It's not often I write reviews unless i am compelled to stick up for something that has been unfairly slated. Lair is one of these games and ive absolutely no idea where the bad press is coming from! Maybe Microsoft have asked every employee to slate a rival game perhaps!!??From the very beginning it is very clear that the producers have spent an aweful lot of money on this title from the overall presentation. The sound is THX certified and is absoutely top notch. The graphics are rich and full of fantastically detailed environments that stretch to the horizon line. It is a game in my opinion which captures the dragon fantasy element very well. Now for the controls. We've not yet seen a full six-axis title until now and what better application for it. Many people say the dragon is uncontrollable but this is total and utter nonsense unless your head is stuck in the toilet.- Im a good portion into the game now and the dragon flys fine as long as you remember that you are indeed flying a dragon and not an F15! When you tilt the controller there is a slight delay but it adds to the feel as your dragon lumbers through the air. It gives a much more authentic experience. My only gripes so far are that you sometimes aren't sure how to complete your objectives but when you replay the missions (to earn better medals) it is no real issue. I can sometimes lose my bearings but it's something you quickly get used to. Melee combat with other dragons is also a bit of a shallow process. This is certainly a title with a good learning curve as it is hard in certain places but once you get masterful you should thoroughly enjoy it.Ive no idea where Gamespot got 4.5/10 from as that is totally wreckless and inaccurate. Any scores lower than this are totally moronic so don't listen... My take is that if you are intrigued by the idea of this game then buy it and you shouldn't be disappointed. Its innovative, beautiful and fun.

Firstly, let me get one thing clear, the game is extremely better than what some reviewers have given it. I mean the same could be said with the wii, first time I played it I thought it was crap, especialy when you've played with a controller. Anyway, after a few good hours, I will admit it is an excellent game. The graphics are great, the game itself is challenging and has a good shelf life.I will admit you need to give it sometime, timing is the key and the gesture system is great. I like the other games that allow to use the siaxis for only certain elements of a game, but this is all sixaxis, apart from when you are battling on ground. Another thing I must point out is that you don't need to go mental on the sixaxis,as it is very responsive, just gentle movements of the sixaxis will make your dragon move, think of it in terms of a dragon, strong, powerful but yet gentle and swift. I let my wife play and she just went mental with the sixaxis and she got nowhere in the game.People may not like it as you need to forget to learn to use the analogue sticks, which like me can be daunting at first, but after 2-3 hrs I was mastering the skies and the manouvers. It is a great game with beautiful visuals. As I say, don't knock it till you've played it for a good few hrs continously.I still don't understand what the reviewers were reviewing as it's utter rubbish what they have claimed. To be honest most of the reviewers now-a-days only play 2/3rds of it and rush it, so they end up slating it. Rather than spend quality time with a game and truly master it.Do yourself a favour and order it, trust me you will be suprisingly amazed, this is what the ps3 sixaxis was made for!Kudos to the developers to try something different and truly succeed, sad fact is they got lynched by incompetent reviewers, who can't find there **** from there elbow.

Having played the first few levels I have to say that this game really is quite good. The control system is very good and intuitive despite what some of the reviewers have said about it. There's a training ground for you to get to grips with the SIXAXIS flight controls which I did a couple of times.Once you get into the game proper, you're treated to some very nice cutscenes and then straight into battle. The controls are pretty easy to pick up and after a few minutes I was owning the skies on my trusty steed!I must say that I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews but they disappeared as soon as I started playing it. Like I said,I've only played the first few levels but there seems to be some good replay value as you get awarded medals depending on how well you perform as well as new attack moves and secret unlockables. I will surely keep going back till I get all the golds and extra unlocks. You can connect online and see your world ranking and compare stats which adds a little competition to the game. For any of you wondering whether to take the plunge and get this game, I would recommend it without hesitation. So if you don't want to wait until late October when it's released in the UK, go and and import it from the US.The only question left unanswered is how long the game will take to complete but to be honest, if I get 10 hours gameplay from start to finish I'd be happy, plus there's the replay factor. So to finalise, I'm very happy with my latest purchase and it will keep me busy until Heavenly Sword arrives. So guys please don't listen to all these bad reviews as this is a really good game that just takes some getting used to the Sixaxis first or you won't enjoy it.

When I read the reviews to this game it was after I had actually bought it so I was gobsmacked by how bad they were!First off THE DRAGON IS CONTROLABLE!!! Loads of reviews are saying that the dragon is impossible to control and it doesn't work. What happened with me was my controler actually wasn't working so the dragon kept flying upwards. I was really bugged by this and frustrated but i tried the other controller and-hey-it started to work! NOT GAME-CONTROLLER! please check before you give up. It took me about 30 mins to master the controls and it is really easy after that! Rise up to the challenge! The one thing everyone agrees on is the graphics, which are amazing!Every detail is toned to look lifelike with shadows and reflections and everything. The graphics are also amazing in the story scenes that you occasionly watch. Music is also suited to the scene and good.Another good thing about it is the amount of levels. There are loads of levels to work through and with a medal systm you can go back and strive for the gold, unlocking art work and battle moves as you do so! You can compare youratatus online aswell so that you always aim higher. One downside I would say is that the end level is easier then the begginging ones. Though good none the less! So TRY IT before you get turned away by these horrible reviews!

