For those that do not know, MAG is an MMOFPS (Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter) that supports battles of up to 256 players. THERE IS NO SINGLE PLAYER!THE GOODControls are great. Those that are saying the controls are bad are people that haven't given it the time to get used to them or because they are used to playing other FPS games. NEWS FLASH people ALL FPS's have different controls, just because they aren't the same as your favourite FPS doesn't mean they are bad controls! CoD, MAG, Killzone 2, Halo, Medal of Honour, ALL OF THEM have DIFFERENT controls you just need to get used to them IT ISN'T HARD.Player customization is pretty good. You can customize your appearance in battle and unlock new outfits and items as you level up. You can equip your character with which weapons and accessories you'd like to use or which are appropriate to your spec. By spec I mean specialization, anyone that has played RPG's or MMORPG's will be familiar with this, especially World of Warcraft players. MAG uses a series of routes you can specialize down, but as you will gain a max of 59 skill points you cannot go down every route.Maps are large and in the 256 player battles different squads starting points makes battles new and refreshing as each defensive/offensive area looks slightly different. For example, if you are on defence in First Platoon Alpha squad one match, and then next time your defending you are in Fourth Platoon Delta Squad you will spawn in an area that looks slightly different to your previous defensive game.Respawn times. These are a good thing, makes you attack in waves and as a team. And NO there are no 40 second respawn times. The MAX is 30 seconds and that is only when the enemy is causing a blockade that increases it. The normal respawn time is 20 seconds but that is ONLY IF you die and bleedout when the timer has just reset. And your commander can slash it down to 10 seconds.Squad/Platoon/Commando abilities are great fun to use and can change the tide of the battle dramatically if used correctly and can be a pain for the opposing team.THE BADThere is lag now and then, but that is to be expected with 256 players in one battle until they manage to tweak it.If your team aren't using microphones it can lower the experience of the game, but you can still have fun.MANY times you will be attacked from behind, as there are enemies everywhere. (Personally this isn't an issue with me)FINAL NOTESIf you love the Call of Duty multiplayer (I personally think it is terrible), DO NOT compare this game to CoD. Your just a fool if you do. This game is like BATTLEFIELD games except on a much larger scale. This game requires a brain and some skill to play, again if you are used to playing CoD multiplayer you are most likely not going to like this game. If you play something like WoW you will be used to the respawn times and running in and dying then back to waiting to respawn.

After playing one of the early beta phases, I was not impressed with this game. My main concern was how quick I was leveling up through the ranks; I now know that developers do this to give you a better feel of how the game will play. So on hearing this, I decided to hang up my MW2 boots and give MAG another go.First impressions; The graphics, I found quite good, I like the gritty and murky look it has, yes they're not as good as MW2, but still they're pleasing on the eye. Character models are decent too, Though I do have some gripes with some animations, for instance, going to and from the iron sight is quite clumsy looking. And throwing of the grenade just looks retarded.Game play; I'm now around 20 or so hours into the game. The first few hours you'll spend most of your time, playing suppression ( Team death match ) 64 players 32 on each side, all from the same faction. Basically it's where you can get used to firing and aiming your weapons also you can play sabotage (not really fussed on this game mode. Then at around level 8 (I think it was ) the other game modes are unlocked. Acquisition- which is either defend your vehicles or capture the enemies OR Domination (my fav) 256 players fight to secure and hold 8 targets. The first 6-10 hours can be quite confusing and you'll probably die alot, but you got to keep going and you will get better. A major problem at the moment is that MAG is based on team work and if your squad ignores this fact you WILL lose. People not using the mic is another downer and squad leaders not issuing the Frago points correctly is a pain. But the game is still in it's early days and I think soon it will become much better. Anyway, when you find your self in a good squad, battles can be epic. I've never experienced some of the matches I've had in MAG on any other game. Sure, there are some crappy games, but when you and your team know what they're doing they're epic. My faction at the moment is Raven. S.V.E.R are probably the best faction at the moment, there is debate on forums to whether this faction has an unfair advantage and easier map setups. I don't know if it's true, but they seem to win most matches they play in. I just hope everyone new and and even the Vets don't flock to them. Can't be good. All in all for me, MAG is a five star game. Yes it has some issues, but what this game has to offer is amazing. Factions, the shadow war and epic online wars. Hopefully zipper will release more weapons and maps, bringing more to the table. Perhaps they could look into the S.V.E.R debate and tell us once and for all if they're over powered creating game imbalance. MW2 fanatics may not like this game either as it's a much much more difficult game to get a handle of and running about mindlessly in MAG will only get you killed. If the low ratings of some of the reviewers here deter you a little, then at least rent it.

