WHAT I THOUGHT:As the title suggests, this is pretty much a Metal Gear solid-like game on a budget, it doesn't have the prettiest graphics in the world, not the greatest combat or even the greatest game mechanics, and yet, for some unexplainable reason i actually really love this game, maybe because i have tolerance for Japanese quirkiness and how they design a lot of their more budget titles (games like Deadly Premonition, Earth Defense Force, any SUDA51 game, etc are some of my favorites, although don't compare those to this .. at least not entirely) there is just something here that appeals to me.I think perhaps what i like the most is that it reminds me of the kinds of games i grew up with on the PS2/PS3 era of gaming, this is a kind of game that probably wont exist in a large quantity in the future as gaming rears it's ugly head towards games that specifically are designed as "games as a service" and just exclusive multiplayer experiences, which is probably when i will cut out games entirely as i myself prefer a great single-player experience, which is TO ME what this is.After the first chapter finishes, which serves as a tutorial, you have pretty much seen what you're about to do for about 15 hours, but is repetitive gameplay really so bad? isn't every game repetitive after at least the first few hours you spend with it? most of them are, it's not a repetition problem, more of a "is this repeition fun?" kind of problem, and i thought it was fun albeit also very frustrating at times.THE GOOD AND THE BAD:I personally really like the atmosphere of the game, play this game with headphones on and with dimmed lights, i also really like survival games, you will be picking up guns and ammo, and bits and pieces to create different grenades, traps, enemy sensors, and etc in big sprawling maps.I also like the story, a little cliched, but by far way, WAY ahead of most triple A stories that are just latched unto a much bigger multiplayer game or something, i really liked it.Mecha/Wanzer combat was a little difficult to get into at first, but when i got better at it, it was actually pretty fun, unfortunately these sections are very rare in the game. but if there's a sequel, then there is potential for a more fleshed out system with it integrated. And now unto the bad stuff, the things i downright hated, most of the complaints i've heard are about the gunplay and the AI, and... it's really bad, when you're being shot at, it's pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to land any sort of lethal hit, you WILL have to stay in cover untill an enemy stops firing or have to reload, which i guess is supposed to add some realism.. maybe? the AI is far from realistic though, it's honestly all over the place, some of it can actually be really hilarious, enemies might run right past you during a fire fight and take cover on the other side of the map (happened to me several times during the game,) they might never spot you if you hide behind cover, despite the fact that they walk by you several times because the draw distance for them to see you is so short that you can actually just stroll past most enemies in general. And should you happen to actually get spotted, you can just run away for a bit, and they'll go back to their guarding post again like nothing happened. But the greatest sin that this game has, is the AI companion you have with you, i just wanted to mute the thing throughout most of the game, as it will remind you constantly about enemies getting nearer, EVEN IF by intention you sneak up on someone to take them out, it will constantly remind you how an enemy is approaching, it is pretty much the worst thing about this game, the game is honestly okay otherwise.CONCLUSION:get this game when it's on a sale, some of the guys that worked on this also worked on the Metal Gear Solid franchise (which is obvious from the art and character designs) and if we ever see a sequel then there is room for improvement, hold you expectations low and you will probably get some enjoyment out of it.Out of 10 i'd probably give it a 7.5 or a more generous 8.----------TL;DR----------This game is a perfectly fine MGS clone on a budget with an annoying AI companion, mediocre combat and enemy AI, but a decent story with addictive survival gameplay and alright Mecha/Wanzer combat.Remember the game "Alpha Protocol"? Remember "The Division"? alright, take those and blend it with Metal Gear Solid, that's this game.

Having seen many reviews of this game I was incredibly apprehensive, however, having played it I'm baffled by how much negativity it has recieved. Many reviews mock the graphics as being dated and early PS3-esque, this is blatantly untrue and it looks as good as any other AA budget game of this generation. Games like Drakengard 3 and The Quiet Man have seemingly reviewed better despite being utterly broken technically at launch and in some cases never fixed, this is unbelievable as Left Alive runs perfectly on a base ps4. With regards to complaints about ai, your mileage may vary as in some cases the detection range of ai in stealth heavy sections does seem to be inconsistent however it is never unfair or game breaking as some say and doesn't warrant such a negative review. The only criticism I can agree with is that the animations are 'janky', there is certainly a stiffness to some movement animations such as sliding and swinging however this is barely noticeable and shouldn't bother the average player.I feel that the game is entertaining and keeps you hooked quite well. I personally love the challenge of trying to work out the routes to most effectively take and the trial and error involved with this. The mech sections are also great fun to break up the action and run very smoothly, unlike some may suggest. I think the music is also excellent and I have no idea what irks some people with regards to sound design. The voice cast is also comprised of some excellent industry veterans who deliver solid performances.Honestly I've never been in a position before where I've been completely unable to fathom the criticism levelled at a game and I certainly believe it is unfair and unwarranted. I can only conclude that the people reviewing this product harshly are simply not the target audience.I think this game is great fun and I strongly advise people interested to give it a go and to not be dissuaded by overly harsh reviews. If anyone apprehensive is still interested i suggest waiting for a sale and picking it up as you may find it is much better than expected and you come to really enjoy it!

Hated this game at first, found everything about it really annoying, it wasn't until recently that a few more difficulties got patched that I started to enjoy it on a lower difficulty, the story is quite fun too.
