The Intro:Following the huge price drop of the camera, I decided to give it a go since my faith in cheap Chinese copies had faltered following my terrible experience with the infamous SJ4000 action camera. At £149 and the numerous positive reviews I felt like I couldn't be let down too much, especially from a brand as renowned as GoPro.Since most of the details are already in the product description such as video quality and accessories included, I don't feel I need to dwell on them too much in this review. I will say that you do need to purchase your own microSD card to accompany the camera since it does not come with one - GoPro have a list on their website that outlines cards that work wellwith the camera since there are certain criteria it needs to meet. The Good:• Impeccable packaging with the clear plastic housing and various compartments to expose accessories and the necessary paperwork.• Video quality is astounding in good light such as outside - good detail and colour and its dynamic range is adequate for most.• Easy one-button function - although be aware that there is a few seconds wait before it starts capturing video after depressing the button.• Superb build quality with good grip on the body and decent glass covering the lens.• Extremely small and compact - you may have seen some people place/hold it in their mouths to get some really nice angles.• Battery life on my unit has been very good and lasts at least 2 hours shooting 1080p60. I guess time will tell how well it holds up.• Completely waterproof up to 10m (which is perfectly fine for all activities unless you are scuba diving) without any housing at all! This makes it very easy to film wherever you are.• Fantastic audio quality since it is not encased in a plastic housing. The Bad:• Video quality is not the best in low light situations - lacks detail and footage looks grainy.• Stills could be better - lack sharpness and detail.• Non-removable battery means you cannot change batteries whilst out filming - not ideal when in remote locations. You can use it as it charges but this nullifies the waterproofing of the device.• The camera is a single unit so any damage means the whole thing has to be replaced (as opposed to other GoPro cameras which are housed in a plastic shell which can be easily replaced). There may be the option to replace the glass covering the lens should that be necessary but will be a costly procedure. Also any damage to the lens will render the device completely unusable since this cannot be switched out.• Requires GoPro app or remote to access some features such as ProTune or also to alter some options - an update has meant you can change the video and time lapse settings within the camera but some other things are only accessible through the app which connects to the device through its built-in WiFi.The Summary:I am very pleased with my purchase of the GoPro HERO4 Session and I can finally say I am part of the GoPro family. For £149 you can't really argue with the quality you get from this tiny device. Despite criticisms from others, I stand by the device as a good way to get into POV and action/adventure filming without having to shell out a lot of money whilst not breaking the bank. Honestly, you might be tempted to go for cheaper Chinese cameras but from my experience they can be very hit-and-miss. At least with GoPro you know you are doing business with a company who have earned the trust of many professional athletes and casual users alike.

I have avoided anything go pro as they're too expensive, too big and ridiculous to fit to motorbike helmets in my opinion. The session caught my interest for its size, standard waterproof ability, simplicity and recently reduced price.I've tested it now for a couple of weeks. I had an issue where it wouldn't hold its charge for a single day, some research found you need to turn off the wifi then turn off the camera. Thankfully that solved it but this needs to be clearer, I didn't see that in the instructions or any reviews! The camera connects to the gopro app a little slowly but the app works well on a LG G4. Don't be put off by the preview video as it's not the quality you'll get once the files are downloaded. The final negative is a 12min file of 2gb takes 2 hours to transfer to your phone, so each time I've had to remove the sd card and transfer to my phone via a PC.Tested with a smatree chest mount running shooting 1080 60fps the quality is really good. On a motorbike you get an excellent view using this mount and impressive quality. I've also used a crocodile clip type mount I attached to my rucksack and again on a motorbike at high speeds and in the rain had no issues and quality of picture and sound is good.Battery lasted 1hr 45min in 1080 60fps mode. Charged in about an hour. The included low profile cage is much better than the standard one, I can't see why you'd use the latter. It even has a hole for a tether, ideal for paracord. I also rate the ball and socket mount that although stiff offers a lot of movement. Sadly it doesn't allow the session to sit flush for a really low profile footprint. I've therefore used the lowest mount supplied for the chest rig and the crocodile clip mount is built in so the session barely sticks out. Same for the smatree headstrap.Final thoughts is that the session looks very smart, is simple to turn on and off, has useful lights and beeps, has a smart coloured lens accessory, but £1.50 screen protectors work well and is an ideal camera for on and off road motorcycling. If you want to avoid a PC entirely I've found the android app 'androvid' best for trimming and merging.