As someone with lots of experience with fps since the very beginning and clan experience in pc fps I have to say this the best online fps I have played in recent times.I took part in the beta and that was quite rough which resulted in me not buying the game at first. Recently got the game last month through pure luck. Feeling tired of the current crop of fps there has not been much in the way of fresh ideas or advancement. I was quite pleased and surprised to learn that the game has been very well made and tweaked to perfection after release. Gone are the silly issues in the beta and now we have possibly the most balanced set of abilities in any fps.First aspect of the game to point out that its very tactical.Easily the most tactical fps to date. So good leadership and teamwork are key. This is not Call of Duty neither is it Bad Company or Killzone. Having said that dont be intimidated, there is alot to aid you from a special 3d map to the HUD displaying what you need to know. The objectives are always clear and the game types allow for different playstyles. Also Feel free to tell people you are new and many should help if you are confused. The community is quite nice. The game modes are brand new and not retreads of what already exist. This in a large part helps the game feel fresh as old game modes are rather tiring now and mostly designed for basic deathmatch fps not games like MAG.The maps are huge but extremely well designed. There is alot of cover unlike more recent fps. You have room to sneak around as well as going run and gun or lone wolf. Guns are used better than other games as there is room for each ability. For example long range assault rifles with scopes have genuine use over red dot sight or snipers where in other games would be the snipers job. Snipers go even further in MAG where you literally almost see tiny dots, fortunately you have different scopes and a variable scope too. I hope that gives an idea of scale and weapon balance. But everything is there and has good use allowing lots of playstyles. On the downside I recommend new players to avoid Valor. They are quite disorganised! Graphics are weaker than many fps but that because of the sheer scale which makes it very impressive. Amazingly its not that far behind Call of Duty in looks. Besides the gameplay and fun factor are more important than anything and that where this game truly shines! The future of the game also seems bright with patches adding more content in the way of guns and the maybe even possibility of 3 way battles, instead of the traditional two way system. All in all highly recommended and its nice to be part of this game as I am sure many games will copy MAG in the future.

First off, Its not an easy game to get into... You will die a lot whichever faction (PMC: raven, Sver, Valor) you join. But you will gradually learn the ropes and how to survive to help your 8 man squad kick butt.It helps to have a MIC especially as this really is a team game and you will find that being able to communicate adds another dimension to the game. Then you will find yourself being immersed in the game at its best. Upto 256 players on the same map, your squad has objectives to meet whether defending or attacking, and each battle contributes the the overall game totals for the three PMCs.As you play along the way to veteran status in your chosen PMC you may meet up with likeminded players and join a clan.Play with the same people regularly, learn how to get additional XP and build up your skills to become a specialist in your chosen field. Maybe you are a medic, an engineer or a commando... Most squads need someone in each role to win on the battlefield. If you pick it up at a bargain price come join the online MAG gaming community.NOTE:- MAG is Online ONLY. There is NO offline mode at all.- The graphics are not as high as MW2 due to the map sizes and player numbers.- You will die a lot !! dont worry, keep at it and you will get better.JAN 2012: age 2 years=====================Its a real shame that the COD zealots could not see past their kill streaks and Nukes. This game had much to offer if only people took a little time to understand how to play. And I mean a 'little' time. But in this age of Wham Bam it was not to be. 128vs128 and 64vs64 game modes has not been matched by any other PS3 game as far as I know. The shear number of players in a round made for a fast and dangerous environment for you player - although you had to accept a lower graphic quality as a trade off. COD and BF give us high graphics, but lower player numbers - I guess its down to what you prefer. In reality this game is now EOL. It is still played by a small proportion of the original player base, but its hard to get into all the game modes. Basically apart from normal game lifespan as the SVER PMC grew in power (initial OP and then players stayed with or defected too what was the strongest PMC) the game gradually died, and now the best chance of a game is perversely to be in SVER and wait for a game with another PMC.MAG sold over 1million copies and there is hope that Zipper or Other will consider a MAG2.

