I have a Fluval 304 filter on a 50-gallon freshwater aquarium, and I've been using these foam filters for years. I LOVE the Fluval filter... it's worked consistently and wonderfully for me for quite some time and I've not found any other filter that I've experienced or think would work as well. The Fluval 304 has 4 filtration stages, the first of which is these foam filter blocks. BEWARE... the are sold in packages of two, but the 304 (and 305) filters require FOUR of these blocks. In other words, if you want to completely replace the foam filtration stage, you have to get TWO packages. That being said, the filter works great for me and my aquarium needs only occasional maintenance.I know that there are knock-off products out there, and I've tried some in the past, but the quality of the material hasn't been the same in the ones I've tried. Since the key to making the Fluval filter work is to ensure that the water passes through each filtration stage, it's important that this foam filter block fit properly and maintain its shape. I've had other knock-off products that lose their shape, which disrupts the function of the filter. To me, it's worth it to spend a few bucks more and ensure that the filter works as intended.

At one time these were made better with tighter pores. They now have very large pores and don't catch as much as they used to. This means my media gets full of gunk more quickly and needs rinsing more often. One plus is that I like that these Fluval filters are individually wrapped, and I trust the brand, but it does not justify the high cost for a couple pieces of foam. (I usually buy the 406 size for my 306 canister and cut to size. The cost is about the same and I have the benefit of using the ends I cut off in my HOB filters).I ordered generic replacement foam pads and in comparison the generic pads seem to work just as well for half the cost. The generic replacement filters:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028RWOKC/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not much to say. This is the standard brand name filter replacement for 200/300 Fluval canister filter. These slap right in and you don't have to worry about cutting your own filter out of a big block. They last a decent amount of time. Fluval says to only replace them every 6 months. Make sure you don't replace all of them at the same time though because they hold beneficial bacteria for your tank. Luckily they are just cheap enough that I don't feel ripped off buying them, unlike many replacement filters. If they were any more expensive though, it would be a lot cheaper to buy foam filter in bulk and cut it to size. The plus, is that these make doing fishy maintenance only take 10-15 min,and another 10 for a water change.

I own two very large, red-earred sliders, and out of all the pets I've owned, cleaning after them is a nightmare. I use a Fluval model 205 external filter, and these foam blocks fit well and do their job, though I need four of them at a time. Here on Amazon, they are dirt cheap in comparison to what big retail stores such as Petco would sell them. With the Fluval Foam Filter Block, your tank will stay clean for about a month before you have to swap foam blocks.I highly recommend buying them here instead at retail stores.

These filter options for the Fluval canister filter are fantastic. They hold up well, and you really only need to change them one at a time. My tank has never looked better! One note - depending on your number of fish and size of your tank, you need to find a way to get some oxygen into your water. I did this by trimming the inbound supply so it disturbs the water a bit. Otherwise, you are missing the natural movement you get from the regular/waterfall filters.

This Fluval Foam will last for a very long time; some of my Fluval foam is nearly a year old and not falling apart. The foam works great for keeping a colony of beneficial bacteria. I just rinse by swishing in de-chlorinated water every month or so. Each canister needs 4 blocks. I keep extra on hand. When one falls apart I replace it. But I leave them in as long as possible because I don't want to screw up a cycled tank. This foam goes in a canister

There's not a lot you can say about foam filter media. Obviously, it fits well in my fluval 405 as it is designed by the same company. I will say that though these are more expensive than the sheets of media you can cut to size, they are much easier and work much better. I believe it is worth spending. FWIW I have two read ear sliders in a 55 gallon tank. Along with a few biomax trays and some carbon it is very effective at keeping the water clean.

Does just what it is supposed to. I know most people don't use canister filters anymore opting for more expensive but less maintenance alternatives, but I find that I keep better water quality with one and it is not as expensive to run. I am sorry to say these are less expensive in Amazon. I like to support my local fish store, but the savings on these is to great to pass up.

It is a foam pad, so not much to say on that front. It fits perfect in my Fluval 206 Canister Filter.Do note that the 206 has *four* foam blocks in it. This will only replace half of them. Didn't realize this when I ordered.I'm wondering why there isn't more aftermarket foam replacements for these filters. Maybe I just haven't search hard enough yet.

Not too much to say about this, it's exactly as described. I personally use these to make my own foam filters for Cat Fountains and for that task they work great. Previously I tried the kind with the fabric bottom, these are better for my purpose as they are foam all over and easier to cut through. They work well to trap debris and keep the filter safe!

I changed my filters with this filter from originally what i got from the Fluval 206 package. Well... it is ok, but it is not same as what I had with the original package. it is thinner and does not feel same as original.Anyways... it could be only my thoughts. At least it works fine for months.

Love this product, I honestly couldn't say one bad thing about these. We have been buying them locally for a year and a half now, due to the current situation with things we have had to start ordering then online, amazon is the best price and the best quality that we have come across online yet

A versatile sponge that has been working very well for me. I cut them to fit my tetra whisper pumps and my water has never been so clear. I also glued some to the intake of the pump in my breeding tank to prevent fry from getting sucked in and that worked like a charm.

I have been using the generic version of these and they do not hold up as well so I went back to the pricier Fluval brand. I have three 404 filters so that is 12 foam blocks which can get expensive. I rinse these out well and can easily get 2 years out of them.

I have a Fluval 405, and swore that this said it would fit. It's about 2" shorter than my trays, but that is my fault. I'll order the right ones and use these for now. They seem to be well made and capture a lot of material as a mechanical filter.
