I've been wearing these Icebreaker Sphere tops in all weather and temperatures from about 4°C up to 26°C and found them comfortable although I had to peel them off during hotter weather when anything other than a loose light shirt was too much. In cooler weather they seem to provide warmth which I assume is the merino providing insulation while in warmer weather they feel cool and in hot weather they wick very rapidly. When out walking and cycling I felt myself starting to sweat but whereas cotton becomes cold and clammy and polyester feels sticky, these Sphere tops wicked rapidly, dried quickly and still felt fresh. They're especially good for travel and while away with no laundry facilities,I hung them up overnight each still felt fresh and remained odour free for the full week.I'm a UK size 10-12, 1.75 metres, a slim build with 86cm chest and normally wear a size medium in the Icebreaker Oasis and Everyday merino ranges. However, the sizing of Sphere garments seems to run large and I found the medium-size swamped me in the Sphere range, so opted for small but still found this a very loose and draughty fit so settled eventually on extra-small.For information the small measures 44cm across the chest (underarm to underarm), 49cm underarm to wrist and 68cm back length whereas the extra-small is 41cm across the chest (underarm to underarm), 49cm underarm to wrist and 68cm down the back. The main difference is in body measurement and around the waist with the small being 40cm across and feeling loose and baggy on me while the extra small is 37cm and provides a closer, less draughty fit. They wash well by hand (my preference) or a gentle machine-wash at 40°C and there's no shrinkage. I let them dry naturally and they dry in a few hours if hung in a breeze. These Sphere tops are high quality, natural clothing which can be worn almost year-round in cold, cool or warm weather and remain fresh and comfortable, feeling soft and almost silky against the skin with absolutely no prickliness or irritation from the merino wool. They're not cheap to buy but will last for years providing good performance throughout, particularly for active-wear. In the future, both the merino wool and Tencel (made from wood fibres) will biodegrade naturally making them environmentally-friendly too.