MAG is a very challenging game for us oldies. As you can imagine a 128 a side game makes the life expectancy of a rookie very short just as in real life. I think that's the attraction for me. It's much more realistic than any other shoot 'em up games. COD has become almost a fantasy game made easy for the user. This is hard. It takes a lot to level up and the weapons start off very weak. Upgrades are hard to earn. Snipers are everywhere and, just as in real life, there is no kill cam and friendly fire is off. At the start you join one of three armies and play all your games for them. More realism. Once you get into the big game with 255 other players it's just mayhem. Your team of 8,along with 3 other teams, is given an objective to attack or defend within the big war. It is, effectively, a 32 a side game of Demolition. Once you have achieved your objective the game isn't over because you are given another one as you would be in real life. Experienced players in the game get to make those decisions but I haven't got up to that level yet and I'm not sure how it works. It's Great Fun!!This is a new concept in gaming, online only, and definitely the way forward. 256 players crammed on to one map is certainly different for me. The game is modelled along the lines of that PC gamers favourite - Battlefield. Bringing hardcore gaming to the PS3 is a stroke of genius. This is a much more mature and sophisticated game than COD. It takes longer to get into. The down side is that the servers can be difficult to connect to and stay connected. It looks like they may be having some issues there. As I write this the whole game is unavailable. The respawning is slow and then you have a 20 second run back to the action. When you are being sniped as soon as you get back in the game it does get frustrating going back and starting again. There are a limited number of maps and you do find yourself doing the same operation over and over which can be dull when defending against teams that aren't very good. It can take time to load all 256 players into the game. But once you're in the game it can last 30 minutes so your evening soon disappears.I recommend this for anyone looking for a more interesting and challenging game than COD but you do need time on your hands to get into it. Be prepared to be frustrated before enlightenment.

Title says it all really, you either love it or hate it. I thought it was a great game and certainly tried to push the FPS genre on consoles further in terms of scale and player count. MAG basically has you make up part of a massive bunch of soldiers which are divided into squads and platoons and then basically fight against the enemy for objectives.Graphics wise it is nothing stunning but you would not expect this to be the case with so many people in each match (256 players in domination). Sounds are pretty bland as well but this doesnt really detract from the whole experience. The first time you log in you get to choose which PMC (Private Military Company) you work for (Valour; American/British (like the modern day military)Raven; Europe (slightly more high tech than today) and SVER; Russia (have a militia feel to them) Each has there own strengths and weaknesses Valour: jack of all trades master of none with regards to weapon damage and rate of fire, Raven: high rate of fire and lower damage and SVER high damage and lower rate of fire. There are 4 game type modes with each giving a varying experience which stops the player becoming bored.Domination is the only mode to feature 256 players in one game. There is also the chance to customize your character skill tree to either make him a sniper, LMG expert, medic or assault rifle expert etc. You never have enough points to unlock everything from every class so choose wisely, you can re spec you character if you made a bad choice but the more you do this the more points you need to earn to re spec your character next time so beware. The biggest flaw with this game is not Zippers fault its the players. To play this game I would suggest that you buy a mic. it makes the experience so much more enjoyable. If you dont have a team that communicates then it gets very tedious, however, MAG really shines when you get a squad and if your very lucky a platoon leader that communicates and gives orders to the rest of the team or platoon. All in all in my opinion a very good game, hopefully this is a picture of what is to come with the FPS genre. I would recommend renting this game first before you buy it as it really is love it or hate it, if you played in the beta and enjoyed it then I would recommend purchasing this game.

