This is a surprisingly compact black & white laser printer from HP. I gave up long ago on having an inkjet printer in the house; it just wasn't worth the cost, the few photos I printed over the course of a year. I replaced the last colour inkjet with a Samsung SL-M2026, which seems to be the number one of inexpensive laser printers.First thing you notice is that the M15w is very compact and even more so when the trays are folded away. I like how the paper print out tray pulls out and up. That’s very good design. When not in use everything folds back and you're left with a printer that can be left tucked away when not in use.Removed all the bits of orange tape used to keep everything secure fortransport and pulled another remarkably long plastic strip from the included ink cartridge.I then went to the HP website and download the drivers directly. That's always going to be more up-to-date than the included CD. File size 99Mb, so didn't take long to download.Running the setup file I was prompted again by a handy info graphic to make sure I have removed all packing and ensure the cartridge is installed properly. It guides you carefully step by step to get it up and running correctly. You are prompted to choose to add some extra software recommended by HP, in this case a "Product Information Study" giving user feedback on HP products. You don't have to choose to do this. Then the usual EULA text that nobody reads. Tick that. The setup then asks about your device, is it for home use (home based business, work or telecommuting) or business (asks number of employees) and strangely also requires a post code. You have to add these.I connected by USB initially as there’s space for the printer right next to my PC. That was quickly sorted. I may even site it next to my router as that’s a more central location in the house. Connecting with wi-fi (to lose the USB cable) was a little more tricky, but then I remembered this and my router support WPS and one button push later and I could remove the USB cable. I don’t think I’ve ever had a simpler printer install before now.In use, the printer takes little time in warming up and printing (unlike the Samsung SL-M2026) and it’s also pretty quiet, useful if you have it near where you’re working. Both text and image quality are very impressive, especially graphics. One thing it doesn’t do, and that’s an annoyance with the Samsung SL-M2026, it doesn’t spit out the printed paper crinkled. I think the Samsung overheats the paper and it always comes out crinkled, which I don’t think is good for sending out letters. This HP M15w doesn’t do this at all. After setup and testing, the big question is: is this printer worth paying nearly double the price of the Samsung? For me, judging on the print quality, speed and software, I’d say yes.EDIT: Nearly 18 months later and this printer is still going strong. Don't miss having a colour printer.

This is a review of the HP LaserJet Pro M15w Printer, and not any of the others featured on the Amazon page. It's an inexpensive printer from Hewlett Packard. It isn't a multi-function machine with scanning and photocopying capabilities, but what it is is a very good quality black and white laser printer with a remarkably small footprint. I have an older HP printer that I thought was compact but this machine takes up around half the space. As well as being small it's also fast with the capability to print up to 18 pages per minute. The printer comes with some nice features. It is wireless - although it can be connected to your computer using the supplied cable. My old printer was wireless as well but was on many occasions reluctant to connect to a computer. This machine connects every time. It will also work with phones and tablets and I had no problems printing from an iPhone X and an iPAD. Printing from both was remarkably straightforward and, again, works every time. In fact it has Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print and WiFi Direct functionality built in. I'm also impressed that such a small printer can hold 150 sheets of A4 paper in its input tray and 100 in the output tray on the top of the machine. Typically small printers seem to have an output tray that can't cope with more than a dozen pages.Downsides, well HP warn that the printer is designed to work with only its own cartridges, and there's mention of the cartridge containing a chip that presumably will not be available on third-party cartridges. As this is a black and white printer you only need one cartridge but cartridges can be expensive. As the printer is just about to launch I can't find a current UK price for the cartridge sold by HP - a HP 44A Black LaserJet Toner Cartridge (CF244A). However, a Google search shows it selling for around £40 and it should print around 1,000 pages. It's fair value for money I guess.Overall this is a very good printer for not a lot of money. The wireless features are particularly good. I'm dropping one star due to the compatibility issues with third-party cartridges but if you can live with that I'd recommend the printer.

