The pictures in my review include pictures from my first Joseph & Joseph Board, which after 4 years of use it is now time to retire. My thoughts are based on the assumption the new black board will perform in a similiar manner to the first one, which was beige.- The board has over the course of its lifetime been washed, predominately by Dishwasher, most likely 4-500 times, 3 or 4 times a week over 4 years. I would say it has fared very well under the circumstances.- The design of the board is just brilliant, on one side you have the spikes for gripping meats, but also good for larger fruit and veg, if you have something frozen to chop, the spikes really help with that too.The standard non spike side is fine for everything else, both sides are angled in such a way that they provide a barrier to catch any excess juices and debris from running on to the floor or the work top including crumbs from bread, i seem to still get blamed for crumbs on floor though..- Because the underside does not touch the worksurface whilst using the top surface you can simply flip it over if trying to avoid cross contamination ie meat one side and non meat on another.Although ideally you would prep any non meat first, then meat second to that just for good housekeeping.- Its lightweight for its size, compare this to a wooden or glass board of similiar size and the J&J board wins hands down. Because it has a reasonably high platform stance it is also easy to pick up from the worktop, something again that can be a struggle with glass boards in particular when you have meat juices or fruit juices making everything slippery.- Aesthetically it is of course a design based product meant to be pleasing on the eye so it ticks those boxes, it does look i think much nicer than your typical glass or wood board especially if you have a wooden worktop.- From a useage perspective the fact that it is made from plastic means firstly it is easier going on knives than again wood, glass or metal contact meaning they stay sharper for longer. Youll see in the pictures that yes it does mark up, but show me a chopping/cutting board that does not obtain markings from chopping and cutting, even glass.- I disagree with other reviews reference the hygiene aspect of markings, if something is washed correctly, stored correctly, it does not present a hygiene risk. Staining of plastic by food stuffs such as dark meats, peppers, tomatoes etc is to be entirely expected and occurs on any plastic, as well as a lot of wooden boards.- We decided to get a black board this time around and will see if this is any different regards food stains. But as per the pictures if after four years of use you still have a board as intact and functional as this then i think you can say it is amazing value, the cutting marks and staining is not in my eyes a major or even middling issue, its exactly what the board is designed to do, protect your worksurface and give you a safe and functional chopping area.- Some of the edges have frayed somewhat, but after hundreds of dishwasher cycles im only surpised they are still there at all, its a really solid, long lasting and well designed product with some great features that happens to look stylish too in our kitchen.

After having a new worktop, I wanted to buy something to use as a worktop saver/chopping board so I didn’t damage my brand new worktop.Ok so I must admit I was a little disappointed that the first time I used this it was marked by the knife, as I expected it to be a little more hard wearing, but it is plastic and is it being subjected to a sharp blade being repeatedly sliced into it, so it is going to get marked - that’s the point of using this and not the worktop. But, that aside, this board is great. It catches crumbs and juices and makes cleaning up so much quicker and easier. Several people made comments about needing to learn to cut on a slope or dealing with the raised edges but I’ve honestly not had an issue with either of these.I’ve no idea what they were cutting but I’ve used mine constantly for the 3 months I’ve had it and used it for everything - bread, meats, veg etc and found it fine for each thing. I peel and chop my veg on it so when I’m done I can take it over to the bin and scrape the bits in without dropping half of it on the floor or blocking the sink like i used to when using the washing up bowl. It’s easy to clean as well with a sponge, but I use a brush on the spikes as the sponge gets snagged and rips - the brush works well and cleans it just fine. This board is really easy to clean and rinses off before standing on the drainer on its side to dry. Since the edges are nice and wide, it will stand up on its own without issue. I also find it easy enough to store in the cupboard as it slots in well and is easy to grip to get out.So far I’m impressed with this and would recommend as it’s a great worktop saver and makes cleaning up a breeze.Being double sided makes life easier as I have a choice which side suits my needs and I can use both in one meal prep as it sits up off the worktop meaning the mess is minimal.Despite being the most expensive chopping board I’ve ever owned, I’d say it was one of my best purchases for kitchen items.

Bought this after also having the joseph joseph colour coded chopping boards as an easier way to carve up joints. Its a good chopping board, with the choice of the spikes to hold your food in place whilst you carve, or a flat side for chopping. You can also save yourself a bit of washing up by flipping the board over if you need to chop some additional things, and avoid surface contamination, and because the board isn't flat against the work top it doesn't make a mess. The board will mark as its plastic, but at the same time this is better for your knives as they are less likely to lose their sharpness against using a hard surface such as glass or marble.Having the board slanted makes sure the juices don't run everywhere, and if you want to use them for gravy you can much more easily pour into the pan.The grip on the board also keeps it firmly in place whilst your chopping or carving.

After getting fed up of chopping boards that slid and spun around, or that dripped juices all over the place, this is a very well designed solution. It has two sides - a plain side on one, and the other side has little spikes to hold a joint of meat for carving. Both sides are sloped slightly towards the back, meaning that any juices from what you're chopping or carving will be neatly collected without spilling over. This slope also serves to contain the food you're chopping, so it's less likely that it will fall off. It's large enough that the 'walls' of the slop don't get in the way of your knife, even when using a large one. And this is its only downside - the board is likely to be too large and too thick to fit within your dishwasher. Not a real problem though, as it's very easy to clean with a few swipes of a brush.