Massive Action Game for the PS3 is an excellent FPS game. Many people complain about it because the graphics are basic and the player movement (especially while jumping) looks awkward and stiff. However, for me I'm happy to turn a blind eye to this because the rest of the game is brilliant! For me, games are about game play and if they look good, that's a bonus but not essential. It is useful to have a mic for this game and very useful if you can follow orders. The game has 3 main game types:1) Sabotage, a 32 v 32 game that requires the simultaneous capture of targets A and B to unlock target C, which must be destroyed.2) Acquisition, a 64 v 64 game that requires the attacking faction to seal 2 prototype vehicles.3)Domination, a 128 v 128 game that requires the destruction of 2 'locks' to be opened (like targets A and B in Sabotage) before the Domination targets are unlocked. Once any of the 8 domination targets are open, damage can be inflicted on the defending team's assets by controlling these points. If the damage meter fills up, offence wins.Domination is a very good game type that at various stages puts you in different war type scenarios. To start with you and your squad are give a target to protect against an enemy squad (8 v 8) which could occur in a quiet corner of the map. This of course varies as commanders adjust their tactics. When the 2 'locks' are down your job changes to defending the objectives A-H, which , all things be equal, becomes a 16 v 16 fight, just for your 2 objectives (you get charged with only protecting 2). This mean that your whole army of 128 are pushed into a tight ring consisting of all the final objectives close together, so the groups easily overlap, giving the impression of full on war.If you are a solo FPS artist that loves seeing 40:0 KD ratios, then please don't play this game. This game requires listening to those in charge, taking orders and passing enemy movement information to your team. It requires taking strategic objectives with your team, which could lead to you having low KD, but wins the game for your faction. Its very enjoyable team-based game.

In a short answer yes. But let me walk you the long way round that answer.Upon first load of the game you create a character and you have to then choose a side of a 3 way battle. Once you have made your choice you get to the menus and you can start to explore the game. I would advise looking over your character load outs before starting your MAG Career. There is a levelling system with MAG that allows a player to advance in skill and also unlocks extra attachments for your equipment as well as extra game types. You start out with only the Training available along with the 32 v 32 player Suppression game type which can become monotonous when playing solidly on your first go.However a few levels in and you unlock more game types until finally at level 8 you get access to all game types and the game starts living up to its name. The 128 v 128 player maps can get intense and this is one of the very few online games where going solo will effect the outcome of the match. My advice would be to use the voice chat and communicate with your squad. I have seen a very organised Squad breach the enemy defences faster than the defences could be mounted. It is the Squad play that really opens up this game due to the fact that each player has his place and his use and this helps pull the player into the game.As far as functionality of the game goes I would say it works well. I have never noticed any noticeable slow down in connection speed, even in the larger matches and the menu system works as well as expected. So to conclude this convoluted review. The game is good fun once you get access to the larger game types. The squad element is critical to fully enjoying the game and choosing a class you are comfortable with helps set your place in a Squad. Just remember we can't all be leaders! The only bad point I have that stands out is the fact that, as will all massive online games it takes a while for the games true self to show. Once more players reach the higher levels and more battlegrounds are unlocked, this game will come into its own.

I agree with others that say don't compare this to MW2. MW2 for all intents and purposes is an ARCADE military shooter. It's played on small maps, with a small amount of players bunny hopping all over the show, health regeneration (why?) and absolutely no depth whatsoever. Why are you fighting each other? Is there a reason other than to level up or improve a K/D ratio? It's not in any way representative of any kind of conflict or war. Even though I've enjoyed playing it, it's simply not the same type of game as MAG/BF/OF on the consoles. But alas I'm not reviewing MW2...MAG is very much a war game. The scale, immersion, the players, they all help to make it feel like you truly are at war with one of the rival factions. The squad and platoon co-ordination, when done right, makes you feel like you're part of a team that's actually making a difference.I've had no problems with campers AT ALL in this game. And spawn times are at a maximum of 16-18 seconds (that's if you missed the spawn window), NOT 30 seconds as someone else stated. The graphics are also exceptional for the sheer volume of stuff going on. Anyone that compares them to PS2 graphics are clearly blind as hell and completely ignorant when it comes to the processing required for a game of this scope. And the controls work perfectly. Why should you just press a button to throw a grenade? Surely you would HAVE to get a grenade out in real life, prime it and then throw it? That's why it's done this way in this game. The aiming and movement are spot on too.The only things I would like changed are:Changes to the health system. I want to die or be capacitated in 1 or 2 shots.More vehicles. Some balancing issues to iron out. That's it. There's literally nothing else I would change.People that compare this game to anything other than Planetside/Battlefield/ArmA2/OF are quite simply ill informed.I'm throughly enjoying it and I totally recommend this game to anyone (except rabid MW2 fanboys that will shoot down any FPS that isn't related to their beloved CoD series).

