First impressions are good. For the price, if seems like a good deal.Like most printers these days, the entry price is kept low to get you "hooked up" so the manufacturer can then "push" its ink to you. It's not a nice metaphor, but a pertinent one.Ink is a rip off. No question. And the printer manufacturers all want that premium ink money. So they dangle the carrot of cheap printers, then batter you with their giant ink cost stick. And as buying the replacement ink is cheaper than a new printer... just!... you buy it.I wish a clever manufacturer would break ranks and design and build a printer that ran on standard bottles of ink, or even fairly priced cartridges, and didn't gouge their customers.Anyway.All this leads to our printer.Which has two gouging methods.Replacement cartridges, which would seem the lesser of the two evils on offer here, and the dreadful sounding pay as you print second option on offer here.I wouldn't touch it with an extra long barge pole.Pay for every printed page? Pay little and often? Very often? No thanks. It is the most offensive option a printer manufacturer could offer me.I checked replacement ink, and its pretty reasonable. About £14 a cartridge, black or colour.Available from Amazon too, so no hassle here. So, after avoiding the insidious sounding pay as you print, the setup is fine.It connects wirelessly easily and without much hassle. Its brilliant being able to print from our phones, laptop and desktop, all from one printer. It prints fine. A bit slow, but great quality.Black and white is nice and crisp.Colour is lovely. Good depth of colour, sharp edges and quality tonal breadth. It looks ok.Why don't printers all come in black?Instead of the dreary greys and off whites that every other peripheral or equipment has long since abandoned?Just give us black printers. My old one looks way cooler than this. But, as its wireless, I can hide it in a cupboard and forget its dated appearance. All in all...I like it.I'll use it. But as a second printer.I'll keep my old, speedy wired inkjet on my desktop. But use this one as a backup, handy to use from phones, or the wife's laptop, when we can't be bothered to fire up the desktop PC.It breaks no records, no new ground, but as a cheap, wireless option, you could do a lot worse.I'll be honest, I didn't use it for photocopies, scanning or anything other than printing.Which is what I recommend you do too.Unless you want to use a lot of ink.Which, as we have established, would only make sense if you have enough money to afford an actual photocopier or scanner.Helpful? Please hit the helpful button.Thank you ?

We’ve had hardly any issues with HP. Having had a printer from HP before, we needed another one for work (as a result of the current pandemic). The HP DeskJet Plus 4120 is light weight and has a relatively small foot print which means it can be placed on a desk or table with no issues. The printer comes with the power cable and two ink cartridges. Where the printer fails down badly is the initial installation. During set-up it asked for a user name and password. Admin was the user name but where was the password? After a bit of research, I discovered it was the PIN number on the back of the printer. What? Fancy not making that clear during set-up.Maybe someone should have reviewed the instructions before they were supplied with the printer. Once we got past that step, the rest of the installation was simple. People aren’t keen using the monthly payment method for ink cartridges but we’ve used it before and saved a fair bit as we do a fair bit of printing. The app that can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices is a bit and miss at times. There’s no problem printing directly from web pages but try printing a photo or document from a phone and it seems to hang up. In the end, we used the in-built printing app that comes with the phone and no issues. The printer allows you to scan documents and photos. The HP application called HP Smart provides quite a bit of functionality in being able to scan directly to PDF which is handy. The scanner is quiet. As for printing quality, we couldn’t really fault it. If you use better quality paper, the print output improves. There are a number of options to have a quiet print but this in turns results in loss of quality. The main bone of contention for potential buyers will be the cost of cartridges. Printers are sold at a loss as manufacturers recoup the costs with consumables. With our other printer that we use constantly, we subscribed to the monthly £1.99 plan and it’s paid for itself many times but if you’re only using the printer for occasional use, just buy the cartridges as and when required. A word of warning though. HP regularly update the firmware for their printers meaning that third party cartridges could be useless. The HP 4120 is a good generic printer with above average quality for print output. Installation could be simpler with the user name and password issues we encountered but apart from that, the printer ticks all the boxes.