Unboxing and assemblyThis took very little ‘assembling’ once unpacked from the box. The instructions are fairly clear and once you’ve unpacked the toner, it’s really very easy to set up. Following the instructions for setup is simple. From opening to first print was probably about 8 minutes so you can be up and running very quickly.AppearanceI like the look of the LaserJet Pro, it’s compact, neat and I think it would fit well in any home or office. I haven’t owned a LaserJet for years and remember them to be bulky, clunky and not particularly attractive. The Pro sets itself apart from the rest by being easy on the eye and is incredibly user friendly, this version was white which worked well in my office setup.Printing capabilitiesI really haven’t put this under too much pressure as it boasts to be able to print 18/19ppm. I have however reeled off all my accounts paperwork, scanned in documents and photocopied paperwork with ease and no ‘paper jams’ or error messages.AppThe app is very user friendly, it’s nice to be able to use multiple avenues to print from; ie via documents saved in google drive, emails, photos etc.The app shows the ink levels, it’s personally a little vague for my liking - it would be nice to have a percentage, even if it wasn’t fantastically accurate just as a guide, especially if you were mass printing.Best BitsI particularly like the sleep function, I hadn’t realised just how frustrated I used to get at having to go into my study to turn the printer on each time I wanted to print, sometimes forgetting to print straight away if I was distracted and realising my printer had turned itself off in the meantime. The Pro is constantly ready to spring into action at a moments notice and this is a real positive for me.Overall I’ve really enjoyed using this printer, it’s just what I would need for day to day printing and much more, far excelling my current inkjet and my previous laser jets! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to other users.

I remember when we first started to get the famous HP LaserJet printers in the office some 20+ years ago, so I received this device with some fondness for the name but high expectations. Laser printers lost their place of primacy in the office to multi-function photocopier/printer/scanner/fax machines. In the home many of us have low cost inkjet printers that can produce high quality photographs as well as very good text, so why would you really want a black and white only printer? The answer is speed and cost plus quality to a lesser extent. A laser printer will produce sharper text on standard or recycled paper and if you're a small business that can make a better impression on customers. If you're a successful small business you may be printing 1000 pages a month, in which case a laser will be much quicker in producing them and possibly work out cheaper in toner than ink. Print less often and you have the issue of inky drying out, or the printer wasting half of it in cleaning cycles.I've been using a Samsung M2026, which is a small wired laser about the same size as the M15w. The downside is that it is wired so I have to swap USB cables between my and my wife's PC and also the top paper tray is flimsy and can't hold much output. With the M15w, I can put the printer anywhere (near a power socket obviously) and we can print to it from PCs, phones or iPads flawlessly which is unusual for wireless devices. Print quality is excellent and the output tray holds up to 100 sheets so you can comfortably leave it to print multiple pages and not have to collect everything from the floor.I've dropped one star only because much depends on the cost of replacement toner. One comes supplied with the printer but at the moment it looks like they will be around £50 each for 1000 pages per cartridge. The Samsung cartridges for my old printer were around £38 each so hopefully the price will drop when the printer is officially released.

I've been using an HP P1102w laser printer for the last few years and it has given reliable and trouble-free service – but it is beginning to show it's age now, especially in terms of features and connectivity. This new HP LaserJet Pro M28w is the top model of the four currently listed on the same Amazon product page and offers a good range of features in a relatively compact design and has made a good replacement for my older model. Being a black & white laser printer it uses toner rather than liquid ink, so is best used for printing documents, rather than photos and the like, making it ideal for small businesses as well as for home use printing your emails, documents, tickets and vouchers etc. This M28w model has all the four features, wireless, print, copy and scan, whereas the other models in the range have fewer – if there is a feature you will not use then check the comparison chart for the best model for your requirements. I tend to print from mobile at least as much as computer these days and the M28w model is well-featured for this supporting Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print 2.0, it is Mopria-certified, with Wi-Fi Direct and HP Smart App enabled. This printer – and the other models on the same product page – uses an HP CF244A 44A black toner cartridge, which is currently around fifty pounds from Amazon, so you may need to factor this cost into your decision when choosing a printer; the printer itself is currently something over one hundred and ten pounds and comes with initial toner included. The HP LaserJet Pro M28w is a useful printer, that also scans, and as it is wireless and compact it can be easily tucked out of the way in a convenient spot. Straightforward to set up and to use this printer offers a good selection of features for the price and will meet many different home or office needs – recommended but beware replacement toner cartridge costs.

