I used to have three cold-water fish, and I used this Fluval Mini Filter in the tank. The one fish lived for six years, and the other two lived for eight years. I know fish can potentially live for longer, but still, I assume things must have been okay in the tank and with the filter! One problem I have with filters is that no matter how impressive they may be, they will not stick to the side of the tank. I don't know why, and nobody else seems to mention that particular problem in reviews. But I would keep walking into the kitchen to find the filter floating around in the tank. Well, there is no problem of that happening with this filter! The suction cups are bigger than the ones on some filters, and I find they do well and truly stick. In fact, I often have difficulty trying to get the thing off the side of the tank to clean it! But that's better than the filter constantly slipping and falling away from the glass. This filter is a bit bigger and bulkier than some, but it is definitely made very well. It is sturdy and doesn't fall apart. It is easy to clean, and there is a sponge inside which can be cleaned and re-used a number of times. The only thing I would say about this filter is that I always notice a buzzing sound, which can get quite loud at times. A lot of people on here say that this filter is quiet, or even silent, but I cannot relate. My last two Fluval Mini filters buzzed.I have recently acquired a new tank and two fish friends, and after trialling a different filter (it wouldn't stick to the side of the glass) I remembered this filter and was happy to see they are still available. Once again, it is well and truly stuck to the glass. And once again, it is making a buzzing sound. The sound doesn't bother me as such, I just don't understand why it makes that sound and why it gets quite loud at times.Overall, this is a filter that I trust and have always come back to. I will be sticking with this filter from now on.

I have had a fish bowl, ca 30 litres, which had a filter/air pump, this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Interpet-0620-Goldfish-Bowl-Filter/dp/B0025U3OGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343122013&sr=8-1It was awful, we have had so many casualties, and none of the fish shops we went to explained the dead fish were due to the filter being rubbish. So, we finally cottoned on after doing some research, and bought the Fluval mini filter, and it made a difference within one hour. It works in the fishbowl (you don't need a rectangular tank), as you can lie it flat on the gravel. It creates a bit of a current, which they seem to like, and it is totally quiet. This was important to me, as I can't stand buzzy noises, but I cannot hear it at all. I turned it on outside of the tank first to check, but that was really noisy, so don't get fooled by that! It will go quiet in the water. It filters the water crystal clear, and the current "blows" up some of the dirt from the gravel, so all in all the bowl is now much, much cleaner.Only one small point is to make sure that even if it is in the gravel, you have to insert both the suction cups, as the gap that is left if the suction cup is out, is small enough for tiny little fish to get in and die. (tetras for example).

I needed a filter for my 15L tank as my built-in filter that needed wool filter died on me slowly. I have a larger filter of this maker for my larger tank. These are guaranteed to work well and they do. They are very easy to clean out and reading the cleaning instructions is a must. Adding filter liquid to the sponge is advised and the whole thing is so quiet that you have to check whether it's working or not. I make sure I have plenty of replacement sponges so that I can rinse then soak the used sponge in boiling water to kill off any bugs or snail eggs. Rinse them out and leave to dry so that its fresh for next water change. The sponges don't need renewing very often.I have no problems with the bottom sucker on the smaller filter but I do on my larger filter, but as long as you push the sucker down into the slot with a fine screwdriver it should stay in the device.

I have this in my 55L tank, and it does a great job. It's extremely quiet! I recommend this filter if you have a small tank, and need something that doesn't sound like a jet engine!!Very easy to use and clean. Simply take it out of the water after unplugging and then take the top end off. Remove the sponge from the bottom and give it a good clean. Pop it back in, all done.It creates a nice gentle flow in the water which is perfect for my Fancy Goldfish. She doesn't like strong currents, so this is perfect.I came back to buy a second filter because my goldfish is so damn messy! So now I have two running in my 55L tank and it's still much more quiet than the filter that came with the tank.Highly recommend if you want a silent filter that actually is silent.Obviously at night you will hear a faint buzzing, but still better than the sound of a jet engine ;)

I've not been using this for long but it seems very good so far, it's really quiet and makes the water nice and clear. I initially bought it to replace a rubbish filter that was supplied with a 29litre tank I also bought from Amazon. I didn't realise how bad that one was until I replaced it with this. I have live plants in my tanks and with the old filter there was always plant debris everywhere within days of a water change/gravel clean, this one actually does the job and gets rid of it. I'm knocking off one star because the flow is FAST for a small tank and there is no way of adjusting or redirecting it.I actually wanted to use it with a betta fish but he's going into a different tank now with a Dennerle Nano filter!