This arrived very well packaged and on opening there is a quick start guide which is meant to help with the set up.Once the printer was out the box, I removed the blue tape and cardboard protection from the printer so it was time to plug it in and switch it on ready for connecting to my WiFi. Things were going well. The Quick start guide recommends using the HP Smart app to set up the printer so I dutifully downloaded via the handy QR code onto my Android phone and was ready to connect to my WiFi... and this is where my problems began.Printer is not found!Try again... printer not found. And again... printer not found.I did a manual "find printer" within the app and found it but it wouldn't connect to my WiFi.It kept saying my WiFi password was incorrect (which it wan't). It says if you are having trouble connecting to go to the website to set up so I open my Chromebook and go to the site mentioned but it needs to be done on a Mac or Windows so that was no good to me!I was now starting to panic so I reverted to the IT classic... I powered the printer off and on again and I restarted the app several times... and then as if by magic the printer shows up in the app as connected to my WiFi network.Magic? Maybe. Luck? Yes. Concerning? Definitely. With all that it took me about one hour to set the printer up which is not great. There is also no mention of when and where to put the ink in which is just bizarre. If you open the front flap you can see where the ink cartridges go (please see my photos) and they do securely click into place. So the connection setup process was bad and I consider myself pretty tech savvy. However once connected the printer itself is pretty good and operationally it prints and copies well. I printed via the HP app and also via Android and everything came out fine. It is also reasonably quiet in operation and feels well made.Ink can be ordered on a subscription plan and you do get 3 months free trial of this with the printer so depending upon your personal needs this could definitely be worth looking into.So overall the printer is good but was majorly let down by the set-up procedure. If you can put aside the pain of set up then you do end up with a good, well built printer.

I like this printer quite a lot and it is great that I can email any printing jobs from my Chromebook to the printer and it then prints. In the past, it has meant using a different printer in a different room to print anything off. When you set up your account with HP make sure you use the same email address on that account to send your documents to the printer email. The benefits of this printer are that it does come with full ink cartridges, it is a scanner, printer and copier, connects to my wifi and I can use an app on my phone. There is a couple of downsides as it is slow to start printing and to you have to go online to diagnose problems as there is no instruction booklet.I had to set the printer up via my phone app as my Chromebook does not recognise this printer, but to be fair there are very few off the shelf printers my chrome book would work with. There is no direct printer cable to plug in so you are totally reliant on internet connection. So, for home use it is ok and I have used HP printers before so I am used the slight quirks that come with them, such as the slow to start printing. It is a good general printer that has already been very useful as I have printed several documents from my Chromebook already via the email option. The display on the display panel is ok and shows you the basics such as ink levels, paper feed but any errors are shown with an exclamation mark near the relevant symbol on the display. Again this is where an actual booklet would have come in very handy rather than the very basic leaflets.I am happy with this printer and think it is about right for the price, there are several functions that I am able to access easily and if I were to use on my main PC I would be able to have more options via the PC rather than the phone app and for this reason, I would recommend it.

What a faff I had set it up. I hoped I would be like the lucky reviewers and would breeze through the setup on the app without a problem. Alas, not. It is not the printer that is the problem; it is a flaky app that is the problem. It wouldn't find my wifi, no matter what I did. Then it suddenly found wifi, but couldn't find the printer. I followed the app instructions to the letter, but that didn't work, so I had to faff around myself to get there by trial and error. I couldn't tell you what I did to get it to work; it was just accidental and not anything in the instructions.Registering for the 4-month free ink trial was a breeze. The supplied ink cartridges managed about 20 pages of colour and 30 pages of black - not ideal! But, the replacement ink was sent out in time before the ink ran out. You need to leave the printer on all the time for the best results for ink monitoring. The actual printer takes very little set up. It's just a case of pulling off securing tape and fitting the cartridges, which were easy. It does great colour print on normal 100gsm paper as part of normal documentation. Print speed is on par with any printer I have had; nothing fancy or fast about this. The top-loading photocopy section is so useful for multiple page photocopies.Once the ink free trial is over, I will pick the low usage, which is £1.99 for 50 sheets of print per month. You need to work out how much you think you will need during the free trial period, as if you go over your chosen amount, it is £1 per 10 pages charge on your account.

This HP DeskJet Plus 4120 is replacing an HP Photosmart B110 all in one printer which I've had for about 8 years and has been a great reliable printer. Both printers are similar in size but the 4120 is a bit lighter and has the 35-page auto-feeder for scanning and copying in bulk. Installing the ink that comes with it was easy but setting the printer up wasn't as easy as it should have been:It instructs you to use the "HP Smart" app to set it up so you need WiFi and a mobile device, although I guess it's possible you could just install it from "Printers & Scanners" in settings like a regular printer but I didn't try that. You need to sign up with personal details but that also signs you up forthe warranty which is goodIt tries to sign you up for the "HP Instant Ink" deal which is good or bad depending whether you want the dealThe app directs you to the HP website to install software but after selecting the printer it tells you to go to the app, so this seemed like a confusing circular system.Initially it didn't print even though it was showing as connected. I had to turn it off from the plug for a while after which it started working for some unknown reason. In summary, this is a lovely little printer from a well known brand, it looks like a mini version of one of those large office printers. The only downside was getting it set up and printing initially

No useful instructions in the box on how to setup the printer - just a completely useless 3-step pictorial card that tells you "connect the cables and install the app" - no mention of where paper is supposed to go. This being 2021, simple drivers are out and apps are in, and HP is no different - you need to install their "HP Smart" app from the Microsoft Store in order to print anything. Thankfully, some things don't change and much like the last HP printer I used nearly two decades ago, this one also failed to print after the required software was installed; I had to restart my computer before I could print anything.Since then, though, it's been smooth sailing - apart from the fact that HP's app really,*really* wants you to buy into their "Instant Ink" subscription service. That's incredibly annoying and I really wish they'd sod off with this nonsense.

