Mattel GKC88 BTS Jin Idol Fashion Doll for CollectorsI must confess, I did not have a clue who this Jin fashion doll was based upon. After some research I found that he is a member of a South Korean pop group named BTS, also known as The Bangtan Boys. The Bangtan Boys consist of 7 band members. This doll is part of a collection of these band members, although I'm unsure how well known these are in the UK? I certainly hadn't heard of them myself, neither had my wife or son. This particular doll is of 'Jin', real name: Kim Seok-jin. Kim Seok-jin was born on December 4, 1992, in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. He is a singer songwriter with the above boy band.Looking very oriental in facial features, this is quite a large doll which reminds me a lot of the Barbie range. It will probably sit nicely within a Barbie collection as he is certainly a colourful character. His hair is golden coloured and rooted into the dolls head. It appears that the clothing this doll is wearing was modelled on a custom-designed suit that Jin wears in the bands music video called "Idol".The doll is articulate, he has 11 working joints, so his limbs can be manipulated into many various poses. His clothing is removable, so I'm sure if more than one band member doll were purchased, the clothes would probably be inter-changeable. I must say also, this doll does appear to be quite well made.I'm sure a fan of this boy band would absolutely adore this doll, along with any others from the collection of 7 that are available. Although this is a nice doll, I cannot understand why this is advertised as a doll for collectors, when the doll is supplied in a blister pack that has to be destroyed to remove the doll? Surely collectibles are best kept in the original packaging?A nicely made doll that is both colourful and probably desirable for fans of the band.If you have found my review at all helpful I would very much appreciate if you could click the 'Helpful' button below, thank you.

BTS (also known as the Bangtan Boys) have been a huge success over in their native country of South Korea. Now this K-Pop boy band have spread their brand of music further afield and have recently reached our shores. Some may wonder if (like many Boy Bands) these guys will just fizzle out and be forgotten - I don't think so. They have been at the top of their game for over six years now and are responsible for adding a staggering US$4.65 billion to the South Korean economy - each year! In America, they are also the first band since The Beatles (remember them?) to have three number one albums in one year. Their songs are guaranteed longevity due to many artists across the world doing covers of their more popular songs - one of my favourites is Spring Day,performed by Gabriella Quevedo. Not surprisingly, there is a big demand for their merchandise - which in turn could make these dolls very popular. I have Jimin and have to say he looks real cool in that suit he's wearing. I imagine that these nicely made dolls will be in demand from young girls who will want to play with them whilst listening to BTS. I'm guessing that adults will also want to purchase them - if only as an investment. These 'official' Mattel dolls have been crafted with a fine attention to detail and I think they are reasonably priced. It just leaves me wondering 'which one should I get next?' oh, decisions, decisions.....

The South Korean pop group BTS is one of the hottest bands in music now and Jimin is a member, who comes from a collection of dolls, representing the 7 in the band, of which one is Jimin.Any fan of BTS would love this young male doll. He is very lifelike and looks as if he is about to go on stage. He has beautiful, dark, rooted hair and a handsome, modern, Asian face that seems to be speaking to you alone. His skin appears to be a pure peachy porcelain. He is dressed in a very smart suit , which is entirely in keeping with what he does, sing pop. The coat and trousers are covered in designer horizontal bands of predominately gold and red. which is a lucky colour in Asia. These predominate colours are also intermixed with blue. His tie blends in with an abstract but different design, showing off his white shirt. On his feet he wears removable white boots. His hands are outstretched as if to bring his owner in to him and his music. Children can move all his articulated joints, arms and legs and turn his head as if they were dancing with him. Jimin is a striking doll and I am sure people will be happy to buy other members of the band. The background of the package is theatrical, in black and covered in small speakers or flowers. On the back is a photo of the boys on stage in pensive mood. I like this doll very much and I myself am tempted to buy some of the other BTS boys.

What a great Mattel doll, this BTS J-Hope one is super cute, in a nice box easy to open, with a black and white photo of the band on the back. His face is well detailed with a nice smile. He has a moveable head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, making him great for posing. His designer suit is a replica of J-Hope’s one, the shirt has three white buttons with a Velcro closure underneath. Unfortunately the shirt is only at the front, attached to his jacket, but it is all removable along with the matching trousers with a Velcro fastening at the back. His white trainers are very well detailed and are removable too, they are left and right, unlike Barbie’s footwear. His hair is black, glossy and cut in a similar style to J-Hope’s though heavily gelled down. I’ve taken some photos to show you, including his moveable limbs. So why haven’t I given this doll 5 stars? His lower legs are so weirdly disproportionate to his upper legs, as they are so much longer than his upper legs (please see my photo of him sat with a MTM Barbie) he’s actually about the same size as a Barbie, aside from these odd legs. His feet too are enormous, but perhaps I’m used to looking at Barbie’s impossibly tiny feet ;) when he’s stood it’s not obvious. He’s well made and does look like J-Hope, it’s a fun item I’m sure fans (army) of BTS would adore and he’s reasonably priced too.

This is a fairly ordinary collector’s issue doll, quite plainly packaged. It doesn’t have the style of the David Bowie doll that I also own.Kim Seok-jin, aka Jin, is a member of the K-pop band BTS. (The idol refers to the name given to members of manufactured K-pop and J-pop bands. The doll shows Jin with bleached blond hair in an outfit widely reproduced in various publicity shots and on merchandise . Jin is wearing a white hoodie underneath a floral print suit jacket with matching trousers. He’s also wearing white trainers. It’s impossible to remove Jin from the box without destroying the box, so collectors will probably want to keep him in one piece. As a toy, he is a Ken sized posable Barbie companion. The fact that he has bleached blond hair and Asian features makes him stand out a little. The doll does look like publicity photos of the singer. With the blond hair and distinctive suit, it’s difficult to mistake the doll for anybody else. One for K-pop fans, perhaps. The price reflects the low interest that this item is likely to have among UK collectors.

