I am a professional photographer, almost invariably seen lugging around my favourite Manfrotto 190 series with large 3 way head. But despite it's obvious robustness it isn't what one would call 'portable'. I bought this Mantona Scout with some trepidation. After all what can you really get for under sixty quid complete with a ball head AND quick release plate? How wrong could I be. Not only is the build quality very much akin to my Manfrotto, with turn-over leg locks and top adjustment being almost identical in every detail but the QR plate mounted atop the excellent quality ball head is a dead ringer for all the other QR plates in my various camera bags... Someone else made comment about difficulty disengaging the QR plate.I had no such difficulty - it behaves exactly like the Monfrotto..Top marks Mantona for a great product, very well made, packaged and at such an amazing price. Next stop, Jardin de Monet. I have every confidence this will perform well with my Nikon D3x and 70-200mm F:2.8 (among others).Oh, and surprise, surprise it came with an excellent black, zip up carry bag with shoulder strap. Nice one!So, with such praise what could be wrong - surely there must be something? Yes, Amazon's packaging has once again let the product down. I couldn't believe the size of the box that arrived by Hermes courier today. Two crumpled up pieces of brown paper and an otherwise empty space which could easily have held 5 more Mantona tripods boxed.. Come on Amazon, I thought you had improved but clearly not so, this packing is a disgrace...

I have been using this for almost a year now. Very happy with my purchase, I use a D90 with the below lens combinations and so far have produced very stable results using the following lenses - 24-70mm, 70-300mm, 105 mm.I won't compare this to tripods which cost 5-6 times, as that would be unjust. But this is an excellent product which should serve everyone well as long as you are not planning to support a super heavy lens weighing above specified limit.Pros -1. Stable in 90% positions. 10% less due to some issues with the ball head(refer cons).2. Light weight3. The center column can be reversed completely and used for close up macro shotsCons -1. The rubber covers attached to the foot of the tripod won't last long.Mine have already started wearing off after a year's heavy usage.2. The holder of the quick release plate became wobbly after 7 months of usage but I fixed it easily after tightening the concerned screw. This is common with most tripods.3. There are some issues with the ball head, you have to ensure that you have really tightened the screw so that the head doesn't move if you are shooting with the lens and camera body pointing downwards. But even after you have tightened it completely, it does move a bit and then become stable, so you have to get used to it and adjust accordingly.

I bought this from Amazon Germany, where there are many good reviews for it. It was on offer and cost just 47 euros which turned out to be an absolute bargain. I've been looking for a light and sturdy tripod for my Nikon D7000 but didn't want to pay too much as it's something I would only occasionally use but am very aware of the low quality of cheap tripods, having owned a few in the past. The weakest part on a cheap tripod is the head, very often made of plastic and likely to move as you press the shutter, defeating the object of a tripod. The Mantona Scout is extremely good value for money, there are very few plastic parts on it and it is mostly made from aluminium - it weighs just over 1kg.The ball joint and top plate contain no plastic and are very solid. Camera position can be very quickly moved and reset with just one lever. It just about reaches its limit with the front-heavy 300mm zoom attached but, with a bit of care, this doesn't pose any real problems. The only possible improvement perhaps would be to add a hook to the base of the centre pole allow a camera bag to hang to add rigidity. All in all, this is a very well made piece of equipment and I can most definitely recommend it.

Fantastic bit of kit!My previous tripod was a Giottos Silk Road (killed by a careless car park driver!) that cost almost 3 times as much and I can honestly say, it was not 3 times better than this Mantona one.Build quality is pretty good and the tripod feels weighty and good in the hand. All the clasps and adjusters are easy to use, even with gloves on. This spent a week in Iceland with me and proved very sturdy and stable, even in strong gusts of wind. I would say not to fully extend the centre column if you want the best results with long exposures. The ball head is good quality and easy to adjust and the quick release works well and has a safety catch to stop accidental release!I have only two negative points....It is a bit heavy.I would say closer to 3Kg and secondly for a travel tripod it is quite long (almost 2 feet heigh) when fully closed. Both of these need to be considered if you plan to trek some distance.(One thing to point out - it comes with an Allan key to to tighten things up. I found that this needed doing after a week of use. This was probably due to it going from 20C indoors to -5C outdoors several times each day, but for normal use it is handy to have.)

