With the days drawing in (and the temperatures taking a dip) I've been reminded of the juggling required to dry larger items, such as towels, bedding and other linens.Trying to find a dryer / drying rack that was suitable for larger items (sheets, duvet covers, etc) was a bit of a challenge, without resorting to something that resembled a Mechano kit. This dryer from Leifheit was the first to come up in my search, and I'll admit that I've been really quite impressed with it so far. There's no assembly required, with just a case of removing the simple packaging and folding it out, ready for use.The first time of setting up was the only worry, as there's no single `fixed' position for the legs.I'm assuming that there's little stepped adjusters inside the joints, but this offers a reasonable range of adjustment and appears to stable (no mishaps yet), even when loaded down with a full load of damp washing. There're two, clever, little plastic clips on one rail, which are intended for socks and delicate items. I have to admit that it took me a moment to work out what they were for, but it's actually a great idea, that saves space on the frame for larger items, while getting everything aired and dry.The inner runs are adjustable (not for length, but for the width between runs), by sliding the plastic ends into position. The frame folds, almost flat (It slots, side one, in a space next to my washing machine, when not in use).Construction seems solid and weighty, which I find quite reassuring. Although, I've noted that my folks (into their retirement years) like the idea, but did think it a bit awkward (they would have to lay it on its side to sort the legs), a little heavier than they expect. It's also worth noting that, when full extended, it takes up quite a bit of room. I don't find it a problem though, as it offers a great solution to getting all the washing dried indoors.

DIMENSIONS:Height - 87 cm with wings folded; 105 cm with wings unfoldedWidth - 55 cmLength - 95 cm with both wings folded; 157 cm with both wings unfoldedRoom on lines - 15 mCan be folded up when not in use. This is a well designed bit of kit - simple to use with intuitive, handy features.I live in a very small flat, so the first thing I noticed was its size. It's big - very big! Larger than my computer desk, in fact. So it takes up a lot of room but it also stores a lot of washing. Previously I had to wash one load at a time because I could only fit so much on my old clothes horse. And shirts would end up hung from the frame of my shower door! So while this unit is big,it has enough room for more than one load & can fit all my shirts without me having to convert the bathroom into an improvised laundry! It has lots of handy features yet is straightforward to use. The only problem I had was that the first time I tried it, it seemed unstable but then I figured out that you have to pull the legs far enough apart that you can feel them click into place & it was fine then. The space between the lines can be adjusted & this is done by just sliding them along the rail. Plus it's not shown in most of Amazon's pictures above but one one side has some red plastic clips for holding small items like socks & underwear. This is great for maximizing space, since such items took up a lot of line space on my old dryer. An added bonus is that my clothes are definitely drying faster than they did on my old clothes horse! It's very good at what it does & the 3 year guarantee is very reassuring. It may seem expensive for what it is before you've seen one but once you have, you can tell it's a quality item. And having such a long guarantee takes the edge off. I can't see any downside to this product.

Out with the old, in with the new.I have limited radiator space for drying laundry in the winter months and so I have been using a cheap collapsible clothes frame to dry and air my laundry. The Leifheit is not rocket science but it is the best airer / dryer I have ever seen or used.It is extremely well made, I mean really solid and oozes quality and style. You start from the folded position which is 9cm thick and means you can hide it away easily. To unfold you pull out the two legs which click into position and leaves the drier free standing at waist height. Two more wings unfold and click into place as per the pictures.Your drier is assembled in 20 seconds tops. The centre lines slide, allowing easy adjustment for airflow or thick towels etc. There are a series of small red clips on one side to hold socks, hankies and the like which I think is a nice touch. It dries a full load of laundry faster and is a joy to use compared to cheaper more flimsy alternatives. Now it is quite large but fits well in my conservatory, however I would suggest checking the measurements as this uses width as opposed to height and needs over a couple of meters of clearance to fit comfortably. In summary this is a high quality, very well made, stable clothes drier that is easy to use and a real boon especially when you can't use the outdoors clothes line and sunshine to dry laundry. It has a 3 year guarantee and whilst I have not used this for very long I am extremely confident that this will be problem free. It's the Rolls Royce of indoor clothes driers and I would strongly recommend it.