I own a few go pro's and this one is right up there.Let's be clear, this is a significantly smaller camera, so of course there are going to be compromises - it's not trying to be just a smaller Go Pro 4, so you need to make sure this is the camera for what you need. The size is great, and even better it feels rock solid.. i would say a lot more so than a go pro 4. I've never been a fan of the design / format of previous go pros - i've always felt that have looked a little dated, and whilst they have been great from a functionality point of view... This on the other hand is stunning...it's small, just feels like it's been carved from a solid block of metal..The cages are nice too - they feel quite plastic, but are solid, and the ability to mount the camera within the cages at any angle is really useful.I use this camera in the main mounted to a rescue helmet and I use it to film training. It's a lot more discrete and sits on the side of the helmet far better - it feels more balanced, lighter and discrete. It records upto a couple of hours, which for my purpose it perfect. The sound quality is a lot better than previous go pro cameras within their plastic housing which is a plus. The app works great, and video is also great - not quite as sharp as a go pro 4, but still excellent. The only negative is i feel the buttons are not the most intuitive - i like the fact the main button turns gopro on and starts recording, so in use it's perfect.. but when trying to fiddle with settings, i struggle a little to get the right combination of key presses...My main recommendation is you consider what you want out of a camera. This is a small and perfectly formed camera for recording small amounts of action... Don't expect to get more than 2 hours out of it... if you want to record a weekend session of stuff then this is not for you... you can't add batteries, forgot trying to use external battery packs etc etc - whilst you can it's just not meant for that... if you need expansion then opt for a standard go pro...

Many people are comparing the Hero 4 Session vs the Hero 4 Silver. Both are equally priced, but both have different strengths and features. Overall, video-wise, the Hero 4 Silver wins, however I’m going to go over the scenarios where the Session is better. And it’s not so much the video quality, but rather the size. The Session dominates in three areas.1. Point-of-View Shots / Very light weight and compact reduces fatigue.2. More Mounting Options / Auto-rotates video when mounted upside-down.3. Waterproof without a Case / Piece of mind regardless of where you’re using itThe Perfect Point-of-View (POV) Action CameraThe new lightweight and compact design is perfect for reducing fatigue on weight sensitive activities. It might not be noticeable, but certain mounting a GoPro on a Crossbow or Forehead mount long enough and you’ll notice the difference. Some good examples of activities where the Session would shine as a POV would be:HelmetsForehead mountsSmall dronesFishing rodsShotgunsCrossbowsSelfie-sticksThe Perfect Secondary Action CameraAlthough the Session is ideal for POV shots, it lacks the 4K video quality that most expect from GoPro products. This is where why the Session is better utilized as a Secondary action cam.Hero 4 Session – POV ShotsHero 4 Black – Everything Else ShotsEase of UseThe two button design was very simple to use. The large button for record and the small one to activate the wifi. This is GoPro’s way simplifying the experience, while allowing anybody with a smartphone to use it as a viewfinder and to change the settings. All in all, I like the Session, but not the price tag. Yes, the video can always be better, but for the size, one can't complain.. except for the price.Should you buy one?If you're looking for a sleek new action cam for mounting in certain locations like a helmet, fishing rod or someplace where weight and size matters, then YES, you should get one. But keep your other GoPro for those other mounting locations for better video quality.

I don't usually write reviews but i was so impressed by this gopro that i felt compelled to leave one. I have read some poor reviews so i will address those...1) the image quality looks poor if you view it in the gopro mobile app. However, if you actually download it to your device and view it normally the quality is amazing. I have used it for both skiing and mountain biking (60fps/1080p/wide angle) and have been amazed at the clarity of both sound and video. Some people have also claimed that posting to Facebook provides poor quality, that is due to Facebook's compression not the device.2) To those people claiming that the wifi stays on when you turn it off and drains the battery (unless youuse the gopro mobile app to turn it off)...there is actually a second button on the back of the device that allows you to scroll the wifi on/off as well as all of the other key settings. It annoys me when people leave poor reviews simply because they are ill informed or can't be bothered to read the manual or seek advice.I would highly recommend this gopro to anyone that is looking for a cheaper, but still fully packed, action camera. Yes it has it's flaws, one of which is that you cannot exchange the battery. But i think the positives outweigh the negatives considerably.Give it a try, you won't be disappointed (if you know how to use it properly that is)! ;)Note: As with any other major electronic purchase i make on here...I ordered directly from Amazon not a third party.

This review is for the Hero Session. Lets get past the obvious points that the video isn't as good as say the Hero 4 Silver/Black and the battery isn't removable. The new interface with just two buttons is brilliant. Much easier than the previous Gopros and allows the fixed battery to provide a decent amount of life during a days shooting. Don't leave wifi on as you'll run it down much faster, just use the wifi to set the Session up. Pairing is easier with the Session using the small button on the back - selecting the App for phone connection or RC for the handy remote control.Video quality is good enough - stop worrying about it. Yes its not 4K but then I don't use 4K as there is too much data.I would prefer some faster frame rates for decent slo-mo video.Being able to rotate the Session 90 deg in its mount is extremely useful. No more assembling long mounts and the vibration that goes with them.Waterproof out-of-the-box is another winner. Keeps the size down and makes it easier to mount - plus the microphones work all the time. All in all a useful addition to the Gopro line-up. For those of you worried about the price It has already dropped £15 from its launch price and will drop some more - hopefully in time for Christmas.I like it that much I'm going to get another once the price is down.

