I installed one of these in my son's tower and loaded Windows 7 64-bit (dual-boot / selectable at boot time) and retained his original 32-bit environment on his original 1TB (and half full) drive. Simply installing a new drive and booting from the install DVD allows two operating system instantiations, each on its own disk. The game system boots in 35 seconds even with checking 8gb of RAM and once up - absolutely screams on his games compared to the stock 7200rpm 3.5 inch disk. The dual disk / dual boot configuration assures that he is still able to refer to his schoolwork on the original disk and even run on that disk if he selects it during post.Should anything fail in either environment - he can still get to his schoolwork - no single point of failure. However, the performance dependent application, his game, is optimised.I was so impressed with this disk, that I bought another when it went on sale and put it into my somewhat obsolete, but still sturdy Dell D630 notebook that was in need of a new disk. This commercial notebook operates the disk in SATA compatibility mode, so I don't expect the performance of my son's game system, but still the application access time and boot time are improved and i do not fear losing my business data to a mechanical failure.I have 40 years experience as a computer design engineer and I suspect that those complaining about performance have:A. Not upgraded their BIOS,B. Not followed the Kingston instructions to set options in POST/BIOS,orC. They are expecting too much of a SATA 1 or 2 interface in their existing hardware. If you don't have a SATA 3 interface on your host machine - don't expect SATA 3 performance from this drive - but it will work and one should see improvement nevertheless..Solid State drives have a lot of advantages: lower power, higher mean time between failure, silent running, shock (drop) resistance - SO - performance is not the only improved figure of merit in a solid state storage device. One might also consider that this drive will likely outlast the system that it first installs in - and may migrate to another faster system later on. I really have never expected any mechanical disk to outlive it's host machine - as the mechanical components (fan, Keyboard, HD and DVD) have (historically) the highest failure rates of the system. However, the HD is the only component that takes your data when it fails. If you think about it, your data is the most precious part of the system.

Probably one of the best upgrades to a laptop computer is converting and installing a Solid State Drive. We run a computer shop and have upgraded literally thousands of machines over the past 10 years. Aside from RAM ( Random Access Memory) modules which is the memory your computer uses to calculate basic instructions when the machine is running, it is access to your stored data and the time it takes to get and write that data which gives the user the feeling of whether your machine is fast or slow. This disk was installed in a laptop that was previously booting in 1 minute and 10 seconds, having replaced the drive for the Kingston Drive and reloaded the Operating System, the same laptop then reached the desktop from a cold start in just 35 seconds. Once the old data from the laptop was copied back to the new drive access to the photographs and documents was certainly a lot quicker and file searches too were much faster. The upgraded machine was given a whole new lease of life and this particular drive in my opinion excellent value for money at this price point. If you considering a solid state drive then remember to check the total volume of data on the old disk including the Operating System and buy the size of Solid State Drive that will meet your needs today and allow for more data to be added in the future. There are other solid state drives that cost considerably more than this Kingston Drive which are faster, hence I scored this 4 stars, however with speeds this fast for a typical home user the Kingston will give you the boost needed to breath new life into your laptop and in my opinion offers good value for money.

Nothing is like the speed of an SSD. MY old computer was so slow I would turn it on about 2-3 days before I needed to research something or look on YouTube. It was controlling my life for If I was out with friends and I had to confirm something that they swore was a fact I would have to leave where were hanging out and go home to turn my computer on. I would then wait 2-3 days in front of it for it to boot up then look up what they said to be true. During these days I would sometimes invite them over and we would just make grilled cheese's and peanut and butter sandwiches while waiting for it to turn on. We would "take watch" as if we were guarding the computer from zombies attacking it.It really brought us together at times and I do miss it. We would build up SO much hype in search for an answer and we would all tell other stories while waiting for it. We had so many things to research that we took notes to confirm each others stories and all while waiting to confirm the first thing. After about a month of going threw this we all lost our jobs for not showing up, got kicked out of our parents houses, and my friend Joe died in a nasty bus accident. Moral of the story is that this SSD changed my life. I now have a job again, computer is fast, and only takes seconds to research a possible hole in a friends story. Main issue is that I now have no friends, just the transfer ticket Joe was carrying that day of his accident. I still keep the old drive around and may put it back in to the machine for old time sakes. Just need to see if I have 2-3 days to spare and enough bread and cheese I can grill in the meantime.Great Buy!

