There are a good number of lovely projects all ready to complete in this lovely set. There are pictures of a butterfly, a heart, a flower, a cupcake and an owl all ready to sew and then make into a special project. There is a frame for the owl, the butterfly is to be made into a cushion, a scented filled heart, the cupcake is designed to adorn a needle case and the flower is for the pencilcase. The set comes with everything you need for the projects – filling for the cushion and the heart and there are apple-scented beads as well. There are pre-cut felt pieces in a range of colours, embroidery threads also in a range of colours, a cross-stich hoop. This set is designed for 7 years and up,but my 9 and 11 year-olds have been really enjoying making these projects – my 11 year old in particular, as she has more patience and a greater love for these kinds of crafts, but my younger daughter has cross-stitched the heart and my older daughter has completed the owl and framed it. During the school holidays they are planning to finish the other projects (I think they were whispering about making the needlecase for me for a Christmas present!)All in all a lovely set – the packaging does seem to be appealing to the younger audience, so probably wouldn’t appeal to children much older than 11 – although actually the contents would be great for an older teen who wanted to try cross-stich for the first time if they could overlook the packaging, which is attractive, but just not “grown-up”. I think a 7 year old would probably need quite a lot of help – my 9 year old needed some and my 11-year old hardly any guidance at all (she read the instructions, but my 9 year old didn’t have the patience to!)

Proper cross stitch kit for over sevensThis kit comes in a cute little cardboard suitcase and is labelled as suitable for a seven-year-old. Inside you get everything you need to make the follows: an owl picture which you frame in the embroidery frame. Butterfly, heart, flower and cupcake pictures. A butterfly cushion, a scented heart, a needle book and pencil case. Once finished these make lovely gifts for female relatives. The raw materials are as follows: wadding, a pack of ready-cut felt shapes in green pink purple and blue, a pack of ready-marked cross stitch patterns. An embroidery frame. Some scented beads, some pink rick-rack decoration, a spool of white cotton and a packet of embroidery silks. The silks come in a range of red, orange, dark purple, light purple, blue, yellow, pink and green. This is a proper cross stitch kit. It comes with full instructions and embroidery needles. You don't need any prior knowledge because the cross stitch stitch is explained in the instructions. And you don't need to count the squares because the pattern is printed onto the fabric so you just need to follow the colours. That said, some supervision, encouragement and assistance from a competent adult needleworker wouldn't go amiss. This cross-stitch kit will delight any seven-year-old and above who is interested in needlework and trying their hand at cross-stitch. I would not recommend giving this to a younger child though because they are going to have to do quite a bit of sewing before they achieve a result. But for the right child, this is perfect.

Galt Toys produce some really great craft kits for children and this one is one of my favourites. A great way to introduce the wonders of cross stitch to young children (a perfect present for children aged between seven and twelve) … this kit contains five separate cross stitch projects. With this kit your child can make the following items:A lovely colourful cross stitch butterfly cushionAn stunning owl pictureA beautiful scented heartA useful and attractive pencil caseAnd a cupcake needle bookThe kit contains the following:Five pieces of coloured printed cross stitch fabric.Felt pieces already cut to size for the projects15 skeins of good quality embroidery threadA circular cross stitchframePink braid for finishing/edgingStuffing for the cushion and heartTiny translucent apple scented beadsSowing thread (white)Two needlesInstructions. All of the above comes neatly packed inside a very useful case complete with closure and metal handleAll of the items are good quality and well made, the instructions are fairly easy to follow although I did have to help my daughter with the stitches until she got the hang of it.This is really a fantastic kit for kids and you get a lot for the price … my twelve year old daughter has already made and framed the 'Owl Picture', which is now hanging in pride of place on her wall.

The Galt Toys Cross Stitch Case would make a lovely gift for a child aged approximately 6-10 years of age. The set arrives in an adorable carry case, and contains everything that your child may need to begin their first cross stitch projects - the fabric, the felt, embroidery thread, frames, needles, stuffing and an instruction guide.Unlike traditional cross stitch, the pattern is printed on the fabric, so that the child need not try and count across to the correct part. This makes it easier for them to concentrate on making good stitches - taking away the stress of going wrong. What is lovely about the set is that the end products are potentially giftable as well. So,this set would also make an excellent pre-Christmas craft activity for your child, who can then gift the resultant items to people on Christmas Day! I am sure friends and relatives would be touched by such a lovely handmade gift. The case can then be reused to store ongoing cross stitch projects that your child may wish to enjoy.Overall, there is so much to love about this set. I highly recommend it!

