The story of how I came to buy one of these controllers is quite odd. A year or two ago, I was in the market for a new PS3 controller - as my DualShock Six-Axis crapped out on me. I searched Amazon high and low for a PS3 controller with 360 stick configuration, and wound up settling for the PowerA ProEX controller (and all the issues that came with it). Fast forward to about a month ago. I opened some random email from Amazon, and found this controller advertised within. Looking at the feature list, it seemed like the controller I'd wanted all my life. So I bought it.What's the skinny?Okay. First thing's first. With the weight cartridges inserted (which they are by default), it has a good heft to it.I've been let down by a few MadCatz products in the past (and I've been surprised by a couple too), and all of those had one trait in common: a lightweight, cheapy britches feel. This controller doesn't seem to fall into that category. Never use it without the weight cartridges. The modular sticks and D-Pads work quite well. Though, it seems kinda weird that you can only put a stick in the "right stick" position. I'd have liked to experiment with having a D-Pad there at least once. The sticks are ultra-responsive and allow for finessed movements. While some users have expressed displeasure with the size of the deadzone (stating that it's too small), I personally found that it's just right. It depends on how big you like your deadzone. I came off of using a Power A ProEX for a few years, so the small deadzone size was quite welcome as I no longer had to compensate for a lack of responsiveness in the stick. The only D-Pad I've even bothered to use so far was the PlayStation-style DPad. I've been playing Dragon's Crown, and I LOVE the D-Pad as I don't make as many errors when moving up and down the screen or inputting Brandish-Knee cancels. The shoulder buttons are phenomenal. They have a nice, stiff feel to them - like clicking a good mouse! I love it! I find that they're great for games that map evasion to the shoulder button as your finger has a much shorter distance to move to get that input to register. The triggers feel solid, and strike a good balance between having a bit of give and possessing firmness. The face buttons are a bit of an oddity. When you first use the controller, you'll notice that they feel a bit stiff and sticky. Initially, I had to double-tap buttons to get them to register. However, after about 15 hours of use, that problem seems to have gone away entirely. There's one small gripe I have with this controller. Either faceplate covering the lower left prong seems to jut out by less than a millimeter, and it's kind of noticeable when holding the controller. It's weird because that doesn't happen at all on the lower right prong - which feels more or less flush. It's just a really odd place to drop the ball.My other gripe isn't necessarily with the product itself, but rather with its availability. Why can't I find this thing in stores?I can't believe I love this thing. I just wish I'd have known about it sooner.

Given some of the more negative reviews I was worried about investing in this piece, but said worries seem to have stood on no foundation.A couple of factors to bear in mind here is that MLG is synonymous with first-person shooters and that, given the XBOX 360-esque shape of the controller, it wasn't designed for Batman or Grand Theft Auto. It is almost completely incompatible with driving, even in Battlefield. The reason I bought this item is that my DualShock had been intensively worn down over the course of a year and the viewpoint twitching that the right stick had been causing was getting annoying. For first-person shooting games, I just wanted something that wasn't disorientating and annoying.Like the majority of other reviewers here,I purchased a used MLG controller and so there is already some degree of wear and tear. One of the PS3 sticks are very faintly audible when it is pushed left and the left trigger has been vigorously broken in. Overlooking this, operating the controller is a very natural process and the shape and size don't cause many problems in the PS3 configuration. The L1/R1 bumpers are very easy to knock, however multiple professional reviews on IGN et cetera indicate that this issue is also due to the use the controller saw in the hands of the previous owner. The X360 modules had never been used, so I had a chance to experience the harshness of the 4 dots. They are far too pronounced for my taste and the length of the sticks as a whole is a couple of millimetres short of the PS3 sticks. The pronunciation of their concave profile really hindered my performance as manipulating them required a lot more effort. I don't believe that this issue is down to the condition of the PS3 sticks. For the overall quality of the controller the biggest disadvantage is the process of changing the configuration of the modules, doors and faceplates. They aren't excessively hard to install or detach, nor uncomfortable. The issue is that the process is so tactile. Initially, I just could not stop myself fiddling around with them between and during games. On a couple of occasions I would find myself running into a safe corner for a quick swap, hindering my performance. When I wasn't chopping and changing however, the controller did ease the process of killing the opposition. After about a month of getting used to the controller, I have concluded that the MLG controller did not improve my performance in Call of Duty, but the fact that I use it exclusively for first-person shooters does mean that the experience is one that is different from the rest of the games I play. The success that I enjoy more frequently is only a sensational change and not a numerical one. This is a good placebo controller.