I've owned many different versions of GoPro over the years including a Hero 4 Silver and the Session addresses the primary issue I had with all of them - the size and shape of the traditional GoPro is too big and bulky in many applications. The new camera still allows for all the creativity using the same mounts, brackets and attachments - but provides even more options. Mounted on the side or front of my motorcycle crash helmet it is extremely light and does not stick out at all. Video quality is not quite as good as the Silver, there is no fully featured 4K like the Black and you have to rely on the app to control all the settings or a combination of button presses. The major downside for me is the built-in non-removable battery, but it does last a good 2 hours on a full charge. The new price point makes this much more of a realistic option - it was the same price as a Silver. You won't go wrong with any GoPro, but think carefully what you want to do with it and whether size is the major consideration.

Absolutely LOVE this camera. I've had a few different GoPro's in my time, from the Hero HD to the Hero 3, along with some competitors (Contour, Kodak), and this is by FAR the best of the lot, in terms of size, package, price, quality.I'm into MTB and motorbikes, so form factor is a massive thing for me. The two cages this comes with provide unlimited mounting options, and the cube format means you can mount in the frames any which way you want. The convenience of one button on/record is fantastic when you have gloves on, or it's mounted to a helmet etc.Waterproof out of the box for 99% of uses. If you do want to take Scuba then it's not too much to buy a housing. Also the sound quality is better than any other camera I have used.Love it, would not even consider a Silver or Black. 4k is a novelty for me at the moment, and there is no need for an LCD when it has a superb wifi app.

Does what I expected of it well. Simple to use from the box and with the free app and WiFi you can use more detailed user defined settings. Default beeps are a bit annoying in quieter places but can be turned off using the app. It has no screen so you cannot review immediately in camera but the free app does let you see what you have captured and also control the camera with a live view on screen if within built in WiFi range.Only downside is the free GoPro studio which only works for time lapse and not with videos on my PC. It's a graphics card issue as the software required very up to date card that my PC doesn't have. This is an a post production problem and not a problem with capturing the raw video in the first place but beware if your computer is not brand new. The Studio software works very well with time lapses.

after reading so much mixed reviews about the go pro hero 4 session I finally bit the bullet and went for it after price being reduced to £149.at first I was really disappointed as I recorded a few short clips then streamed them back via the built in wifi onto my iPad,picture was horrendous, jumpy and blurry, also in live view picture is slow jumpy and blurry.not at all what I expected.but then I tried downloading the video onto my iPad,completely different story.play back smooth in full hd,exactly what I was hoping for, combine with iMovie app for editing, then upload to you tube.simple, takes great quality video just needs to be down loaded onto a device to view properly, all in all a great smallcamera for the money.going to have a lot of fun making movies with it and would recommend to anyone.

The Gopro Hero4 session works excellently for the purpose I bought it for - general use! I've had it mounted on my skis, windsurf mast, in the ground, and on a tripod doing time lapses, all of which were superb, considering it is a durable action camera as opposed to a dslr... The one press button for starting and stopping footage is quick and easy - and saves faff when in a hurry to start filming! The auto-compilation of photos having shot in time-lapse mode is very useful, in conjunction with GoPro studio - making time lapses quick to produce, and to add music to if desired. Overall, this is an excellent camera, although take into consideration that there is no removable battery,so if you want to record for a long period of time, you will have to use an external power pack.

I love this product, I bought it to go to Italy and walk up Vesuvius with including when I fell over on the Volcano and it took a good hit from the floor and is still almost like no scratches or anything! I love the fact that this version of the Go Pro is so light-weight and compact which reduces how much battery it uses which is great in my case. It also auto-rotates the video when mounted upside-down, and what really impressed me was that the go pro is water-proof without the case... WOW! Also the WI-FI/Bluetooth conects to my phone straight away and I can view it. However please be aware that when viewing the image,time-lapse or video in the go pro mobile app but if you download it to your device it looks amazing!

This is the second GoPro I have owned and it is soo much better than my old one (old one was a hero 3 white). Firstly being able to use it without a waterproof shell is wonderful and worry free, secondly it is a doddle to fit onto the side of my bike helmet and doesn't cause much wind resistance due to its compact size, thirdly the microphone is much better due to the removal of a waterproof housing and a dual front and back microphone system. There are other improvements too but I'm getting tired of typing so I'll let you decide how good it is :)Overall if upgrading from an old GoPro get this, if not consider all your options first and think about the environment it will be used in (especiallyif water is present!)

I've been debating whether to get a GoPro for years but was so confused by all the different models that I just kept putting it off... Then I saw this little baby and my heart was set on it.Incredibly easy to use, and it even has an App for the Apple Watch so I can control it from my wrist!Highly recommended, footage is excellent and photos are great too, I just need to book somewhere amazing in the summer to take full advantage of my new best friend - my GoPro Session.

Great piece of kit!For the price, you can't go wrong. Built in WiFi makes it quick and easy to view what the camera sees when it's in a mount etc.The auto record feature as soon as you turn it on is great, saves time messing about to try and get it recording.Waterproof as well, which helps easy your mind when you're out in the elements.Durability is as you'd expect from GoPro.If you're happy with the battery life on this, then I'd go for it over any other GoPro.
