bellows Beach on Oahu. They provide the BEST clear views of any sunglasses I've ever owned and are well worth the price in my opinion. Unfortunately I accidentally left these on a table at a restaurant and went back immediately to retrieve them but apparently the restaurant staff loves Maui Jims too and they said they never saw them. BS.

I have used this particular brand, color and style of sunglasses for at least 10 years. They do get scratched after many instances of dropping them on the ground. So I have had to replace them every few years. I cringe at the price, but love them too much to deprive myself. The best thing is the color. I have eyes sensitive to light, and these work great in both low sunlight and bright sunlight. I live in CA and wear them year round. I can even see well in grey sky conditions. I sure hope Maui Jim keeps making them. I can't afford to buy 10 pairs at once to last my lifetime.

This is actually the second pair of these glasses that I have ordered for my husband. He liked the first pair for fishing/hiking and for playing outdoor sports, and he kept saying he wanted a second pair to keep in his car for driving instead of moving them back and forth because inevitably he would leave them in his fishing vest or in the car whenever he wanted them for the other activity. So now he has a pair for driving and a pair for sports and he loves these glasses, he says they are great for fishing being polarized and give a nice clear view when he is driving.

I live on the water and I needed glasses that were polarized and lightweight. These fit the bill. I can bend over and they do not fall off! Crystal clear as well. I had a pair of glasses that I had for 6 years and they finally fell off of my cap.. I was devastated. I have never owned Maui's but if these hold up to my expectations...I will purchase another pair. They were on back order I believe and the shipping notification changed daily but I am a patient person. Only problem was that the box was somewhat dented yet the product was not damaged. I love them!

I've been wearing this style Maui Jim for years - this at least my third. Great shades, lightweight with nose pieces to keep the frame off my face. But all of the cases in the past were kinda rounded rectangles. The case with this new pair is shipped as a flat piece that expands into a triangular length, like a Toblerone chocolate bar. This shape does not easily fit into pockets, etc and with it's soft ends, seems to provide less protection for your expensive sunglasses. I'm probably going to use one of my old rounded cases instead.

These are replacing a pair of Ray Ban RB3183 sunglasses that I had owned for over 10 years but lost. I think the lens quality is great on these Maui Jim sunglasses but when these arrived the temple was bent on one side. I had to leave them sitting on my dashboard in the hot sun for them to go back to their normal shape. I have also noticed that the nose cushion is not as comfortable as my Ray Bans were, which is odd because these are very light glasses. Overall, I'm happy with them and probably just need to get used to them more.

7.10.2014

The lenses are the clearest I've ever seen. Most sunglasses just make everything darker (which is great!). However, I feel like I actually see better with these on. They really make you appreciate the difference between cheap sunglasses and expensive ones. The quality is definitely there. Don't get me wrong, I still have several cheap pairs of sunglasses laying around for watersports or other instances where my glasses might get damaged or lost. But these are my go to pair for all my daily activities.

13.4.2015

Great product, love the clarity, color, and and crispness when looking through the lenses. The only negative is that the eye lashes on my left eye lid after brush against the left lens (even without makeup). This might sound silly but it is annoying and I find myself pulling the glasses farther down the bridge of my nose. I have tried to adjust them to correct this but nothing seems to work. So I will wear them lower on my nose and continue to enjoy the view from behind the lenses.

These glasses are great!! absolutely no glare at all. this is my 3rd pair of Hookipa's, but first with the blue lens. Blue lens looks amazing, but the colors are not as vibrant as with the grey lens, there is a slight blue hue at the bottom of the lens in certain light, and also I noticed the blue lens scratches a little easier. Overall still great glasses that I would recommend to anybody. 4 star only because they scratch easily, and I only use the Maui Jim case to clean them.