I've had this controller for about a week now, and everything is completely satisfactory. i love the fact that if I want to switch from my PS3 layout to the Xbox layout, I can do it in seconds. This controller is a little pricey, so for those of you that are in the market for one of these, I will lay out some pros and cons.Pros:Durable (Dropped it twice, no scuffs, no cosmetic damage, no damage to the internal parts.)Customisable EVERYTHING (Literally, almost everything is customisable.)Kontrol Freek's fit perfectly (Expected this, but still very convenient.)Bumper to trigger switch (Very fast and convenient. All you have to do is hold down Start + Select to switch the bumpers to the triggers)Magnetized system (The magnets that hold the faceplate and shoulder covers on are high grade, easy to get off, but hard to accidentally remove during an intense game)Xbox profile (I've always preferred the Xbox controller feel over the dualshocks, but this does it even better)Rubberized Grip (Very good on the hands)Removeable Analog Sticks (For some reason, the Xbox analog sticks cannot be twisted off.)Buttons (Everything is clicky, and never sticks.)Cable (This controller is wired, but the cable is braided and screws into the controller.)Cons:Now I haven't really found any cons so far that bug my gaming standards, but some are present on the controller. The most notable one is adjusting to the controller. The travel on the analog sticks seems larger and more notable than either the Dualshocks or Xbox Controller. But that's such a minor issue that can be resolved by just adjusting. I was having trouble thinking of a con to this controller as I write this, and that so far has been my only issue.Extra notables: The controller can be customized almost everywhere, most of which can be purchased separately. Faceplates, Shoulders, and Analog sticks/D-pads are the more important ones, but if you like Kontrol Freek's but need them to be higher or lower for your needs, you can buy a sizer kit for the analog sticks. I believe they also sell a replacement cable if yours somehow gets hit by a 9mm bullet. But something tells me it'd even survive that. If you're in the market for a controller that meets the pro's standards, and are willing to pay a little extra, pick this baby up. Plus, being how durable it is, you'd be paying more replacing Dualshock after Dualshock for years on out. 5 stars right here, keep it up MadCatz!

If you've reached the end of the road with your PS3 because of where the functions are located on various buttons, when what you really want is a trigger, and was close to ditching the PS3 altogether in favour of an Xbox with its ergonomically designed controller, then this Madcatz is a viable alternative. Although, at an horrendous cost. Who on earth in their right mind would consider paying the best part of £100 for a controller? Although if you want to save your PS3 from the bin, there isn't really much alternative. Just about every other PS3 controller being offered by third party after-market suppliers are offered as cheaper replacements. At least the Madcatz goes some way in addressing the major issues with Sony's original offering.Which in my opinion is next to useless. At least the Madcatz offers a viable alternative to the Sony offering and gives the PS3 a new lease of life with triggers and buttons and the ability to switch functions between them. You don't have to look very far in the reviews and forums to realise there's quite a groundswell of apathy and anger towards Sony because of their insistence on retaining the original controller virtually unchanged since its introduction. When what is clearly needed is an evolution in the handling and operability. It's not as if Sony haven't had plenty of warning. The Xbox has been around now for what I assume to be two decades and in that time Microsoft have kicked the PS into the long grass. Simply by offering a more useable product that works in child and adult hands alike. And, has genuine buttons and triggers and functionality that all works intuitively. The Madcatz though is far from perfect. For instance their decision to leave out the rumble feature was a big mistake and is like telling us to go run and jump - if you want rumble, tough. Also apart from the horrendous cost, it has quality control issues like sticking triggers and jerky thumb sticks. My immediate reaction was to send it back for a replacement, but after having finally got my hands on it after much dithering and soul searching I decided on a little WD40 lubrication and luckily it now seems to work fine. Or maybe it just needs a little bedding in? Only time will tell. It'll be interesting to see what Sony offers with their new PS4. Whether they introduce evolution into their controller so it fits all sized hands and functions appropriately, or not.