The quality of the prints is great. The 3 months free instant ink deal included is great as well. But a word of warning on that, having signed up using the mobile app it did NOT apply the 3 months free, I had to call them and send a picture of the printer with the free trial sticker(!) to get them to apply it to my account.I've noticed that a few times the printer does not turn off correctly, sitting in a state with the power button flashing and it ignores all button presses, and the only way to get it to do anything is to unplug it at the wall and plug it back in. A few times trying to print it just does nothing with no errors, until we turn it off and on again. So I'm a little nervous about the long term usability or if the problems will get worse, but when it does work (which is most of the time) I'm very happy with it.

This was fairly easy to set up compared to what others have said in their reviews. I just thought it was worth highlighting how the 3 month free trial instant ink offer works. That was the bit that confused me. It says on the booklet included that you activate the free trial during set up, but it wasn't obvious. Basically you go through and set it all up and choose your instant ink plan which involves you submitting your payment details. Only after you have done all this, and I panicked that I had somehow missed out on my trial period..., but at the final stage it tells you that your free trial has been activated. The trial is actually a lot better than I thought. It is 4 months, rather than 3,and regardless of the monthly package you have chosen, it is actually 300 pages per month, soI am very pleased with that. :-)

Initially had a nightmare installing this, but after some investigation found it didn't like the WPA3 setting on my eero wifi setup, once I switched that off it joined straight away and the rest was a breeze. however, someone at HP's end had performed a software update that meant their country code mapping was wrong and had my device marked as being in Afghanistan so I was originally unable to enrol into smart ink. I found getting through o their support team to rectify this, somewhat painful. Once I eventually got through to a competent person it was easily sorted. however, getting there through a series of people for whom English was clearly not their first language was extremely painful.

The printer, scanner, and copier all work very well. The black ink ran out fairly quickly as I print out a lot of materials for school, however the XL sized cartridges are available and suit my needs. My one annoyance is that the software (hp print & scan) continues to advertise to you, to buy the "hp" ink renewal model (where you pay hp for every page you print, and they send you ink as you need it) . After paying for a product and buying the supplies to use it, I HATE being advertised to some more when I'm just trying to scan and print my documents. Don't let it fool you, you don't have to use their ink renewal program.Mind, this doesn't happen every time, just once in awhile.

As usual this product arrived within 24 hours. It was in an original HP box. The physical side of setting it up was simple. The setup process was a bit more difficult. I have used and set up printers for years, but this one took a while. The documentation was not great apart from installing the start up inks. I had some difficulty with putting them in, as you need to bend and fiddle them into their slots. I have fat fingers and left handed, so will use these excuses. The print quality seems very good, but have not yet printed a colour photo so will hold judgement. It is quite quick and would have had 5* but for the set up, which I can see some people having great trouble.

I’ve had a HP printer before and didn’t love it, so when I was given a chance to try this one I thought I’d give it a go.First of all I set it up and found this very straightforward and easy to do.I read other reviews about it being hard to do and to follow youtube when setting it up but thankfully I was able to do it myself. You can print scan and copy using the hp smart app.I’ve already printed a few documents which I found very clear and precise.Very impressed with this printed.Overall I think this is value for money and easy to use.I would recommend this product.

I bought this because I always had HP printers as they always worked very well but this one was a faulty printer and I got a refund. When trying to instal it, I got a message from HP saying that there was an issue in the past with windows 10 but it was fixed (don’t think so as it was my case). Also another reason for buying it was because with this product you got the instantink promotion which for this printer, according to hp website, didn’t exist. So, if this promotion is what is leading you to buy the product check on their website before buying it.

What I found a little hard to understand is the wireless set up, ie getting it to connect to home WiFi, as this part of its configuration could have been a little more user-friendly.I only printed a couple of pages, but the quality of text is just fine for everyday use. Even the grayscale output is not bad either. Also, the warming-up time is virtually zero, meaning you get the first page out as soon as you have clicked "print".Finally, it is very quiet, so I don't have to wake everybody up when printing my presentation notes early in the morning.
