I had the first version for more than 10 years, which I'm still using to this day for work. I find the fit of this one even better at XL (same size as the old one), which at 6'4" fits me perfectly! One issue to note are the cuffs. On the old version I was rolling up the sleeves, which made said cuffs stretch and look rather unaesthetic because the rubber fibers would just snap/ stretch, preventing them from returning to their original size. On this newer version they seem more stretchy and have a different feel, so it's possible the issue has been fixed but i'd still avoid pulling the sleeves up. Buy a T-shirt version if you need a short sleeve: simple. All in all, a superb baselayer!Dries in an instant so you can wear it right away after washing it in a stream. It's not thermal wear, It keeps the wearer both warm and cool at the same time, which is really comfortable. You will feel every gust of wind while wearing it so it will evaporate the "backpack sweat" in an instant! Highly recommended!PS. I'm not sure what other people mean when saying it's too short. The back reaches to about half my behind and the front a bit past my waistline, fully covering the belt, yet leaving a bit of room to access the pockets comfortably. And I have a relatively long back! It really fits well, just like it is shown photo's!(the previous one is in fact a bit shorter, despite being the same size.)

I perspire a lot, particularly with exercise. Long ago I learned about the virtues of polypropylene. Any cold weather activity with cotton underwear is a sentence to being cold. I have tried many brands of polypropylene first layers. They frayed, they pilled, they tore and developed holes. Then I discovered Helly Hansen. Top price, but I had been disappointed by all others. WOW. Worth every penny. Years of use of their first layer with no cotton and I am warm and dry when snow shoeing, XC skiing, snow blowing and hunting. Use a second layer of standard polyester pile, and you can do single digit temps, with vigorous exercise and still be warm and dry. This is one item that going cheep doesn't work. When you are outside, wet and cold, price doesn't matter. Go for the top on this one. HH makes them well, and they last, and they work. It’s light and comfy and does the job for keeping you fresh and dry. At over 6ft6 the arms are long enough which is always a pleasant surprise and length also good. It’s definitely a sub layer. Temperature differences between my arms covered by just this and my body under a light weight cycling top was noticeable in a strong cold wind.My only issue (which is more today with my size and shape) is that while the arms are just about the right length, the body area is looser than I would like for a base layer. XL should be my size but dropping to L may sort the tightness need but would likely see me with the arms too short. If you are normal sized though,I think this would be fine if you err on the lower size option if you want it tight. All in all though I’m happy with it but will use in cool weather rather than cold.

This is a solid shirt for the price. I like it. Helly has been making base layers for a long time and their products are good, however I think the fit is slightly large on this piece. I am 5'9", 175 lbs and ordered the large and if was a bit baggy for me for a base layer. I don't like the super tight fit of the Nike or UA compression clothing, but I don't like things droopy. This was more towards the droopy side. I would say the Craft Active Extreme is a better base layer and fits better, but costs almost twice as much. The material is softer on the Craft, but I think the wicking on the Helly is just as good - just a different fabric and feel (not as soft). Overall, good product. If money is no issue, perhaps look elsewhere but if you need a good base layer on a budget, this is a piece you will appreciate.

For such a thin shirt it helps to keep me warm better than I thought it would, even when soaked with sweat. The fabric breathes well and drys quickly in a breeze. It is a little bit stretchy and hugs my shape well and I find the white stripes down the arms fashionable. I bought two of them for kayaking but wear them when I am out exploring dry ground as well. I got them on sale but believe they are worth the regular full price.I would buy them again and recommend them for any activity where its important to stay warm when wet. One big plus is after it drys from sweating It doesn't smell like body odor like a cotton shirt does. Great for overnight kayaking trips.

This men's base layer, from Helly Hansen, is designed to be like a second skin, wicking moisture away from the body and helping to keep you dry and comfortable- and it lives up to the hype! The top is of typical Helly Hansen quality. BUT- as I have found for all HH gear, it runs small (my husband is normally a Large and the X-Large is a good snug fit). It's super lightweight and breathable. Warm when standing still but breathable during activity. The top is a nice slim cut and looks good too. He is currently wearing it in the snow in Niseko Japan and it's keeping him very warm under a standard fleece. Machine washable and quick drying, so it's versatile as well.