I'm really impressed with the performance boost this has given my five year-old HP laptop with 2GB RAM and Windows 7 (designed for Vista). I know I should have something better anyway, but it's generally only used for web, Microsoft Money and a bit of Microsoft Office.Cold boot now takes 45 seconds instead of 90 (including BIOS bits). Opening Office 2013 applications like Word and Excel is 1-2 seconds, whereas it was previously 15-20.The best improvement though is switching between multiple users, which is an absolute joy! After clicking Windows-L, I sometimes used to have to put up with a black screen and 30 seconds of HDD activity before finally getting a log-in /password prompt and then another 30-60 seconds of logging in. I just did the following test whilst typing this review:Window-LClicked "Switch user"Clicked another user's log-in iconGot to user's desktop (albeit already logged in)Windows-L againClicked "Switch user"Clicked my log-in iconEntered my passwordGot to my desktop.- all in around 20 seconds. The HDD installation used as a comparison was rebuilt only a couple of months ago, so it wasn't chock full of useful applications slowing it down.Mightily impressed.240GB isn't enough to hold all my family photos, music library and home movies in digital format on top of the other data on top of everything else, but that's what my media server and an external USB drive is for.To breath new life into aging equipment, go for this over a RAM upgrade every time. I've no need to upgrade from my paltry 2GB now.

I ordered this a while back to have on hand for if/when my SSD fails. I have a rather specialised backup utility and make forensically exact copies regularly. So, pop in similar disk, run rescue optical drive, point it at the most recent backup, and instantly operational PC.But, I bought my father a new Dell laptop a year or so ago, he's a truck driver. It's his main entertainment when he's out on the road. He had an unfortunate accident involving a couple of ounces of carbonated beverage. Luckily for both of us I paid about as much for warranty services as I did the laptop. We sent it back and they repaired the screen and swapped a couple other sticky, yet functional parts. When we got it back I did the completely sensible thing and took it apart. Used my backup recovery disc to clone the used space on the original drive and duplicated it to this Kingston SSD.From a cold boot the laptop is completely ready to use in under 15 seconds. All services, background processes, and run at boot time apps are fully loaded. Previously it took almost 5 minutes. I didn't add any RAM or make any other change, just swapped the 500GB Seagate 5000 rpm SATA II drive for this 250GB Kingston SATA III SSD. For a mid level laptop, it runs like a rocket in a big hurry to get someplace, fast. This is one of the single most impressive improvements in a PC via a nearly brain dead simple swap for very little money. The dollar spent to improvement ratio is astonishing.

After reading recent reviews of this SSD, I have to admit , some of the reviewers claims gave me pause. I have had good experiences with Samsung 840 series, the Crucial M4, and the Crucial M500. I was doing a rebuild of a core 2 duo hp desktop with an e-8600 processor building a gaming machine for a friends son. With experience, I have learned to be leery of many of the sour grape reviews I read , and to look at the competence of the person writing the reviews, many times it is clear they do not know what they are doing , their response is to point the finger at everybody but them selves for their installation failures etc.I decided to give this SSD a try. Ordered it on Monday,Amazon delivered it on Tuesday, It took 10 minutes to clone, dropped into an icydock 3.5 in drive bay adaptor, removed original HDD, installed the Kingston 240 gb SSDNow, plugged in sata power, and data cables, WOW 37 second boot time, from power on to google ready. Windows Experience Index 7.9 on primary hard drive, All programs come up instantly, "Think-Point-Boom", that's it as fast as you can think it it's their. The Kingston SSDNow V300 is as good as any I have used, I highly recommend this SSD, as well as the 8 gb of Kingston RAM I installed. I will purchase more Kingston SSD's that is for sure, this is an excellent product at an excellent price,"Bat and Switch"____ No Way " LOL"

