If you are a fan of Left 4 Dead, Monster Hunter, PUBG and Dark Souls.. then this is definitely worth investigating.Like Monster Hunter, you are dropped into a hostile and complex world of many moving parts - and have to traverse the landscape, picking up clues to reveal the (randomised) boss location. All the while - other teams will be attempting the same feat, and if you cross paths (which becomes increasingly likely as the game progresses), you will enter a PUBG style skirmish. This can happen in the confines of a compound, across a cornfield, in a dense swampy marsh.. on a heavily wooded lake shore.. in short.. across a wide variety of landscapes and terrain. There are two big maps and 4 time of day/weather variables to keep things fresh. I've had night-time battles skittering across rooftops lit by lightning.. soggy skirmishes in fog laden swamps.. and brutal wars of attrition in dungeon like catacombs. If you make it to the boss, you have another battle on your hands – trying to balance taking it down (remembering it’s move sets and weaknesses), with exposing your own position to other Hunters (it can get pretty noisy as the creature goes berserk). That done – you need to banish its remains, which exposes your position to any remaining hunters. This takes a few minutes (which feel like a lifetime), as you hunker down in defensive positions, waiting for a possible siege by other players. After this – you can then attempt to extract with the bounty, as the game gives all players the mechanics to see the others across the map. It’s the way that the game cranks through the various gears that I love the most. It’s possible to feel both hunter and hunted, several different times throughout any single match. Trying to assess and cope with the various pieces of information as they arrive, quickly plotting the best way forwards with a friend. The graphics are good. It’s a port from PC (which looks stunning running on a decent card), and does a pretty good job of mapping this over to PS4. Not perfect (there’s a little bit of popup here and there), but perfectly fit for purpose. The real star, though – is the sound. If you pay attention to it, it will give you the drop on other players (or expose your own position) in a way I have never experienced before in a FPS. Players can go for explosive turns of play – where they will get a whole lot done.. but at the expense of ringing the dinner bell to any other Hunters within earshot of gunfire, and will come to ambush, kill and loot the opposition. It’s a really finely tuned balance – and this game has it spot on.Two caveats to purchase though: First – buy this game with a friend. I can’t imagine playing this game without decent comms and a willing accomplice. You’ll just get stomped. Second – the controls take a bit of getting used to. They certainly mimic the clunky performance of ‘old timey’ weapons (like some of the more 'idiosyncratic' guns in BF1) . Are they this tricky to handle by design? Hard to say, and a point deducted - because I suspect not, and by all accounts the console version is noticeably sharper with KBM. However - You will get used to them – and they are very ‘tweak-able’ in game options. A bit of messing around in practice mode with your favoured load out should see you make decent progress. The upside of this is that you will start to feel a sense of achievement as you begin to get the hang of them and put other Hunters out of the game.Like Dark Souls.. there is a real sense of jeopardy when you have a decently levelled hunter, and have to consider the risk/reward of pushing into a possibly hostile area on the map. There is perma-death in Hunt that feels consequential (even if – truth be said.. you keep the opportunity to arm your next hunter with all the same gear, if you have the in-game currency, which the game is reasonably generous with). Also, as with the Souls games, the PvP can quickly spill into PvPvE, as the local fauna, aggro'd by the noisy Hunters, get involved - and bring their own complications. This effect sometimes goes in your favour (hilarious).. sometimes against (tragic and grossly unfair).I’m about 30hrs in and loving it. Recommended.