This is an ideal gift for a child from 6 to 9 years old. The case is not very strong but a good size and at least it’s not plastic! The contents are appropriate for the age group and with supervision and a little encouragement and support, the child can make several items while they are learning the basics of cross stitch. This supports the learning of needle skills in general, which is always useful. The set is clearly targeted at little girls, and quite stereotypical little girls too, which is a shame. It could so easily have a wider range of contents and colours that would span a wider interest group. Boys can sew. Girls can like cars and trucks.Children across race and gender divides can be encouraged to learn more about each other through toys and it would be good to see steps made towards this in this type of toy. However, as it stands it is a good, practical set to encourage any child to learn to cross stitch and to get a sense of confidence in sewing which can be developed later if they choose.

This is a nicely presented gift craft set containing five small cross-stitch projects aimed at crafter aged 7+. The contents roughly half-fill the little storage suitcase and have been well-selected to appeal to girls of seven up. The small size of the projects is probably a critical element for an introductory kit like this: they offer sufficient complexity and detail to get youngsters started, and satisfied that they have achieved something without being so dauntingly large that the projects are never seen through to completion.Almost everything that is necessary to complete the projects is included in the suitcase - including a decent little embroidery frame and a pair of needles. The only extras that are likely to be needed are a pair of scissors and some adult assistance. Whilst the case might not be brim-full, it represents reasonable value for five complete little projects, instructions and a nice storage suitcase.

I love Galt Toys, they are always well thought out and good value. I got this for my granddaughter, and it will be fun to make these projects together. The whole kit comes in a nice cardboard suitcase, and you get everything you need to make a butterfly cushion, framed owl picture, scented heart, flower pencil case and cupcake needle book. You get 2 needles, all the thread and trimmings, stuffing for the cushion and apple-scented beads for the heart. The felt pieces are pre-cut and the patterns are printed onto the fabric,so it's not too difficult, but it will still require concentration and a bit of help from a grown-up.This is described as an ideal introduction to cross stitch, and I'd definitelyagree with that, but it would be nice to see another set more aimed towards boys; this whole thing is really girly and it would be great to see boys being introduced to cross stitch too.

This is a cute little kit. The "briefcase" is nice to keep everything together and tidy between sessions, and it contains all that is required to make 5 little pieces. It is listed as 7 years and up, and I would say it is at the lower end of that. I think 7-9 would be the limit for this kit, as an older child will find it all looks a little "babyish". Doing the embroidery could not be simpler - just stitch over the matching colours on the material. The pieces are not too large or complex, so should be completed in a single afternoon, and they look great when done, so give the child a real sense of achievement (and perhaps encouragement to try more advanced cross-stitch kits in future).A great gift from a nana to her grandchild, with the bonus that you may get one of the pieces back as a keepsake memory too!

Unlike some craft kits, this one has achievable and interesting projects which are made with proper materials - there's a full sized embroidery needle and everything you need including clear instructions showing you how to make a cross stitch. The actual needlepoint pictures vary from a small quicker project through to a larger piece when your child's confidence has grown. They are printed in colour so a pattern doesn't need following- clever! The case it comes in is cute and a handy way of keeping everything together.Overall a great present item for the crafty child - quality set which is great value. My daughter thinks it's great and we would recommend!

This is a great kit! My seven year old daughter has made two items so far (the owl and the needle book). Everything that's needed is in the lovely case with the exception of scissors. The instructions are so very easy to follow and the colour printed patterns on the cross stitch fabric make it very easy to get a successful outcome. My daughter needed some help, but she is really proud of herself and has taken her work into school to show her teacher and classmates.I think this is a great introduction to cross stitch for children and I expect we'll soon have to go shopping for more fabric and embroidery thread to create our own projects!

Lovely cardboard case with metal carry handle packed with a wide variety of Cross Stitch projects, 5 in total, including ideas for; a cushion, heart, needle/pencil case and pictures. Everything you need is here including full instructions and needle set. The kit is marketed for children 7 years plus and is perfect for children who have never tried cross stitch before. All of the patterns are clearly illustrated and easy to follow, full instructions included, but; a little bit of help is recommended for younger children. Nice little craft project. I particularly like the card suitcase which makes a lovely work box for future projects.