It's been hissing down for the past 10 days so there is no way that the laundry could be hung outside to dry and with illness in the house the washing was piling up - action had to be taken. When we received this airer/dryer it was heavier than I thought it would be (heavier than our old one). The previous one (which had been my Mother's) was thin metal frame with nylon covered wires - this one has a more solid feel.It has metal legs and metal long bars, the ends are a thick plastic-type material (as are fold out ends). It is impossible to tell if the joints are all plastic or metal disks inside plastic but they seem to be quite strong. The drying lines, which are moveable/adjustable,appear to be cables inside a poly-plastic type covering. Please don't let the mention of plastics put you off as it feels quite sturdy.Leifheit have given the dryer a 3 year guarantee to add to your sense of belief in the new dryer. There are 2 groups of attached red pegs on one edge (though they can be removed and reattached) which you can use for your socks, undies and other small bits and pieces. The dryer copes well with a full load, and the adjustable lines mean that you can determine the space between your clothes and so the air flow for drying.Fortunately, especially if you are short of space, the dryer will fit into the standard bathtub to save space.I can highly recommend this if you are looking for a way of drying your clothes which, in the long run, works out a lot cheaper than running an electric dryer.

The design of this clothes rack means that items are separate from each other rather than resting against each other as they do in a traditional concertina style rack. This means that things dry much more quickly, and I'm finding I'm using the tumble dryer considerably less than I used to. There's loads of space on it - I'm easily able to spread out a big load, or can get two medium loads on with still enough room for the items to air. There are also little clips along one side that will hold socks or underwear. The frame is well built and folds down very neatly to a size that's easy to store. On opening, though, it is pretty huge - and this is its one drawback for me.The footprint is roughly 22" by 51" with the wings closed, and 61" with them open. It takes up more room than I really have available in my fairly small kitchen, so I have to put it up in my living room - not ideal, and therefore for me it gets only 4 stars. However, if my kitchen was large or I had a dedicated laundry room, then this would be great and well worth 5 stars. Two small points - when opening it, the legs need to be firmly clicked into position. It can seem as if they're open, but unless you hear the click the thing will be unstable. Secondly if you don't need to use the wings then they can be folded back over the top once you've hung your stuff on the middle rails - this makes the rack a foot or so less wide if space is a problem.

I didn't really think that I could write a ravingly enthusiastic review about a clothes dryer, but I am happy to have been surprised by this one.A HUGE package arrived at my door and I wondered what on earth it was. Opening it, I realised that it was this very clothes dryer. Definitely a step up from my previous IKEA-bought clothes drying racks (now aged and tilting to one side, with wonky folding mechanisms and a hint of rust). This one is very solidly put together - though not heavy. It boasts a seriously space-efficient design, with a huge number of rungs to hang things from. It clicks into place with a solid, trust-worthy 'clunk' and certainly won't accidental collapse under the weight of your wet clothing. The rungs can be rearranged with more of less space between them, in case you want to customise this somehow (more space for towels; less for hankies?) And the side airers maximise the space very nicely.Really, for something that boasts such a mammoth amount of drying space, this folds down to a surprisingly neat and tidy size - totally flat and can sit against the wall. Highly recommended. I was dubious about the price, but I can actually see that this is worth it. Totally low-tech, yet beautifully designed and user-friendly.

How do you start a review about a clothes horse?.... How about... GOOD!This is a really nice clothes horse, the legs come down and click into place with a satisfying feel, the fastenings and horizontal wires spacing being changeable is great, you can put blankets over as easily as a long shirt. The feet also have plastic footings to give a grip on tiled floors like ours, so it doesn't skid about. So, glowing review, so why have I knocked a star off?.. Well, the latching legs extending is hardened plastic and I doubt how long they'll last, also the horizontal wire spacers are plastic as well, so again how long will they last? They feel robust, but you just know they've a finite life span.I suppose one could argue its unfair to judge too soon on life span, but experience tells me to beware, and as such I'd say this product does feel like it'll last longer than a cheaper one from down the corner shop, but it does not feel like it'll last a life time without extreme care, and this is a laundry item, so its going to get dragged about, folded away and loaded down with wet laundry. The metal tubing will last, the wire is string & firm... but the plastic... hmmmm...

This clothes horse has had a lot of thought put into the design. The only slight problem is unfolding it; although it's very light, the long legs become difficult to manipulate if you're small. They lock into standing position without needing much strength, though. It stands about 30" tall, which gives floor clearance for things to hang, with two flap on each end for longer or bulkier items. There's a red plastic attachment which clips onto the frame which serves as a holder for socks and small bits and pieces - very useful. If you live somewhere where space is at a premium, this is ideal. It folds up flat, and is easy to put in a cupboard to store.Pros and cons:PROS:+ Lightweight but sturdy+ Holds a lot of clothes+ Easy to adjust+ Tall enough for clothes to avoid contact with the floorCONS- Slightly unwieldy when you fold it out. I felt like Mr. Bean when I tried for the first time.Overall - no doubt about it - this is an excellent (if slightly expensive) product.