Set in the Bayou of the 1890s, The Hunt Showdown is a mix of many aspects of various FPS "Battle Royale" multiplayers with a large dollop of fear thrown in. It is a brutal world in which ganking is rife, and death is around every tree stump and corner. The recipe is one in which there are both pve and pvp aspects and both of these can lead, oh so easily, to an early demise. In Bounty Hunt, the main game mode, you must find 3 clues as the whereabouts of the boss you must locate, defeat and banish and then extract your squad (think The Division Dark Zone). Fair enough, the only downside being that other groups/players (12 max) are also trying to accomplish the same thing and will do everything in their power to stop you.The thick foliage and swampy setting makes ambushing a real possibility and various game mechanics make confrontation, at some point, almost impossible. Wait for groups to arrive at the boss and engage? Attack a group who are fighting a boss? Wait till they've killed it and then attack? Ambush when they exit the lair? Ambush on the way to the extraction? Wait at the extraction point and 'face off' there? Realise they are too strong and extract yourself empty handed? There are so many choices and threats that stealth and carefully planning are required to have any chance of survival. And even then things can go south, very quickly. Dying horses, crows, ducks, chickens and other animals can give away your position at any moment. A machete to the skull as you creep round a corner. A trip mine in a dark corner of a barn. From the moment you load in you are in constant danger from every angle.Starting off in this world is brutal, made slightly easier by the fact that for the first 10 levels, you cannot lose your character. After that, however, if your character dies then they are gone forever (permadeath). Experience is accumulated in your bloodline which gives permanent access to unlocks, but these have to be repurchased every time your character dies, which raises the stakes even further. It really does make you wonder if you should just cut your loses some times and extract to live another day, even if your contract was not successful.Probably the most outstanding feature of the game is the sound design (won "Best Audio" at German Developer Awards). This game MUST be played on a headset if you are to stand any chance of success. Everything you do in the game has a unique sound and that can be the difference between survival or not. You can tell distance, direction and activity type if you know what to listen for and that can give you a vital edge on your quest.Overall, the whole package is very compelling, addictive and unique as there are so many possibilities as to how a session will turn out. This is definitely one of the best FPS multiplayer experiences available on PS4 but it is not for the fainthearted. Highly recommended. If you feel that this review has helped in your decision to buy/or not buy this item, please press the Helpful button. Best wishes!

Having been a fan of Hunt: Showdown on PC for quite a while, I was excited to see it coming to PS4 as well.First and foremost; this is a horror game. No, not because of the monsters, the creepy atmosphere, or that damned spider. It's funamentally a horror game fueled by enemy players and the tension that they cause. There is a real risk-reward dynamic of this game where you could lose your character permanently at any moment - and it only takes a well placed headshot (or indiscriminate axe swing) to make that happen. It's precisely because of this risk that the game offers such an exhilarating rush when you emerge victorious. And it's because of these victories that you get so attached to your hunter. And that attachment carries over to your next match, adding to the suspense. There are few games that will get your heart racing as fast as this one. This game can be incredibly grueling for new players, but they've added in some nice features to ease you in. Firstly the training modes are great - they offer you a chance to experience the gameplay without the enemy players. Although this does detract somewhat from the suspense of the game, it's nevertheless an invaluable tool for learning the mechanics. Also - the permanent character death I was referring to? It doesn't apply until after you've reached a certain rank in your "bloodline" (your account-wide progression, not locked to a particular character). All in all, Hunt: Showdown is a beautifully-crafted game - but if it's a fast-paced shooter you're after then you'd best look elsewhere. This game demands your patience and will reward you for it.

The aim of the game is to either go it alone or team up with one or two other players to stealthily make it across a map to find a bounty (straight out of a horror film) and kill it, then quickly escape with your winnings. What makes the game great is that other players are trying to do this too, and they can kill you at any point. Not only that but there are other computer controlled enemies also ready to kill you in an instant. With fantastic sound design and very nice graphics (especially for an online game) all this combines to make for very tense games of hunting. You feel constantly aware of how much noise you're making, always listening or looking out for signs of another player, either to avoid them or kill them and steal their loot. It's a tough game, you can get killed quite quickly, but some matches can last up to an hour (very tense indeed!) and there's a pretty robust leveling system which allows you to level up not only the characters you have in your roster but also you as a player, which grants access to new and better items. The game matches you with players of your level pretty accurately which is great, so you don't feel totally outgunned, and while the loading times are a bit long, I've not had any issues with finding players. At the moment there are 2 maps and 3 different bounties but I think they plan on slowly adding more, but for now there are 2 modes (the main hunt and a quicker every-man-for-himself mode) and there is more than enough content to keep horror fans and online multiplayer shooter fans happy!