The very first time you use a knife on it you understand how it is... It is very soft plastic and scores easily. However I wasn't too bothered by this.My biggest issue is that right in the center of the cutting surface is a huge surface defect where the plastic was ejected from the mold. It is ugly and cheap looking and shouldn't happen on a product as expensive as this.I do quite like how it works. The ramped surfaces are great. The spikes are very useful and on one side only, so the other side has clear surface. One great advantage I realised after purchase is that it is great for acting as a dish for assembling foods to bring to the oven...You can pick it up and hold it much easier than most cutting boards and the lip helps retain the food.

This is a good piece of kit. It is well designed and very space efficient, giving on one side a chopping board, and on the other a spiked carving area both of which keep all the mess in one place. I am generally very happy with performance and the contemporary look of the item. My only criticism is that the surface on the chopping/slicing side could be a bit more robust as it does show knife marks quite quickly and I would happily have paid a little more for the item to ensure a stronger surface.Joseph Joseph take note: people want high quality for your level of price. I do not realistically think this is "large" - it certainly wouldn't be big enough to carve the Xmas turkey - this is mediumat best.

These boards are fantastic and Home Field and Stream provided an impeccable delivery service - thanks guys. I have had one of these boards myself for a couple of years, I love it, so I bought one for my bro-in-law for his birthday. He is very pleased and so am I as I didn't have to package it and post it myself! The size is perfect, that and the slope mean you can push bits of peelings etc to the back of the board on the smooth side. The other side for carving features that bumpy thing that holds the joint in place. The juices run down the slope and are caught at the bottom of the board for gravy - clean and efficient.

Nice chopping board with non slip edges and a sloping top to catch meat juices etc. Spikes on one side to stop joints from sliding around is a good feature.Yes, it does get marked by knives but I guess there’s not much that can be done about this as the board is softer than the blade – it has to be obviously, otherwise you’d blunt your knife. The only downside for me is that it’s easy to slice through the rubber edge when you’re using it – and this will make it look really scrappy and the edge starts to peel away. Get your knife skills up to speed and you’ll be OK.Slightly expensive for what it is.

Having owned one of these myself, I purchased this one as a gift for a 'cheffy' male friend. It's a better design than my old one, as it now has additional non-slip edging. Does exactly what it says it does ie allows meat juices to drain away from you while carving and has great pourable corners to add the juices to your gravy. Good spikey, grippy side for meats and a smooth side for everything else. My only criticism is that it does score easily form your sharp knives, which is unattractive after a couple of uses, but it wouldn't stop me buying another as it does a great job and is dishwasher safe!

This is the second board we have purchased. The first is now well worn after the daily use over the years.Cannot fault this board. Its well thought out, made of good materials and is the perfect size. The carving side holds meat securely for cutting and lets juices run away due to it's slightly slopped surface. The main flat side is great for making sandwiches and preparing food on. We even use it as a serving tray. There is a non-slip edge on either side which is great.Overall a well thought out and made product. Very good value for money knowing it will last for years even with daily use.

LOVE IT! been struggling with a too small tray for carving meat. Juices going everywhere. This ingenious design collects all the juice and its easy to pour back into the gravy. The spikes are VERY sharp though, so be careful. It is a large tray, but it does fit in our dishwasher.I didn't realise when I purchased it, that the board was double sided and the reverse is a normal cutting board for bread etc. Great. Very pleased. And as with all Joseph Joseph products, extremely well thought out and designed. They are pricey, but worth it.

This is a sensibly sized chopping board that stays reassuringly stable on even a shiny surface (I use it on polished granite). I very much like the juice retaining feature. I can chop a dozen tomatoes without any of the liquid spilling over and then it can easily be drained into the pan. The board is also very easy to wipe clean. It's true, as others have noted, that the surface very quickly shows knife marks. But then, so does a wooden board. And I'd prefer that to a board that blunts my knives, which is the likely alternative.

I purchased this chopping board after visiting home because it's so practical! It's big and sturdy, no slipping around because of the rubber rim. The angle of the board is perfect as after cutting meat it catches the juices which you can then pour in your gravy/plate. It's a decent size as well. Easy to clean with sponge and soap or you can put it in the dishwasher, if you have a big dishwasher. I can already tell that this product is going to last me years. Worth the money

It has two sides, one with spikes that keeps things in place whilst you cut, carve or chop, not just meat but great for onions too. the other side is flat but with an edge so that cutting bread is a pleasure as the crumbs stay in the tray not all over your work tops. We ordered two by mistake and gave one to a friend who is equally delighted with it. Best of all it is dishwasher proof and come up lovely with no bits left on as some do when hand washed.

We had granite worktops put in kitchen and utility. All the boards we had looked scruffy and worn after having the kitchen redone so we opted for black surface (silicone type) work boards. This is a pricey bit of kit, but it so does the job well. You can chop one side and carve meat, cut bread, etc on the other side. It doesn't move like other boards because of the rubber going all the way around the base, and it doesn't mark the granite. Sorted!