I'm a real fan of online first person shooter (FPS) games, but I'd overlooked MAG when it first came out. That changed when I got a Playstation Move and was looking for a credible FPS game with Move support. Fortunately MAG fitted the bill and hasn't disappointed (MAG had added Move support from October 2010).The first thing to address with MAG is the graphics and sound; neither are as good as recent Call of Duty titles, Medal of Honour or Battlefield Bad Company 2. This is why MAG doesn't get 5 stars, but on every other level it fully deserves the 4 stars I have given it (5 stars for fun). The maps are large and interesting, which is just as well when the games vary from 64 to 256 players.Whilst these large numbers may seem daunting to start with, you quickly get used to focusing on working with the 7 other people in your squad. This is where MAG differs to any other online FPS I've played; you really do need to talk to the other people in your Squad and work as a Team (you will need a headset with microphone attached to your PS3). As you progress through the game you can apply to be a Squad Leader, Platoon Leader (4 Squads in a Platoon) or Company Commander (4 Platoons in a Company). I suspect this level of social interaction is either a huge plus point or a complete turn off (depends whether you like talking to people or not). If you're a team player or budding leader, then this is definitely the game for you. Finally, I think I should say something about the Playstation Move experience in MAG. It takes a while for the controls to become second nature, but when they do it's really rewarding to be able to simultaneously move, look about and shoot instinctively. The jury is out on whether there's any advantage to using the Move over the normal DS3 controller, but switching aim points quickly is certainly easier and (most importantly) I'm having 100% more fun with this type of control.

Before i start may i just point out this is a different type of FPS than COD, where as COD is just a straight forward shooter this is a tactical objective based shooter and reminds me more of counter-strike.Game play is good and graphics are of a decent quality though nothing to write home aboutspawning issues arent as bad as anyone says, 25 at the start and then between 1 and 18 seconds (normally about 10) to spawn in after being killednot as many weapons as i would have liked to see but i'm sure this area can be fixed with a bit of downloadable content, weapons do start a bit basic but after upgrading and a bit of practice work well and provide decent kills.based on reading other review itake it most of the bad review were wrote soon after the release and when i bought it i had to download an update which i can only assume has fixed most of these issues as i have never encountered ANY of them, as well as this i couldnt get on the other night as the server was down for maintainance and when i got back online noticed they'd made a few tweeks to the gameplay.Communication can bean issue as not everyone has a microphone, and though this is not neccessary, some commanders are dire and fail to instruct there squad on what to do so it ends up as a free for all and fails, but this is happening less and less to me and everytime it works is produces excelent gameplay of a standard seldom seen.there is a nice selection of gametypes which offer different experiences and three varied factions to suit different types of gamers. overall a good game and worth playing and though there is room for improvement dont let that put u off as the original issues are being fixed and is probibly the best game i've played in a while