Very challenging but rewarding when you win . You are pitted against another human team ( or more - you never know how many exactly ;) ) trying to kill a monster first and try to extract safely afterwards ( sometimes there are a choice of 2 monsters on any given map ).It is permadeath on characters but all guns and other items remain available for purchase again after unlock . Graphically it looks great and the atmosphere is superb , very creepy . The Menu system can be a little confusing at first but once you understand it its all good . The servers also seem very stable and the devs are working on a single player mode and other community requests so they are definitely supporting the game ,multiple servers to choose from also mean you get into games quickly the game does seem to have a loyal fanbase . It has very quickly become my favourite pvp game of the last couple of years , So if your willing to get over the learning curve and die quite a few times its well worth the money .Read full review...

This game is online only up to 12 players per match. It's definitely more of a hardcore gamer's...game. I say this as you have to get your head around the pace, style and mechanics of it and if you've only got a few hours a week you might find it a bit frustrating at least to begin with. The style of the PvP reminds me of a mix of Rainbow 6 seige, dead by daylight, Destiny 2 gambit and dark souls when you or someone invades.I got this for for around £30 and I think this is probably around the right kind of price for it and I say that as someone who loves the game. There are only a few maps and bosses at the moment but tonnes weapons/tools to unlock and use.Although the game modes are either duo's or trio's you can just join either as a solo player.Might be an idea to get a mic but obviously you can play without.. the game has proximity chat between teams which can be funny at times. If you do get it try and not fire your gun unless you need to and the knife is essential!

So fun!You can play solo, in a duo or in a trio and you are on the hunt for paranormal monsters. You have to find clues, fend off zombies and other beasts, weave you're way in and out of swamps and old villages to find your prize. However, there are other players doing the same and when you come across each other you have a good old fashioned shoot out! This is a game that requires your attention and perseverance. But once you get good you will love it even more.Hunt or be hunted!

11.3.2020

This game is dripping in atmosphere. Turn off the lights, plug in your headphones and enjoy the ride. It can be very intense at times, not just from the monsters in the game but the fear that comes with every gun fight with other online players is like no other in any game I've played. They feel real and can last a while. If your a fan of tactical shooters and are seeking something a little different then grab a copy and take a friend with you! Happy hunting to those who buy it!

Ever wanted to hunt monsters in a Victorian/Americana horror-swamp with your friends? Ever wanted to be scared of every small sound while waiting to spring an ambush? Ever wanted to be ruthlessly hunted by human players because you have a bounty they want to loot from you after murdering your team mates? Ever wanted to experience the permadeath of your favourite characters EVERY TIME you die? This game is not for the faint of heart but there's nothing else quite like it!

Found the game a fair bit cheaper in Argos than on the PS store. Must say it was well worth the purchase. Best game I have played in years and I have been gaming for over 30 years. Graphics are crisp, weapon detailing great and environment and enemies amazing. Great audio quality compliments the graphics too. Highly recommended this game, particularly if you like stealthy shooters. The game also seems well supported and glitch free.

15.4.2020

A must have if you like survival horror plenty of monsters lurking and pit your wits against other rival gangs to beat you to the trophy. Great graphics and the background is eerie ,you really have to have eyes front, back and to either side listen to every noise that happens. 5 Stars , great price as it was reduced due to pre order reduction.

28.2.2020

Amazingly tense and fun game I’m hooked and the PvPvE element makes you think about how you go about each game as it has a tactical element to it too and that is what I live for and makes my anxiety spike, but in a good way if there is one. Highly recommend especially with 1 or 2 friends.

22.4.2020

This is a fantastic multiplayer if you want to play with a friend. It is all about using your wits and tactics. You can't just run into a fight, you have to think about it before you do anything. It is great fun taking out enemies and flanking other players as a duo.

10.3.2020

Very great game I love I'd say if you like a good shooting game this is one of the best games you can get so I'd say its a must buy for anyone that likes shooting zombies it's a must buy for you all all round I'm very happy with it