I put this in my 80L tank. That’s right you heard me. And, it works a treat. I purchased some cumbersome filter for £20 off amazon which broke within 2 months and this little filter has much better suction than that and doesn’t look unsightly. I don’t mind about having a large filter but I took a punt on this one working in my larger tank and it seems to have paid off as the water remains crystal clear. My only gripe is the price. It’s a tiny bit of kit for the money and should be sub £15 in my opinion. But you pay for the name and the reliability. Fingers crossed this filter continues to do a great job.

This product is very easy to use and does a great job. I have a medium size tank of gold fish and needed a pump I could clean out as the ones I have bought previously have been hard to clean thoroughly. The top clips off this pump and the sponge can be removed allowing you to clean it out and the inside of the pump too. When I put it in the tank the water was merky and immediately I could see the pump drawing the grime out. Since washing it out its doing a great job again and because it is a good size you can leave it a while without having to clean it again.Great product would recommend.

My filter just took 1 week to arrive, it was very well packaged, great seller! It seems like a sturdy filter, there is a soft buzzing sound off it compared to my very quiet old filter, it also doesn't create as much surface disturbance to the water as my older filter but I can really see all of the tank debri being sucked into the canister which is great! I'm going to give it a few weeks and see if it makes any changes to my tank, I have hope that it will be a good filter based on all reviews I've read about the product.

Bought this after I ad couple of mollies dead because I had a bad filter installed (it came with the tank ). I could see a dfference in a couple of hours straight away as the water became so crystal clear and you could tell it is working properly. It is easy to clean, you just take the foam off and wash it. For those parts that is difficult to reach(inside the filter) I use an ear cotton buds. The only downside is that the foam replacements are a bit pricey I would say, but overall very good product.

Having tried two other small filters for my 24 ltr tank, and still having poor water conditions I bought the Fluval Mini. It proved to be an inspired decision, the water is now crystal clear, the filter runs almost silently ( I have to look to checjk it is still working!) it doesn't need cleaning as often and the fish appear much happier and healthier.I rang Fluval just to check that I didn't need an air stone too ( I didn't ) and was given pleasant, helpful advice. An excellent purchase.

Had this filter a while now in my 30 liter tank with 2gold fish and is works very well. My tank is a lot cleaner than our neighbors (not boasting :) ) and as the other comment says all you need to do is clean the filter every month as opposed to buying new ones (although they will still need to be replaced eventually). Not sure why the other person experienced the problems they did, I keep mine about 1cm under the water and have never had fish gasping for air. It is also very quiet.

Great for a small tank, using it in a 25 litre tank. Its quiet - make sure you put the out spout 1cm under water. Really seems to clean it without swooshing the fish all over the place - my previous filter was so powerful if shifted the sand at the bottom of the tank. This one seems gentle for small fish, but still cleans. Easy to take apart and rinse the filter material in the old water during a water change. For the price its good value and would recommend.

I bought my frugal mini filter from the pet shop years ago, and I have used it in three different tanks, I now have a 110ltr tank with a commet goldfish and would you believe this thing handles this volume very well, so there really is no need to buy fluval's higher volume water filters at all what so ever, I mean I might actually buy another one of these but I don't really think it will ever be necessary, very good little filter this.

It’s a good filter for a small tank say about 10 gallons. It gives good flow, I set mine just under the waterline to give some surface movement. You need to take it out the water to clean the sponge as it can be a bit tricky to get the cover off.I actually use mine to back up another power filter I have running but I think it would be ok on its own.

This is the only filter I will use in my tank. I have a 45 litre tank with one large fantail who is 8 years old. The filter is quiet, works well without having a forceful jet of water and is very easy to clean. I have just replaced my original filter after 8 years but have kept most of the parts as spares as they still fit the new filter.