I really want to like this controller. Build quality is much better than I expected, even at the premium price. The thing just feels solid. I play on both consoles, but more so on the PS3, so the feel of the controller isn't as awkward to me (although a dual shock user may feel differently). Being able to change the layout to my preference is a pretty nice feature (I currently have it in a PS3 layout with a mix of analogue sticks). Buttons feel like OEM, triggers are good, bumpers are clicky (kinda loud actually). The texture on the rear is nice and grippy. And the weight system just adds to the solidness. As others have stated, the PS3 style d-pad is not as responsive as the 360 style d-pad (not a big deal in most fps),hopefully they'll address this in future add ons. Now, my only real issue so far...The analogue sticks. This is the main reason this controller peaked my interest. Having gone through countless dualshocks (about 5 in 3 years), it was always the same issue. Too much sprinting in COD created a groove on the shaft of the left joystick which eventually lead to sticky movement and eventual failure of the L3 button. I've tried to replace them with another product called modsticks which are really great as they are machined from aluminium, however they really start to hurt your thumb after long gaming sessions. So now I have this controller. The analogue movement feels good and the click response is solid. It doesn't seem like it will have the same issue with the shaft, and if it does wear down it can be replaced. My only issue so far is adjusting to the sensitivity. Maybe they just need to be broken in, but they're not as loose as a stock ds3 controller, so it has somewhat affected my accuracy. I can't seem to compensate for it through the sensitivity settings in game either (usually play at 5, dropped down to 3-4 but it's still throwing off my game). I'll keep playing for now and see how it goes, I know I can adjust, but the process is frustrating. For all those who are hating on Madcatz for their reputation, this controller does not apply. If you've had a chance to play with a tournament edition fight stick, you'll know that they are capable of producing quality.

This controller is amazing! I have an xbox 360 and a PS3 and I prefer the 360 controller by far. It's nice to be able to configure the PS3 controller to the 360 setup. One of the most annoying things about the PS3 controller (other than the placement of the analog sticks) is having to aim and shoot with the bumpers instead of the triggers. The MLG controller fixes that in a very user friendly fashion. You only have to hold down the select and start buttons for a couple seconds and it switches the aim and shoot mechanic from the bumpers to the triggers. I can't tell you how much I love that! I play with my PS3 much more now because I have this controller. It feels substantial in your hands as well due to the weights it comes with. The fact that it's wired isn't an issue either. All I did was bought a USB extension and it extended the length of the wire for me. I have an 82' mitsubishi TV and my game/theater room is rather large (by most standards), so I need to sit pretty far away from the TV (about 12 or 13 feet). The USB extension extends it enough, so that there's plenty of slack between the PS3 and where I sit. Once again, I love it and I can't praise it enough. If you're on the fence, give it a shot and establish your own opinion. I was a little if-fy about whether I wanted to purchase it or not because of some of the reviews on this website, but I'm glad I tried it for myself. I would have missed out on an awesome peripheral otherwise.

Most people sneer at aftermarket controller and like to stay loyal to the originals however this one is like no other. The Mad Catz MLG controller has a very nice solid feel to it and has a very smooth soft textured bottom side which is only to love. The top side is glossy and can be change to a variety of fascias which aftermarket parts. All the buttons and analog stick feel very reinforced and sturdy and can easily be moved around and changed when you feel. The best thing about this is if you have a dodgy stick and you don't need to buy a new controller! The best feature of this controller is being able to switch between the two types of analog sticks - indented like Xbox controllers or The Regular PS3 "ball" sticks. There is a removable weight option, which to be fair is a little pointless as many used would just stick with the controller as it comes. The lead is very solid although the connection to the controller itself feels like it sticks out a bit too far. Included is a USB connection for any PC users out there so no need to worry. The MLG control is priced as a very premium control and would suit anyone who racks up many hours on there console and wants something that will last and be great to hold for long periods.Overall I am very impressed with this controller although for some people the price tag may be too high the majority would think it is worth every penny. An essential step up.

I've owned my Xbox 360 since 2006. I'm a very big fan of shooters and adventure games, such as Halo and Gears of War. In 2013 in bought a PS3 super slim, Uncharted and The Last of Us.Now I must say I really don't care for the Dual shock 3 controller for playing shooters, the analog sticks being right next to each other completely throws me off. So I purchased a Power-A brand of controller, which had the same layout as an Xbox controller would. However, there is one major problem that I have with playing a shooter on PS3. Outside of Call of Duty, a vast majority of PS3 shooters use the L1 button to aim and the R1 button to shoot. I extremely dislike this,it almost feels as though Sony did this just to be different from Microsoft. The Mad Catz MLG Pro Controller changes all of this. By simple holding the Select and the Start button you can flip the functions of L1 and R1 to L2 and R2. This is the only controller that will allow you to play shooters exactly like you would on Xbox 360.It just feels right, if you're a shooter fan then you simple have to buy this controller. If you're Xbox guy trying to bring his 360 shooter experience to the PS3, for whatever reason, then forget the Power-A brand. Forget any other brand, this is the controller you need. This is a shooter fan's must buy, trust me. However you can get it new or used, you'll love this controller.- Keller's Corner

