THIS REVIEW REFERS TO THE 6D VERSION-OTHER BULB/TORCH COMBINATIONS MAY GIVE A BIGGER PRO-RATA IMPROVEMENT.I've been a Maglite owner for over 20 years. In that time a lot of things have changed though most notably with the advent of cost-effective LED Technology. As a result Incandesent technology has very much taken a back seat. And Halogen or Inert Gas fulled bulbs may soon be a thing of the past. But for those owning a regular Maglite D series torch like I do, the MagNum Star bulb is a more expensive but a very wothwhile upgrade. For the curious, the bulb is filled with a heavier Inert gas Xenon rather than Krypton. This has the advantage of allowing the bulb to run at a higher temperature, drawing more juice but giving off a brighter, whiter light in the process. And it is more sturdy being better able to resist shock from impact. In practice?I purchased a MagNum Star bulb for my Maglite 6D Cell torch and it made a very worthwhile improvement. For starters there is about a 20% increase in overall brightness-very useful. The emitted light is also whiter over the regular Whitestar Krypton bulbs. The only drawback is that unlike previous editions, the design no longer incorporates a lens. This is a retrograde step IMHO.The lens had the big advantage of almost eliminating the traditional drawbacks of Maglites ie the comma shaped spot and the hole ridden flood. So whilst the beam is now brighter and whiter still, the artefacts have returned somewhat.Which is a shame. So the new version loses a star for that though the brightness is better.Best results are obtained with fresh top quality alkaline cells such as the Duracell Ultra M3-which I've found outstanding in the past. And another quick point, AVOID ZINC-CARBON BATTERIES LIKE THE PLAGUE! They will run down quickly and inevitably leak.Even so, for the asking price I would certainly recommend a MagNum star bulb over the regular Whitestar.A good overall and worthwhile improvement for all Maglite 'C' and 'D' users.

The first order took some time to arrives the firm sent another set of MagLite bulbs free of charge. Then the first order arrived and a day later the free lamps arrived. The firm was very good I said I would buy the free items and the firm knocked off a good bit and I paid the rest. I wish other firms I have dealt with would be so good and clear in their intent. I will certainly use this firm again.

Back in the old days (cue violins) we had a bulb.It was a small bulb, cost about £3 and lit up well.Ah ha, oh best beloved, now we have a Mag-Num Star Xenon Bulb For Mag Star Xenon which costs a dam sight more and does the same job. It's called progress.

As per recommendations, an excellent product that improves an already excellent product. The output has to be seen to be believed. Recommended.

Is brighter than original bulb but still does not compare to an led flashlight. However I dont own a maglite for its brightness.