DONT COMPARE THIS TO CALL OF DUTYTHe first thing i thought when i p[layed this game was how much they've ripped of call of duty but then, when I really started getting into it i realised this was wrong. For a start because they are having so many players in one map on the networking side they had to completely re-write the book of online gaming. On a networking, and a rendering level this game is completeing different to COD. As far as the experience system goes and leveling up, yes it's very similar but then surely that means that they are praising Infinity Ward. Imitation being the most sincere form of flattery. You get 5 points per kill or 3 points for an assist, but where it differs from call of duty with this game you dont just unlock a weapon or piece of equipment when you get to a new level. Each time you level up you get awarded a 'Skill Point' 1 for each time you level up. These are your currency for weapons and equipment. You buy new weapons with the skill points. There are different categories regarding the weapons and equip,Assault rifle, sniper, LMG, sidearms, first aid, electronic warfare stuff. and each category has 4 stages, and you have to spend at least 2 points in the first stage to unlock the next stage and 2 points in stage 2 to get to 3.OVERALLEnough of my rambling though, I would seriously reccomend getting this game,Performance = 8/10 (Can be laggy depending on internet speed but otherwise good)Graphics = 10/10 (Considering the rendering needs)Gameplay/Immersion = 8/10 (Can get samey as all games do)9/10IF YOU DON'T HAVE, IIT - BUY IT!!!Peace Out!-TRIG-

I had the beta access and played this and was unsure about the game but i took the plunge and purchased this game. i am a massive COD fan and would say this games is not quiet on par with it but its not entirely the same sort of F.P.S but i never compared it too COD and think its really for this game to catch a break it doesnt want to be COD. its an alternartive and thats why its great. When i first recieved my copy i played and again thought it was average my main problem is that users are not using this game as it is designed every squad leader i have came across apart from 1 has been terrible no communication or even an idea of what to do which is where the games first fault is.I then decided to take a look at joining a few friends and playing together i joined a friend and he was awesome and thats where the fun began with witty fun banter and direction this game will be great. yes there are a few bugs but hey how many are there in cod and other games but we should stop looking at these and try and focus on the good stuff 256 players big maps average graphics great mechanics to build on.When i got to 256 players it was crazy and i loved it theres lot to think about and do bullets and grenades flying everywhere its the best thing i have ever witnessed.only problems i have came across are only being able to join one group so have friends on different groups and its hard to choose where my allegence lies lol. S.V.E.R weapons seemed overpowered but when ur S.V.E.R why complain ?? lol

Love this game. I've had it less than a week and love it. Even though I knew I would buy it I came here and read reviews before I did. Probably the most realistic review I remember said something along the lines of 'be prepared to be disappointed before being impressed'! I've certainly not been disappointed and I'm sure you won't be if you are looking for a more realistic battlefield experience. It can take a while to level up but its enjoyable rather than difficult. Yes it can be said that the graphics do not match that of MW2 but hey, if you were to buy a game as good and huge as this with the graphics of MW2 you would be waiting a very long time and probably be paying £100 for the game. That said the graphics are by no means to be sniffed at, in fact I find them perfectly good enough and I think most will agree. The pure size and realism of this game is what in my eyes puts it way in front of MW2 and similiar games. From unlocking items and levelling up to being in the midst of battle it is just so much more realistic. It makes you think, follow orders, carry out objectives and work as a team just as you would in real life instead of just running around a small map popping people off. Don't listen to all the negative 'not as good as' reviews you might read, instead, come and join the action at what I am sure will be a very successful game. Buy it !!

Since this was announced last year I wanted the game and counted the days to release. As a Battlefield (PC version) fan I loved the thought of pitting my wits against many others as opposed to being slaughtered on CODMW2 within 15 seconds of spawning by someone who was 40 levels above me and had various attributes I could only dream of having (sprint/melee).The negatives were those who posted on here at the early stages of Beta, slating the graphics, gameplay and sound and it actually got me to the stage of deciding against it. Subsequently I had the copy of the game in my hand on no less than 10 occasions to take the till and purchase but I kept coming back to the negative reviews on here.Yesterday I took the plunge, and I am glad that I did as I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay . Yes the graphics aren't the greatest (Not as bad as some on here say), Same goes for the sound although the voice comms are clearer than CODMW2, but the game itself is excellent and a worthy addition to any FPS collection. With BFBC2 demo now on PSN for download comparatives are bound to be thrown about, but if you want to participate in an all out team war that involves more than camping in a bush and working as a team - buy the game, if you like the ultra-fantasist things on offer on CODMW2 - don't. Of course buy BFBC2 too though....