Got two of these now and have been using one for well over a year, only recently picking up a second which I have now been using solidly for about 4-5 months. I was lucky to pick both up cheaper than the RRP; the first one was around £20 and the newer one was amazing value at under £9. And I'm not kidding when I say I find it so hard to go back to the Dualshock after using these. In fact it's hard to use almost any other pad after using these. There's no rumble feature, no Sixaxis and it is a wired pad, but they're just so comfortable and responsive for any type of game and have such a high quality feel. I switched the thumbsticks and D-pad around on mine to resemble the 360 style setup, and in my option they can't be beaten. Of course I've read some of the negative reviews, but I can only say my experience with these pads long term has been really positive, and I haven't had any of the issues I've read about, such as phantom inputs or thumbsticks rubbing away etc. And it's not like I've especially babied these things. They get a lot of use!I don't know anything about this MLG thing, but don't let that branding put you off. These are fantastic controllers and if you hang around, they sometimes go for a song on Amazon. ;-)

I don't know if "Major League gaming" is a real organization or something that the powers that be at Madcatz made up. I remember the Madcatz products of yesteryear &, to be blunt, they were lackluster. I got this one based on the recommendation of someone from an online community I got to know.To give you an idea of myself, I've been told since I was in Junior High that I've got "piano players hands". Needless to say the stock PS3 controllers are too small for me & quite painful to use after prolonged play. I also play fighters, & up to this point the 2nd party controllers on the PS3 have been questionable.Until now. This controller is sized like a 360 one,but thus far the Dpad & analogs are as responsive as the Sony stock controllers. Wired but the wire is 10ft in length. I've been using it with DoA5 & to a lesser extent SSFIV AE & some assorted other games. So far I'm pleased overall. Good weight, fairly good customization; big but not cumbersome to carry in it's bag. Madcatz did a good job on this. Minor gripe is that it doesn't turn on the PS3, but that's a minor quibble.

I had been looking and had been trying alternative controllers since a long time, as I don't like the PS3's original controller at all.I am mainly a FIFA series and adventures games player. Before purchasing this controller, I also considered the Gioteck GC-2, but then I just got the Mad Catz, since I thought the price was good value for money. The controller is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. The quality of all the buttons, triggers and sticks is premium. I am not a FPS player, but playing FIFA is a lot of stress on the controller and it seems, so far, that the Mad Catz has got what it takes to undergo the stress. My advice, if you are looking for an alternative controller for FIFA or for any other game (I don't see why it shouldn't work perfectly also with other games)is definitely to get it.Thanks Amazon for being quick and reliable as always.Cheers

In terms of build quality, this item is top notch. In terms of customisability it once again is also top notch. The thumbsticks feel nice and the pad is comfortable in the hand when in general use. I use it with all the weights added to make it feel a little more solid and frankly, premium, I guess. It comes with a bag to contain the controller and all the spare parts when not in use. The feel of the bag is arguably nicer than what you would expect to be honest. The only real niggle is a sizing issue. It is quite large. It doesn't really hinder the ability to use the controller, but smaller hands may not find it the easiest of controllers to use. For everyone else, it is a very good backup if nothing else. But one that doesn't need to be charged all the time too, which is a bonus.

After working my way through 3 dual shocks in 4 months I decided to make a change and picked one of these up for £26, I can see they are even cheaper today.Far outclasses the dual shocks, The build is sturdy and weighty, just what a fat handed buffoon like myself requires. The modular design is innovative and each module responsive. I have gone for the X Box 360 setup even though I have never owned an X Box.The negatives I guess are the lack of Six Axis (Which I never used), The wired connection (the wire is sturdy and the screw in connector a real touch cookie) and the lack of rumble (Which I miss, normally when I hit the post in FIFA). I can handle these for a top notch, mansized controller.May even buy another while they are cheap.

So I bought this controller because I really wanted to play The Last Of Us but I despise the standard PS3 controller. I swapped out all the sticks and the dpad for the Xbox versions and used the trigger swap feature to make the triggers the shoot/aim actions. It works great and does everything I expected it to. Overall I'd say it's worth it if you can afford it. I paid about $50 for it here on Amazon but I wouldn't pay the $100 retail price. Major cons: Wired controller with a short cord, the bumper buttons feel very clicky and kid of cheap, and the overall build quality vs the cost of the controller.

15.1.2014

I was a big fan of dualshock3. It's a nice and comfortable controller. However, as known, the triggers and sticks are slippery, and become more difficult to use as each gaming hour passes.Plus multiple of y dualshock3's have detached at the stick meaning the rubber rotates around the stick causing precision to be lost.Decided to get this on sae for the sake of it and was blown away by build quality. Instantly bought two. Now I never go back to the Dualshocks. As a side note my PS4 Dualshock's are amazing, everything the DS3s should've been.