I bought a MBP with the slowest hard drive possible to save money (knowing I was going to upgrade later). Once I was able to purchase the SSD, I removed the optical drive in my laptop and enclosed it in an external enclosure. I then swapped the old hard drive for the new SSD and installed the old hard drive where the optical bay was. Now I have two internal hard drives. The 240GB SSD is big enough to hold the operating system, and software with space left over to temporarily accommodate any projects I might be working on until their finished and moved into the slower hard drive for storage. This setup works perfectly for me. It was a much needed upgrade.Everything boots up so quickly and I'm so used to it now that I forget how slow it used to be! I definitely couldn't go back. The old hard drive was a huge bottleneck on the system.I've had the SSD for 3 months now and so far it's performed flawlessly. I don't remember seeing the other bad reviews when I made my purchase and I don't know if my SSD is effected or not. I haven't ran any test on it's speed because I frankly don't care. It's already so much faster than what I had before and that was the main purpose of the purchase.Speaking of purchasing, this SSD is hands down the best bang for buck that I've seen. I'm very happy with the value.Get one and enjoy the benefits!

I was thinking about their customer service and how they treated me a couple months ago and felt obligated to leave a review. When uninstalling the harddrive to put in another dock the connector snapped. Needless to say I was upset because I had the hard drive for a month and just finished installing the OS, drivers, and other software. I called customer service, explained the situation, and they said no problem just mail it in and you'll get a replacement expedited. Sweet. Then I asked, "well since we're good on this can I send in pictures of its condition and try to solder the connections so I can access the data?" After the rep consulted his manager he said, "sure thing just email the pics,I'll confirm reception, and we'll be good to go."Well, maybe a more talented electronics technician would've been able to do it but I unfortunately had no success. BUT, they treated me well. This hard drive is blazingly, beautifully fast. Black and white speeds compared to a standard HDD. This is Verizon FIOS (when it works) compared to first generation DSL. You have to get a SSD for your OS and any frequently used/accessed software/data. Put your games, movies, important data, etc in RAID configured HDD setup or something, but get one of these. One star off because of the flimsy connections. They really should be more durable.

EXCELLENT upgrade! I have installed this model in many PCs and laptops (I am a computer tech) and the performance increase is astounding!I just installed in a NEW laptop (maybe 3 months old) that the hard drive was running at 100% for up to 5 minutes at startup. I suggested to the user to upgrade to SSD, and they weren't really sure since the laptop was so new. I told them if they didn't see a substantial improvement, I would put it back the way it was at no cost to them. After the upgrade the laptop was at the Windows 8 desktop within 15 seconds of pushing the power button, and hard drive activity was down to 0% at 45 seconds. The user was delighted! So if you are wondering if you should upgrade to SSD,then the answer is probably YES! That is IF you aren't one of those people that have a tremendous amount of data.I have converted 3 of my desktop PCs and two of my laptops to SSD. For those desktops that have a lot of data, I have a 240 GB SSD for the operating system and programs, and a 2 TB desktop hard drive for the data. The desktops boot up and operate much faster with the SSD even when you have a data drive attached. But be warned, AFTER you use a PC or laptop with a SSD for a while, ANY PC or laptop with a "traditional" hard drive will seem SO SLOW!