As a 50+ Dad, I can honestly say that I’ve never heard of this Korean group – BTS. However, my two daughters are full up-to-speed with who they are. So, got two of these, different people, one for each. The packaging on this looks really good and you can pretty much see the full doll through the, almost clear, plastic front. Then on the back you have a nice shot of the group. The face of the doll is very well done and, having had my daughters go through a number of different dolls over the years, the hair looks well done. Rather than being stuck on, it looks like it goes into the head. So, hopefully no male pattern baldness. The clothing, particularly the jacket, looks very smart, and the colours are bold. The clothing is a bit metallic in effect. However, it’s not the best quality, the boots are a bit tacky, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to fall apart straight away.Given this is a “branded” BTS product and stands 28cm tall, at £11.99 its worth the money.I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative and useful.

I must confess I’d never heard of this South Korean boy band before being offered the model for review. I mentioned BTS to a young family member and she was besides herself with delight at the possibility of her very own BTS doll.I looked at some promo photo shots of the band and they certainly have a very particular and distinctive look. Each band member dresses in a particular way, with hair styled and often coloured and their ‘look’ is clearly identifiable. This doll definitely captures the the essence of their style and as it’s made by Mattel, I’m confident that the quality will be good. The model is really well presented in a clear plastic box so it’s easy to see the doll and costume. The hair is amazing; it’s woven into the head and looks almost real. As the arms and legs are articulated and the head moves, it’s possible to set the model in a number of different poses. Overall, I’m impressed and I think considering the work in the doll and the clothes, it’s very reasonably priced.

This is a rather fashionable, if androgynous doll, with bright pop-star clothing, complete with white boots that have detailed treads. The detailed buttoned white shirt does look rather too large around the collar as does the gold/green v-stripe jacket - but that is probably me being fastidious. The clothes are removable and interchangeable and work neatly with the Mattel Barbie collections, in terms of sizing. Please note, the packaging is not as robust as I have seen with other ‘Barbie’ doll collections and it arrived a little crushed.J-hope is a pop star with whom I am unfamiliar. Apparently, he is a member of top hit Korean boy band, BTS. Nevertheless, the articulation in this doll, including articulated wrists, makes this doll more lifelike. The detailing is particularly striking, including the finger joints and flicked hair style. I understand there are other band members to collect. So if BTS is your child’s thing, then this doll is likely to be too!

My teesn were really interested tos ee hwat a BTS doll from Mattel would look like but were a bit disappointed. They felt Suga's hair wasn't styled right and that the eyes were very "Barbie" western and not Korean enough. Mostly they were disappointed by the apparel. They thought from the picture that the suit would be shiny gold with a black and silver graphic but it is the usual Barbie polyester in a flat yellow goldish colour. They liked how the doll can be posed as it is articulayed in 11 points, knees, wrists etc. which give sthe doll a lot of scope for playing with. At around fiftenn quid he is twice the price of a standard Barbie, but given the articulation and thebranding of BTS factor I think the rice is fairly reasonable.Christmas is coming so this doll is hitting the market at the right time. If you are buying the whole band of seven dolls you'll have over £100 to find.

We love dolls in this house so when we got the chance to bring Jimin home to our collection we were thrilled, although my daughter is unaware as yet of BTS, she is very aware of these dolls and after V, Jimin was her next choice to bring a dancer doll who looks different to boring old Ken!!The doll is excellent quality with 11 points of articulation making him capable of posing in dance moves and I’m so very excited to see proper rooted hair on a Male doll! The clothes are a disappointing , not necessarily in style though my daughters is g that impressed with the suit, but I would have hoped a little more effort could have been made in the textile choices, after all these aren’t your bargain basement line they are in the likeness of an incredibly popular group!Overall, Jimin & our other addition V are having fun in our toy box as Ken, Aladdin and Flynn Ryder have got competition!

Merchandise like this can be a bit hit and miss, very often the dolls don’t look anything like the person they represent but this is actually a very good representation of what Jin actually looks like. I’m not sold on the hair, it just doesn’t look right but it’s a minor niggle.BTS aren’t very well known in this country but I have seen then on a couple of tv shows so they are growing in popularity. They are a rap/pop group and despite being Korean their songs are mostly sung in English, so easy to understand and really quite catchy. The group consists of 6 members but as with most pop groups you usually have a favourite so I doubt if your child will want all 6 dolls. The dolls are a similar size to Barbie, they are well made with articulating arms, legs and head. This will definitely appeal to BTS and K Pop fans.Hope you found my review helpful

I knew nothing about this boy band, but learned that they’re South Korean and are making their mark with a worldwide audience. They have a very specific look and style; each band member seems to be known for hairstyle or dress and the range of Mattel models reflect this with uncanny accuracy. The model is bold and bright with clear features and the articulated joints move easily so he’s able to strike a pose. The costume is detailed and the hair is woven into the top of the head. I’ve looked at photos of the band and compared the figures in this range with those pictures and there’s no doubt who they are, so they’re excellent replicas. The doll is presented in a good quality see through box and looks good.To be honest, I find them a little spooky, but they certainly thrill youngsters!