As a big feller (ex-second row rugby player) it's often hard to find base layers that work for me. This is a 3XL but the sleeve length was bang on. It's a snug fit in girth but that's to be expected. Frankly I don't mind that. Would like to have seen it a little longer in length from neck to waist though it meets. To be fair, I'd prefer this to have more overlap with the trousers to prevent exposure on bending or working in the cold. The material however is as you would expect from Helly Hansen: Top notch & absolutely fit for purpose. 10 out of 10I just wish the sizes could be a bit more wide ranging.

Works as expected.Bought this for a 2000 mile summer motorcycle trip to the Black Forest in Germany from South Wales. It was comfortable, and provided excellent perspiration management. Some people say bad things about the Helly's, with nicknames like SmellyHelly and so forth.I didn't experience any of those issues, but you do need to wash any base layer regularly if you're sweating into it.As they are so light and naturally wicking, it dries very very quickly. So a quick sink wash on the road, and it's ready for the next day over night.

My 30 year old HH polypro top finally needed to be replaced. I must admit I didn't even know that the company still existed, as at least where I live in California, the product is not readily available in sporting goods stores such as REI anymore. So I was quite happy to be able to purchase a replacement top online, which other than being just a tad small, is strikingly similar to my 30 year old original top. I'm assuming it will stretch out a bit on repeating wearings, though, and eventually fit perfectly, as my old tops always did.

I bought this on a recommendation from an ultralite hiking enthusiast for a 10 day hike through the Pyrenees, and I can wholeheartedly endorse the aforementioned recommendation.Light and breezy in the heat of the day, yet astonishingly warm during the cold of the night. The fit is brilliant and the garment weighs almost nothing. The wicking is sublime and it was my favourite article reluctantly replaced by a Karrimor brillo pad t-shirt after a few days.A no brainer purchase for most hikers at the very least.

The Helly Hansen Lifa Dry Stripe T-Shirt (long sleeve) is the best sports t-shirt and compression top money can buy - PERIOD!I have bought all other makes from Second Skin to Canterbury to Nike to Adidas and Helly Hansen wins hands down.I wear mine for Trail Running, hiking and as a compression top under my cycling jersey. The tops wicker away sweat superbly, feel very light and comfortable and last for ever (and you think I am joking).I only buy Helly Hansen tops for sport and will use no other make.

I bought this primarily as a base layer for when riding a motorcycle in winter but now I'm wearing it more and more for other things, (at work & jogging). So much so that I have ordered another one but in blue this time. It's great, the best thing is it's length, my other shirts (different brand) seem a little too short and tend to ride up at the back but this is just right and stays tucked in.Buy one, you won't be disappointed, it's everything you expect from Helly Hansen.

I have used lifa kit for 30 years.I have been to the south pole twice unsupported and north pole this year, I wore a basic lifa top and bottoms as my lowest base layer for 76 days! Outstanding kit! I recommend two or even 3 of them together in extreme cold before bulking out with outer layers. The merino version is warmer but very slightly itchy so I wore the basic one underneath this.Cant fault this kit- always does the job and lasts for years!

I am pleased with this top's performance. It is light, comfy and warm for winter walking. As others have commented it is a snug fit, which I prefer. I am 5ft 10inches tall, and about 13 stones, and a Large is a good fit for me as the fabric stretches comfortably to fit. It is, however, a little shorter in the body than I had expected, but that might be a function of my long torso/short legs combination! Works well with the matching tights.

This is now my second Lifa (my old trusty blue one is still going fine although after 3 days of wearing one, they do get a tad smelly). These seem to fit me perfectly (XL - I'm 6'5" and fairly broad shouldered) but that may be down to the semi stretchy material. This really is my favourite base layer, whether trekking, skiing or just lazing around at home - I love wearing it and do not have a bad word to say about it. Highly recommended