I was slightly sceptical of the quality of this tripod for the price but I am delighted that I bought it. It's a good weight and solid build and works very well for my needs as a very enthusiastic amateur photographer. It's nice and stable and easy to use and well packed. It also comes with a very nice carry bag. The only thing I would have liked to see in the box was some instructions of some sort but having said that it's not rocket science! I would recommend this tripod as a good all-rounder.

I really needed a tripod for my macro photography. Not being prepared to pay £300+ for one, I see this. Even with no reviews, it looked great. It arrived earlier today, I opened it up, got my camera out, and went to take some photos. IMPORTANT PART: There is no shake what so ever! It's truly amazing, The legs are strong, everything about it is.. unbelievable. And you can also get so close to the floor! Why pay £300+ for a tripod, when this is just as a good!-Amazed-Love it

This gets 5 stars simply for the great price. Had it been twice the price it would have been 4 stars. Not quite as sturdy as a Manfrotto and not as good build quality but then compare prices, however it is way better than some of the cheap ones you get of this design. The ball head is not for me as a three way is just so much easier to level up but could not find it supplied with a three way.Even with having to invest in a three way head this is still a total bargain.

This tripod was a complete surprise. I have a Mantona Scout tripod which has thin legs for the bottom sections and was expecting much the same, however this has nice chunky legs and the tripod seems rock solid. I was planning on using this as a support for a boom arm to carry a snooker ball for Reflectance Transformation Imaging, however after playing around with this I think the Scout will get that job and this one be used as the main tripod.

The order arrived very promptly.Huge box for a comparatively small item! The tripod seems to be very well put together and has a "quality"feel.Easy to set up and use.All of the adjustments are firmly held in place.Useful carry bag and allen key included.Would thoroughly recommend.I use this with my Canon EOS 7D with BG E7 battery grip and a Canon zoom lens EF 28 - 300 1:3.5 - 5.6 LAll held in place securely!

Very good tripod. Read the glowing reviews before purchase and am well satisfied that this tripod meets all the acclaim that it has already been given; a sound and steady tripod and EXCELLENT value for money. Ball head is an added bonus for the money but, as I have never used a ball-head before, I am still coming to terms with this action as opposed to a 'panning- handle'. Thoroughly recommend this purchase.

I had been looking for sometime at upgrading my tripod, and had read good & bad reviews regarding products which were £100 plus. Then I came upon Mantona (completely by accident). After reading the reviews and taking in the price, I went for it!Although I have only had it for 3 months it has turned out to be one of the best "buys" I made - it is excellent - well made, sturdy and well worth the money.

Does exactly what it says and easy to use - one mild complaint is that it included no instructions - but youtube videos sorted out any questions I had, bolts were very tight on opening and needed plyers to remove the ball head and central pillar but apart from that it is excellent i can get the camera lens to 1mm off the ground for macro and 1.5m plus for standard shots, quite light but very sturdy.

Wanted a tripod but didnt want to spend a great deal of money but also didnt want to buy cheap and get a load of rubbish.Read other reviews for this tripod and was well impressed when it arrived.Build quality is pretty good and it holds my Nikon without any signs of wobble etc and there is also a carry bag with itWould recommend this for anyone wanting a good quality tripod

Used it a few times and its a n ice substantial tripod. Still learning the ropes of photography at the moment but its doing great for me as a novice. Everything feels very solid with nice clips and buttons, and its adjust-ability makes it very versatile to use. The quick release head is a little fidly but onece you get used to it then its straight forward to use.

31.10.2015

It is light, which is exactly what I wanted as I have lugged heavy tripods around before and it's hard work. Ok...it might not be as stable as the heavier tripods out there on a windy day but you can always strap your camera bag to it. For day to day use and for ease of travel it's perfect and it fits nicely into the tripod holder on my Hama Daytour 180 bag.