With this game I did not unfortunately buy it from amazon, but I would recommend that you buy it from amazon. This game is good value for money and worth an addition to any PS3 collection. Now, with regards to controlling the dragon in the game, once you have done the practice level and first level you are more than prepared to soar through the air and the controls are easy to grasp. Even getting used to banking by tilting the remote rather than using a button comes easily. By the second level I was blasting dragons out of the air, landing on the ground, chewing soldiers and grabbing people off the ground to discard them into the distance. The first level dragon fight can be a bit frustrating as you are getting used to how to fight with your dragon in the air, but it is not so bad that you want to give up on the game after ulling yourhair out. For the people that find the controls hard, I have to say, what the hell is wrong with you! :)The story is standard but not so that you are put off by what is happening, the graphics are good to watch on HDTV.I recommend that you buy this game, give it a try, for £8 what do you lose?

First off this game got mixed to poor reviews from critics when it first came out as there was no alternative to using the sixaxis which can be cluncky and unresponsive at times however since the games release factor 5 patched the game allowing you to change to regular analog controls making the contols much easier. Now the game itself is great, if you ever played any of the star wars rogue sqadron games on N64 or Gamecube(also from factor 5) then you know exactly what you're in for. From the menus right down to the gameplay and even how you choose which dragon to use, it's all ripped right from those games given a medieval/fantasy overcoat and delivered in HD to your PS3.If this game had the option for analog control from the start the critic reviews would have been much better. This game is a hidden gem of the PS3 and i highly recommend it if you enjoyed the rouge squadron games or like dragons and the fantasy setting or both of the above especially now you can grab this game at less than a tenner.

If you like combat flying simulators - especially the Rogue Squadron trilogy + Battle for Naboo - you'll most likely love this one. As the last game Factor 5 developed before they restructured the company, and as an early title meant to show the power of the PS3, it's as much eye candy as you would expect it to be.I haven't played the game that much yet, but the first few levels were fun enough. The controls seem to take some getting used to, but thankfully you can turn off the six-axis gimmick thing if that's how you prefer to play the game. I really enjoy the attention to detail, and I almost sense a passion from the developers when I'm playing. So yeah, this is a VERY personal opinion, but I sincerely believe this game should be worth a try to most people, especially for those of us who enjoy flight simulation.

I was just reading the reviews today and I was really suprized at the 1 star ratings and 2 star ratings. This is a really good game. The graphics are amazing and crisp even on my 16" Acoustic Solutions SD TV. The controls ARE annoying but you can easily master the controls after 30 minutes of playing. It can just get a little repetetive but then the great dragon battles and challenging bosses swoop straight in and make it exiting!Overall 5/5Fun 3/5Gameplay 4/5Graphics 5/5Storyline 3.5/5By the way, this game really should get more as the graphics are crisp and you can disable six-axis in the Options tab, making the dragon more controllable. Also,I really do think the characters/humans look realistic.

I guess thats all i have to say really, its got big dragons, awesome graphics, Yes, even back in 2007, this game looked pretty awesome, and still does.Plenty of action, plenty of gorgeous looking cutscenes, and plenty of action again. Its a shame that there wont be a LAIR 2. this game deserves a sequel. If like me you aim to have a good lot of PS3 exclusives in your collection, then this is one of the best ones to have amongst them..............................For some reason, people always mention the crappy controls, even when i tell them they can use the analogue sticks now, they still come up with something negative to say.

I purchased this game just a couple of days ago and yet I'm addicted already. A few people have complained about the controls but i find it a nice challenging aspect of the game. I've only completed about 10 levels so far but already really enjoy the plot, the characters, graphics and of course the gameplay itself. So to those who are not sure wether to get it or not because of people complaining about the controls give it a go! I highly recommend its very fun and like I said fairly challenging and should keep you amused for many hours as it has with me :)

I actually had a lot of fun playing Lair, all the central gameplay was fun and interesting, and the controls which were originally infuriating have been somewhat fixed, they can still be annoying at times, but certainly do not get in the way any more. This leaves you with what the core of the game s about, riding dragons and breathing fire on things, which is always fun.

13.8.2009

Had great fun with this game. Controls are different and take a little adjusting to, but work well once you get the hang of them. Nice graphics, fun levels. It may have been a little short for a full price game but it is an absolute bargain now.Personally I'd like to see a sequel as I'm sure there is a lot more that could be done with dragons.

29.4.2012

The game is a fun hack and slash game where you ride a dragon and fight. The game itself is great but the controls are complicated and take a lot of getting use to. Also the game is hard and is not for your young gamers as their is a lot of blood and violence. Overall this game is pretty good.

I just recently bought this game and am having so much fun with it.The control movment that controls you'r dragon s intence, it makes you feel like you'r in the game. I would suggest you buy this game if you like action/adventure games cause this game is packed with action.