Very good printer. My first laserjet printer at home, and I already like it very much (the colours are only black & white though). Just in case you're not aware, this printer (M28w) is the same as the previous (and cheaper) version (M28a) in the way it functions, but the only difference is that this M28w works via Wi-Fi or via USB (cable provided) while M28a only works via USB.The only small criticism I have is that it doesn't automatically switch itself off, so you have to turn it off after use. In the setting, there is an option for automatic switch-off for 2 hours, 4 hours etc., and my setting is for 2 hours, but it remains ON all day.One thing the product description doesn't say (and it's good news)is that the printer comes with a toner cartridge HP 44A, so you don't have to buy one to begin with. But the cartridge provided feels quite light, so I'm not sure if this is a full version (with full toner) or a test version (that contains a very small amount of toner)? The scanning function also works very well - in this case, it works in colour or B&W depending on your preference. I'm still in the process of getting used to its software on scanning, but so far I'm happy about it.It also comes with a two-pin European plug and a UK plug, so this will help, depending on your location.Despite some negative reviews here, for me, it's a brilliant printer, and I'm very happy about it, because you will get 'that' perfect printing quality that you can get at work at home now. If I notice anything else in the future, I'll share it with you guys here.

If you were playing 'bigger than a bread box', the answer for this printer would be 'probably not'. This is the neatest, smallest multifunction laser printer I have ever seen from HP - and I've bought a fair few of their printers for home, home office, and business use. The printer is neat, easy to set up and use. The input drawer contains up to 150 pages, and the output up to 100 (at 80gsm). The build quality doesn't feel the strongest and there's no sheet feed or automatic duplexing - these are convenient and useful business elements but these could only add to bulk. The wireless functionality is easy to use. We have a range of MS, Apple, and Android-based devices in our household and these were all easy to connect/use.Something that wasn't so easy was finding out what the duty cycle of this printer is (the technical and recommended number of pages per month this can print). In order to achieve this, I had to download printer details from the HP website as the information wasn't available on the website hosted tech specs. This is a largely overlooked field, but in reality one of the most important. HP rate this machine for up to 8000 pages per month, but recommend that it does between 100-1000. For a home user or small business that isn't hugely print-oriented, up to 1000 pages per month (the toner capacity) is probably fine. This is also potentially a better choice than an ink jet printer for very occasional users, as unlike wet ink, toner isn't prone to drying up if not used for a while.

I have to say, I'm seriously impressed by this. I've had a black & white laserjet for some years, as they're rather more reliable and less prone to drying up than inkjets. Particularly if not used that often. I've also had a separate scanner, and another printer that claimed to be wireless capable, with print from smartphone capability. Trying to set it up drove me nuts, and I couldn't eventually get it working more than once. So it became an expensive 'white elephant' of a printer in my spare room. The same cannot be said of this little beauty. This is really neat, and fits really nicely on my bookshelf. Because it's small, it doesn't appear over-bearing. When it came to setting up,I thought I'd have a headache on my hands as I don't have a disc drive on my Apple Mac. Oh no ... I went to HP UK's website, found the right machine, and followed the straightforward instructions. It really couldn't have been easier. I was quite prepared to plug the printer into my Mac the first time, but it didn't need that at all - worked first time, both test print and scan.In addition, I downloaded the HP print app, and it had connected itself straightaway, and worked immediately. I'm enormously impressed - long may it last! Don't hesitate, go for it.

I normally would have bought this via Amazon but needed a printer urgently as my trusty Epson failed just as I needed it for a urgent print job. I therefore purchased it at a well known brick and mortar store. Bought for little more than the Amazon price but it came with a bonus - HP were doing a £20 cashback deal.Installation went without a hitch. I used the online option when offered by the CD and followed the instructions. I was up and running in 20 minutes. There was a bit of a delay whilst it found my WiFi but no problem once connected. I have had no WiFi dropouts since despite turning off the printer after use.Print quality is great and the online manual is there if needed.I highly recommend this printer for a home office or personal use.Well worth the price even without the cash back. By the way the deal ended 31 Oct.For those who need OCR software there is a free download on the HP support site. Just make sure that you restart your computer after downloading and installing otherwise the software will appear as a limited trial version.

