Bought to expand my little boys growing collection of Marble Runs. Hes nearly 6 and has several sets now and we feel the Galt variety are the best available from our experiences. Made from a solid and durable plastic, the pieces all fit together firmly and create a fairly rigid structure unlike others. Also, all Galt varieties are compatible with each other and most other brands too which is helpful. This is, i think, the largest set available and comes with a range of fun pieces not contained within other sets that add a nice bit of a variety to the experience. Same vibrant colouring as found on other sets means they all blend together well too.My son loves the fact he now has several setsmeaning he can really put his young engineering skills to the test by building some very complex and lengthy runs around the house. With my supervision, we discovered we now have enough pieces to start half way up the stairs and allow the route to run down through the front room. Even i get wrapped up in trying to enhance the complexity of the run and we have lots of fun trying new ideas and testing them out. Despite having plenty of pieces now, we do still encounter a shortage of base pieces and supporting pieces, but this is possibly down to our over engineering. Even purchasing this set on its own will give you plenty of variation and fun, just on a smaller scale of course. We started with a 30 piece pack i believe and have grown from there so 100 pieces is more than enough to see if your little one enjoys the concept. Great toy, hours of fun and made to last, would definitely recommend.

This has been in use a couple of days now and has proved a great hit with all. Instantly entertaining to kids and great for adults to interact with too, this set has many advantages. Unlike cheaper versions this branded item is well constructed and has a solid thick feel (any balance issues are down to skill as an architect, if you build something too tall without supports it will wobble). The real marbles included have a satisfying weight and there are plenty of them, they are just regular marbles so you will have no issues replacing any that you lose.It kept 3 children occupied (5, 2 3/4 and 2 1/2 - keep marbles away from very young children),each having their own pieces and constructing their own marble runs - you don't have to make 1 big joined up effort! Of course daddies construction, left as a surprise for the next morning also went down well (you can have several starting places for the marbles to allow for many hands to pile them in.The amount of pieces in the Mega marble run are more than enough, if not too much, you should not need a larger version than this.Nice to add would be another piece which alternates the marbles routes and the tri-pieces pictured over the circular swirling pieces don't seem to fit (you get to legs locked in but forcing the third in makes it come out again) - still this seems to be decorative only and a minor quibble. If you are considering one of the cheaper alternatives check the reviews for cheap feeling, plastic marbles and inability to use real ones - stick with this one and you will have no such issues and hours of entertainment.

It's marble run, what's not to love? The kids need help with this, and how anyone can make anything 'amazing' easily with just one set (we have 2) I don't know, you'd have to be very good at planning! It takes me a while to put a run together and everyone wants a say in the creativity process. We found with one set that there were never enough riser bits to fulfil our marble-run fantasies. Nonetheless everyone (me, various 2 - 7 year olds) likes playing with this when it comes out (it's not the kind of toy we'd play with every day). With the 2 sets we can make just anything we want (extremely tall and extremely long marble runs are popular here). As said,I don't think these sets come with nearly enough single plastic risers - they could do with a set of long tubes of different lengths to fill in bits which are just acting as supports - a tower of single bits is not especially stable... Inevitably some bits get broken (the ones with cut outs/spinners). I guess they want you to buy multiple sets. I did. I wouldn't pay full price either for what is essentially a pile of bits of coloured plastic, although the quality is fine. This is one of the few toys we've got which has been played with over years. The pieces fit together well, it can be difficult to match them all up but that's just the way it works. It is an extremely noisy toy once it's got marbles going through it.

I would call this "Lego for marbles".A big box, with of separate colourful and robust pieces, which can be put together in endless ways to create sturdy, yet intricate contraptions for rolling marbles. The marbles roll smoothly, without sticking. They also make some interesting and entertaining noises - banging, clattering, bouncing, whirling. If you build a full and varied run, then release several marbles in quick succession with everything moving at once (wheels turning, lots of noise - bouncing, clattering, whirling), the whole thing can look quite interesting, almost spectacular. There are no instructions or "suggested patterns" - it's a case of simply opening the box and getting on with it,and to be honest, that isn't really an issue - it's fun to work it out. There is a photo of a completed marble run on the front cover of the box, however I think that is more of a suggestion than a definite promise of what you can build, because some of the "key" pieces in the box were a different colour from the photo.A few marbles are provided to start you off, and we discovered that the "standard" smaller marbles also work perfectly well. Finally, as with Lego, it can be broken up and rebuilt at any time - ideal for children with an appetite for destruction.