This is a very handy indoor clothes dryer, which is light to carry, folds up to be stored away and will easily sit on a balcony or even stand in the bath, if you are short of space. It says the dryer will take 1-2 lots of washing. Obviously, that depends on how many people are in your family - there are five in my household and it held one lot of washing comfortably. You can vary where you place the bars, depending on the size/thickness of the item, and it has two fold out sides which are flexible - this is handy if you want to dry trousers or a skirt, as you can lift it slightly and allow them to dry straight. One side of the dryer also has two sets of red clips, in which you can hang socks and other small items.Overall, this is a really useful item, especially if you are short of space. I can imagine it would also be excellent for anyone using a wheelchair, as it is easy to use whilst sitting and is light and simple to assemble.

It's a clothes airer, and that isnt the most exciting product, but I'vehad a few airers overthe years and if you need one, you also needit to work properly. This looks quite sturdy, and I like the "tabletop"format better than thr gate fold type where everything hangs down over the stuff below, so a good start there. Opening it up feels uncomfortable though, the legs dont want to come out and you have to force them a bit. Maybe theres a knack. Once up its easy toLoad thanks to the sliding bars which mean you can thread things thru then move the bars along. The little red plastic clip thing alongone side certainly grips undies and small items, but I dont know if it might wear or damage delicates if you weren't careful; its quite a fierce grip and you have to sort of pull things out by force. On the whole though it seems solid and quality and the name Leifheit is one I trust.

For the long winter nights I suppose there are only 2 alternatives, a tumble drier or an indoor clothes airer and with the cost of energy the indoor clothes airer seems to be the cheaper alternative and there does not appear to be anything to fault with this airer from Leifheit. It easily hold the amount of washing that my 30 foot outdoor clothes line can take, it is lightweight and easy to put up, folds quite flat for easy storage, it is very stable and has adjustable "rungs" in the middle part for thicker items, stand quite a way of the floor so that the washing does not droop onto the floor, especially as the two ends are raised to help with longer items and finally there is a nifty set ofplastic pegs along one side for dangling small items such as socks.Maybe a tad expensive but definitely worth the money and definitely a five star product.

I never thought a clothes dryer could be exciting, but this is pretty much the nearest thing to one that there is : it has a large footprint (roughly the same size as a bathtub), but on the other hand, had plenty of coverage with several adjustable drying bars which is absolutely ideal for large and small items, as well as two fold out bars with several strips within and some handy extra attachments for socks etc. It does the job well, and efficiently. About the only thing I would change would be the two legs - with rubberised feet - would also contain bars to hang even more items from. That said, it folds out quickly and adjustable, and is very durable, so ideal for most uses.A great tool.

I have been really impressed with this item. It may seem a little pricey but it's clear that you get what you pay for. My previous supermarket effort collapsed easily under a full load, but this dryer is strong and well made. It is adjustable for different size items and the clips for socks etc is a great idea. It's not too big and so can fit easily into a bedroom or even in the bath if space is limited. It also feels secure enough to be able to be used outdoors (weather permitting!). So if you want a great quality dryer that will last, and are a bit hesitant about paying this price - don't hesitate - it is a top quality item that should last for years.

I have purchased many other brand "concertina" type clothes airers that never lasted very long (including the very expensive ones) and didn't hold "smalls" very well. I was therefore looking for something that was more robust and adaptable that would meet my needs. The Leifheit has adjustable bars that you can hang items on, and also has grippers that you can slot smaller items into, such as socks, underwear etc. It also folds up and takes up very little space. All in all, an excellent quality product that is versatile and would be as at home in a bedsit/flat as it would be in a family home. - So glad I now have this dryer!

This is a great clothes airer. Easy to open and close, though I didn't realise at first that the legs clicked open to make it completely sturdy, it felt very wobbly and was a bit of a leap of faith to push it that extra bit further but now it's as solid as can be and I can even pop it in the bath if I want it out of the way. It doesn't fit perfectly in there but well enough to make do.It is very long when completely open so you want to check the measurements and make sure it's what you want but tucks away neatly when folded. I'm very pleased with it so far and get the feeling it will be around for many years to come.