My motivation for getting an SSD was to replace an old 5400RPM hard drive before it crapped out (still working fine, but it's around 6 years old) with something quieter and a little faster. A few notes about my computer use and what was important to me when selecting this drive:-I am using Windows 10 on a desktop PC-I mainly use my computer for basic tasks (web browsing, Office applications, photo editing) and don't need a ton of space-Customer reviews and price point were the biggest factors in my decision to purchase this drive-"Performance" was not an issue for me; I knew it was going to be faster than my old drive, and that was good enough for me...a more detailed breakdown of performance and comparisons with traditional hard drives was not neededThis was easy to install and I have no complaints a month into use. I don't have very many programs or applications that run when my computer starts up, but as a comparison - my old 5400RPM drive took approx. 78 seconds from powering on to loading the Google homepage on Chrome, vs. approx. 50 seconds with this new drive. I used this mounting kit to install the drive:http://www.amazon.com/SABRENT-Inches-Internal-Mounting-BK-HDDH/dp/B00G57BN1MI highly recommend this hard drive.

laptop disk drives are notoriously loud and slow. i was avoiding the laptop as the bootup time alone make me take 3 coffee breaks before i could read my emails. now it's boots and logs in lightning fast. it's not only the read speed, its that there is no "disk seek" time. I've gone from driving a tugboat to driving a jaguar !it was a bit tricky to get a bootable segment and a clean copy. after 3 attempts, here's what worked for me:1- do not use the CD-ROM except to make the "bootable CD-ROM with copy software", as you cannot shut down all the background processes in windows to get a clean disk copy2- boot from this new CD-ROM,go through the copy/create process3- re-boot normally onto your old disk (leave this SSD on the USB drive)4- reformat the disk with a bootable partition (this will copy the boot software onto the boot partition)5- re-do step 2 above, throw salt over your shoulder if you are superstitious6- replace your hard drive with this SSD and boot up and drive your new Maserati-class laptop, dstart saving for another SSD for your desktopmy desktop has raid-0 dual disks, and i'm still considering the performance boost i'll get from "no seek time" access with SSD!

As a slave drive its great no complaints, however I have had 2 of these now and a friend has 1, there seems to be an intermittent issue if using as boot drives, they do not seem to initialize properly when having to restart the computer, sometimes upon a restart/reset the drive does not seem to get recognised properly and you get errors trying to get back into windows or it point blank does not boot. You have to actually switch off the power to the computer for up to 6-8mins before the drive would get recognised properly, Its not the motherboard as had 2 different kingston drives in 2 different machines and they both did it (as well as the 1 in my friends machine). Its not common and if you shut down and power off your machine fully each time it does not seem to do it,its only when actually restarting/resetting (normally from an update). It did not do it often but it was enough to annoy me to swap brands to a samsung as a boot drive, now I never get the issue, however as a slave drive they are a great low cost ssd for installing and playing games from.I am planning on buying another as need more space for games.(some of these modern games are huge)

It is 2016. You want your computer to work fast and efficiently, and it turns out that very often the bottle-neck is the hard drive. This solid state drive will function approximately 10 times faster than your old slow rpm hard drive. You won't have the volume of memory that the typical spinning disks give you, but you will have something that is better protected against shock, lighter, less draining of the battery, and faster. The speed is very noticeable, and I have just made my daughter extremely happy by transforming her 3 year old laptop with this. Swapping hard drives is rather involved, but I would advocate patience, a look at YouTube to check you're happy to try,and an acceptance that a fresh install may be best - oh, and you might want to configure cloud computing to store the billion photos and music files you don't need on this drive, leaving it for the operating system, the basic office suite and the most recent files you really have to have. I am certain that this is one of the best updates you can perform to extend the life of an ailing computer.Read full review...

If you have not upgraded your computer or laptop to an SSD, you have missed the very best upgrade you can ever do.... far better than even buying a new computer. This thing will give you better performance than any hard drive based system you can buy at any cost. It is simply amazing. Boot times are a few seconds instead of minutes. Programs load in a flash. You will be astonished how much faster your computer is with an SSD. And with prices falling to ridiculously low levels, there is not reason not to do this. Some technical experience is needed to clone the drive but it is a relatively easy process that even a novice could do if they follow the instructions.Just make sure you get drive that is big enough to accommodate all the data on your drive (all partitions!). Also be sure to run chkdsk on that drive before you clone it. Errors on the drive can stop the cloning process cold and won't tell you why. Also, probably best to only attempt upgrades on Windows 7 or newer computers, which have the hardware and software to take advantage of SSDs.