This marble run is one of our favourite toys and is providing hours and hours of fun for the entire family. We first got the Galt Super Marble Run to our son when he was 2 years 9 months, and now gave him this new bigger set for his fourth birthday, to combine the two. At first he and his big sister were watching us build the run and only plopped in the marbles under supervision, now they are building more and more complicated runs by themselves. It is fun for adults and teenagers, too, especially if one wants to rise to the challenge of assembling all pieces into several continuous and intermingling pathways. The pieces are made of good quality plastic and fit together snugly, resulting in a sturdy construction, while both assembly and disassembly are easy even for children. The primary colours of the pieces are pleasing to the eyes and timeless. The special pieces are also really well designed and fun. My only gripe (not really) is the photo on the box: It shows a construction that has several unsupported columns and is quite unstable, and for some reason my son currently always wants us to build the run "as it is supposed to be" - let's hope this is just a phase :-).

I had been umm-ing and ahh-ing about whether I could justify buying this marble run for a while, as we already have a marble run that had been given as a present. However, our existing marble run caused so much frustration with the kids as it was of such poor quality - several of the pieces were warped as the plastic was thin, and they didn't fit together evenly as some were very stiff and others just fell apart and wouldn't "stick". I suspected the Galt version would be better as my kids play with a Galt one I'd had as a child at my parents' house (still going strong 30 years on!). Anyway, I am SO pleased I decided to buy this - what a difference! You can immediately see that this is a QUALITY product - the plastic is sturdy, not flexible, and the pieces slot together as they should. Another bonus, as I think others have said, is that it fits normal sized marbles (not the case with the other one we had). Kids are thrilled, and as am I, as I don't keep getting called over to fix something that can't be fixed. Very happy.

My son loves this and i'm not sure why some people have given it a bad review. He got it last year just before he turned 4, at first he couldn't build it alone and needed help but he soon got the hang of it and its one of his favourite toys. There are some instructions to show you how to build a couple of different marble runs but really you can build them however you like. This really is a great product, my brother had a galt marble run as a child, it must have been at the very least 15 years ago and we still use the pieces now as extra pieces for our new set. So they have shown they are durable and lasting. Its so easy to build different runs, they only usually fall down if they arent balance right etc.Proper full size glass marbles were included, i mention the size as some sets I looked at features smaller plastic balls rather than actual marbles. The only negative point I have is that it isn't as colourful as other sets i've seen but the fact that the quality seems much better makes up for it.

This is really a fantastic, honest, good quality toy. We've been having hours upon hours of fun since I bought it for my son's third birthday almost a year ago. The pieces are sturdy and fit well together, there is a very good variety of different tracks, and possibilities are endless. The selection of pieces is very good, e.g., there is a sufficient number of the short cylinder pieces. Many toys pretend to be more than they are and disappoint, but this one is an all-round success. I'm thinking of buying a second one to build ever bigger runs, let's see. I bought this with a bag of 50 Cat's Eye Marbles which work very well (and make a hell of a noise when we let them run down all at the same time).Very highly recommended.Update May 2017: A year or so ago we did indeed buy a second one, so now we can build runs so high and large that the marbles take a minute to go through them. Still lots of fun for our now 6- and 4-year-olds and their friends. Definitely one of our best and most enduring toys.