I had jet style printers in the past but was tired of paying for costly replacement ink. So I investigated getting a laser printer, I chose mono because I do not print photographs anymore. I only have a small space footprint to allocate to house the printer and I wanted a strong brand. This printer ticks all the boxes, it came with a full toner and will last for ages, the replacements are relatively competitive on amazon. It is very small, and will print, copy and scan.It can be used wired or wireless, I use it wireless and set up was easy.It comes with a disc to install the drivers but this would not work on my Lenovo laptop, but the download was seamless. My phone and kindles connected perfectly, but I have an old RT Surface which will not download the driver. I can live with this.Print quality is very good clear and crisp and all functions work smoothly.I recommend this product, bite the bullet pay a little more for the printer and save long term on toner.

Wow! I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to about this wonderful little printer... It's just amazing.... Took about 2 minutes to set up straight out of the box. The WiFi set up couldn't be any easier... But then after reading some reviews that the print quality was a bit weak, I prepared for my first disappointing printed page to emerge. Well I don't know what other reviewers are used to, but the print quality to me is incredible! There's nothing bad I can say about this printer. It's perfect. And it's so small! Now it sits on a small shelf at the back of a cupboard, not getting in the way but ready at a moment's notice to print anything I want, quickly and easily from my Mac, my PC,my phone and my iPad... All faultless connections. It's just brilliant. If you're looking for a fantastic value monochrome laser printer then look no further... Oh by the way I didn't mention the speed! 1 A4 page prints in about 2 seconds... I'm very, very impressed!

Having already an enormous Samsung all-in-1 mono laser printer that had got in the habit of getting paper jams every single time it printed, I was really amazed of how small this HP printer is. Yet, the installation to my desktop via the USB cable and to all my laptops via WiFi was really problem-free when carefully following the instructions. What I found a little hard to understand is the wireless set up, ie getting it to connect to home WiFi, as this part of its configuration could have been a little more user-friendly.I only printed a couple of pages, but the quality of text is just fine for everyday use. Even the grayscale output is not bad either. Also, the warming-up time is virtually zero, meaning you get the first page out as soon as you have clicked "print".Finally, it is very quiet, so I don't have to wake everybody up when printing my presentation notes early in the morning. Old Samsung went in the tip, new HP is here to stay.

Print quality excellent. Build quality excellent ( and delivery, FYI, as usual exemplary amazon Prime). However, took some research to work out how to connect wirelessly. In the end, I contacted their customer service which, I readily acknowledge , was EXEMPLARY!. However, it became a very ‘APPLE-LIKE’ procedure where the HP technician supported me by guiding me to download a link that enabled him to ‘see’ my Apple Mac and guide me to install settings that would enable both my Mac as well as my iPhones, iPad and MacBook Air to connect by WiFi.This procedure was painless and effective and so now every device that will need to have access to the wonderful laser printer does have access and we aredelighted.PHEW!

It was an easy printer to set up on my mac. I downloaded the drivers direct from HP.com and the installation wizard was really clear about what to do. I wanted a black and white printer to print economically fast drafts for a book I'm writing - and i'ts far faster than my old inkjet printer. It's pretty small as well - the smallest laser printer I have seen.I did sound noisier than I expected, but I have it some way off my desk top using the WIFI connection.I believe the toner cartridges are cheaper and produce more prints than the inkjet cartridges too.No use if you want colour!

This is a great little printer. I did have a bit of a problem setting up the wi-fi, but the online HP help was very good. It installed Online Print and Scan Doctor onto my computer desktop. I'm no expert with these things anyway and if I can do it anyone can! Fast print, unlike my previous inkjet, and no more frustration when I want to print and the cartridges have dried up. If you only need black and white print, I would definitely recommend this printer. Be careful when you order as there is a 15a and 15w and I ordered the wrong one first (15a) thinking it was wi-fi but its not.