Really happy with this toy, keeps adults and toddlers engaged for long periods of time. Plenty of pieces in this mega set, to make large runs if you want. The circular pieces which send the marbles swirling round and round, are particularly good. In the box you are given 4 photos of different runs, from simple to very complicated, and you can copy these if you choose. Once you get the hang of what you are doing, you can then proceed to improvise and come up with your own designs. The pieces are good quality, sturdy plastic. Your constructions will readily collapse if you knock them by accident, of if like us you have a curious baby crawling in the vicinity, but i have not found this to be a problem,as part if the fun is building and re-building it and changing the layout. If it was just one permanent moulded piece of plastic which never changed, i think it would get boring, but making bigger and better runs is part of the enjoyment.

Really great product. Was meant for my 4 year old but his mummy has practically stolen it! The point is to play with it, making your own runs not slavishly follow the picture on the box! Endlessly fascinating! The picture on the box can be made (I tried it because people said it couldn't) but it is a bit fiddly and you should really play with it first to figure out how to support it before you try. Also you need to turn the legs to make the balance better. It doesn't take working for NASA to figure out that a square is a better shape to support the bottom of a tower but the straight line makes the photo better. Think outside the box a bit and it is a great toy.The only thing which would make it better is another switch piece so that you can make more outputs for a single input. Maybe I just need to get another set! My son is nowhere near ready to play with the whole thing but makes mini runs... when he is allowed to play with it.

This set allows you to make some really good runs for the marbles that can take a reasonable time to get down. I make them and the little man feeds in the marbles. It didn't take him long to realise that the marbles need to be put in from the highest point built.Fun for me and great for learning about cause and effect for him.Well recommended.--- UPDATE ---I think this has to be about the most used toy of any kind Little Man has. Its been on his Top 10 list for about 2 years. sometime he goes a couple of weeks and its the only thing he wants to play with. Only one part has broken - the central support for a 'whirlpool', but this is not the end of the world.I also bought 16mm ball bearings for the set - heavier and prettier than plain ol'marbles.Cannot recommend enough!

We bought this marble run for our grandson's 3rd birthday and he loves it. We bought this particular set owing to comments from other reviewers. It is definitely sturdy enough for a three year old to deal with and doesn't keep falling apart. Obviously, the higher it is built the less sturdy it becomes but that's the case with any toy of this nature. It is absolutely mesmerising and there are so many different styles of "run" you can make with it. His 5 year old brother also loves it as do his parents!! To make it more exciting, we did buy an extra bag of marbles which, when they are all put onto the run, is a real spectacle. The only thing to watch is that one or two marbles can be slightly larger than others and they get stuck in the run.Just have to remove them from the set.

This is brilliant in every way! I was nearly put off buying it by some of the negative reviews, but the positive ones swayed me in the end! I'm so glad I bought it: My 5-year-old grandson loves it and so do I, to the extent that I'm buying another so that we can make some mega, mega runs! The pieces fit well together and are of good quality. Instructions are not needed - it's much more fun to play around with the pieces and learn by trial and error the best way to make a stable run. There are loads of ways to combine the pieces and my grandson can make simpler runs on his own. He is learning so much from this toy. Building runs is fun and then watching and hearing the marbles cascade down is a total joy!Anyone who enjoys playing with Lego will love this. I'm off to play now!

Awesome, we bourght this for my sons 7th birthday. When we opened the box I admitt I thought that we'd made a mistake. The kids though have played with it so much. Hours and hours of great fun making crazy combinations for the marbles to run down, they really think about where the marbles will run and the obstacles that are going to stop the marble running. We've had some crazy builds! The items are strong and well made, no rough edges or misshapen. In fact all three of my kids love it they are 3, 5 and now 7. It would maybe have been nice at the beginning to have some instructions or ideas, but the kids soon over came that and are then not limited to other people's ideas or instructions.

4.2.2018

Honestly can't understand the 1* reviews from people who are complaining about either no instructions or it being too difficult/impossible to build the run pictured on the front of the box. Fortunately they didn't put me off buying it! It's definitely possible to build the picture on the box BUT that's missing the whole point in this toy!! The fun part is just playing around and building your own combination. My 2 year old is still a bit young to do it himself but he loves helping me build it and put the marbles in. Smaller kids will definitely need help from an adult but it's a long lasting toy they will play with on their own for years to come.
